Cute place. Little conveniences that are noticeable like bike parking. Shaded/covered patio in the parking lot close to the food truck. Overall pretty good brews and friendly folks.

I stopped by Southern Heights on a Saturday afternoon for a light drink, some tacos, and a new atmosphere with my partner. We really enjoyed it! We've live in the area for 4 years but have never made it over for whatever reason. We each ordered a beer (I got the ACMC) and sat down to send some emails and read our books. It was a little hot, I will say, even though we were sitting inside. However, we discovered that just behind the bar area, there is another larger seating area, and that one has big, industrial fans. We moved our stuff there and felt much more regulated in temperature! This back area has a ping pong table, cornhole, couches, and picnic tables. There is plenty of free parking in the lot out front, as well as outdoor seating for when the weather is not as hot. We'll be back!

We got here right at 3 o'clock when they opened and were the first two customers on aThursday. This brewery sits in what looks like an out of date 1980s office park with plenty of parking. Nonetheless, it's been cobbled together well enough to make it work, although they do not have any AC. They do have the largest ceiling fan I've ever seen that creates quite a breeze. Plenty of seating in front of the bar and another room to sit behind the bar. They do have some QR codes on the tables so you can order something from the food truck. Their beers are solid, on point and correct to style. They do self distribute kegs to bars, but you won't find their 6pks in stores. They do make a good diverse selection, which seems to suit everyone's tastes. This is a dog friendly establishment, and there are numerous picnic tables outside, some of which are in the shade. They also have some of their beers already canned up to go, otherwise, they're $5 to $7 a pint at the bar. It's a nice off the beaten path place to grab some good quality beer and kick back with friends. Photos included to get you acquainted.

Stop #140 of breweries! I can't believe this gem of a place isn't talked about more in the Austin area! We tried all of the options they had on tap with 2 different flights and 2 extra 5oz glasses. My favorite was definitely the Uncommon Grounds coffee Pilsner. We even took a gorgeous Crowley home of it. If you love beer beer you can't go wrong with most of these. Some of the best IPA's in Austin. If you're not a big beer person you may not find what you will like except for the sour or a light Pilsner, but as absolute beer lover I was happy with nearly every beer they had. The beer tenders were super friendly and took care with each customer. There were plenty of people with well behaved children and dogs inside and outside. There are separate women's and mens rooms that are fairly clean and even have their own air conditioners in them. Plenty of tvs for watching whatever game is currently on. The Wi-Fi password is HopsMaltYeast. They have some board games as well as corn hole. A Great Wall of swag you can buy from them. They had a food truck parked outside for what appeared to be Mexican food, we didn't try it this time but maybe next time. Everything smelled great when plates passed us by. No doubt we will be back to this brewery soon! Literally a hidden gem!

Love the patio and the beer, especially their not-so-sour raspberry ale. It reminded me of a lambic. Service was excellent and descriptive. We enjoyed the shaded area about the outdoor tables.

This brewery is a hidden gem! Tucked away in the outskirts of Austin, it truly is an awesome brewery. Came here on a Saturday afternoon, not crowded whatsoever, plenty of football on, and tons of good beer! The brewery is huge and has an awesome layout, plenty of seating outside too along with a food truck. The sour and IPA were delicious. Really enjoyed hanging out here for some football and beer. This place does not disappoint! One of the best breweries by far in Austin if you want a local and chill vibe.

Dog friendly, great cross-breeze, games, tv, delicious beer. We did not get food at the food truck, but that's a great bonus to have available. Plenty of seating for our group. A fun addition when brewery hopping!!

Visited this wonderful brewery with my boyfriend over Thanksgiving week, and they are well-rounded with great board games, awesome hazy IPAs, and free stickers, jk a wonderful spacious atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place for casual dates, group meetups, and all your brewery outing needs! We both had a pint of beer to start with, then ended up with a set of tasters each to try more of their other beers. I was so pleased to see on their menu tonnnnns of hazy IPA's, but also that they had a larger number of beers on tap to choose from! That's always a mini gold mine when there are over 10 beers on tap. There were two beertenders on shift when we went, and we had to wait a bit for us to get our orders in, but the place is so chill and so spacious that we didn't mind waiting. We saw a lot of other couples, small groups, and even people with their dogs inside!! So dog-friendly brewery, check! They also had cornhole indoors as well as pool! I love that this brewery caters to making itself a great source of beer, but also a great place to hang out. That is sometimes forgotten, but this warehouse style brewery does it all. Everything is super low-key, and they even had a food truck outside too. Their restrooms are clean, wifi strong, and their brewery holds plenty of parking space! I can't wait to come back again.

Great IPA's! This is also probably one of the most photogenic breweries if you're into taking pictures of your brew before you drink it. Ample indoor and outdoor seating. Cornhole indoor with AC. Food trucks outside and picnic tables. Very friendly staff and free stickers for your Yeti or beer fridge!

They have nice selection of beer's on their tap, they maintain seasonal specials. Keep it up guys

Hands down the absolute BEST IPAs I've had in Austin. I literally tried every single beer on tap and enjoyed all of them. It's a little off the beaten path but, it is most definitely worth the trip! They've got hazy IPAs for days and they can appeal to any palate. Walking into Southern Heights I wasn't the biggest fan of IPAs, I had never found one that really really did it for me...this place made me rethink my stance on IPAs. They are posted up in a super cool warehouse that's mostly open and is welcoming to parties of all shapes and sizes. When I went, there were even a lot of kiddos there. The staff was amazing, they were super knowledgeable about their beers and beer in general and they treated my friends and I very well! They have a food truck that comes on the weekend and it is for sure worth a visit as well.

Ask the Community - Southern Heights Brewery

    Is this place pet friendly?

We were there this year with our dog on a leash and briefly inside. No problem.

    Is this place kid-friendly?

It can be kid friendly. There was a toddler's birthday party going on in the back of the brewery when I went there in mid January. Obviously, it was more of an adult party with the license to drink while on kid duty.

In the attached picture from left to right I rank the sake from bad to less bad. The one of the right was bearable but I still would not buy it alone. Perhaps the japanese sakes would have tasted better? We also decided not to get the sushi hand rolls to try and make the drinks more bearable as they did not have much variety or sounded good. We got Texas Sake tasting to start with and this is where we finished. The flight looked very different from other people's reviews here and tasted VERY fishy. The yellow-ish one was probably the most bearable one but it still was not good at all. To be very honest, I really had to push myself to take more than one sip of each. If I had nothing to compare with, I would probably refrain from being this harsh, but I have had cheap and expensive sake and I have never tasted anything this bad... We looked at the hand roll options and we didn't find anything we would be interested in. The interior felt like it was a bingo room with a couple of Japan inspired booths that looked a little bit out of place compared to the rest of the floor. Gave one star for nice staff and a cool fish mural.

The sourdough pizza was really good--almost like a focaccia/Detroit-style hybrid, but with the sauce layered on the bottom. Super flavorful, crispy edges, soft inside... honestly just hit. Also--my husband was way too excited (in the best way) to see boiled peanuts on the menu, so of course we had to start there. Great call. We'll definitely be back.

The building is quite large and inside is cool as the seating is quite spacious and a large number of people can enjoy food and drink at once. Definitely not a tiny, small placed brewery...but it's true... everything is bigger in Texas! When we were at Pinthouse I spotted a Mexican Lager which is a type of lager I love and especially in warm weather... a perfect summer beer for me! The name of the beer was Burro's Breakfast. In the flavor profile of this beer you will find a naturally sweet corn flavor, some maltiness along with a tart and dry finish. The beer is light bodied like most lagers of this type and smooth in body. In addition to having a beer we also decided to get some lunch. So we got a chicken sandwich a piece along with coleslaw and had a very nice lunch. Coming to Pinthouse Brewing proved to be a good stop as we made a pretty extensive tour of the breweries in Austin.
