Stopped by for lunch and was greeted by a friendly face. I didn't make it inside as I saw they had a walk up order window outside. Ordering was quick and easy and the gentleman who took my order offered me complimentary water which was perfect for this hot day. Home Slice Pizza in Austin is officially the best pizza I've ever had, and I'm not being dramatic. The slices are MASSIVE, like "you have to fold it or you're going to wear it" huge. The crust had that perfect chew, and it was just straight up great pizza. We ate there and loved it so much that later that night we threw a little party and ordered Home Slice (again) delivered, and it still hit just as hard the second time! Everyone at the party loved it. Don't skip dessert! Their cookie was legit, so soft and loaded with chocolate chunks. For some reason, an awesome cookie paired with the best pizza is an elite combo. The dine in area isn't huge, but they're always busy because they're that good, and it's worth the wait. Sitting inside isn't impossible though, and it has a really cute old-school pizzeria vibe that feels authentic (not in a gross way). The staff is INCREDIBLY nice too and went out of their way for me multiple times, which just made me love the place even more. If you're in Austin, this is a must. Yeah, I'm doing the classic Home Slice review in Austin. But it really is as good as everyone says and it's a reason that this place is an Austin staple. Despite the soco location being the most well known, I am more fond of their spot down off airport blvd. First off, every time I go, the staff are so sweet and kind. Always so friendly and welcoming. I also prefer the outdoor seating and generally homey vibe of this location. On to the pizza, yeah it's that good. Every slice I've had is cooked perfectly with the crust having a light crunch that you just want to keep chewing. The toppings are loaded on top and the price for a single slice is really good when you take into account just how big they are. I also love getting a caesar salad to pair. read more

Home Slice gets a lot of hype in Austin but I truly believe it really is that good... it's some of the best NY style pizza you can get here in Austin and the subs are PHENOMENAL! They're open late, the pricing is reasonable, and the portion size is fantastic! FAST FACTS: * Parking - small lot in front of the building with some neighborhood parking nearby(can be tricky if they're busy) * Online ordering - available for pickup on their website * Pizza available by the slice or pie * Counter to the left when you enter for pickup orders and pizza by the slice SERVICE - We arrived at 9:20 pm on a Saturday night (on their 20th birthday celebration) and were seated right away. They were busy but the service was great... our server Nate took care of us from start to finish and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered everything at once and they brought out the 2 slices first (about 20 minutes after ordering) followed by the subs (10 minutes later). PRICING - The total was $61.98 after tax ($4.73) but before tip for an iced tea ($3.50), pepperoni slice ($4.75), white pie with spinach slice ($5), whole meatball sub ($22) and whole Italian sub ($22). At first, $22 for a sub might sound steep but they are MASSIVE... two people could split a sub and be good to go! I think the pricing is reasonable for the portion size. PEPPERONI SLICE (8/10) - Classic NY style and it's done right... the crust is what makes it! It's foldable but not floppy and the pepperoni are crispy but not burnt. It's a great slice of pizza! I'd order this again. WHITE PIE WITH SPINACH SLICE (7/10) - This was one of the daily offerings for slices and I wanted to try something different... it was super cheesy and good! I'd probably get a different slice next time but I'm happy I tried it. ITALIAN SUB (8/10) - First of all, it's MASSIVE! The sesame seed bun is different but it works! There's also mayo on it which I really enjoyed. This is one of the best Italian subs I've had, especially in Austin. I'd order this again. MEATBALL SUB (8/10) - Again, It's MASSIVE. It's loaded from the top so it holds together pretty well. The meatballs are flavorful and juicy, it has the right amount of marinara sauce, and the cheese is super melty. Just like with the Italian subs, it's one of my favorite meatball subs here in Austin. I'd order this again. This was my second time trying this Home Slice location and I've also been to the SoCo location... both are great but this one is less busy. I'll definitely be back when I want NY style pizza or a massive sub (especially late) and would recommend it to others. First time visiting Home Slice's E 53rd St location! There's a small parking lot out front and some spots along the side. We came on a Wednesday around 4 pm, and were seated almost immediately. The interior design is very charming, complete with red gingham tablecloths and ambient lighting. (Side note, their bathrooms are quite nice too.) Our friend group all decided to go for "Pizza by the Slice." The slice pies change everyday and there are both thin crust and Sicilian (deep dish style, available until 5 pm) options available. Initially was going to order the Sicilian Pepperoni, but decided to try out the Special Slice after our server finished describing the options! Special Slice/White Pie ($5.00, 5/5) - The white pie comes topped with spinach and a good amount of ricotta! Very flavorful, and the ricotta was rich and creamy. - The (thin) crust was well-seasoned, warm & crispy - Fan favorite out of the group (with many of us getting another slice to-go). This place was great. I went in for a late night pizza slice. I had 2...a pepperoni and a broccoli and feta. Both were amazing. I also returned the next day and had a calzone. Also good. This place is very efficient for the large foot traffic they have. I did have to wait about 45 min for the calzone but I had fun people watching. read more

Everybody looked at me strangely when I said I have never tried Home Slice as I've been an Austin resident off and on since 2016. When I lived within walking distance, I still never visited. I cannot believe it! This restaurant is more than just a restaurant -- it's a whole MOOD. The bathrooms are ones to experience for sure as there are surprises next to the sink (you gotta check it out). Our waiter was extraordinarily helpful and kind. I ordered a half greek salad and a vegan slice. Since the greek salad comes with feta, he made sure to give me the feta on the side (assuming correctly that I am dairy-free). Incredible attention to detail, especially with a party larger than 6! My pizza slice was perfect: I hate a saucy slice and there was just enough marinara to not be heavy and overwhelming. The greek salad was dressed to perfection and light enough to not make me feel bloated. With 22% gratuity included, our large table ate for a little over $120 which I found spectacular! No wonder why this place is always bustling. I will say finding parking is really tough but there are always the neighborhood backstreets. I will be back! read more

Home Slice is in our regular rotation and somewhere we'll take guests from out of town if they're wanting a slice of pizza. We went this past weekend with an out of town guest, the wait wasn't bad and ended up being a little less than quoted. Parking was a little tough because it was during dinner hour but we found street parking. Home Slice always has a specialty slice which is like their rotating flavor, this was our first encounter with the meatball onion and let me tell youuuuuuu. This slice was so delicious! The flavor of the meatball and the paper thin onions that melted into the cheese were just *chefs kiss*. We went for an early dinner on New Year's Eve. This was our first time at this location and they did a great job. The wait was only about 20 minutes for an inside table. We got the #8 which came loaded with fresh toppings. We asked for extra crispy crust and the kitchen made it happen. Service was excellent in spite of the big crowd. They Turkey (under Cold Subs) sub is so, so good! It's the perfect lunch for a hot summer day in Austin. I also have to give a huge shout out to our incredible server Erica H. My husband and I came here to try the pizza after hearing great things--we were especially excited because we've been missing good pizza from back home (NYC). Service was excellent and the food came out quickly, which we appreciated. The staff was genuinely friendly, the space was clean, and the bathroom was well-maintained. There's a nice variety of seating and a great selection of beers on tap. We started with the Caesar salad, which was fresh, crisp, and full of flavor--definitely a highlight. We had nothing better to do on a soon to be rainy Friday night so we decided to go out and solve our pizza cravings. Since the 40 minute drive to South Congress didn't seem very fun, we decided to stop at the East 53rd Street location for Homeslice. Here's what we found... Parking is tight and may take a few times around so be prepared for that. We got very lucky and their parking lot security waved us over to a spot. There's a good amount of indoor vs outdoor seating, we chose the latter and it was nice as there's a good energy around the restaurant. You do have the option of restaurant style for both indoor and outdoor which is a nice option. We ordered garlic knots, 2 cheese slices, a pepperoni slice, and a margherita slice. They bring the food right out to your table which is very convenient (you order at an outside window for context). The food itself varied quite a bit in tastiness. The garlic knots were some of the worst we've ever had. Barely any garlic flavor or any flavor at all really, pretty disappointing. The slices however more than made up for that. The margherita slice was okay, definitely didn't look like a good slice presentation wise but tasted just like one. The other two slices though, pure heaven. The regular cheese is dam near perfection, about as close to NYC as you can get. And the pepperoni? We took a bite and dam near teleported to Bleecker Street. Unreal. By the end of our trip to Homeslice on 53rd we came to 2 realizations: dam that was good and statistical anomalies are real (see garlic knot criticism for proof). read more

Food here is a near five star for me. In terms of the quality, consistency, and price, I just feel like Homeslice knows itself super well. The slice offerings are generously sized, balanced in their saltiness, and usually come out very fast! Today there was a slight mixup and out to go order (one slice and one Italian sandwich) took about 40 minutes to come out. I do wish the staff showed a but more humility and remorse, but I'll chalk it up to a one off. It was also packed on this Friday evening, so the vibes were fun and lively as we waited in their outside seating area. When we finally did get to eat, our Italian sub did not disappoint. Very busy on a sunday but very solid people and pizza. I did not care for the speciality pizzas that much and did not think it was worth the extra money but my boyfriend really liked it. We had friends in town visiting and their 1 and 4 year old loved playing in the kids area and playing with the complimentary kids dough balls they provide for entertainment. They offer vegan pizza options by the slice and as full pizzas which is so appreciated, Very tasty! The inside and outside dining areas are completely different vibes but both are great. Being from Massachusetts, I'm naturally picky about my pizza, but HomeSlice is the real deal. It tastes so close to the pizza I grew up eating back home and in New York. We've been twice recently and it's been amazing both times. Most recently, we went on a Sunday as a party of 2 and were sat instantly in a booth inside (actually the same booth we had last time, which was a vibe). We kept it "simple" with Mexican Cokes, an Italian sub, and slices of cheese and pepperoni. My fiancé literally dreams about this Italian sub--it's that good. A few weeks back, we came with a bigger group on a Saturday. The wait for a table was definitely longer, but we wanted the full-service experience instead of the takeout window. They were so sweet and gave my nieces actual pizza dough to play with while we waited for the food, which kept them busy. We did a whole pie and wings that time and everything was 10/10. Highlight: The leftovers. I heated them up the next day and they were still a perfect 10. That's the true test of a good crust. Lowlight (if you can even call it that): I'm not a fan of Maine Root sodas (just being picky lol), but they have glass bottles of Mexican Coke and other drinks that are totally worth it and hit the spot.
