I attended a lunch here with about 20 friends recently. Overall, I think everyone was happy! They offer Chicago deep dish pizza as well as thin crust tavern style pizza. I didn't try the pizza because I ordered the Chicago beef sandwich with peppers (hold the cheese) and a side of fries. The hero bread was perfect and authentic. The sandwich was large but I managed to eat it all. I would definitely order it again. The restaurant is very casual. You walk up and order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. Well this was a bust in every way. Tried to call and order and could only speak to AI which was annoying, but I figured only an incredibly busy place would have that. I should have thought "incredibly profitable". Two years ago the 12" thin crust bbq chicken pizza was $15 less than it is now and food inflation was significantly higher in 2023 than they now. More importantly, after trying to deal with their AI phone service after three failed attempts, I decided to order via Slice App (at least they offer 10% off!). We opted for pick up so we could get it when it was FRESHLY out of the oven and arrived to the store before the pizza was ready with that in mind. They told us it'd be about 5 minutes until it was ready. At the time there was ONE other customer in there waiting for a to go order who was given his food not a minute or two after they told us 5 minutes. NOT ONE OTHER PERSON ENTERED THE STORE. They didn't seem to be getting any other orders either as everyone starting cleaning and things like that. Finally after 15 minutes just seconds before I got up to ask one of the 3-4 workers there when our pizza would be ready, someone walked over and asked what the name on our order was and when I gave it turns out it the was to go order I watched them put on the rack very shortly after we sat down to wait. By the time we got home only 8 minutes away the pizza was hard and barely lukewarm. Not to mention it was also cut in squares despite the order and receipt very clearly stating triangle cut. And the pizza was really only okay in taste. I wasted $40 tonight for nothing. Really disappointed. read more

My husband and I moved to Austin from Chicago a few years ago and have been on the hunt for good Chicago style pizza in Austin. This place is legit! We got the pan pizza and the crust is similar to Peaquods (Chicagoans will know what this is.) The sauce is so flavorful and the dough is the perfect consistency. Love Lefty's Pizza, when it first opened I was excited about their deep dish pizza which is great, but the Chicago Style tavern pizza is one of my favorite, if not my favorite pizza in the area. Had their version of BBQ chicken pizza last night and it is the best BBQ chicken pizza I have had. Lefty's is great because they employ a lot of the high school kids, which is a great way to connect with the community. There is a great selection of local beers, and the service has always been friendly. I have never eaten at the restaurant because I live so close, but they have TVs to watch the game. I don't believe it's strict Chicago style but i left like it was a cross between a Detroit style crust and the bite of a New Jersey Sicilian slice (soft, airy and doughy). Heard great things about this place from a friend so I made the 40 minute trip from Austin to check it out and it was well worth it. I'm typically not a fan of Chicago style pizza since what I'm familiar with are the ones with the huge thick crust and sauce on top. The Chicago pan pizza here at Lefty's was not like that at all. I'd say it's a cross between a Detroit deep dish and Chicago style and it's possibly my new favorite pizza. The crust is caramelized and crispy on the edges and slightly thicker but still crispy and not overly doughy on the bottom. The ingredients were all great quality as well. The store seemed pretty busy with constant orders but they were mostly take out so plenty of seating inside. Pizza took about 20 minutes to come out. At first I thought the pizza was overpriced for $30 for a 14in, but it's a hefty pizza. I was full after two slices so this could easily be split with 2-4 people. I grew up in the Chicago area, I was surrounded by the best Italian food and Pizza in the country, I'm sorry all you thin crusters but a Chicago Deep Dish happens to be my favorite, although I just recently visited Chicago and re-tried some of the big names in Chicago and I have to say I was disappointed how the big boys downtown have changed over the years and it is just not the same as it was 30 - 40 years ago. Gave them 2 stars for trying. We Just ate here, 10 in pizza and an Italian beef sandwich 65$. Pizza alone 10 inch for $32.95. The pizza was right out of the oven but slightly warm when they brought it out, almost cold. The sauce and sausage was good but the veggies weren't cooked. The sandwich had little flavor and the peppers were like roasted instead of cooked in the beef juice, if you want a Chicago style beef sandwich go to a grocery store and buy Italian roast beef, it will have more flavor. The staff were nice, but this is maybe a "Texas" Chicago Style beef and pizza place...I was born/raised in Chicago, so this doesn't cut it as as "Chicago style", but again, ok for trying. read more

First off, YUM! Secondly, if you are a native Chicagoan then let me preface this by saying this is NOT PEQUODS like or anywhere close to PEQUODS. To my fellow Reddit users who may have said it was because they were told the owner worked at a brother/sister pizza place called Bert's -- it's not.. This joint, however, is delicious and specializes in its own style of pan pizza. We had a pan style pepperoni pizza, as well as a thin cheese pizza. The thin pizza was devoured instantly and of course the pan can fill one up rather quickly so even taking some home and reheating it made it even better because it could have used a bit more oven time (a bit more well done) in my opinion and liking without it being burnt. Another fantastic note to mention about the pan is that it DOES NOT use huge chunks of tomato in the sauce which is great because I hate when sauces are like that. I do think in comparison to Chicago style pizzas though that the sauce used is just a bit more sweet than normal but ughh it's so close to being perfection as far as sauce to dough ratio and taste (again comparing to Chicago's well known pizza ) . If you are in the area it's worth the stop and if it's not too far away or you don't mind making the drive like we did it's worth checking out!
