This was a surprise find and a good one at that. On our quest to try out some of the best BBQ in the state that happened to be in the same shopping complex, we discovered this cool little brewery a few doors down. While waiting in line for BBQ, I was seeing people walking around with beer and coffee and being the follower that I am, I had to have it too. We kept one person in line and we headed to Slackers. Being in a shopping strip, there is plenty of parking all around. Customer service was excellent. They were patient with us and told us about their offerings. I also got to sample a few things that caught my attention. On the outside, it looks like your average storefront with a couple of tables outside. They do allow you to come back with your BBQ and eat on their outside tables. The signs says Slackers Brewing, but walking in, I was hit with the wonderful aromas of coffee. Not only do they do craft beer, they also have craft coffees as well. They serve coffee roasted from a local company. It's not your everyday coffee either. They are serving coffee from Mexico, Peru, Ethiopia, etc. I wanted coffee, but I wanted beer just a little more since it was hot outside. As far as beer goes, they have the usual variety of different kinds of beer brewed in house. Some are there to stay, some are rotating. They also have ciders, wine, non alcoholic beer, and beer to go. Since I skipped coffee that morning, I went with the Coffee Snout which if a coffee stout. I liked the flavor profile of the beer and I loved it packed a 8.4 abv. If hunger strikes, they also apps, pizzas, breakfast items and paninis. Overall, coming here was a very pleasant unplanned outing that we thoroughly enjoyed. I'd come back if in the area.

If someone suggested you go to a brewing company for coffee, would you? Ordinarily, I would say heck no! However, this recommendation came from a close friend who I respect their opinion. So off I went to Slackers Brewing Company in search of good coffee. I probably do not have to mention that I have strong coffee addiction. Smile. Slackers Brewery is a family-owned by a husband-and-wife team - Derek and Haley. I have to say this is the "coolest" coffee shop / brewery I have ever visited. First, let me just say that I had the most delightful time talking with Haley about the happenings at Slackers. Every Friday they have live music (in line with Austin's Live Music capitol of the world theme). On the first Sunday of the month, they have a Jazz Jam 4-6 pm. Also, on the second Sunday of the month they have a Jazz Jam Circle 1-4 pm, where different artists play within the circle...super cool concept. On Wednesday's they have craft night. Whatever craft you choose, you bring it in and while working on your craft you get $1 off beer all night long. I was absolutely enamored with the cool activities they have going on at Slackers brewery. The brewery has ample free parking. Slackers also indoor and outdoor seating. Their outdoor seating is pet-friendly for your fur babies. Important to note, they have "easy to understand" picture depiction of the brewing process. In addition, they have a kids area for family oriented activities. Now for the coffee...I had a latte but requested the bear design in my coffee (November special). The bear was so stinking cute. My latte had a rich, bold coffee taste. Really enjoyed the coffee...very soothing to my allergy sore throat. I am definitely returning to hear their jazz band or who knows, bring my scrap book during craft night.

Located literally walking distance from Interstellar BBQ. There wait time/line was crazy, so this was a welcome relief. So we walked over go grab a brew, like many others in line did too. Nice neighborhood micro brewery. They have an easy menu selection of light to heavy. And the server let us have a taste test before ordering. The place looked pretty chill. Inside and outside seating. Great for large groups. I feel like they had some games out. You can't bring the BBQ inside the place. But they did offer us there patio seating to eat our BBQ if we wanted/needed to - which was nice considering it's a seperate business. Drink- I went with the Bishop Cider and it was yum. Would definitely get again. Tasted like a sour, my style. Service- was easy, can't recall the gentleman's name, will update when I find my receipt. But he was kind and chatted with us.

Stop 28, & 3/10 for Texas on our Hundreds of Hops self-guided US Hop Passport Brewery Tour Amazing Brewery Race 2025 & our favorite stop of this trip (after 7 completed) These guys have a serious knack for flavors & a talent for brewing. How good was it. Well, we're sitting here debating another stop before we leave! Solid drinks and great people. Plus, to-go cups so you can stand in the line for BBQ- apparently often 2hrs wait. You can then bring that to the tables outside. Booyah We didn't try their food menu, or the bbq

My kids wanted to get dropped off at the Mall with some friends. I didn't want to drive all the way home and back. A quick search turned up a brewery I hadn't heard of called "Slackers". OMFG... every beer I sampled was AMAZING. I had a hard time choosing, but settled on the Humble Bee. A Beer Mead fusion... I was looking for a place I could get a drink and fire up my laptop for a bit to get some work done. Their webpage says "If you didn't already guess, "Slackers" is about giving hard-working people like yourself some needed slack-off time (though we won't be mad if you crack the laptop open...hopefully over a coffee or beer!)." PLUS... you can bring dogs! Close to home, great beer, super nice owners... I'll be back!

I must say, I didn't plan on day drinking, but when I saw their sign to-go beer, while waiting in hours long line for Interstellar BBQ, I knew my say was about to get even better. I took the short walk over, across the parking lot and was greeted by two kind individuals. Not sure who they were, but I had a good conversation with them and shared some laughs before I got my cider and left. Now let me tell you, the line was so long, that I had to, I HAD to go back and get more drinks, both for myself and my mom who was also in line with me. Upon returning, there was live music being set up which would've been nice. The inside seems pretty bare and has a very small kids play area, which I suppose would be appreciated by parents, but it also very much looked like an afterthought. The drinks were good and the staff were nice. I could see myself coming back here a time or two if I lived in the area.

Slacker Brewery is by no means slacking at anything. This husband and wife team have a great business going on. If talking beer is something you enjoy, he will gladly chat away about his process that makes the beer there unique. Numerous activities throughout the month and a small food menu as well. The beer is taken seriously and is crafted with pride. With a wide variety of beer, there's sure to be one that anyone would enjoy.

We were looking for something new to try and this popped up. We had seen and heard great things. The beer selection however was not what we were looking for as they didn't have one sour beer. We were kinda of surprised and there's a lot of local sour brewery's and options to choose from. We ended up getting a cider it was okay. Wouldn't order it again. We ordered the tots which I think was the best thing we tried . Tots's were crispy and the cashew queso was very flavorful with a hint of Smokey flavor -5/5 The grilled cheese we got was okay but needed something acidic to make the flavors come together. 3.5/5 We also tried the pesto pizza which again hit all the marks however it was 12$ for a small pizza that was appetizer size - flavor 5/5 , quantity compared to price 3/5. The staff wasn't too welcoming (3/5) They did have live music and the lady up there was extremely talented! I would give them another chance if I'm the area however I'm not sure I would go out of my way again just based on service and beer selection .

You are going to have a hard time finding another place that has an indoor kid area, great beer, and genuinely great people. Slackers is hidden inside a shopping center, and if you didn't know it was there, you would probably drive right by. The owner is typically always there, sitting behind the bar, being as friendly as can be. The beer tastes great, and they even have a stage for music and a back outdoor patio. The indoor kid area could use an update (and a cleaning) but I'm in no place to complain as I sit here, enjoying my beer.

Got a growler of All Yalls Hazy IPA and the beer tasted watered down. They also charge $24 for a 64oz growler which is the most expensive Growler I have got in Austin. This used to be my go to joint to get a Growler filled but looks like its time to find another joint.

Great family friendly brewery! We were waiting in line for bbq and noticed there was a brewery in the same strip mall so we popped in afterwards. Not a lot of beers on tap (6 of their own), but they are done extremely well. My favorites were the Black Kolsch (Night Jorts) and the Belgian Dubble (Doobeltrooble). They seemed basically perfect to me in their traditional styles. They also had a Voodoo Ranger, an Independence brew, and a cider on tap from other establishments. Definitely a great place if you're craving a beer and have your kids. They have a play area and paper and crayons, books, board games, and a foosball table. All play areas are right next to and clearly visible wherever you are seated so you can keep an eye on your little ones. They also offer a small menu of family friendly food options for very reasonable prices and they do have some items like the graze boxes centered more for adults. They also serve coffee which is a great plus for parents, tired adults, and people that do not want to drink alcohol. Lots of places to sit on the green picnic tables and they have a mini stage setup for live music nights and they have merchandise available to buy. They also had a small wall of beautiful stained glass art for sale by the men and women's bathrooms towards the back. It was a rainy day so they had the front curtains closed which made it pretty dark in there. They have a few tvs above the bar that were playing the sports all games of the day on mute and they had a mixed genre playlist going overhead. The aesthetic looks and feels like a sports bar. They have strong, free Wi-Fi, the password is canadiantuxedo and they have it posted around so you don't have to search or ask for it. I noticed that their brewing tanks were named which I think is a very cute touch! As a couple without kids it wasn't our ideal vibe and can get quite loud with kids running around which is why I'm giving a lower score as well as the limited amount of house brewed beers. They are newer brewery (2021) and I look forward to visiting again if we're in the neighborhood.

    Live music mini stage.

First and foremost, the business pride here is great. The owner Derek's passion for his beer and his business are top notch. He absolutely deserves praise for his charisma and dedication. The moment we walked in the door, we were welcomed and asked our story, told his story, and given samples of the beers. Derek's pride in those brews is evident in a delightful way that we so rarely get to see in business owners, post-pandemic. Slackers is a little hidden spot with a very nice indoor atmosphere that my husband and I felt was inviting. Unfortunately when we were there, the business was out of their IPAs which is entirely how my husband makes his beer decisions. However, the owner mentioned that he'd be bringing additional brews in for the fall, which we initially planned to come back and check out when the weather reliably cools down. For me, our choices have more to do with a balance between food, drink, and atmosphere. I want to acknowledge that the menu has a variety of choices (pizzas, paninis, pretzels, tots, chips/queso, veggies/hummus), and a rather impressive kids menu, considering the beer focus, which makes it clear that they want this to be a family place and neighborhood go-to bar. The food is decent, but the focus here is definitely on the beer, and that's fine! I think the only negative side to the level of service is that the food and drink options didn't quite live up to the hype. He talked to us A LOT (maybe a little too much) and really over-sold the quality of the food. There was also a heavy conversational emphasis on their "membership" which is $200 and allows you to come in and grab a daily beer all year long, which "pays for itself after 17 visits" according to him. If we were daily bar-goers, I imagine this might sound appealing, but we only frequent a small number of spots, and those are places we have cravings for. Living in Austin, there are so many choices constantly raising expectation levels for quality, and the ones we frequent most are for family meals where drinks are a bonus, so an annual membership at a place like this just isn't for us. The food at Slackers is okay, but it's not something we would return for specifically. We had the Italian sausage pizza with fresh mozzarella and red pepper flakes and the loaded tots with cashew queso and jalapeños. Between the two of us we had a Hefelump, a James Brown, and a couple of Milkmans. We spent around $60 with tip. It took me a long time to write a review because I struggled with sharing feelings about the place due to the level of attention shown to us during our visit. The owner was so enthusiastic and friendly with us when we walked in which was great... but it continued at our table, multiple times, even preventing us from digging into a hot pizza that he had set down in front of us. I remember thinking to myself that I really just wanted to catch up with my husband about our long workdays and eat our meal. The owner definitely cares about how people view the business, to the point of even saying that he strives to receive 5-star reviews and doesn't believe that customers should rate less than 5 stars unless there's "something wrong." I don't think a business owner should ever engage in conversation that makes guests feel pressured to review a certain way, or that the only reason not to receive 5 stars is if something is wrong. That's the point tho... 5 stars aren't just for when nothing is wrong -- 5 stars are for when you can't wait to go back to a place because it's SO good you would go out of your way to return. 4 stars are for good solid establishments that are repeatably enjoyable, and 3 stars are for average good places that were totally fine, but maybe just don't warrant returning. Slackers is a good neighborhood bar. A friendly one. A family-oriented one. Given its proximity to our house, we probably would have come back to check out the IPAs and other food, but we go to places to catch up with each other and enjoy a quick meal, and for those things, Slackers just isn't calling our name. Because of how much he loves his business, I initially felt bad being honest about the experience, but I hope this feedback is appreciated and serves as helpful. It is, after all, only one opinion.

Ask the Community - Slackers Brewing

Hi there! We're thinking about coming by for some beers, but are planning on bringing some food from across the street. Do you guys allow outside food while we drink?…

Hi! Since we are a full restaurant the health department does not let us have outside food brought in. That said, we have shaded space out back and covered tables out front that you are welcome to use and eat at.

    Is this place dog friendly?

Hey Sierra! We love puppers and have three at home. We can't allow non service dogs inside per the city code since we have a full kitchen but we do have a front patio and back area with tons of shade and grass, water bowls, and some special doggy… Read more

Okay - I only had two of their beers ... so I may have been freakishly unlucky. But since there were only 13 beers on the menu - 2 out of 13 both being bottom 1%-ers is not at all an auspicious sign. Yeah, they were both seasonal specials and not Zilker's mainline offerings. So it could be that the mainline offerings are better. I still don't like those odds. The two guilty beers were a) LA Pilsner which tasted like nothing. The bartender told me that this is a beer drinker's beer. Beer that tastes like nothing so it can be consumed in quantity is called "swill" in my book. b) Culture Creature which is a fruity IPA. This tasted more or less like cleaning fluid. * * * Now to be sure, the Zilker Brewery was unlucky on two counts. 1) I was there for a SXSW showcase. They are an outdoor venue - and the night was unseasonably cold. The Zilker Brewery does not control that. 2) It did not help that the first two bands of that showcase stunk up the house so badly I left the the showcase in disgust. (Including the once-good band I had explicitly come to see.) * * * However, as a Yelp reviewer, I do my best to be fair and objective. I ran into the two-bad-beer problem before I hit the freezing-my-ass-off problem and before any of the bands had started playing. So I knew where I stood on the beer before these other distractions emerged. Suffice it to say, I am not coming back here to drink any time soon.
