This was a really good brewery stop while we were touring breweries and taking in the food scene and the sights on a recent vacation to Austin. In fact quite a few breweries I guess go about their beer recipes differently than the PNW or the mountain states. Some people say it's the mountain water that adds to and is critical to a well made craft beer. So being in a different region and state that isn't in these areas I kind of was at times just a bit underwhelmed with some of the breweries we went to. They weren't necessarily bad but it wasn't what I was accustomed to I suppose. But there were a few breweries that were highly impressive and Southern Heights Brewery was one if them. Steve got a really good dark beer but I got an IPA that was really amazing. It was the Evergreen Terrace IPA. This was so good and very highly refreshing. Some IPA'S taste wise kind if blur together as far how memorable the drinking experience winds up being but this one was quite impressive and the rollout of the flavor profile was just great. Flavor highlights with this beer are piney, fruity, hoppy and a very appropriate amount of bitterness. It's also light bodied so the feel of this beer isn't likely to feel like a weight in your stomach which you definitely don't want if you come across a hot Texas day. read more

I stopped by Southern Heights on a Saturday afternoon for a light drink, some tacos, and a new atmosphere with my partner. We really enjoyed it! We've live in the area for 4 years but have never made it over for whatever reason. We each ordered a beer (I got the ACMC) and sat down to send some emails and read our books. It was a little hot, I will say, even though we were sitting inside. However, we discovered that just behind the bar area, there is another larger seating area, and that one has big, industrial fans. We moved our stuff there and felt much more regulated in temperature! This back area has a ping pong table, cornhole, couches, and picnic tables. There is plenty of free parking in the lot out front, as well as outdoor seating for when the weather is not as hot. We'll be back! read more

We got here right at 3 o'clock when they opened and were the first two customers on aThursday. This brewery sits in what looks like an out of date 1980s office park with plenty of parking. Nonetheless, it's been cobbled together well enough to make it work, although they do not have any AC. They do have the largest ceiling fan I've ever seen that creates quite a breeze. Plenty of seating in front of the bar and another room to sit behind the bar. They do have some QR codes on the tables so you can order something from the food truck. Their beers are solid, on point and correct to style. They do self distribute kegs to bars, but you won't find their 6pks in stores. They do make a good diverse selection, which seems to suit everyone's tastes. This is a dog friendly establishment, and there are numerous picnic tables outside, some of which are in the shade. They also have some of their beers already canned up to go, otherwise, they're $5 to $7 a pint at the bar. Stop #140 of breweries! I can't believe this gem of a place isn't talked about more in the Austin area! We tried all of the options they had on tap with 2 different flights and 2 extra 5oz glasses. My favorite was definitely the Uncommon Grounds coffee Pilsner. We even took a gorgeous Crowley home of it. If you love beer beer you can't go wrong with most of these. Some of the best IPA's in Austin. If you're not a big beer person you may not find what you will like except for the sour or a light Pilsner, but as absolute beer lover I was happy with nearly every beer they had. The beer tenders were super friendly and took care with each customer. There were plenty of people with well behaved children and dogs inside and outside. There are separate women's and mens rooms that are fairly clean and even have their own air conditioners in them. Plenty of tvs for watching whatever game is currently on. The Wi-Fi password is HopsMaltYeast. They have some board games as well as corn hole. A Great Wall of swag you can buy from them. They had a food truck parked outside for what appeared to be Mexican food, we didn't try it this time but maybe next time. Everything smelled great when plates passed us by. Came here on a Saturday afternoon in the summer and had a mostly positive experience. Definitely planning to give this spot another try, just not during a heat wave We decided to give this spot a try when we saw it had a large indoor space as that's a little harder to find for breweries in Austin. While that is the case, there were some issues keeping the place cool. After hanging there for a little over 2 hours it did occasionally venture into uncomfortably hot, so if you're going on a similar search you may want to look elsewhere. With that said, they have ample, reasonably comfortable indoor space, a couple of TVs, and board games The staff was very friendly, my server gave helpful recommendations and even added in an extra beer to my flight for free! Unfortunately the taste of the beer was comprised a bit by the temperature. My guess would be they were mostly near the end of the keg and quickly got even warmer due to the temperature in the tap room. The flavor was good enough that I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and want to try again, particularly given the wide range of interesting options they had. Overall, I think this spot is worth a try if you're looking for a more under the radar brewery in town, with the given temperature related caveats read more

We went for the austin fc game earlier. It was probably my 12th time there but first time in over a year. They almost always have a food truck out front and have some of the best core beers in austin imo. Tahitian dreamin ipa is my fave and easily top 10 of atx beers. They usually have good sours as well as pilsners and fannel weather is always solid. Good space for large groups and kid friendly (no playscapes tho). Good drinks, good service, weird that it was in a warehouse though. Went here when it was a little chilly outside and they don't have an actual heater or AC so it was a little cold in there. A friend I was with said the same when it's summer, they'll open up the garage doors to let a breeze in but it's still warm if it's hot outside. If you're coming with kids, not the best play area. There's room to like run around a little but no actual area to entertain the little ones. Food truck outside was amazing though, would be back just for that. read more

This is a really nice brewery. Very spacious with plenty of space inside and outside seating as well. It's also dog friendly, so my dogs are a fan people watching. I think they typically participate for the Barks for Beers event so I'm sure I'll be back soon. Enjoyed my first visit to Southern Heights! The staff was friendly and there was a decent selection of draft brews to choose from at a reasonable price (I enjoyed their sole Porter, the Samoan Joe). I hope to try something else on the menu if they grow their dark beer menu. The environment was great on a Sunday afternoon, with several folks there enjoying the NFL playoffs on their TVs. Wish they had a bit more to choose from in terms of snacks or food (TacoWey is a decent food truck parked outside). Visited this wonderful brewery with my boyfriend over Thanksgiving week, and they are well-rounded with great board games, awesome hazy IPAs, and free stickers, jk a wonderful spacious atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place for casual dates, group meetups, and all your brewery outing needs! We both had a pint of beer to start with, then ended up with a set of tasters each to try more of their other beers. I was so pleased to see on their menu tonnnnns of hazy IPA's, but also that they had a larger number of beers on tap to choose from! That's always a mini gold mine when there are over 10 beers on tap. There were two beertenders on shift when we went, and we had to wait a bit for us to get our orders in, but the place is so chill and so spacious that we didn't mind waiting. We saw a lot of other couples, small groups, and even people with their dogs inside!! So dog-friendly brewery, check! They also had cornhole indoors as well as pool! I love that this brewery caters to making itself a great source of beer, but also a great place to hang out. That is sometimes forgotten, but this warehouse style brewery does it all. Everything is super low-key, and they even had a food truck outside too. Their restrooms are clean, wifi strong, and their brewery holds plenty of parking space! Hands down the absolute BEST IPAs I've had in Austin. I literally tried every single beer on tap and enjoyed all of them. It's a little off the beaten path but, it is most definitely worth the trip! They've got hazy IPAs for days and they can appeal to any palate. Walking into Southern Heights I wasn't the biggest fan of IPAs, I had never found one that really really did it for me...this place made me rethink my stance on IPAs. They are posted up in a super cool warehouse that's mostly open and is welcoming to parties of all shapes and sizes. When I went, there were even a lot of kiddos there. The staff was amazing, they were super knowledgeable about their beers and beer in general and they treated my friends and I very well! By far one of my favorite breweries in Austin!! Definitely a hidden gem! I come here all the time and every time I come, it is a great experience. The staff and the two owners are extremely friendly and welcoming. They have a wonderful selection of IPA's (probably the biggest in Austin), as well as a great selection of light beers and delicious dark beers. Regardless of the type of beer you like, I am sure you will find one of their beers amazing. And they are very good about letting you try whatever you want to make sure you get the right beer. When people say of hole in the wall, they're thinking of Southern Heights. Literally nestled in an out of the way office complex, one would never know! Places like this don't attract uppity people and the interiors resemble that. A great color scheme with not a lot of exotic patterns, the place is rustic and industrial. One of the owners, Mike, will graciously give tours of the brewery that produces the beer sold up front. The beer selection is IPA heavy. Though the selection changes, at the time I went there was five IPAs to choose from. This brewery leans towards dark and bitter beers. A friend mentioned to me that drinking one beer felt like drinking three, and for me the coffee stout hit me harder than anticipated. I went here with my girlfriend to play some boardgames and try some new beers. The beers here were awesome and very drinkable. This was a great find. Service was exceptional gave a military discount of Veterans Day which was very nice. The evergreen IPA was very good kept us there for a few hours.
