Home Slice is where it's at if you're looking for a change from all the meaty bbq places in Austin. There are two locations and we visited the North Loop shop which was bustling on a Friday night. There were a few chairs available in the take out area, but we opted to sit in the dining room and put our name in the list. It's got the same vibes you'd see in a gangster movie, with red leather backs and dim lighting. However, the hostesses and waiters are so gracious and warm, that's there's nothing but hospitality pouring out of this place. The hubby and I ordered the regular size of the pear, Gorgonzola and walnut salad which was generously dressed. I didn't realize the salad came with two garlic knots on the side or we wouldn't have ordered a 4-piece garlic knot. However, that marinara they're serving it with is killer. So good, with a hint of sweetness and tang and pairs well with the garlic and olive oil laced knots. We then ordered slices of pizza; I got a single slice of cheese which was superb. The sauce is outstanding and I could eat it all day. My husband ordered two slices of pepperoni which had the perfect amount of grease to it. August 2024 A recurring recommendation from locals has been to check out Home Slice for some great pizza. Boy, were they right. I had the pleasure of stopping by this weekend. I ordered a slice of cheese and a slice of pepperoni...both were on par with the best slices I've ever had. They had crispy, crunchy bottoms with chewy centers. The cheese was stringy and savory. With every bite, it was clear to me just how much time they've spent perfecting their pies. So, I'm officially on the bandwagon. Home Slice has awesome pizza. Definitely recommend. A few notes for first time visitors: Parking: I arrived about 15 minutes before the doors opened. Parking lot was empty. By opening, the parking lot was 3/4 full. By the time I left, about 30 minutes after opening, the parking lot was packed full. So, get here early. Moreover, the parking lot is small, so it gets really cramped once oversized vehicles start finding their way into parking spots. So, park strategically. Slices and To-go vs. Dine-In: There are two counters. To the left of the main entrance you'll find the to-go/slice counter. There, you can place/pick orders for carry out or buy a slice to enjoy on the spot. You may eat your slice in the outside seating areas or in the small waiting area connected to the to-go/slices ordering area. Instead, if you go through the main entrance, you'll be greeted by a hostess for dine-in seating. Also to pick up food for already paid for To Go items, you have to wait in the same long line with the people who want to place food orders to go or to dine in, which is ridiculous. I had to wait in the store in the long line for already paid for food for 25 minutes and the staff were rude to me about how I have to wait in line with everyone else even with people who still haven't decided what they want to order until they get to the people at checkout. I have enjoyed all of the pizzas I've tried, but my favorite at this moment is their white pie with spinach and pepperoni. You need to try this pie. Like ASAP! The garlic knots hard a crisp crust to them but were a little on the chewy side and the marinara that accompanied was great. Home Slice was recommended by a local so we decided to try it out. My husband "wasn't in the mood for pizza," but when we walked in he quickly changed his mind. They had two slice specials today-a white pizza and the other with meatballs and bell peppers. We each got a slice of the latter and shared a small Greek salad. The Greek salad was good, but could have used more Kalamata olives and feta (just my personal preference). The slices came out next and looked delicious. The dough was thin and crispy which is just how we like it and have a hard time getting it cooked that way when we go out. The slices took up the entire paper plate they were served on and we enjoyed every bite. My husband even ordered a second slice. I may or may not have had a few bites of his second slice. I wish I would've gotten our server's name because she was fantastic. She was efficient, knowledgeable, friendly, and witty. Parking can be tight but we lucked out and a spot opened for us. We walked it at 1 on a Saturday and it was wall to wall people with two seats at the bar. It was meant to be. This was my first visit to this North Austin location. The parking was a little tough, just one entrance/exit but it's certainly easier than the original SoCo location. This one is located in a beautiful old house with lots of dark gorgeous wood and they have of course added their artistic hippy touch to the place so it's Austin-cool as one would expect. The Servers were hustling yet friendly and attentive. A lovely young lady who was not our server kept my Tea glass full, everytime she passed by I got a smile and a full glass. Our waiter was in training and being shadowed by a young lady. He did a fantastic job. We each started with the personal Antipasto Chef Salads. We then shared an Eggplant Parmesan Sub and finally an 18" Cheese Pizza, which is the barometer of any Pizzeria. I'm Brooklyn born and discriminating about Pizza like little else. Does their plain Cheese Pie stand on it's own? Yes, this one is outstanding and Home Slice is in my opinion the best NY Style Pizza in the City of Austin. I visited Austin this weekend with some friends. We were recommended this spot for best pizza ever. Off the bat, my expectations were so high. When we arrived and told that the wait time was 45 mins, my expectations increased ever more! Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed. There was either rosemary or oregano in the sauce and that completely ruined it for me. In my opinion, pizza should be simple; marinara sauce and cheese. As soon as you add all these seasonings, the flavor is skewed. I was in the minority of course; my friends loved the pizza. We got a variety of flavors and salads. Cathrine insisted I take the leftovers and enjoy my night without cause or consequence from what happened. I tried to insist someone take and enjoy my meal. We love coming back here and enjoying this neighborhood gem. The restaurant is gorgeous, with fancy art and Italian decor but not overwhelming. You don't have to go inside because there is a separate ordering window by the entrance. The seats were comfortable inside, but we would want to try the outdoor patio seats someday. The garlic knots here do not take too long to get and are a great choice for an appetizer. Coming from the Windy City, it's been a bit problematic to find great pizza in Austin. Home Slice is the best I've sampled so far. Home Slice features a pizza thats more of what I'd consider a New York-style pie, a thin crust that's sort of droopy and lends itself to folding and eating. That really isn't to my taste but I'll admit that it is well done with a decently crispy texture and a bit doughy and slightly chewy. We ordered carry-out and selected the #1 Margherita and the #5 mushroom and pepperoni pizzas. Both came laden with quality toppings ensconced in a mildly-spiced yet flavorful tomato sauce. The antipasto plate included several different meats, cheeses and peppers that worked well together and complimented the pizza. Home Slice also included several of their garlic knots that are buttery, soft and delivered a snappy punch of my favorite garden bulb. The restaurant itself was hopping on an early Friday evening and it looked like a great place for a casual dinner. I'd love to come back on a less busy night (so that I can find parking) to explore some of the other items on the menu as well as the long list of tempting adult beverages. Recommended. read more
