Pinthouse is an Austin classic with good pizza and beer. This South Lamar location has more space than others, so we came here with a group of around 36 people. We waited maybe 20 minutes to order then another 45 minutes for food, which wasn't that bad for a busy Friday night. We were crowded outside, and we didn't really have enough table or chair space. That's to be expected when we descended upon the restaurant with such a large group. For six people, we ordered three pizzas to share. We definitely could have shared with more people because we had some pizza left over. We got The Works, Shroomin' Goat, and Texas Chicken Ranch pizzas. The Texas Chicken Ranch was by far our favourite. It was really good, while the other two were alright. The crust was weirdly bubbly and amorphous looking. There was a lot of crust. The Works was okay. The sauce and meat weren't particularly tasty. The Shroomin' Goat was a vegetarian pizza with a lot of arugula, which is not my type of pizza, but our vegetarian friend said it was okay. The pizza is really good. REALLY. GOOD. But for the love of all that is good pizza order it TO GO. The vibes are WEIRD in this place. All of a sudden I was in a Dallas, and I did not want to be. It was loud, it was crowded, it was a bunch of Circle C empty nesters getting way too drunk, way too early in the night, and treating the whole restaurant like their own living rooms, taking up too much space at shared tables and all kind of odd behavior. TBF that's not really the restaurants fault. They were obviously going for chill beer garden vibes, but it remains a problem none the less. The service was SO friendly. I want to be clear about this, because the place was jam packed, and everyone who worked there was happy, respectful, and attentive, but... A whole pizza we ordered just never showed up, and we heard several people at tables near us having similar issues. One woman had gotten so fed up waiting she had ordered a pizza to-go to be delivered to her table. Again, though the guy at the counter was awesome. He was mortified our pizza had never showed up, and at our request comped us a really fabulous brownie dessert as a replacement. So, I almost didn't even dock a star, because it's not their fault their patrons are obnoxious, and being as busy as they were I think most restaurants would struggle, but... Came to this location with a choir group i was driving to their competition in Austin. This location was SO ACCESSIBLE and ACCOMMODATING!! There was a group about 60 kids and 5 adults that they served and were so kind to check in with over the course of our meal. The pizza itself was FANTASTIC! How quickly we forget that every place is packed on game days/nights. We ended up ordering to go, but the wait was still going to be 30 minutes so we decided to find a place to sit and wait. Eventually we got a table and decided we would just eat here. The ambiance is energetic and bustling. It's full of people watching and cheering on their teams. Since we decided to stay, we added a salad to the order. The salad came out quickly and was quickly devoured. The pinthouse salad is baby spinach, red onion, candied pecans, cranberries, blue cheese, and poppy seed dressing. It's a combination that works exceptionally well together. We ordered pepperoni with basil and since the order was to-go, the basil was going to be on the side (in a container). I don't know what the deal is with basil-do restaurants keep low inventory? do people complain about the flavor? Every time we order basil, we get like two leaves. Service was really fast and organized. I ordered the Italian sandwich and amerigo. I truly enjoyed the Italian one; it was so fresh, light, yet full of flavors. Their bread is amazing. Amerigo was also really good and light. I do wish they offered red wine; they only have white and rosé. We were coming off the plane and ready for dinner, so my sister took us straight here. There are a few video games when you first walk in (which my nephew proptly made me play with him), plenty of family style seating, and food and beer for everyone. They had a really great beer menu, which is seperate from food orders, it was perfect. The line moved super quick. They don't have any super fancy beers (i.e. sours/fruited) BUT they had literally everything else, and the ones I tried all tasted great. The pizza was actually pretty quick, and they are HUGE. The Honey Pear had an amazing mix of flavors, with the sweetness of the pear blending perfectly with the caramelized onions and prosciutto. My husband wanted to celebrate the end of his busy season with some pizza from Pinthouse. He placed the order online and picked it up. We shared many different items. First was two orders of Beer Mates which is Garlic Bread with a choice of dipping sauce. One was with cheese and the other was without cheese. Second was the Das Pretzel which is a fresh baked pretzel with a choice of dipping sauce. Third was the Pizza Roll which had cheese, garlic, and pepperoni with a choice of dipping sauce. For our main meal we ordered a large 16" Honey Pear Pizza which has cheese, caramelized onions, pears and blue cheese. For dessert we ordered a brownie with ice cream which is a chocolate brownie with Amy's Ice Cream and Caramel sauce. The Beer Mates were good. With cheese they were very doughy and the cheese was good. Dipping it in the Ranch dressing added to the flavor. Without cheese they were just as good. Not as thick and doughy but the garlic flavor was strong and dipped in the Ranch dressing enhanced the taste. The Das Pretzel was okay. It was warm but a little bit overdone. The exterior was a little bit crispier than what I am used to but the inside was doughy and soft. Dipped in the mustard which was a Dijon added flavor. The Pizza Roll was very good. It had all of the pizza flavors rolled up together into a few bites. Adding a little bit of ranch dressing was a bonus. The Honey Pear Pizza was delicious. It's seasonal so when we noticed it was available we got it. I love the combination of the flavors in this pizza. It's one of my favorites. The Brownie and ice cream was an enjoyable sweet treat. We warmed it up and then added the ice cream to it. I drizzled a little bit of the Carmel sauce on top just to try it. The Brownie was soft and chewy, the ice cream was from Amy's. It was a perfect mix of warm and cold with a slight salty flavor from the Carmel sauce. Overall a very filling meal with great options for all aspects of a dinner meal.
