Stopped to enjoy the weather and so glad we did. It was the kind of Texas day meant for beer on a patio. 512 doesn't disappoint. Cary was pouring, there were (I think) 5 brews on tap. We ordered an Amber and a hazy juicy ipa after sampling a couple others as well. Cary then poured me a taste of something that I didn't know existed! He had just pulled the last keg out that morning, and I'm so glad we were there to take part in it! After finishing our beer we grabbed another as well as a 4 pack of double barrel pecan to take home. We may skip back over today if the weather is the same! Not to be confused with 069 TNA which is what Barbi's brewing. We're not a fan of breweries and this is no exception. I think breweries in general are overrated and again this is no exception. Having said that this one is one of the better ones we've ever been to in Austin and their products are available all over Texas and are much better than some of the rifles. Cool brewery with a huge selection of beers, but nothing extraordinary. The brewery does not have an actual taproom open regularly, but instead is open only Saturdays from 12-4 pm in their parking lot. I went during their anniversary event and it was $25 for a glass that you keep and 6 8 oz pours of your choice (you can do 12 4 oz pours instead). Majority of the pours turned out to be larger than 8 oz so you can really get trashed here. They had 44 beers on tap. Pretty insane. Unfortunately, none of the beers were that great. They had like 4 food trucks and a lot of porta potties (lines can get long). Overall, this was a quantity over quality brewery. We had 4 people in our group and none of us were impressed, although, we are from California and are spoiled by all of the good breweries out here. I think all of the yelper complaints are the same: why not open more than one day a week? And for more than 4 hours at a time?! Maybe it's an exclusivity thing...it sure works. If you are visiting Austin and have a free Saturday early afternoon, be sure to hit up 512 for your beer desires. You can take your tasting cup home as a souvenir. They have outdoor seating, merch for purch, and are kid and dog-friendly. Double wow! My boyfriend and I made it to 512 at the tail end of their Saturday hours, but we were able to share a tasting for one. That was perfect because it was the safest way to drink, play some ladderball (it was my first time playing that!), and drive to dinner afterwards. They have clean restrooms and an easy way to purchase your guitar picks as proof of beer-drinking capability. When you park (plenty of parking btw), walk first to the door on the tasting room's left. You can purchase your tasting power, then head over to the main room for the adventure. When we went, there was basically one taptender pouring while a barback was helping him out with the glasses and stuff. It seemed like a lot of regulars were there, mostly 30+ in age, but all having a great time socializing. Me, happy camper. 512 Brewing Company taproom mostly outside. Ugh... You buy your beer and hang outside in beer garden. Very unique way to order beer. Buy tokens (12 for $24) at one location. Then walk to beer taps. Ugh... They give you two 8oz glasses. Yeah... Never a fresh clean glass to try delicious beer. This is a comfort I like in a taproom I feel it makes a big difference in flavor and service. My two cents. I have only had their IPA. I am an IPA guy. I like the classic flavors and full body beer. 512 Brewing Company IPA does a good job for me. I would like the tasting experience as an option. I really enjoy a 4oz sample to try all the beers. Came here during their passport beer event thing. There was live music and it was outdoors. It was $25 and you get to keep the beer glass. You get to taste 6 full glass beers or 12 half glass beers and can pick if you want them to pour half a glass or full glass. The beer list was extensive! There were probably 2 beers we really liked and tons of unique ones that were puzzling to us. They also served some complimentary cheeses. There's also a few food trucks for hungry people. Had a chance to go to their 11th anniversary fest and it was an experience to try the whiskey barrel double pecan porter, the nitro pecan porter, the pumpkin pecan porter, the cafe oh la la and many others I had no idea produced. Live music and many of their employees talking about their brews. Food trailers were good too. Had a B.A.T. I love the beer here, I love local beer in general but I cant tell you how many times I've gone to the bar and gotten the 512 Pecan Porter and been in some sort of chocolate roasted pecan heaven. My visit to the brewery was miraculous, I walked in to the smell of wonderful hops and saw the taps they were amazing. One tap was very special and used nitrous instead of co2 to pump the beer, they happened to have the pecan porter on tap as well many others. The Pecan Porter from the nitrous tap was smooth and creamy like a guiness but had so much more flavor it was amazing. My mouth jumped for joy with every sip. The taps were switch at some point and I had a whiskey barrel porter off the same tap which was ungodly good. If you want to have a good experience visit this brewery. I've been to several brewery's but this one made me felt smaller warmer and I felt more welcome.. and the beer was amazing. read more

The only way you can visit this brewery is to wait for their Seasonal Open House (so 4 times a year). My boyf and I went to their Spring Open House back in March - that was the first time we've been to the actual brewery. You pay $5 which includes a logo pint glass and 3 beers! I've had all their beers at local Austin/Houston bars and I really enjoy the Pecan Porter (although the pecan aspect is loss in the porter), but it's still damn tasty. The Open House lines form fast so get there early if you can. 512 Brewery recently started distributing their beers in San Antonio, so I can get it at Flying Saucer now! WOOT! Take the tour if you get a chance. If you are a beer drinker take a taxi cause you won't be able to get enough. I'm not much of a beer drinker and I almost had too much. The beers they have on tap are seasonal so unfortunately I was unable to try the Pecan Porter, but the Nitro was pretty good since I like dark beer. Whatever kind of beer you prefer they will have something for you on tap. The guy who led the tour was very cool and informative about the beer making process. I'm glad they are doing well cause their beer is pretty good. I can't wait to try their beer that were in the back aging in the wooden barrels. 512 had the honors of providing me with my first brewery tour. It was great, but definitely a little different than I expected. I attended the first weekend where they changed their "style" of the tour. They have not updated their website to list the correct details. Admission is $12 per person. This gets you the tour (optional), a small 512 glass souvenir for tasting, and 6 tickets for beer tasting. The tour is said to start Saturday's around noon. However once you arrive, they will let you know how long they are going to wait based on the amount of people waiting. (they like to fill up) That being said, we had about an hour wait outside on the patio-ish area (no cover, bring a hat & shades) to enjoy some brews! The weather was great and they have giant Jenga and corn hole for you to enjoy. Dogs are also welcome outside. If you plan to skip out on the tour and just enjoy the beer, bring lawn chairs as the tables get crowded after a while. IF you decide to attend their tour, keep in mind that it may not be exactly what you expect. The brewery is small and there are only about 3 sections to view in cramped spaces. Get up close to the tour guide so that you can hear because they do not use a microphone. They have some work do to on the tour, but overall I enjoyed it. Stop by 512! It's pretty rare that I like MOST of the beers at a brewery. Usually there's one or two stand outs, and that in itself is unusual. However, 512 takes the cake on my brewery tour of Austin this time around. We showed up around noon, definitely past their "tour" time and it wasn't even available on their eventbrite / website anymore. Regardless, the brewer (New-ish Guy, woo!) let us in the tour and filled our two glasses with delicious Pecan Porter that was on nitro at the time. I definitely loved their IPAs (IPA & Seven), their Wit was also not bad at all. The only thing I was a little eh about was their Pils and that's ok with me. They were incredibly knowledgable, the tour was fun, and they're doing some really cool barrel aged stuff that you don't see at a lot of breweries. They're also very dedicated to self distribution, despite how difficult that seems, so I'm definitely looking forward to other 512 beers I can get my hands on in the future. read more

I really want to give 512 a 4.5. Almost a perfect experience for us. My girlfriend and I went to the Saturday open house and it was great. For $12 you get an 8oz 512 glass to keep and 6 guitar pics to trade for different brews. There beers were all great, we even got to try some limited edition that's not being distributed yet. The "bartender" was really cool, knowledgeable about the beers, and overall pleasant to talk to. The only thing missing would be some type of food truck or snack. We did 512's Saturday tour yesterday and had a great time. For $10 you get a pint glass, tastings of their beer, and a tour of their facility. Be sure to buy tickets ahead of time because they sell out. We ended up at the 11am Saturday tour because the 12:30pm was sold out by Tuesday. The staff was really nice and open to answering all kinds of questions. We were some of the first people to leave because my husband had us on a tight brewery tour schedule, but it seemed like people could hang out and drink beer for as long as they wanted after the tour was over. I think I had 4 pours which were each about half a pint's glass worth of beer. They told us that they are bouncing around ideas of doing a small tap room at this location now that the beer laws in Texas have recently changed, but they might just wait until they upgrade to a larger facility, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how that pans out! 512's location is pretty central and so easy to get to, so it would be amazing if they opened a tap room. I'm updating my review for the four year anniversary party. (512) is a fantastic company, and not just for their product. I love how they openly advertised their anniversary to everyone! The workers are incredibly nice and passionate as well. I don't know how many people were here today for the anniversary, but there were a lot..... Anyway, I got to taste the pecan porter with blueberry and cocoa nibs. Did I just drink a pecan porter? Much sweeter, and went down incredibly smooth. Prior to that, I had the (512) four-- hoppy and bitter with a pack of flavor. Even after having the pecan porter, the nitro pecan porter, and the double barrel from my previous brewery tour, I'm still incredibly impressed with the quality of beers that come out of here. Came here with the fam-bam to celebrate Father's Day and we were not disappointed. There was beer for the whole family and the outdoor seating area came complete with bags, jenga, and ladder toss. The cost is $12 for 6-8oz beer samples! Probably the best deal in town. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a place to hangout with friends. I used to take the train downtown so I'd always stop at Champions by the station and have a Pecan Porter or three while waiting for a pick up. After relocating and driving myself to work like a pleb for the last 2 years the thing I missed most was the beer. The few times a month I'd venture into Specs I'd always ask the beer guy about this(and Hitachino) and was always met with the tired response citing the owners devotion to sustainability. I grew to loathe the environment. Every time I'd toss something in the blue bin at work I'd scowl. It just wasn't worth it. I wanted this beer in something other than a keg. Low and behold on my last trip in I see a stack of 4-packs of Pecan Porter. The most perfect stack since the pyramids. Beer guy saw me and came over to share in my unbridled joy. I feel like once you've seen a brewery tour, you've seen them all. 512 proved me wrong. I really enjoyed this smaller, more intimate tour. It all felt very personal and maybe it was because we were drinking at 11am, but their beer just tasted super fresh to me. The staff is extra friendly and I appreciated them being generous with the refills. Downsides are that the small group means you have to buy tickets online... which means planning... which means some of your slacker friends will likely get left behind. read more

Being a small brewery, (512) doesn't have a dedicated tasting room yet. However, they do offer weekly tours, which you can join for as little as 10 dollars and get a free glass. The tour is pretty low-key and tends to start early, making it the perfect start to a chill Saturday. But of course, (512)'s main selling point is the unlimited amount of beers that you can drink during the 1.5 hours that you're there. Some of them are decent takes on common styles, but others are little style-gems. Certainly give the pecan porter a try! read more

I've had the pleasure of enjoying their brews at a few places around town - Delicious and Satisfying! Their Pecan Porter, made year-round, is absolutely the best porter I've ever drank. For a town that likes music and drinking as much as Austin, I'm surprised we've lost so many good microbreweries over the years (and some that weren't so great and aren't missed). 512 Brewing Company is definitely in the top of current and past local microbreweries as far as I am concerned. I'm going to keep my eyes on this microbrewery, they're off to a very good start. I'd love to see them succeed and become a piece of Austin culture, and I'd like to see more quality local microbreweries and brew pubs (hint hint: 512 should open a brew pub of their own here in town; what better way to establish yourself than to provide a comfy pub with great food and brews?). 512's Grand Opening festivities featured a full line of merchandise and the opportunity to try all 3 beers. The Wit, once again, was great (I was told they brew it with coriander, interesting!) and the pale was better than when I tried it at the Draught House. Probably a different batch. It was still quite bitter but good nonetheless. The unfiltered IPA stole the show with a nice balance of hops. Thanks, 512! We hope you will host more open houses in the future! read more

I've been to several of their seasonal in-house tasting events, as well as the Gingerman's 512 pint nights. Judging by my 512 pint glass collection, it looks like half a dozen such events. read more

Though I'm nothing close to a beer connoisseur, going to (512)'s 4-year anniversary was a beer experience I won't soon forget. Grabbed some Torchy's en route to the brewery (def gotta have that hatch green chile queso). Paired with (512)'s new Four (hippy, hoppy, bittery flavor) and the Pecan Porter w/ blueberry and "cocoa nibs"? From my Yelp account, one can figure out that I dig chocolate and blueberries, and dark chocolate covered blueberries win me over. Put that in something that is already foolproof in the Pecan Porter and you got a malty, chocolatey concoction made for the sweet tooth. All the employees made the experience that much sweeter with a pretty orderly system and generous amount of beer samples. Live music and the Best Wurst being there in broad daylight were also pluses. At the end of the day, for a guy who simply enjoys a Fireman's #4 or any Shiner family member, (512) will join my beer family with open arms. read more
