Huge improvement from the last time I went here a couple years ago. I went today and the 3 Korean ladies were quick and nice and constantly cutting my meat and next to me. The food also tasted better and there seemed to be more variety as well. Price did increase though , I remember it was a lot cheaper but it's understandable as everything went up not just here. But I think 50 per person is way too high for the food here after tips. Be sure not to put too much food on your plate though as I unexpectedly got full after a couple plates of meat quicker than I thought I would (a few of the meats didn't fit my taste) , luckily I finished it all but there is a fee if you don't finish most of your food. Giving out 1star but highly recommend everyone to go so you may experience the worst service in NYC. People always say (a good restaurant makes you feel like home) , but this place will definitely makes you feel how you are going to put down your money asap and get kicked out by them. At the moment i walked in, i expected a greetings like (welcome/good evening/how many? ...etc.) Unfortunately, the first sentence from the front desk was (you only have 90minites for dining, is it ok?) It is a Wednesday night, not busy at all. The place was about 50% occupied, but they got the point. It's ok, acceptable for me. The host guided us to our table, we started to eat. Our server did her job, cutting the meet, changing the grill plate for us but never say a word. Even i found out the lettuce are dry without washing and had insects on it, and put it right on the table next to my plate. She didn't ask or care about anything. After an hour (60-65minutes) When we were just thinking about can we actually communicate with her in English. Finally the first sentence she spoke to us "If you still want some more meats better get it now" We answered "it's all right" and grill heater got shut off. 5-10minutes later (80minutes in total now). The front desk came again and gave us the bill. It's fine because it's about the time and we were finishing our last dish, then get a icecream/fruit salad and pay for the bill with a good tips. We were still having a good time and didn't want to ruin the mood. Only ONE minute after. The front desk came again and said, (Sorry. you have to pay now.) I was like...huh? my last is still eating and i still didn't get a chance to get my icecream yet. At the moment we were confused about what's going on, there are still many empty tables there and we didn't pass 90 minutes yet. Here She came again and said " You have to pay now or it will be extra charge!" This action causes me really upset and i checked on the bill. We entered at 7:08PM and they kicked us out before 8:30pm when the place is 50% occupied. The front desk explained to me they have to make sure to notice customers 5minutes earlier. Well, i never seen a place has to be so straight to the 90mins time limits and start to kick customers out 10mins before. I was being asked to pay for 3TIMES and warned for extra charge. The funny thing is , at the moment i put down money i realized i still have 8mins left. This place is a joke. I'm cancelling my gathering there on next month and not going back for sure. The price per person is now $40, basically for self-serve AYCE meats that have been deliciously marinated Korean-style. In the limited seafood department are mussels, shrimp and squid. The red meat and poultry depts are a bit more vast, including bulgogi, short ribs, kalbi, chicken wings, etc. There really isn't much else there, besides raw meat. Cooked food selections were soup, fries, fried chicken, jap chae and fried rice, but nothing else that stood out to me. An area I see improvement in is the bbq tray that we self-service and cook our meats on. That tray is so small, it barely fits much meat. Even worse, a staff comes by to switch it off very frequently, which can be disruptive. They also need to add more cooked food selections and maybe another ice cream flavor just so everyone isn't stuck with vanilla lol read more

I love this restaurant! My favorite cut of meat at K-BBQ is kalbi (marinated beef ribs) and Picnic Garden does it right! The self-serve buffet is loaded with fresh side items including an array of Korean classics and banchan. The service is hit or miss but nothing to complain about overall. The servers come by to cut the meat during the barbecue process. Besides Kalbi, this place offers all of the traditional Korean sliced meats and proteins. Picnic garden is a great AYCE kbbq place. I think they have a wide variety of food to choose from. I LOVED their spicy squid. I like the buffet style for AYCE because sometimes ordering with the waiters is difficult at other places. The price for each person was $41 per person without tip and tax on a Saturday night. Quick update from a recent visit: For a party of 2, beware...the hostess is pretty rude to small groups and will prioritize bigger groups ahead of you, no matter how long you wait. We were there waiting from 8:10pm and did not see the hostess come to take down names for anyone until 8:30pm. She told us then to come back at 9pm and when I asked her again, she said 9:30 instead. I called a few other AYCE places and they were all full and also said it would be a 1-1.5 hr wait so we decided to just stay. Not many parties came after 8:30pm and even when there were empty tables, she wouldn't seat us. She came out to the waiting area to look if there were any others waiting and even checked OUTSIDE the restaurant. She waited another 5 minutes until she gave us an empty table. There are a few other reviews that describe the same situation so take it from all of us - come after 9pm or 9:30pm if you're a group of 2... Pros: seems to have more meat selection in the recent years. always go for the marinated short ribs (the ones with 3 bones) and the waiter will come and cut the meat for you when you put it on the grill. - Beef brisket is quick and great too. - pork jowl takes forever to cook and it is quite chewy...not the same as what i've gotten at other restaurants so I won't get it again - our waiter, Paul, was so hardworking and busy. Really shocked by how much I loved this place! It was my first time having Korean bbq as well as my husbands first time. The food selection is extensive! So many different things to choose from to cook! It was a party of four for us. Obviously when choosing what to cook everything is raw, however everything was clean cut and easy to select. We had the beef, pork, spicy chicken and lamb. All of the meats cooked well and everything was seasoned perfectly before putting it on the grill. Also the salad bar & the food options that are already cooked was great too. Everything here is buffet style and you can't beat that especially if you're a group of two or more (come here hungry). The staff is attentive and changes the grill frequently especially when you're cooking new meat. Parking was quite challenging, that's the only downside. There are a TON of different chicken, beef, lamb and pork options. I'd advise to try a little of everything on your first run, then go back in for the kill LOL. They also have a bunch of pre-made options - dumplings, wings and a few other items but the real star of the show is the meat! Food is still good - love the galbi and squid every time. The service is just so terrible. They always prioritize bigger groups. Understandable. Then they start to prioritize whoever they see fit - this is the part that confuses me. They need to come up with a more organized system for their lines. And this time we don't have that one good waiter to save our day. The blonde lady always came to cut our food, with a speed so fast that the food starts flying out onto our table. She doesn't even bother picking up the stuff she dropped. She also tries her best to rush us, by shoveling whatever we have left on our table into our grill, regardless of what we have left there. The food gets grilled unevenly, raw food is mixed with cooked food, and flavors are all mixed up. I'm always in shock after she "serves" us, and it happened both times we visited. Will I come again? I try to stick to healthy sweets as a dessert, I.e., fruits, BUT... after all those meats, I was craving something more like a guilty pleasure haha. I'm pretty sure almost everyone knows about Picnic Garden when they hear AYCE KBBQ. Since moving to another location, they expanded their restaurant and also changed their menu items. Their prices rose quite a bit as well, but it's expected. The concept is still the same as the old location: buffet style. So, grab a plate and serve yourself the meat you want to grill. They have a variety of meat options to pick from. From gizzards to squids, beef ribs, and briskets, the options are endless. They also have steamed eggs on their menu along with cheese and corn. As for their hot food option, it differs on a daily basis. During the many times I visited, I never saw crawfish on the menu but on my most recent visit, they had it. One consistent thing that stays the same is the miso soup, abalone porridge, seaweed soup, and rice. The quality of the meat isn't the best and isn't the absolute worst either. I would advise you to make sure that you choose the meat well since you are the one picking it. For example, when I went to get the beef short ribs, some of the pieces I have seen were just all fat and it was not edible. The briskets varied in quality and the pan was empty a lot of the times that I have gone. It doesn't help that people linger around the meat to be refilled and grab the whole thing once it's refilled. Since it's basically a Grill-It-Yourself restaurant, the servers will come to your table for the following reasons: cut your meat to smaller pieces, change the grill, and clear the plates. They rarely flip the meat for you so don't expect them to do so on your visit. After finishing your meal, feel free to get the ice cream inside the freezer chest near the front of the restaurant! You would think that with a new location and new equipments they would have a better ventilation system. The answer is NOPE. My belongings still smelled like bbq every time I left his place and my dog had the greatest time smelling my clothes. Parking is very difficult to find as you will find yourself circling around multiple times before you find a spot during rush hour. If you can, just take the public transportation. There are many locations in Flushing and Bayside that serves AYCE Korean BBQ and this is one of the many choices you have to choose from. This place is good if you want other hot foods like corn, fishcake, chicken wings, porridge, and more in addition to grilling your own meat. If you're only focused on the meat and don't mind NOT having kalbi, you may be better off at other nearby KBBQ locations. read more

As an AYCE spot, you know you're definitely not getting the best quality meat, so I would strongly advise that you cook everything well done here. The turnover rates for the kalbi are pretty fast, so I'm not super concerned about the beef, but the seafood and pork tend to sit out longer. In terms of variety, there's a fair selection of meats, cooked foods, and cold apps/banchan. Towards the back, they have 3 daily soups and rice. The soups are actually pretty good here! Free ice cream is available in the cooler to end off your dinner with some dessert. Drinks aren't included in the AYCE price - soju is $10/bottle. Don't expect super friendly service. It's usually packed and the servers are busy running around. They're quick to change out grills and cut your meats, but I wouldn't expect much beyond that. One last note - don't dress super fancy. Your clothes will inevitably reek of KBBQ after dinner due to poor ventilation. We came here on a Friday night around 9pm and only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. Once we were seated, we began our feast for the night! The food was incredible, and I particularly enjoyed that since this was ACYE, we were able to get the exact portion of meat we wanted (ex: two slices of pork belly rather than a whole plate as it's served in other places) because then we wouldn't need to pay extra for food wasted. The buffet bar with the meats, sauce, rice, and prepared hot foods was continuously stocked throughout the night. The prepared hot food bar had rotating items like two types of chicken wings, bak Choy, scallion pancakes, dumplings, rice, and different types of soup. The meat section had a bunch of different marinated meats, both spicy and non spicy. Our favorites were the marinated kalbi beef short ribs of course! They also had interesting items like spicy pork skin which was very crunchy when cooked. To top it off, we got free ice creams at the end! The place has mediocre food and is a fun restaurant for the price. The service is a Rollercoaster. Some nights you are assisted well, the others you wait an hour and a half for a table for two and the hostess makes you feel like your party is not enough to dine there at that time. While you wait, feel free to glance over the other tables such as this one which was left unattended and unclean for an hour while parties ranging from 2 to 4 to 6 to 8 are standing still while the place could be making money. They have no idea how to run tables. I'd give this place four stars if this wasn't the case. Update: after an additional hour and 30 minutes, the table was not clean. They refused to sit a party of two and left a table completely vacant the whole time. When asked if I could sit at the table, the waitress laughed, got another woman to come who was also rude and refusing to give service. When she was told to clean the table in the picture below she brushed us off. I will certainly be reporting this to the department of health for allowing others cooking their food at a traditional kbbq place next to a table growing its own eco system so they can only let parties of 4 or 5 or more eat over a party of two. Some are marinated and some are not but there are sauces on the sides. You have to choose what you want by getting it yourself. They do help you cook and cut. The staff are always attentive. The dessert is ice cream but only on weekends. As of my review the price for dinner is $37 per person Monday-Thursday. I went on a Tuesday and wasn't packed for dinner. Finally got to visit the new location. Finally. The old location was the original AYCE korean bbq. Others started popping up, but PG was still the best. Prices went up, service went down, but PG was STILL the go to AYCE KBBQ restaurant. So they're either really good after all, or the other places just can't get it right. And now after having been to all the nearby flushing/bayside AYCE KBBQs, the new location is still that...the best! Restaurant is clean and big and equipped against covid and we were also covid vax "carded". Service was great. We did go on a weekday during off peak hours though and the place was only 1/3 -1/2 full. Everything was always refilled quickly and they routinely tended to our table. Grills were changed frequently. (I still dislike the large gaps in these classic grills - so easy for food to fall through). Picnic garden still has THE MOST variety of offerings and a mix of hot and raw. You cannot compare ayce to regular kbbq so people need to just stop doing that. If you compare this to other ayce places, the flavors are great, the selection is unbeatable, and really the prices are pretty reasonable. Looking forward to going again with the entire family gang. A really good dining experience for Korean BBQ in Flushing! Plenty of meat, veggies, sides, and sauce. The staff is very attentive too, changing out the grill every 15 minutes or so. We also got a great supply of lettuce to wrap the meat in. However, I wish they had a larger selection of beef. They had short rib, bulgogi, flank, and brisket, but what would have made the pricing more worth it is if they had a nicer cut of steak. Perhaps this was because of Covid, but the pork jowl was really thick and had a funny odor to it. Never seen this at other places. I come primarily for the LA kalbi short rib. It's not the highest quality but it's still so good. It's a little too overly marinated in their house sauce. Wee bit too sweet but I still can't say no to short rib when it's AYCE. I skip bulgogi entirely, the pork jowls are pretty good here. Sweet, juicy and tender. The Korean style fried chicken here is still pretty dynamite on the low. We came on a busy night and a lot of the dishes towards the back of the buffet were constantly wiped out, the fries, fried rice, seafood pancake, etc. Ice cream flavors that night were mostly just plain vanilla. Service is same as usual. If you like your Korean bbq with lettuce, make sure to request for it. I wish they would change their tables a bit. Every time going in and out of our seats, I easily banged my knee into the leg of table a few times throughout the night. My knees are all bruised up from it and it happens every time we come to picnic garden too. Verdict - competition seems to be brewing in the neighborhood. We wanted always to try this place long before and finally got the chance to visit, we went here last Friday for dinner not much of people that time (around 6 PM) and by the way they're checking the proof of vaccine. Food wise I would say its okay, they have plenty of choices for pork and chicken but not much for the beef options but everything taste good the only thing I noticed that I'm not really fan of is the buffet food that is already cooked on the side looks like its been there for a while but anyways we're here for the bbq. I've been coming here often as a place to go when I crave Korean bbq. Obviously not the best place to go for the most amazing meat but it's a place where we can eat to our hearts content. I've came several times and the food was always good and the service as well. But yesterday I came and I was unexpectedly shocked by this. Our basket of lettuce contains a large bug/fly in between one of the veggies. Its one thing to find hair but to find a bug bigger than my pinky nail. It was utterly disgusting. Oh, Korean BBQ, I've missed you. Korean BBQ is one of those meals that brings me so much joy during the meal and makes me question what I've just done after the meal. So much food! A friend and I stopped by for dinner on a Saturday around 5pm. We thought we do an early dinner before the actual dinner crowd gets there. Apparently, a lot of other people had the same thought process. Luckily, there were still tables available so we didn't have to wait. By the time it was 7pm or so, there was definitely a wait time! We did the All You Can Eat Buffet (~$35: weekend dinner adult price). The time limit per party is 1.5 hours. Once we were situated at our table, we helped ourselves to the buffet to choose all our meats and toppings. There was a huge selection, from marinated meats to unmarinated meats, to shrimp, to fried chicken, to vegetables, and even some surprises like seaweed salad, cheese corn, and egg! You also can't forget that side of rice! With the grill constantly in use, the workers come around pretty often to rotate grills to avoid too much smoke. Everything was pretty tasty and fresh. My only complaint was the lack of sauces. They did have a sauce section but their cups are so small that you would either have to get a bunch of small cups which is wasteful or keep going back and forth which is unnecessary especially during pandemic times. It would be better if they gave a larger bowl for sauces to avoid multiple trips. After that, we helped ourselves to dessert which is literally just frozen ice cream in a cup. There were 3 flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and a mix of both. I got the mix of both. It was nothing special but was a sweet way to end the meal. Picnic Garden is one of the most popular spots for KBBQ in Flushing. Although I've had better KBBQ, I'm glad I got to try it! read more
