I've lived in New York City and can confidently say that Home Slice Pizza is the closest New York-style pizza that I've had in Austin. My fiance and I visited on a busy Friday night so parking was packed. Nevertheless with a little patience, we found street parking. We only wanted a few slices of pizza so we ordered from the walk-up window instead of dining in. Pepperoni was a solid choice--they even had the little pool of oil at the bottom of each cupped pepperoni. The margherita was also delicious. Slices are huge too! Our food came out quickly and hot! We tried their Italian sandwich after hearing it was the best in Austin. We ordered it to go. The Italian was good. The bread was excellent and the cheese was really good. The dressing was a bit too heavy, and the paper around the sandwich dissolved on the ~8 minute walk home. The service had a bit too many upsells and junk fees for my taste. If you ask for pickled peppers added, it's a $2.00 upcharge, which seems gratuitous. If you order takeout, it's yet another upcharge. Add on tax and tip and you easily have a $30+ sandwich. I've had Home Slice Pizza before as takeout from both locations, so I knew I was in for good food when I planned a lunch here. Dining in, however, offered a very different and even more impressive experience. Our server was attentive, and it was nice to have one of the booths at our table for two. They checked on us several times throughout our meal and responded quickly even as the place got busy. We ordered the vegetarian pizza topped with spinach, roasted red peppers, green olives, and onions, requesting a crispy crust. The crust was indeed crispy, just as my friend wanted, and it paired perfectly with the hot cheese and toppings. We really appreciated the kitchen's effort to cook the pizza to our liking, though I think I'll stick with the original NY-style crust on my next visit. The most remarkable aspect of dining inside was the atmosphere. The restaurant opens at 11, and we arrived at 11 on a Sunday to grab a table. By 11:30, the place was already filled up and bustling. I must give a special shoutout to the restroom--it's the most impressive restroom I've ever visited at a restaurant, let alone a pizza place. It's not just the decor or the space; it's the amenities offered. At the sink, there were stocked mouthwash, paper cups, cotton balls, cotton swabs, various flavors of gum and mints, hair ties, hair clips, combs, and sanitary items. This attention to detail shows how much the establishment cares for its customers and their comfort. Home Slice has been hyped up so much, I've been waiting to try them out. And the opportunity to visit came along with their promotion of free slice with your "I voted" sticker. I ended up getting a slice of the white pie with spinach and a slide of the pepperoni. I love that they sell slices individually and the prices aren't too bad. And I had to wait a little to eat but I'm sure it would have been even more delicious eaten fresh. The white pie was my personal favorite of the evening. Just because I love white pie in general, but they did not skimp on the ricotta which I appreciate. The pepperoni was also really good. Just a classic flavor, you really can't mess it up. I can see why home slice is so popular. I feel like not as many places do NY thin pizza as much these days. Unless I'm just not going to the right places. But it was really nice to come back to this style, when I usually lean more towards Detroit style. However, I think because so many people hype this place up, I expected the pizza to be mind blowing when it wasn't. Don't get me wrong though, it was still delicious! Called in and ordered a pizza to pick up on 12/04/25, around 7 p.m.-ish. Lady who took the order was very nice and friendly. Upon arriving, the place was like a madhouse. Not even parking for the sheer overload of people. Patrons scattered all over. No structure of a line whatsoever. The clutter and disorganization was insane. Lighting was too dim for it being night time. Got to the front and I'm not sure if the cashier was having a bad day or what (we're all human. I get it to an extent) but he was kind of rude and gave off the impression that me simply picking up my order was a huge inconvenience. I don't know his name but he had nail polish on. A legit NY-style pizza that won't let you down. We ordered a medium (recommended for 2/3 people)--half Margherita, half pepperoni & mushroom. The Margherita usually comes white, but we asked for a tomato sauce base, which turns out to be a good choice if you want half pizza toppings. The pizza dough is consistently well-cooked, with a thin, crunchy bottom layer. It's not flaky, but it's definitely crunchy without ever being burnt. Toppings are good, though not exceptional. The Margherita had a bit too much garlic for my taste, and the basil and garlic covered up the mozzarella and tomato flavors--I prefer a more balanced approach. The pepperoni was generous, flavorful, and just a bit oily. The seating is mostly outdoors, and you get a number when you order. Once your pizza is ready, they bring it to your table. They also offer oregano, chili flakes, and Parmesan to top it off. The staff is friendly and does a great job of cleaning the outdoor tables. Being from NYC I'm always on a quest to find the perfect slice when I'm traveling. Something about pizza gives me comfort and says "home." Home Slice Pizza was recommended to me by a fellow New Yorker who had visited Austin earlier this year. We happened to go check it out on Election Day and the place was hopping. There was a long line outside at the takeout window so I decided to go inside to see if there was a wait to be seated. We were able to sit right inside and order. Service was friendly, quick and efficient. The place was bustling and it had a really cool old school NYC Italian pizzeria feel. The pepperoni pizza was very good and reminiscent of NY style pizza in many ways. The sauce, cheese and pizza definitely had the taste but the crust missed the mark. Came in for a dinner with a friend and the ambience is really neat. There's a lot of interesting decor and in the bathroom there were mints, combs, and shaving supplies which gave it an interesting vibe. Our servers was really friendly and definitely made sure we were accommodated. The pear Gorgonzola salad was tasty and perfect to share between two people, but the wings were a bit disappointing. They were tiny and really tough and though the menu said they were "ethically raised" chickens, I think they were also just overcooked. They were doused in sauce and not particularly crispy so I would skip them but if you do get them, beware the spicy is quite spicy. I also had a F' heck Yeah cocktail which was a nice light drink with Italian ice in it. My friend got a wine and it came in the same regular glass which we felt was weird. I drink presentation could probably be a little better. The pizza itself is pretty good though I do think it's a little overhyped and I find the crust to be a little too thin.
