After a few games of pickleball I was starving and decided to give it a try. The lamb sandwich caught my eye which was super flavorful and herbaceous. I skipped the beets, but it still hit the spot and paired perfectly with a cold beer. My friend got the Knuckle Sandwich and wow. Think Italian sub on steroids with a crispy parmesan layer that adds the perfect crunch. Only downside? The price. I recently tried Knuckle Sandwich and ordered the Lamb Sammie along with the chickpea tots. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite what I was hoping for, especially at the price point. The sandwich had potential, but the balance of flavors was off. The bread leaned heavily into za'atar seasoning, and while I appreciate fresh herbs, the mint was completely overpowering. I know lamb and mint are a classic pairing, but in this case, it felt like I was biting into a mint sandwich with a side of lamb--those flavors should have been infused into the meat rather than dominating the toppings. We seriously love Diana for her recommendation got the knuckle and the veggies. Knuckles was perfect lettuce and perfect meat ratio. Not too much lettuce and very generous with meat. The cheese crisps was so so so so good and just made the perfect crunch. The veggie though was so so amazing I have never had such an amazing artichoke sandwhich it was so good. I was excited to try Knuckle Sandwich after a ton of positive ink on social media & Austin food sites and such. So, I was prepared to be underwhelmed as it was hyped up. I thought it was really cool how they list where they source their food from, and 1/2 of the bread comes from Abby Jane (and they use the adjacent Barton Springs Mill for grain), so that pumped me up as Drip is my jam! Anyway, I took one look at my sandwich and I just kinda said, this looks impressive. And it only took one bite, and I was absolutely shocked. The sandwich was just incredible. I had the turkey one (and will be back for the others). I can't even tell you the last time I had bread like the bread they use. Fresh/crispy. It's hard to explain how good this sandwich is, and well worth the premium price you pay. I also had the Matzah Ball soup and it had this freshness to it and a great matzah ball that kinda took me back to my grandmas on Staten Island. However, it was a bit on the salty side for my taste. In contrast, I wish my Grandma would have used *any* salt in hers, but that's a story for another time. Lastly, I have to say the whole area, the brewery that Knuckle Sandwich is associated with is amazing. Benches to sit in (with heaters), indoor/outdoor pickleball courts, a pizza truck right next to it...and more broadly speaking the whole Yard is filled with food trucks, breweries, distilleries - just awesome. This place is located in a cool spot, a strip of different places to visit, drinks, food and games. Went around 3pm on a Thursday, it was not busy. We had the knuckle sandwich with the salad. Both was awesome! The dressing on the salad is made in house, slightly sweet and tangy. Paired well with the veggies. I loved it! The sandwich was packed with protein and veggies. Bread was toasted. I stopped at Knuckle Sandwich to pick up a couple of sammies for my friend and I. We decided to go with the OG Knuckle Sandwich and the Mushroom Reuben. I also got a side of the pickled beets. The beets had a great pickled flavor, but they were much more crunchy than I expected. I think my only recommendation for that would be to cook them a tad longer so they're a hair softer. But otherwise, I would order them again. The Mushroom Reuben was good. I think I prefer classic Reubens haha, but this is a great option for all you vegetarians out there. The Knuckle Sandwich is absolutely where it's at though. Think an Italian sandwich with a Middle Eastern spin. The za'atar vinaigrette added such an amazing flavor to a sandwich with fantastic bread, tasty meat, and a healthy amount of veggies. However, the quality of the sandwich was also kind of a miss. The bread was great, and the actual meat was good -- but the sandwich is 70% lettuce and 30% meat. Me and my boyfriend finally tried out knuckle sandwich after seeing so much about it online but unfortunately we found it to be very disappointing. We came on a Friday afternoon for lunch and out of the four sandwiches on the menu, only two were available and that was the OG knuckle sandwich and their vegetarian option. It seems like they have an issue with keeping a good inventory level because I just went on their website to reference the menu and half of the items are out of stock at the moment which is weird considering how limited their menu is to begin with. The sandwich itself was pretty expensive. $22 for a full sub and $12 for a half sub. The sandwich was good but it did leave us disappointed overall for the price. We also ordered the chickpea tots which look so beautiful but were so deceiving . I added a pic of the inside of them so you can see the texture but it was very similar to the texture of a very mushy bread pudding. I am not one to be picky about texture but we both found it to be very off putting which is really sad because the flavor was there and they were fried perfectly. I will say that the service was great! Awesome staff and in a very cool area. I feel bad leaving a negative review because I don't very often but I would feel worse about not being honest. read more

Wow! Just wow! Try the chickpea tots. If you do nothing else you have to try these. They are great by themselves or with the sauces they come with. I had the lamb sandwich. It was rich and delicious. Not for the faint of heart. An explosion of flavors with every bite. I hear from coworkers the Italian sandwich is even better (not sure it's possible. Guess I'll have to go back. Have been before and enjoyed the knuckle sandwich. This time tried the lamb sammie and matzo ball soup. Surprisingly, the soup came loaded with cilantro. Never seen cilantro used in mb soup and for those of us with the genetic cilantro tastes like soap gene we look hard on menus to avoid it. At this place they don't mention cilantro in the soup but they do mention celery which seems wrong. Same with the sandwich. Says "herbs" but not cilantro while they do disclose cilantro elsewhere on the menu. Why hide it in some items but disclose on others? The chef is apparently sephardic but the matzo ball was not even tender or fluffy. Do sephardim prefer hard matzo balls with cilantro? The lamb in the Sammie was also dry. Prices are set for perfection$9 for cup of soup and $17 for sandwich. read more

I've had the "lamb Sammie" and the "not so boring turkey", and both were fantastic! For those who don't want to read much, I got the Turkey Sandwich and I definitely enjoyed it, but it is just too darn expensive to make any sort of regular thing , with tax and very small tip ($1.50) a (as in ONE) sandwich is $20. For those that want more details: I did think the Turkey Sandwich was very tasty. The bread is nice and crusty, although I wonder if this bread may have been slightly old, because even though I truly appreciate a good piece of bread (good bread should be crusty) this was even a bit hard for my taste. The flavors of the sandwich were good, it tasted like the Mozz and Parm they used was high quality. The sandwich was slightly "vinegary" for lack of a better term. I really like olives, I enjoy olive tapenade. I am not sure if it was the tapenade that gave it the slightly too sour/acidic flavor. Granted, both of these critiques are slightly nit-picky, but when you charge $17 for a sandwich, it better be damn near perfect. That brings me to my real point of contention with this place. If I could give a 3.5 star rating I would, again not because the sandwich wasn't good, but I find it to be somewhat audacious to charge $17 for a sandwich. This wasn't some huge sandwich, it didn't have any expensive prosciutto or cured meats or home made in house pastrami on it or anything. The ingredients were good, as far as I could tell, but at the end of the day, The Turkey Sandwich at Home Slice is on Par with this sandwich, a bit bigger than this sandwich (for the half size at Home Slice), and $5 less than this sandwich costs. The next step down from this or Home Slice would be Tucci's or Snarf's, and again, a sandwich at least the same size, the bread will not be as good as the bread here, but otherwise a similar quality sandwich, and again, about $5-$7 less than this sandwich (I don't know why you go to Snarf's or Tucci's when you can go to home slice for the same price, but if that is your thing...) Of course there is always the $6.99 Foot Long at Subway. The quality is of course no where near on par with this Sandwich, but you will get a whole lot more bang for your buck and you get the sandwich just how you want it basically. I was also still hungry after I ate the sandwich. Not starving or anything but not satiated either. I will say, I am not a small person, but I am also not huge, etc. Just a slightly bigger than average guy with a good appetite (like a lot of guys out there) So, just keep that in mind that in theory you aren't getting away from there with only ordering a sandwich and that being enough, especially if you've worked up an appetite playing pickle ball. They have some sides, but again, you are looking at spending between $5-$9 on a side, so a sandwich and a side on the low end is going to cost you about $23 plus tax and tip. I don't know about you, but that feels like a lot of money for a sandwich and a side to me. I like that I can order ahead through square but they do not make it easy to find their square site. I have only been able to get to it by first going to their instagram. If you google it, the square site address that google has actually takes you to a pizza place. If you are playing pickle ball down here or at one of the bars, this food truck is certainly a good one with a quality product, just be prepared to spend a good bit of money. I like the sandwich, and I imagine I will be back at some point, but it isn't one I will get often due to the price. read more
