*COVID review* Had lunch here this past Saturday for $35/person after an event at Citi Field. I was pretty stoked to hear that they have all-day dinner (aka short rib during lunch) because many AYCE KBBQ spots don't offer short rib during lunch hours...and short rib is the best part! Instead of going up to the buffet counter and grabbing your own meat and sides, the food is covered by a clear plastic barrier and there's a server who stands behind the counter and puts the food on a plate for you. One person is allowed to go up to the buffet counter at a time. Flavor wise, love the marinade on the boneless short rib. We pretty much filled up on it! But we also enjoyed the pork belly, beef bulgogi, veggies, japchae, and seaweed salad. We tried the sushi too, but it was nothing to write home about. They have vanilla and chocolate ice cream for dessert too, which some people on my table enjoyed at the end of their meal. I really like the KBBQ grill. The temperature setting is perfect and you don't have to wait too long for the meat/veggies to cook. Picnic garden is a great AYCE kbbq place. I think they have a wide variety of food to choose from. I LOVED their spicy squid. I like the buffet style for AYCE because sometimes ordering with the waiters is difficult at other places. The price for each person was $41 per person without tip and tax on a Saturday night. Quick update from a recent visit: For a party of 2, beware...the hostess is pretty rude to small groups and will prioritize bigger groups ahead of you, no matter how long you wait. We were there waiting from 8:10pm and did not see the hostess come to take down names for anyone until 8:30pm. She told us then to come back at 9pm and when I asked her again, she said 9:30 instead. I called a few other AYCE places and they were all full and also said it would be a 1-1.5 hr wait so we decided to just stay. Not many parties came after 8:30pm and even when there were empty tables, she wouldn't seat us. She came out to the waiting area to look if there were any others waiting and even checked OUTSIDE the restaurant. She waited another 5 minutes until she gave us an empty table. There are a few other reviews that describe the same situation so take it from all of us - come after 9pm or 9:30pm if you're a group of 2... Really shocked by how much I loved this place! It was my first time having Korean bbq as well as my husbands first time. The food selection is extensive! So many different things to choose from to cook! It was a party of four for us. Obviously when choosing what to cook everything is raw, however everything was clean cut and easy to select. We had the beef, pork, spicy chicken and lamb. All of the meats cooked well and everything was seasoned perfectly before putting it on the grill. Also the salad bar & the food options that are already cooked was great too. Everything here is buffet style and you can't beat that especially if you're a group of two or more (come here hungry). The staff is attentive and changes the grill frequently especially when you're cooking new meat. Parking was quite challenging, that's the only downside. Really cool spot - I mean who doesn't love all you can eat BBQ??!!? There's usually a wait and it's worth waiting for a table. I love that you can cook your meat as rare or well done as you like. There are a TON of different chicken, beef, lamb and pork options. I'd advise to try a little of everything on your first run, then go back in for the kill LOL. They also have a bunch of pre-made options - dumplings, wings and a few other items but the real star of the show is the meat! Then they start to prioritize whoever they see fit - this is the part that confuses me. They need to come up with a more organized system for their lines. $40 per adult for dinner service now. I come maybe twice a year and I'm still happy with the dining experience. The all you could eat and DIY meats buffet spread is still very enjoyable. I come primarily for the LA kalbi short rib. It's not the highest quality but it's still so good. It's a little too overly marinated in their house sauce. Wee bit too sweet but I still can't say no to short rib when it's AYCE. I skip bulgogi entirely, the pork jowls are pretty good here. Sweet, juicy and tender. The Korean style fried chicken here is still pretty dynamite on the low. We came on a busy night and a lot of the dishes towards the back of the buffet were constantly wiped out, the fries, fried rice, seafood pancake, etc. Ice cream flavors that night were mostly just plain vanilla. Service is same as usual. If you like your Korean bbq with lettuce, make sure to request for it. I wish they would change their tables a bit. Every time going in and out of our seats, I easily banged my knee into the leg of table a few times throughout the night. My knees are all bruised up from it and it happens every time we come to picnic garden too. Verdict - competition seems to be brewing in the neighborhood. I'm pretty sure almost everyone knows about Picnic Garden when they hear AYCE KBBQ. Since moving to another location, they expanded their restaurant and also changed their menu items. Their prices rose quite a bit as well, but it's expected. The concept is still the same as the old location: buffet style. So, grab a plate and serve yourself the meat you want to grill. They have a variety of meat options to pick from. From gizzards to squids, beef ribs, and briskets, the options are endless. They also have steamed eggs on their menu along with cheese and corn. As for their hot food option, it differs on a daily basis. During the many times I visited, I never saw crawfish on the menu but on my most recent visit, they had it. One consistent thing that stays the same is the miso soup, abalone porridge, seaweed soup, and rice. The quality of the meat isn't the best and isn't the absolute worst either. I would advise you to make sure that you choose the meat well since you are the one picking it. For example, when I went to get the beef short ribs, some of the pieces I have seen were just all fat and it was not edible. The briskets varied in quality and the pan was empty a lot of the times that I have gone. It doesn't help that people linger around the meat to be refilled and grab the whole thing once it's refilled. Since it's basically a Grill-It-Yourself restaurant, the servers will come to your table for the following reasons: cut your meat to smaller pieces, change the grill, and clear the plates. They rarely flip the meat for you so don't expect them to do so on your visit. After finishing your meal, feel free to get the ice cream inside the freezer chest near the front of the restaurant! You would think that with a new location and new equipments they would have a better ventilation system. The answer is NOPE. My belongings still smelled like bbq every time I left his place and my dog had the greatest time smelling my clothes. Parking is very difficult to find as you will find yourself circling around multiple times before you find a spot during rush hour. If you can, just take the public transportation. There are many locations in Flushing and Bayside that serves AYCE Korean BBQ and this is one of the many choices you have to choose from. This place is good if you want other hot foods like corn, fishcake, chicken wings, porridge, and more in addition to grilling your own meat. If you're only focused on the meat and don't mind NOT having kalbi, you may be better off at other nearby KBBQ locations. read more

Picnic garden is one of those spots that you frequent with a group of friends in hopes of satisfying KBBQ cravings without having to pay an arm and a leg. Dinner is now $37pp on Mon - Thurs, and $39pp on Fridays & weekends. Vaccine cards are checked at the door! As an AYCE spot, you know you're definitely not getting the best quality meat, so I would strongly advise that you cook everything well done here. The turnover rates for the kalbi are pretty fast, so I'm not super concerned about the beef, but the seafood and pork tend to sit out longer. In terms of variety, there's a fair selection of meats, cooked foods, and cold apps/banchan. Towards the back, they have 3 daily soups and rice. The soups are actually pretty good here! Free ice cream is available in the cooler to end off your dinner with some dessert. Drinks aren't included in the AYCE price - soju is $10/bottle. Don't expect super friendly service. It's usually packed and the servers are busy running around. They're quick to change out grills and cut your meats, but I wouldn't expect much beyond that. One last note - don't dress super fancy. Your clothes will inevitably reek of KBBQ after dinner due to poor ventilation. We came here on a Friday night around 9pm and only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. Once we were seated, we began our feast for the night! The food was incredible, and I particularly enjoyed that since this was ACYE, we were able to get the exact portion of meat we wanted (ex: two slices of pork belly rather than a whole plate as it's served in other places) because then we wouldn't need to pay extra for food wasted. The buffet bar with the meats, sauce, rice, and prepared hot foods was continuously stocked throughout the night. The prepared hot food bar had rotating items like two types of chicken wings, bak Choy, scallion pancakes, dumplings, rice, and different types of soup. The meat section had a bunch of different marinated meats, both spicy and non spicy. Our favorites were the marinated kalbi beef short ribs of course! Some nights you are assisted well, the others you wait an hour and a half for a table for two and the hostess makes you feel like your party is not enough to dine there at that time. While you wait, feel free to glance over the other tables such as this one which was left unattended and unclean for an hour while parties ranging from 2 to 4 to 6 to 8 are standing still while the place could be making money. They have no idea how to run tables. I'd give this place four stars if this wasn't the case. Update: after an additional hour and 30 minutes, the table was not clean. They refused to sit a party of two and left a table completely vacant the whole time. When asked if I could sit at the table, the waitress laughed, got another woman to come who was also rude and refusing to give service. When she was told to clean the table in the picture below she brushed us off. I will certainly be reporting this to the department of health for allowing others cooking their food at a traditional kbbq place next to a table growing its own eco system so they can only let parties of 4 or 5 or more eat over a party of two. Finally got to visit the new location. Finally. The old location was the original AYCE korean bbq. Others started popping up, but PG was still the best. Prices went up, service went down, but PG was STILL the go to AYCE KBBQ restaurant. So they're either really good after all, or the other places just can't get it right. And now after having been to all the nearby flushing/bayside AYCE KBBQs, the new location is still that...the best! Restaurant is clean and big and equipped against covid and we were also covid vax "carded". Service was great. We did go on a weekday during off peak hours though and the place was only 1/3 -1/2 full. Everything was always refilled quickly and they routinely tended to our table. Grills were changed frequently. (I still dislike the large gaps in these classic grills - so easy for food to fall through). Picnic garden still has THE MOST variety of offerings and a mix of hot and raw. You cannot compare ayce to regular kbbq so people need to just stop doing that. If you compare this to other ayce places, the flavors are great, the selection is unbeatable, and really the prices are pretty reasonable. Looking forward to going again with the entire family gang. I've been coming here often as a place to go when I crave Korean bbq. Obviously not the best place to go for the most amazing meat but it's a place where we can eat to our hearts content. I've came several times and the food was always good and the service as well. But yesterday I came and I was unexpectedly shocked by this. Our basket of lettuce contains a large bug/fly in between one of the veggies. Its one thing to find hair but to find a bug bigger than my pinky nail. It was utterly disgusting.
