We attended an immersive play here last night and were able to try their beers and look around the brewery. The location is not in downtown Austin which is already a plus and has plenty of parking. They have a few non-beer alcohol options which was good for our party as not everyone liked beer. I tried the Power & Light which lives up to its name. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and have a side party room that gives a nice trippy biker aesthetic. See my pictures for more location features. We passed this place twice driving by. It's in a warehouse district suite, a bit difficult to find. Outside the front door, they have a covered patio area. Inside has a few picnic tables and a pool table. The stills are in the taproom so it smells of sour beer. They brew mostly IPAs and one stout. They have merch for sale as well. read more

Food truck closed, no air conditioning and we're under a heat advisory, GPS directions are lame, bathroom is dirty but well stocked. Beer is good, staff is friendly and helpful, customers are friendly. read more

Carley is the bomb!! We were greeted immediately with friendly service. No long lines. We had such a good experience here. The beers are good, plenty of seating and parking. Inside and outside are clean and fun. This is a bit of a hidden gem. I will absolutely be back. read more

The beer was good, but not much of a selection if you like things dark. We sat in this odd side room full of lava lamps, several which appeared to be staring at us. They had a large TV with an FC game on, but there's just not a whole lot of atmosphere inside compared to other places in Austin. read more

Stopped by here for a beer on my way to the airport to kill some time. The bartender was knowledgeable and led me to exactly the IPA I wanted from 6 or 7 to choose from based on my description so service is top-notch. There's a cool seating area outside with shade and fans in front, and inside is cool with tables, bar, and a really cool dark room complete w egg chairs, uniquely lit sofas, and lava lamps lining the wall. Someone had some fun creating ambiance and a vibe. My beer was good and I'll be back to try a few beers I haven't seen in H-E-B like the Chocolate Stout. I didn't notice a food truck or kitchen, so that may be the only mark or lost star against this place...forgot to ask if dogs are allowed inside or outside. There is a huge big screen to catch a game here, but thankfully its volume was off and good music was being piped to hear. read more

Wow, definitely a favorite Austin brewery! I can't believe it took us this long to visit. We frequently order their beers while out to dinner or at the store so we were familiar with quite a few of the options before we arrived. We usually try to get a few flights (3 in this case, flights of 4 glasses each) and tried all the beers that we could, even some we've had by can or on tap other places before. My favorite beers was the Bavariant a Dunkelweizen, and the Session IPA, Power and Light. My husband absolutely loved the original Highboy (Double dry hopped DIPA), we even took a 6 pack home. They have a great deal that if you buy a 6 pack you get a free novelty glass. They had 3 different types of glasses to choose from with different beers showcased. The beer tender explained the beers very well and even though there were not many people around she was chatting with customers and getting lots of cleaning and organizing work done. The only beer I didn't care much for was the It's Your Boy Chamony, was very sweet and tasted like any other mass produced barely a sour, more seltzer type drink, otherwise I would gladly have every other beer again. They are super dog friendly! There was a well behaved a dog inside and one outside on the patio. They have plenty of dog dishes behind the bar to help keep your pup hydrated. The outdoor patio is a large area with plastic picnic tables with turf grass and an overhead shade. There was an outdoor Mexican food truck (not open for us to try, but very fair as it was Easter). Zappos Chips and a few other packaged snacks are available for purchase behind the bar as well. They also had a large black storage container that looked like it maybe opened up to be a platform or stage for outdoor music. Either way they have a lot of room and privacy at this location and could do a lot with it. There is most certainly plenty of parking and free Wi-Fi! They have a giant screen inside where they were playing old school cartoons, but had a great folksy/country playlist playing overhead inside and outside. Do me a favor and use the first bathroom (they were both nice and clean), there is a shower in it and the shower curtain will make you giggle! We had to take family to the airport on Easter and wanted to take advantage of being in the SE area of Austin. We called and were sent straight to voicemail, but we Facebook messaged them and it was seen and responded to right away with a friendly message that they were open and we were welcome in and we were even given the closing time. We'll definitely drive out of our way for this brewery this summer and onwards! read more

Prett cool place! The beers are really good, and they offer pizza, which was also good. Not a lot of people there on a Thurs, but that was ok. My Fav brew of the night was the watermelon sour. Little brewery in the back of an industrial complex that loves its sours! I prefer the Amber and Oatmeal Stouts. There is usually some kind of music on the outdoor stage. Small area inside to play trivia or board games. Grab your dog and come play Lotería on Sundays! Food truck on site: standard is Margie'z tacos, which is okay, but sometimes they bring in others. Overall, this is an easy afternoon kick back. read more

The wife and I are moving from Cincinnati to Austin and the staff couldn't have made our future home feel more welcoming. We're only down here for a few days to research houses and it was the same weekend the big FC Cincinnati v. Columbus Crew (AKA the Hell is Real Derby) played their big rivalry MLS match. If you're a fan of soccer, this place has you covered. They get MLS Season Pass and even though Austin FC was playing at the same time as FCC- they still went out of their way to ensure my wife and I didn't miss the game. If that wasn't enough- the food and beer was fantastic! Great service. Great beer. Great pizza. Great people. Couldn't recommend this place more. read more

Solid variety of beers, some seasonal, and enough space to bring a group (though not as expansive as some other breweries that have more patio seating). I went for the Beer My Valentine's event and the Garrison Brothers bourbon-aged Convict Hill and Indy's coconut-flavored Midnight Paradise were my faves. Tonight there was an open area for dancing and the food truck Killa Wasi was there. Really enjoyed our time there though the great event turnout made the beer line pretty long. Love me some authentic microbreweries. I haven't been to a solid microbrew spot since moving to Austin, so this was such a breath of fresh air. It seems like there are plenty of breweries that also double as restaurants and music venues--which is cool, I'm all for that, but deep down I'm a plain microbrew kinda gal. Getting here got me so excited as our GPS took us to industrial surroundings AKA the location of every great microbrewery. There is plenty of parking, and they had a yummy-smelling food truck parked outside, but we already ate so skipped that. My friend and I walked in and immediately felt the warm, relaxed energy that Independence had. I couldn't decide on what pint to get, so I settled on a taster set of four for $10. Not too pricey. The selections were not really in my favor, as I tend to go for wheats, belgians, juicy or hazy IPA's, or oatmeal stouts. However, I knew I would find something I'd like. One can never be too picky about beer. They also have board games and free stickers! I love that!! Their logo is the lone star on black fire--super cool. Our taptender was a wonderful and friendly man. I just wish he would have been a little more wordy with his explanations of the beer profiles. I'd assume that microbreweries attract devout beer drinkers and self-proclaimed snobs (like myself), so I would love it if he was able to elaborate more. Anyhow, I will be back even with a larger group (yay picnic tables!), but I hope that they have more varieties of beer, or that they rotate their taps often. read more

I also felt kind of weird about asking for a flight but then being told uhhh we're not doing those right now- seemingly bc the line was long. It was odd. Small indoor space, kind of lacking something aesthetically - compared to other Austin breweries. Good truck onsite but it wasn't that good :/ Overall just meh! Last stop of our brewery tour. This is more of what I'm used to in Florida... warehouse turned into taproom. Beers listed on the wall, not that many options here but still good beers. One of the beers I wanted to try ran out so they recommended another based on that selection. Good job, I liked it. It was a bit sour, so it hit the mark. But the one I liked the most was the End Credit Chocolate Hazelnut Porter. The hazelnut makes it smooth, and the chocolate flavor comes through as well. The staff was cordial, not overly friendly, but it's patrons sure are. They made room for us to walk up an order, they asked what I had ordered, and made recommendations based on what they had already tried. They had live music that day too. Very entertaining, good set, he even dedicated a song to one of my friends. Very cool! They have games like chutes and ladders, Rock Trivia, Oversized Jenga, and more. This is one of my favorite "hidden" gems. I don't know how hidden it is, but the first time I came, I was skeptical because it is tucked behind some businesses and inside a warehouse. However, once we discovered this great, laid-back brewery, we visit it at least monthly. Our favorite activity is Thursday night trivia with Geeks who Drink there. We've been a few times and it's always fun! They allow outside food, so it's always fun to pick up some bites and enjoy their awesome beer as we Geek it to random trivia. I highly recommend, especially on a Thursday night! Hope to compete against you soon! read more

Not sure why this is labeled as wheelchair accessible. I'm mobility impaired and couldn't use the steep sets of stairs to enter. The only thing that could have maybe been a ramp was a loading dock, which is really degrading. However the door to it was closed and had curtains over it. There wasn't anyone outside (customer or otherwise) who could help me, so I just left and went to Vacancy and Nomadic which are close and both accessible. Indep brewing has been around for 15 years but this brick & mortar is 5 years running. Cool location, industrial feel. But let's get to the beer selection.. Freak power is going for $2/pint right now! Honestly, you would be hard-pressed to find a deal this good anywhere in Austin TX. It's a hefe and goes down easily, very easy to drink. My personal fav is the convict hill oatmeal stout, coming in at 8% and tastes like coffee. Also very easy to drink and is a nice addition in "wintertime." Good place, fair prices, decent selection! read more

This brewery is an austin staple. I say hidden staple actually because it took a while to find this place, but once you do, you won't want to leave. With awesome craft beer, great hipster service and entertainment usually on the weekends you will have an awesome time. Try the beers on special, but also try the ones that are mixtures between two beers they are special and only unique to this establishment. The bathrooms are clean and there are snacks by the register, but be sure to eat before you get here since some beers are heavy and you might get full which really isn't a bad thing, but good to know! read more

Sorry, but this was a dismal experience. I like the beer I've bought in the liquor store, but this was my first trip to the taproom and it's wasn't good. I'm very happy that we weren't bringing out if town guests to this place. For starters, the venue is dark and poorly lit. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was empty. That's not a good sign. I tried a flight of beers to try something different from what I've been buying at the store. I didn't think any of them were very good. The whole idea was to sample something new, and maybe I can buy it in a six-pack. That didn't happen. There was a food trailer there, but at the moment it didn't seem appealing. This venue is not appealing. I will not be back. read more

When I was visiting friends in Austin last month, a friend and I decided to hit up a local brewery for a couple of hours (it's a tradition of ours). I had to pick up my brother at the airport after, so I was looking for a place that was southeast, so Independence fit the bill. When I lived in Austin, I used to drink Independence beers all the time, but I never made it out to the brewery. I was impressed! It's really large! Tables inside and tables outside. They have several beers to choose from. The line for the bathroom was REALLY long, but we happened to choose a day that had an event (puppy adoptions I think) and it was PACKED. All in all, good beers, they were playing good music, and I had a great time with my friend! Great afternoon, and I'd go again! read more

I go to Independence for the beer, but the play area is pretty fun, too. Food truck availabilty seems to be somewhat dodgy but is good when its open. Their Mexican Chocolate Porter has gotten me through a long winter. I mix it half and half with their Oatmeal Stout, which is available year round. Their hazy IPA is very good, too ... not quite as tasty as Pinthouse's Electric Jellyfish but certainly worthy of your money. Their Stash IPA is a monster hoppy resin blast and I like to drink it in the spring before it starts getting warm. Their Native Texan Pils, sad to say, is unremarkable. There are many in Austin I'd drink before it, including Live Oak's. Still, a great selection of beers and a mellow working warehouse vibe. I dig 'em. read more

It's a really large place and they set up picnic tables right outside the brewery. The Sunday afternoon I went, I believe there was some event wrapping up.
