It's pretty great. After Thirsty Planet and just down the road. Lucky us mid-afternoon and no crowd at all. The Fat Queen, Pieous Plate, Thirsty Goat and glass from Montepulciano. Bam! The pizza and plate arrived in 5 minutes flat, no joke. Food fast but not fast food. Delicious, crust is excellent with perfect toast points. Toppings are loaded. Thinking sauce could be more pazazzio and cheese bolder but maybe my taste buds were flat from too many Thirsty Planet bevies. At the high end of Neapolitan pizza. We went on a Sunday at 11am, right when they opened. There was no wait although a few people were ahead of us. I have heard there is often a long wait so this is the ideal time if you can swing it. The inside dining is small with 7 four-tops and 2 long tables for larger groups. There is also bar seating that overlooks the prep area. Additionally, there are outdoor tables that would be wonderful during the cooler months. We ordered The Fat Queen, mixed greens salad and the lean pastrami. The pizza was delicious. The dough was light and the meats were flavorful and salty. Just how I like my pepperoni, on the salty side with some crisp. The pizzas are on the small side and it wouldn't be crazy to finish one on your own. The salad was yummy and I very much enjoyed the dressing. A few hints of mozzarella, wish there was a bit more but nothing to dock them for as we were there for the pizza. Surprisingly, the pastrami quite delicious although it was lean cut. It was a great appetizer while we waited for our pizza to gloriously arrive. The location is out there but worth the drive. I decided to treat myself to Pieous this past weekend and was really disappointed. I understand they are only doing take out, but if that is the route you are going to go, you should ensure take out quality. The pizzas I got just weren't fresh. Like other reviews, the crust was SO chewy, parts of the crust were burnt and charred, and then the middle of the pizza was soggy. Just all around disappointing especially when you take into account that these pizzas aren't cheap. Giving 2 stars only because the flavor of the toppings wasn't terrible, but I will never indulge on pizza from Pieous again. read more

Last Sunday, the kids were off to The Thinkery with their favorite non-parental adult human, so my husband and I drove out to the new Pieous on Hargraves in Dripping Springs (Austin zip code) for National Pizza Day (February 09.) The new Pieous location is a great place for a party! When entering the driveway, the first (L-shaped) building is Pieous, with a spacious outdoor seating area attached to the indoor dining area. The next building is The Switch (as in Stiles Switch.) A large outdoor space in-between the two restaurants ties it all together with tree lights. I immediately envisioned sunset celebrations with music and friends. When we stepped inside, my heart instantly warmed over children drawing on the Van Gogh chalk board wall, while their parents ordered food at the counter. The line moved quickly, but we had the exact amount of time required to make "the really tough choices." On this visit, we split a Pastrami Plate and a Meat Lovers Pizza. It was simply perfect. Be ye forewarned! (Dad joke) ... I'm about to use the "Word Perfect" way too much for post-80's word processing. We ordered a (recommended) mix of lean and juicy pastrami and it was the perfect start to a perfect lunch. We were given a plate of generously portioned perfectly smoked pastrami, with fresh sourdough, onions, pickles, and both whole grain & yellow mustards on the side. Our wood fired pizza arrived bubbling hot, but my tastebuds were stuck on Pastrami Mountain. My word, that's some gooood pastrami! The black pepper crust had the perfect amount of crunch, spice, and tenderness. Lean and juicy portions were equally divine bites. If you see me daydreaming like a happy baby (drool), I'm likely thinking about that pastrami. Kidding, folks. I would wipe my mouth backwards in time like The Flash before you ever saw shiny bubbles on this mouth. ;-) And the pizza! Wood fire carbonara graced a tender, perfectly baked crust. House made Italian sausage, pepperoni, and soppressata sat atop the perfect amount of fresh mozzarella blanketing a perfectly seasoned red sauce. Oh my my perfect. Perfect. Perfect! The service was fantastic as always. Everyone is so kind and wonderful and Pieous. Someone always stops by to ask how you're doing (and it's sincere!) I love new Pieous as much as old Pieous. Stopped here after a day of hiking at Enchanted Rock and we were HANGRY. We waited for about 25 minutes to place our order (on a saturday night at 7:30 so it was peak time), but almost 2 minutes after we sat down on the patio, our pizzas were ready! Eureka! We both built our own pizzas with pepperooni, mushrooms and garlic on mine. AMAZEBALLS. Also shared the blueberry cheesecake which was phenomenal and the chocolate chip cookie. Plus: Maine root soda! Pieous has changed over the years and not for the better. They serve their own label of beer instead of Peroni that they used to serve. Their own label is not good. They serve their own label of wine which is also substandard and over priced. Their pizza's are not as good as they used to be in my opinion. We drove from Austin to Dripping Springs to try this place out based on the good reviews. We ordered a Margarita pizza and pastrami. The pastrami was good yet expensive. The pizza is soggy as many have mentioned. It was also a bit bland and lukewarm. The reason I am giving this place a one star review is I cannot leave a zero star review. My pizza had a HAIR on the bottom of it! When we called the manager over, she said I don't think it was the boys hair. None of the men making pizza wore any hairnets. One wore a hat. The man without the hat was the one making the pizza at the time mine was served. Wow. We walked in here after a trip to Blue Hole, so we were pretty hungry. I think I may have found one of my favorite places to eat. I like that they have some local beer and wine choices. I can't remember the local red we had, but it was good stuff. Our group got a total of three pizzas and they were all wonderful. We got a plain cheese pizza for the kids, the pastrami and argula pizza (I think that's what it was? It might have been a special), and the Brussels sprouts and jam pizza. The dough on this pizza is just supurb. It's bubbly and chewy and slightly charred from the wood fired oven. We also got a couple of Pieous plates. Let me just say right now that the "Juicy Pastrami" is the one thing you HAVE to try here. It is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The lean version is also very good...but it's in 2nd place in my book. Oh! I nearly forgot the Ceasar salad my daughter ordered. It is huge. The dressing is perfect--the salad isn't overdressed (thank you, thank you, thank you) or underdressed. Despite it's enormous size, she nearly finished it (with a little help from me). They have cookies and brownies, size XXL. We got a brownie. Rich and moist. We shared that and a piece of banana cream pie...which was also incredible. I was little disappointed in the tiramisu. It really just tasted like cream; it was a bit on the bland side. We actually didn't even finish it (we took it home and tried to...it's a huge piece, too! As is the pie slice). The staff here was eager to recommend the things they liked to eat and drink. The feel of this place is very cozy and local feeling. Soo good! The crust is amazing. We got the pieous chopped salad and margherita pizza with artichokes! Yum!! They're desserts look amazing, it was impossible to resist and hard to choose one. My family came here after seeing this pizza place listed as a great place to eat. The pizza was incredible! We had the smoky Italian pizza with a Caesar salad. All of their sausage is smoked in house, the mozzarella is made fresh daily, and the desserts are made from scratch. The service was phenomenal. Yes yes a thousand times yes. I stopped by here on a Friday evening, and the parking lot was packed. When I got inside, there was a line. You KNOW when there's a line, it's gonna be good food. Each bite was filled with flavor. It's pretty simple when you think about it, but wow this was so good. Definitely recommend if you're a fan of pastrimi!!!! It comes with 4 pieces of sourdough bread, mustard, mustard seed, onions, & pickles aka the perfect combination Rocket pizza: 5/5, a-maz-ing. Although it's only 12 inches, it's totes worth the price you pay. It's a white pizza with argula & prosciutto which is probably the perfect combination. We were so excited to order our Thanksgiving dessert only to receive lack-luster customer service and a completely broken and crumbling nearly $50 cheesecake. I originally ordered our cheesecake weeks in advance, but emailed on a Thursday asking if we could pick it up early. After not receiving an email back several days later, I emailed again only to receive a one word reply of, "sure". We arrived at Pieous about 6:15pm last Friday night. There was a very long line to order our food but everyone seemed to be in a good mood. A young man came by a few minutes later and took our drink order. He quickly came back with a glass of the house wine for me and a craft beer for my husband. Our friends, who are regulars at Pieous, met us in line at 6:30pm and we ordered two Margarita pizzas with pepperoni and one Smokin Italian and a large choppy salad. Once our order was placed we found the only place to sit was in the main dining room. Sorry to say but it was loud and not so fun to have to shout and repeat while trying to have a conversation. Facebook notified me that I first went to Pieous seven years ago today when I was visiting Austin, and now that I live here, I decided to take my brother to try it tonight. The most important part of any pizza is the crust and that is where Pieous excels--it's crispy and chewy with a slight tang and is second to none. I always get the Marinara now since I'm vegan, but it never disappoints. I could eat the crust all day anyway, but the addition of the sauce, oregano, and garlic just makes it perfect. read more

I've ordered from Pieous several times, and there is a consistent issue with getting underdone pie crusts. This place is really pricey with salads costing $26 or more. It's just not worth it if I have to take and re-bake a pie or ramp up the bill on salads (example: $2 for croutons that should already come on a salad).
