Central District is Austin's only downtown brewery, which has survived 7 years thanks to its great beer and space. They have the advantage of being right next to the convention center, which means a lot of foot traffic and the ability to host private corporate events (big money there!). However, the convention center is closed for a few years! Still, the siren song is bringing the crowds in and they seem to be doing a-ok. Here's to another 7! (Do need to levy a small complaint that the flights cost $18, though. Beers are otherwise fairly priced, not sure what's up with the flights.) read more

Great service, good bit of seating indoors and nice decor with all the plants. They had a decent beer menu as well as coffee and a few different cocktails if that's more of your jam. An excellent stopping point during SXSW, very near to the Convention Center and 6th Street, while not taking you very far from Rainey Street options. They have a good variety of microbrew options so even those who have a palate for brews other than IPAs will find options to choose from. We were waiting to embark on our duck tour around Austin and enjoyed a drink at the Central District Brewing. The design inside is very spacious, with communal and smaller table seating. It's a good hangout if you are looking to enjoy a locally made craft beer. Because I have gluten sensitivity to most styles of beer (at least stouts, sours, and Weiss), I opted for the Spicy ranch water, which was refreshing. This brewery was really chill, me and my boyfriend came on a Friday night, they have a Nintendo 64 set up and we played so much rampage. It was so much fun! Also, the bartender was a sweetheart. The Kolsch is super crisp and is the perfect pint for football watching. They had some well balanced sours along with a phenomenal west coast spa and Hazy. Our Bartender Joseph was great! Nice little brewery in downtown Austin, not far from the Convention Center. It's a nice alternative to the bars in the area on 6th. I believe this is the only brewery located this close to downtown. They have a wide variety of beers to choose from, all the major styles represented. Not a huge space, but they have a small separate room for private events. I liked that they do half pours, which allows you to try more. I ended up getting 4 of them-Stardust Salute, Talk Shows on Mute, Gold on the Ceiling, Casual Discourse, all very good IPAs. Bartender seemed cool and chill. Has games on a shelf I believe that you can use and play. No food, but there's plenty of places nearby. Overall, worth checking out if you're looking for a brewery in the downtown Austin area, likely your best bet. read more

I saw this brewery while walking to the visitor's center, so we decided to pop in to check it out. I liked the vibe of the place with the plants and calming green tones. The bartender was super friendly and gave some recommendations. Nate got a flight of four options and liked them all - I am not much of a beer drinker these days but I enjoyed the few sips I had. The space is cozy and definitely seemed like a nice hangout spot. There were some people playing cards while we were there. I loved their merch including a shirt that says "My favorite beer is beer" which made me laugh. I'd stop in again if in the area visiting! read more

This brewing company had a great selection of craft beers on tap ready for us to enjoy. My wife and I both shared a Belgian Quadrupel and a Hazy IPA: Gold On. They were really good and exactly what we were expecting out of this craft brewing place. The inside is a smaller sized seating area, and they have a few spots to sit outside in front of the building. I stopped here on a whim while exploring Austin via Lime scooter, and it was a solid find! A no nonsense brewery where I genuinely enjoyed every beer I tried-- A gem! We sat at one of the handful of the tables they have sprinkled in the sidewalk outside. The street was pretty low key for being to close to 6th, so it was enjoyable on the sidewalk! You still order at the bar which was no problem, and the service was quick and efficient! Rhythm is a Dancer stole the show for me! It's a sour, but it is muted enough that I could drink multiple without my mouth being pursed from tartness! The Kolsch was great, as well. We also tried the soft pretzel which was SO airy which I loved. It also came with a garlic sauce so not your typical pub pretzel, but a very tasty take on one! Employee's wore masks and maintained distancing, as well, which is great. We found this brewery on a list of spots still enforcing safety restrictions, and can confirm they were! read more

Central District is a great place to grab a quick beer for happy hour or get some work done. They have a generous selection of local, craft beers, including some that they brew in house. If you like sours, you can get a flight and try all of them! In addition to plenty of space for large groups or meetings, there are plenty of outlets around for getting some work done. Good beers for the location. We saw it was one of the few breweries that were in walking distance to us so we checked it out. Hubby got the flight with all the IPAs and I got the 8 oz pour of the Berliner Weisse. A little tart but it was nice and refreshing on a hot day. Hubby enjoyed his beers as well. Came by with good company for some brews on a hot Sunday afternoon. The women-lead space and brewski selections are rockin', but they're missing a key component--wifi. I know, I hate sounding like your typical phone-using human being, but every time I'm downtown wifi is super handy. It helps us decide where we want to go afterwards! Anyways, Central is set up like your typical clean and succulent-friendly microbrewery these days. They have board games and serve yourself water (sparkling OR still. THAT's a first!!). They don't have outdoor seating, but plenty of seats indoors. They also sell small bites and other drinks like wines and ciders. Their guest list is pretty solid with brews from Zilker and Independence to name a few other Austin loves. I got a taster of Central's own beers. We really did not enjoy the milkshake IPA that had a strong vanilla aftertaste. It was way too sweet, but to each their own. Their restrooms are clean and they allow outside food too. SCORE! Now if only the owners would install some wifi...our taptender told us that the owners are still getting that set up. So that's a great sign! The hubby and I are from Cali, so we are spoiled with some pretty good breweries. Came here on a Saturday for some afternoon beers. Was so good we came back Monday to finish off the weekend. There's a good variety of beers so we did eight tasters and ended up with three separate glasses. They had a special when we were there called the Apple cinnamon sour; it tasted just like apple pie. If they reproduce it, I highly recommend a glass. The place itself is super posh, establishment clean, service was great and staff very friendly. I would def recommend this brewery. Love this small brewery in a great location downtown Austin. The space is bright, clean, and nicely decorated. My husband and I both had flights. The standout was the Wit-tington by far. The Strawberry Wayne was pretty unique and had a nice pink hue to it. The staff was very friendly and gave great suggestions of which beers we should try. You can get a crowler of any beer, which was great for us to take home! Can't recommend CDB enough! Really enjoyed the indie 2000s playlist as well!!! read more

Slightly off the beaten path, near the visitor's center. Not a lot of signage, so a little hard to find. The beer menu wasn't extensive, and was heavy on the sours. I like a good sour so I did the tasting flight. Hubby had a Belgian Quad that was very good. The sours were quite tasty, my favorite was the Key Lime Pie Gose - all it was missing was a graham cracker crust! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, so if you have questions they can point you the right direction. Inside there were plenty of tables and you could see the brewing room. First and foremost- I have been wanting to check out this brewery for quite some time after walking/biking/driving by it over and over again. The random taproom hours and having my own things going on have always made it out of reach but I was finally able to itch that scratch and wow..soooo glad I did! Central District got it going on, with some phenomenal beers, a beautiful space inside, and such friendly staff working there. I ordered a flight of 4 beers (2 hazy IPAs, a sour, and a stout) and had to try the kolsch too since it was highly talked up by the bartender working. Not a single one disappointed, in fact they all blew me away. My favorite was the "Gold On The Ceiling" hazy IPA..already thinking of when can I go back to get more of it!! "Pick Up The Tempo" was the other hazy I got which was delicious, "Cloaked In A Violent Crown" was a black currant fruited kettle sour with the most vibrant color and full of flavor, while the "Goober State of Mind" stout screamed chocolate and peanut butter after each sip. The more that one warmed up the better too. "Kayaker's Kolsch" definitely is award winning, and I would put it up there with other breweries in Texas doing that style any day. Really enjoyed this spot. Didn't hurt that it was 2 minutes away from where we were staying and pretty much in the center of downtown. Love any place that offers beer flights, as it's the best way to really know what you like and what your taste buds are in the mood for. I typically go for lagers or Belgian-style beers and personally loved the Lingering Sunshine & Wit-Tington. The atmosphere is chill, laid-back, and the plants everywhere are totally my vibe. You can tell it's frequented by drinking tours as there was constantly small buses/vans waiting outside for parties drinking inside.
