Home Slice Pizza on Congress Ave., Austin TX.
Shaun K.

Home Slice Pizza never disappoints! The flavor of their pizza is great and I especially love their crust. I live in Temple, but I make it a point to visit Home Slice whenever I'm in Austin. They have two locations and both are great. I really enjoy people watching at the Congress Ave. location. The service is great and they've made an effort to increase their outdoor seating. Everybody's just out there doing their own thing. Love it!

Stopped by for lunch and was greeted by a friendly face. I didn't make it inside as I saw they had a walk up order window outside. Ordering was quick and easy and the gentleman who took my order offered me complimentary water which was perfect for this hot day. The pizza was reasonably priced and I was left wishing I'd ordered a second slice . The pizza tasted light and fresh, not too greasy and it was a decent size! Looking forward to coming back to enjoy the chill vibes again and check out inside!

Home Slice Pizza on S. Congress is a popular Austin spot known for its New York-style, thin-crust pizza. Even if you're not a pizza enthusiast (like us), their crisp-yet-chewy slices are worth trying. The restaurant was busy with both locals and tourists. The staff was notably energetic and friendly as they called customers names for both on-site dining and "to go" orders. Home Slice Pizza dough is made from water, salt, olive oil, yeast, and flour, then fermented for 72 hours for consistency. Toppings include options like fresh basil, black and green olives, mushrooms, onions, pepperoni, sausage, extra cheese, and more, with premium toppings such as fried eggplant, ricotta, artichoke hearts, meatballs, and vegan cheese available for an additional charge. We had the Margherita pizza, which was good and not overly filling. Super busy environment...

Forever an Austin staple. This last round we skipped the pizza for the half Caesar salad and the half Italian sandwich. It was enough for two to share I know the sticker shock hurts if you see the whole sandwich ($22!!) but I'm telling you.. the hype is worth it.

Yeah, I'm doing the classic Home Slice review in Austin. But it really is as good as everyone says and it's a reason that this place is an Austin staple. Despite the soco location being the most well known, I am more fond of their spot down off airport blvd. First off, every time I go, the staff are so sweet and kind. Always so friendly and welcoming. I also prefer the outdoor seating and generally homey vibe of this location. On to the pizza, yeah it's that good. Every slice I've had is cooked perfectly with the crust having a light crunch that you just want to keep chewing. The toppings are loaded on top and the price for a single slice is really good when you take into account just how big they are. I also love getting a caesar salad to pair.

The soco location is great, but I find this location superior! It's very homey. The interior is eclectic, and their patio is the spot when the weather is nice. Get here early because once school is out, it starts getting packed and the line for a table can get long. And it can get dirty if that's not your vibe with the kids running around, then sit inside. You have to get a sandwich and a pizza if you've never tried Home Slice. The sandwiches are so good (and there's a veggie option), and ask for the pizza to be crispy!

We loved it so much we got Home Slice again for a party later that night.

Home Slice Pizza in Austin is officially the best pizza I've ever had, and I'm not being dramatic. The slices are MASSIVE, like "you have to fold it or you're going to wear it" huge. The crust had that perfect chew, and it was just straight up great pizza. We ate there and loved it so much that later that night we threw a little party and ordered Home Slice (again) delivered, and it still hit just as hard the second time! Everyone at the party loved it. Don't skip dessert! Their cookie was legit, so soft and loaded with chocolate chunks. For some reason, an awesome cookie paired with the best pizza is an elite combo. The dine in area isn't huge, but they're always busy because they're that good, and it's worth the wait. Sitting inside isn't impossible though, and it has a really cute old-school pizzeria vibe that feels authentic (not in a gross way). The staff is INCREDIBLY nice too and went out of their way for me multiple times, which just made me love the place even more. If you're in Austin, this is a must. Go hungry, plan on leftovers, and accept that folding your slice is part of the experience. Easy 5 stars from me.

Dec 13, 2025 review: ---- This is one of those late night cravings place but with the good food quality. They have 2-3 options for vegetarian in their slice options. Super easy to order. You can just order through the window, no need to walk inside restaurant. Plenty of seating both outside and inside. Outside is also huge with place to sit in front, side and back area. Full menu is also available with salad, calzone, full size pizza portions. 1-2 pizza slice maybe a enough for one person depending on how hungry you are. It's decent size pie. They do have chilli flakes and oregano (which I hardly find at any pizza place). Overall really good place to keep in mind if you have late night cravings for pizza.

Roger A.

This place was great. I went in for a late night pizza slice. I had 2...a pepperoni and a broccoli and feta. Both were amazing. I also returned the next day and had a calzone. Also good. This place is very efficient for the large foot traffic they have. I did have to wait about 45 min for the calzone but I had fun people watching.

Whole meatball sub ($22)

Home Slice gets a lot of hype in Austin but I truly believe it really is that good... it's some of the best NY style pizza you can get here in Austin and the subs are PHENOMENAL! They're open late, the pricing is reasonable, and the portion size is fantastic! FAST FACTS: * Parking - small lot in front of the building with some neighborhood parking nearby(can be tricky if they're busy) * Online ordering - available for pickup on their website * Pizza available by the slice or pie * Counter to the left when you enter for pickup orders and pizza by the slice SERVICE - We arrived at 9:20 pm on a Saturday night (on their 20th birthday celebration) and were seated right away. They were busy but the service was great... our server Nate took care of us from start to finish and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered everything at once and they brought out the 2 slices first (about 20 minutes after ordering) followed by the subs (10 minutes later). PRICING - The total was $61.98 after tax ($4.73) but before tip for an iced tea ($3.50), pepperoni slice ($4.75), white pie with spinach slice ($5), whole meatball sub ($22) and whole Italian sub ($22). At first, $22 for a sub might sound steep but they are MASSIVE... two people could split a sub and be good to go! I think the pricing is reasonable for the portion size. PEPPERONI SLICE (8/10) - Classic NY style and it's done right... the crust is what makes it! It's foldable but not floppy and the pepperoni are crispy but not burnt. It's a great slice of pizza! I'd order this again. WHITE PIE WITH SPINACH SLICE (7/10) - This was one of the daily offerings for slices and I wanted to try something different... it was super cheesy and good! I'd probably get a different slice next time but I'm happy I tried it. ITALIAN SUB (8/10) - First of all, it's MASSIVE! The sesame seed bun is different but it works! There's also mayo on it which I really enjoyed. This is one of the best Italian subs I've had, especially in Austin. I'd order this again. MEATBALL SUB (8/10) - Again, It's MASSIVE. It's loaded from the top so it holds together pretty well. The meatballs are flavorful and juicy, it has the right amount of marinara sauce, and the cheese is super melty. Just like with the Italian subs, it's one of my favorite meatball subs here in Austin. I'd order this again. This was my second time trying this Home Slice location and I've also been to the SoCo location... both are great but this one is less busy. I'll definitely be back when I want NY style pizza or a massive sub (especially late) and would recommend it to others. Don't be afraid to get more food than you think you'll eat and take it home (both the pizza and subs reheat well and don't get soggy)!

First time visiting Home Slice's E 53rd St location! There's a small parking lot out front and some spots along the side. We came on a Wednesday around 4 pm, and were seated almost immediately. The interior design is very charming, complete with red gingham tablecloths and ambient lighting. (Side note, their bathrooms are quite nice too.) Our friend group all decided to go for "Pizza by the Slice." The slice pies change everyday and there are both thin crust and Sicilian (deep dish style, available until 5 pm) options available. Initially was going to order the Sicilian Pepperoni, but decided to try out the Special Slice after our server finished describing the options! Special Slice/White Pie ($5.00, 5/5) - The white pie comes topped with spinach and a good amount of ricotta! Very flavorful, and the ricotta was rich and creamy. - The (thin) crust was well-seasoned, warm & crispy - Fan favorite out of the group (with many of us getting another slice to-go). Overall, Home Slice is a great meet-up spot for delicious pizza! Would highly recommend giving the white pie a try if you haven't already. Will definitely be back to visit again!

In Austin for work and personal. Not ashamed to say I had it twice in one week. First time, work peeps, large group of 10. Waited maybe 20ish min which wasn't too bad on a Tuesday night. Unfortunately I wasn't feeling super great so couldn't fully enjoy my meal. Got the margherita pizza and had a little of the house salad. Salad was light and refreshing but could have used a little salt. Second round: feeling much better and got to enjoy more. We came for lunch right when they opened. We got a nice assortment of the menu. Order: medium buffalo wings - on the small side but enjoyable Chicken parm sandwich- got a nibble , so good. Bread was soft, chewy, and crusty. Pizza: large pepperoni with half having mushrooms and basil Caesar salad: the dressing had a light zing to the traditional Caesar Both times servers were great. Attentive, nice, and helpful with ordering for a big group.

Man do I love this homeslice location! The outside environment is just perfect for having a big group of friends or just sitting with your partner. Don't get me started on the pizza and Italian sub it's so ridiculously good. Staff is always so friends and come out quick with the food. 10 out of 10 please never change Homeslice on 53rd!

After saying "we need to go there" at least 30 times, we finally went there and boyyy howdy it did not disappoint! The Cuban and club were 10/10 perfect! The bread was so fresh, crispy where it needed to be, and buttery in all the right places. It was a perfectly balanced sandwich ratio, not too thick, not too thin, and came with chips or potato salad. The in-house beer is great, and there's something for anyone's tastes, plus non alcoholic options. We sat outside with our pups on the dog friendly patio, which is fully covered and shaded, with tons of great seating options. The parking is shared and gets packed in the evening or you have to pay to park if you are unable to find anything in the lot or on the street. Handsome Dans has a sign directing you to the back where they are located. The vibe is true to a bait shop/diner it's casual with a rustic feel, they have a large covered patio adjacent to Stargazer bar. I highly suggest sitting outside if possible because the inside does get a bit claustrophobic and smokey when it's packed and they are smashing paninis on the press with no proper kitchen overhead vents. The type of greasy smoke you get when you are making super buttery sandwiches on a hot press. The sandwiches are ok but not something I would go out of my way to have ,our kids liked the hotdogs and Frito pies which were also kind of "upper class" gas station quality. Most of the stuff here is food that probably tastes way better after drinking several beers. It's like any normal sandwich you could make at home and toss in a panini press to be honest. Really good beers on tap and friendly staff who seemed to disappear to the back quite a bit and came back confused. They didn't know if they had already given me my food because I was ordering and paying for extra food after more people in our party arrived. They literally saw my food I already had on the table from my previous order and thought they gave me double of what I ordered hahaha. I can't make a judgment because I have no clue what they kept dispersing to the back for but can just say the confusion was real, LOL. All together if I had to come back it be because someone I knew wanted to try it. Otherwise for me it's a one and done. I got the pictures I stood next to a sign ,I had the Signiture sandwiches, now I'm moving on. I can say I've been there done that. I'm guessing that a college crowd or just being a single person who just wants to be amongst people that this is the type of lowkey place to go if you're not into the typical Longhorn hangouts. You stop in ,have some beers, eat a low budget ingredient expensive panini sandwich and chill till you have to call yourself a Waymo cause the beer is good and strong.

Kitchen and smoothie room in the back. The staff running this place are quite nice. The choice of artwork adorning the walls appears to be different from other Soup Peddlers. What's good about Soup Peddler? Despite their name, I prefer their smoothies over their soups. Their soups are prepared offsite and delivered in the morning to all Soup Peddler locations. Thus, no location is aware or can predict what will be on their menu for soup specials each day through the week. However, other than their daily specials, they usually have a set soup menu. Their soups are served in a paper cup, and you can get crackers and oyster crackers with them. They also offer grilled cheese sandwiches. Those sandwiches are, well, pretty small and simple. I've had their Apple-Muenster Grilled Cheese, no complaints. Don't expect to be filled up on that though. Again, smoothies are where it's at. They offer monthly smoothie specials, discounted daily smoothie specials, and staff favorite creations. Of course, you can always create and customize your own. I tend to get their matcha, turmeric, or banana and nut based smoothies. Any sweetness is obtained from their fruits used, but sometimes date syrup is used as an ingredient. From smoked pastrami to smoked bologna, I can't say enough good things about their meat selection…read more The pastrami and brisket had differing but great flavors that make it easy to order both even though they're the same cut. Both were well smoked, had the fat Smokey and rendered down, and was tender without falling apart. Their smoked sausage selection was also fantastic. I was blown away by the jalapeño cheddar sausage because most places I've been to have that cheese and jalapeño in chunks but not here. It was rendered into the sausage without changing the texture and mixed in perfectly. Their smoked bologna was also something unique to me as I wouldn't normally order it but boy was it good. Less salty than the commercialized stuff and significantly better bologna flavor. Their ribs seem to be brined with something sweet because even without sauce, it was sweet, tender, post oakey and with their own flavors that make it a must have. The last thing I got there to share with friends was the TX cheesesteak made with brisket. Not too salty, super savory and when you add their hot sauce to it, it created a perfect balance. They also have some fantastic collard greens that are cooked with pastrami and/or brisket depending on their offerings. Because they're also a deli, they have some in house pickled vegetables that are a nice contrast to their meats. Their potato salad was good but didn't really stick out. Last but not least, their baked beans were not my cup of tea but my friends liked the flavor but wished the beans were a little softer. Finally, don't skimp out on their deserts. We had their browned butter chess pie and boy was it worth it. It was buttery, almondy and silky. My friend also got their cheesecake and said great things about it. Their service and ambiance was quite nice there. Their manager met up with us and even though we gave him some trouble about not having ribs yet, he got those out to us when he said he could and also told us about the history of the restaurant. Super friendly and allowed us to have a great time there. Plenty of seating but I'd recommend getting there early if you have a group. All in all, great varied offerings from meats to sandwiches to deserts. Go check them out!

OVERVIEW: I tried to pick up my online order from Mum Foods, but turns out someone stole my order…read more Bummer, but whatever - this is something that's usually an easy fix. We're human - shit happens, and mistakes are inevitable. But it's how people react that speaks volumes. **What surprised me was how unnecessarily rude the Mum employee was about it.** Orders are left on Mum's counter for DoorDash, Toast, Grubhub, and Seamless customers and delivery drivers to grab without a Mum employee checking order confirmation emails. If someone steals another customer's order, the *normal* response is to confirm I'm really the person who placed the order, then say "Oh sorry about that, looks like someone else took your order. We'll get you squared away with a replacement ASAP. In the meanwhile, could you please contact DoorDash to let them know?" ISSUE: Instead, the employee expediting orders was crazy defensive and rude about a situation that was no way my fault. TIMELINE: - I placed a pick up order via DoorDash at 12pm. I arrived at Mum's pickup area at 12:15pm. - When I tell the employee expediting orders my name, he says "Yeah, it was already picked up," and walks away. - When he returns, I explain I'm the person who placed the order, but I didn't pick it up. - The man says, "Like I SAID, it was already picked up," so I hold up the email on my phone, and say "I can prove I placed the order, but I don't have my food." - He replies, "Yeah, the order was sitting there for a long time. Someone already picked it up." - I tell him "I don't know what I'm supposed to do with this information. I paid for my order, but I don't have any food," and he tells me I need to contact DoorDash. - I tell him "I'll contact DoorDash, but they can only give me a refund. I'd like my food?" Only then does he tells the staff to get me a new order and tells me "LOOK, we're getting you your food." UPDATE: Mum Foods Management replied with a bizarre comment. Mum claimed I was 90 minutes late picking up my order, saying I picked up my order at 2pm. - So which is it? Someone stole my order OR was I too late picking it up? - Their rebuttal may explain why the employee felt justified in being so rude - he incorrectly thought I was late picking up my order. Either way, there's no reason to be rude. - I was NOT 90 minutes late (I have Ring footage of leaving my house at 12:10pm for Mum Foods and returning home at 12:37pm with my order in hand), but Mum's argument is moot either way. If I were hours late, the order should still be there for pick up because the business is supposed to check names. "A 1 star review really hurts a local business like us and I hope you reconsider" - If you don't want a 1 star review, respond with a sincere apology, and don't be rude to customers or lie in your response. "For what its worth we prepared your food twice and obviously lose money in a situation like that" - If you don't want to lose money by preparing an order twice, you should confirm names when people pick up orders.
