Ok why had no one told me how good the pizza is from here?!? Not once has Capone's been mentioned when I ask about a good place in town for pizza. Is this Anchorage's best kept pizza secret? I've lived here almost 4 years, and had resigned myself to a fate of never getting to eat tavern style thin crust pizza unless I visit Chicago. Capone's has changed that for me! I've driven by here a bunch. It's tucked away on boniface right past the northern lights intersection so it's pretty easy to miss. It's set back BEHIND the strip mall housing the international grocery store & Max's beefy burgers. Every time I drive by I would wonder about how the pizza was, and if I'm being honest I'd also scoff at the restaurant name. Because I've not heard much chatter about it I wasn't in a rush to try them, which was a mistake. Well I recently did see someone talking about them on Twitter of all places so I moved them to the top of my "to try" list. This is strictly a to go joint that does take out and delivery. It is not fancy, and very much reminds me of a pizza place you'd find in IL. They don't just do pizzas, and have a pretty decent sized menu that serves subs & salads as well. As far as the pizza goes they offer thin crust, regular crust, and thick crust. They have a menu of specialty pizzas that included a bulgolgi pizza (intriguing), or you can build your own. I ordered a large (14 in) pepperoni & pepperoncini thin crust. This pizza was perfectly cooked. The crust was a golden brown, it was not overly greasy or soggy. The crust had a perfect crispiness to it. The sauce and toppings were abundant, and it was beautifully cooked to a golden brown on top (my husband said it was over cooked for his liking, but I disagree). The sauce was very flavorful. This pie made it back to Eagle River, and there was barely any grease at the bottom of the box. It's honestly one of the best pizzas I've eaten in the Anchorage area. Next time I'm ordering in going to ask for it square cut to get the true tavern style experience. The prices were extremely reasonable, and they give you a menu with tons of great daily deals. Each pizza also comes with a magnet. After collecting 10 magnets you can get a free large 2 topping. I can't comment on the regular or thick crust, but I'm sure those pizzas will be just as tasty as the thin crust I ordered. Definitely give this joint a try the next time you're in the mood for some take out pizza! read more

I don't know if they were off today. But todays order was not great... it wasn't even close to good for us. It seems like the calzones are getting smaller and smaller each time we order. I ordered a pizza with extra mushrooms and ricotta cheese. The amount of mushrooms are what we would find on a regular pizza... they definitely didn't give us extra as asked for and there was no ricotta cheese to be found or taste. For the extra we paid, we were dissatisfied and disappointed. Our desserts were the worst part of our order they came frozen, we are talking rock hard, out of the freezer frozen. Our tiramisu was frozen, our fork couldn't penetrate it. It must've been sitting in a freezer for some time, there was a ring of frozen stuff at the base of this dessert and frost crystals at the top of it. Our cheesecake was just as frozen that we had to let it sit out to defrost in order to eat it. Their menu showed cheesecake with a sauce and strawberries. This didn't come with any... we wouldn't have ordered it if we knew it didn't come with it. read more

On our quest to continue trying every pizza place in anchorage we decided to give Capone's a try after seeing it every week driving to numerous places. Unfortunately it wasn't very impressive. It's not the worst pizza in the world but may be the bottom of choices in Anchorage. The sauce tastes identical- not even kind of like- but just like Papa Johns pizza sauce. This isn't bad, it was just the first thing we noticed. The Canadian bacon was really good but in all the toppings were average, so not bad. We ordered one Chicago special and their special pick up order of large pepperoni. I was over-charged. I didn't even notice until I got home that they'd charged full price for the pepperoni pizza even though I specifically asked for the pick-up special. My fault- check your receipts. Then after getting home we opened the boxes. The breadsticks taste as good as they look. The person we ordered from said they were a top seller. The Chicago pizza was pretty good, but the pepperoni pizza was not good. It was over-cooked. My kids eat anything and we have half of that pizza left. Burnt pepperoni, over-overcooked cheese and mediocre crust left us wanting a bit more. I wouldn't recommend Capone's unfortunately. This restaurant is obviously not professionally managed. I was told it would take 45 minutes and the pizza literally arrived two hours later. I called several times for an update (around one hour mark, which she said the pizza would arrive within 30 minutes, so I called about 45 minutes later and she just kept saying the guy had just left. It would be there soon even though it was only a four minute drive and probably a 10 minute walk.) and we were literally only half a mile away. The pizza was very floppy. The girl on the phone was very rude and even hung up on me one time. It would've been faster to drive to Girdwood to grab a bite to eat and then it was to wait for this gross, greasy pizza. After eating a couple slices, we felt like we were gonna die. I have a big problem with dishonesty. If they had told me when I ordered, it was gonna take two hours. I could've decided to wait or go somewhere else, but they lied to me on multiple occasions, and that's where I draw the line. We won't be coming back! read more

We have tried to order several times to our household - sometimes myself ordering, sometimes others, including guests. The last 4 orders prior to tonight, whether placed by myself or someone else were not very good. One never was never even delivered, two came wrong and 2 out of those 4 were 100% cold. We didn't make a deal out of it those 4 times.. I saw a kinda cool post come up about their 1 year anniversary of new ownership while I was re doing our local business recommendations for our vacation rentals so we wanted to support someone local tonight. Tonight, our 5th attempt, will be the very last, but that's ok because the guy on the phone, who seems to be the owner, told us to f**k off and not call again lol. I was pretty pissed when I called and didn't have much nice to say- after trying this place a 5th time (which obviously makes me at fault also - who gives anyplace 5 tries ) the food we got was absolutely disgusting and so overcooked that it was not edible. On top of that, there was so much grease from their 'deep dish' pizza that the box literally soaked my countertop in grease and the box was starting to fall apart. Breadsticks? Should probably re-name them bricksticks. Guy on the phone did say I shouldn't be surprised at their version of 'deep dish' pizza and that there are photos on the website. Well, can't seem to find those pizza photos, but took a couple of ourselves because I would need a visual to even try to explain what this is. So, we just paid 37 dollars for a giant brick of wasted food to be tossed in the trash - I guess that's one way to support local - just call them and give them your money but ask them to just keep the food and go someplace else lol.. We won't be ordering ever again and we also will remove Capones from our recommended list for our guests in our vacation rentals. read more

I am not normally a pizza person, but let me tell you, you HAVE to try this place. The new owners are excellent and so friendly, I don't get judged for my bizarre affection for anchovies and pineapple. They're happy to do thick or thin crust, depending on your preference, though the standard usually comes out pretty perfect. Plus, they actually understand that being generous with good marinara sauce is one of the best parts of pizza! I am a new costumer. As I attempt to place my order, I immediately got served with poor service. The worker said "which location?" with a bad tone. When I got transferred over to the location, I asked for a Bulgogi Pizza, as shown on the menu. She then told me i'm making up that pizza and told me to read the topics on it. Had been trying to place an order for two days or at least speak to a manager. The first order we placed was online on their website. We had not received an email and when I called to confirm and check with delivery instructions I was told a delivery driver would contact me when they were nearby. Mind you this was 30 min after we had placed the order around 8/8:30. I called back at 10 to ask where our pizza was and was then told that they had been closed since 8. That we had not been charged and to call back the next day to speak to a manager. Called back the next day to again be told they are closed on Mondays and could call back the next day to speak to someone about our issue. I understand with holidays it can be messy however the quality of service and care we received so far is horrendous. We like this pizza place, their dough is good and the pizzas are yummy. The sides are great too. Recently we unfortunately have been having not as good of service, when we were previously served by what I assume was the owners, it was great and The order was always correct, but now it seems they have employees instead and they have messed up our order a few times. Pizza always has a great crust. On the thinner side without globs of dough. They spread the cheese as far to the edge as possible so you get more pizza and less "breadstick". This place is a family favorite we get deliver/take out at least a couple times a month. I recommend. read more

Being able to order online (and they even take 15% off the bill if you do!) and pick up within 10 minutes of doing so (and I'm serious!) automatically makes this place a winner. But not only is their pizza (which is essentially the most important part of a pizza joint, is it not?) delicious, but also very reasonably priced. Capone's is decent but be careful what you order. The pizza is okay but don't bother ordering deep dish. I don't think they understand what that is. Ordered a deep dish meat lover's and it looked similar to a regular meat lover's but with an added crust across the top. More like a calzone which isn't what I wanted. I do recommend the mozzy bread and the chicken salad is a good serving. There are a few benefits to ordering from Capone's. My husband and I usually order half pepperoni and half cheese. We have never ordered any of their specialty pizzas. Today was the first time I've tried ordering online. It was very difficult to navigate their online system. I wanted a half cheese half pepperoni but I ended up getting full cheese pizza. About five minutes after I ordered I got a call from Capone's saying that it would be ready in 15 minutes. I would recommend confirming your order when they call you because of the difficulty of the online system. I decided it was worth it to order online because of the 15% discount. I really like the crust here. I also like it because it's so close to our house and is made quickly. I've never had it delivered so I can't speak to their delivery service. I was extremely disappointed. My first mistake I think was not ordering pizza. I ordered chicken parmigiano and my husband got the ravioli with sauce. The ravioli tasted like the chef boyardee canned ravioli. As for my chicken parmigiano I was in for a treat. Frozen chicken patties with pasta sauce and cheese was what I was given. Capone's Pizza was OK at best. They put the right amount of sauce, cheese and toppings on. However once you get to the crust you would probably be better off eating a piece of cardboard. They both have the same texture. I personally like my crust to rise and have little air bubbles. This crust was not thin, but flat and dry. The customer service was good for a place that is just a pick up or delivery. I do think the price of their pizza's should be a little lower. They charge about the same prices as a place like Uncle Joe's, but the product isn't nearly as good in my personal opinion. Only thing that they have over a place like Costco and Sam's Club is the fact that they deliver because I honestly believe the pizza is better at those places as well. First, the positive. We received our delivery order fairly quickly, and the delivery driver was friendly and courteous. As for the quality of the food however, if I could give zero stars, I would. We ordered pizza from Capone's for the first time last night, and it was by far the worst pizza I've ever tasted. I didn't even get through one slice. Truly awful, sad to say. Loaded with greasy fake cheese, really bland sauce, it was pretty wet. The breadsticks weren't dusted with Parmesan, or seasoned with garlic, or even brushed with butter - just plain, flavorless, really tough bread. Driven by this place for years. I finally decided to order delivery just to try something new. I got the Capone's Combo based off the pictures of it on Yelp. The fresh tomato looked appealing. I also ordered 10 piece buffalo wings. I base a lot of my pizza orders off the quality of the wings. I find it very hard to get good wings and pizza from the same restaurant here in Anchorage. The website is terrible and desperately needs to be re-hosted but I was able to successfully place an order. A medium combo and 10 wings was about $30 delivered. The food showed up in about 45 minutes and was too hot to eat! The pizza was the best I have had in a while. The crust was crispy, the ingredients were fresh and not greasy. The wings were crispy, big and perfect. This place is a little more money than the chain pizza places but worth it especially if you like good wings. read more

I ordered from this restaurant for the past 2 years and ever since I've never changed pizza place. Pizza is made with good ingredients and the crust is one of the best in town. On top of that it's a small local business owned by a nice couple.
