Oh, Korean BBQ, I've missed you. Korean BBQ is one of those meals that brings me so much joy during the meal and makes me question what I've just done after the meal. So much food! A friend and I stopped by for dinner on a Saturday around 5pm. We thought we do an early dinner before the actual dinner crowd gets there. Apparently, a lot of other people had the same thought process. Luckily, there were still tables available so we didn't have to wait. By the time it was 7pm or so, there was definitely a wait time! We did the All You Can Eat Buffet (~$35: weekend dinner adult price). The time limit per party is 1.5 hours. Once we were situated at our table, we helped ourselves to the buffet to choose all our meats and toppings. There was a huge selection, from marinated meats to unmarinated meats, to shrimp, to fried chicken, to vegetables, and even some surprises like seaweed salad, cheese corn, and egg! You also can't forget that side of rice! With the grill constantly in use, the workers come around pretty often to rotate grills to avoid too much smoke. Everything was pretty tasty and fresh. My only complaint was the lack of sauces. They did have a sauce section but their cups are so small that you would either have to get a bunch of small cups which is wasteful or keep going back and forth which is unnecessary especially during pandemic times. It would be better if they gave a larger bowl for sauces to avoid multiple trips. After that, we helped ourselves to dessert which is literally just frozen ice cream in a cup. There were 3 flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and a mix of both. I got the mix of both. It was nothing special but was a sweet way to end the meal. Picnic Garden is one of the most popular spots for KBBQ in Flushing. Although I've had better KBBQ, I'm glad I got to try it! read more

This was my first time at this new location and I am a fan!! The restaurant is so spacious and well organized. Ventilation is fantastic (but I still recommend bringing a plastic bag to store your clothes/coats so that you don't smell like bbq for days!). Service and hospitality was great! Food was mind blowingly plentiful and delicious! There is so much to pick from. My suggestion is to take a look at ALL the offerings before picking and choosing what you'd like to devour. You can't possible eat everything! Choose wisely! lol There are lots of delicious marinated raw meats and seafood to choose from; there are also lots of cooked food to choose from, which weren't bad! Of course, there are also soups, rice, salads, but again, choose wisely - you don't want to fill up on these items. Save room in your belly for the delicious meats! Becareful with their pricing . It was very unclear when I asked on a Monday the price for lunch. the waitress said 27 but she was not clear that if you touch any BEEF it turns into 37. The 27 is only for chicken and pork. I even asked her what is this sign that say " dinner only" over the short ribs and asked if I can eat it.. and she said yes.. (but she didn't mention that the price automatically becomes 37 instead of 27). Seriously, I would be much happier if you tell me straight up that it's 37 instead of playing this stupid game. customer will think you are trying to scam them. In general the place fairly clean, and the atmosphere was nice. in terms of the quality and taste of all the food it was decent. service was nice and helpful as well. The food always good but it can be a little pricey. We never have to wait for a table and the waitress/waiter always makes sure we're taken care of. The music and atmosphere is always great with their remixed versions today's and yesterday's music. If it wasn't for the bump in prices I would've been there twice a week but now I go there every 6 months. This is the most painful one star review I'll ever have to give. I've been going to picnic garden for over 20 years, and have probably spent tens of thousands of dollars here over the years. It's been a regular spot for my family and I while eating out, it's been a top choice when dining with friends... we've celebrated birthdays, graduations, and even chose picnic garden as the place to have a meal after my moms funeral with friends and family. The staff knows us, we've been good loyal customers for literally decades, from their humble beginnings at the old location to one of the first tables sat when they moved. I've even travelled to NJ to try their other location! Sometimes when the urge for KBBQ hits, you need to scratch that itch...last night around 7pm I wanted picnic garden so bad.... I decided to go alone, table for one. This is not something I'd normally do, but no one was around and I just wanted some quick bbq. I walk in, there was no wait, and the hostess asked me how many. I reply "just me". She replied with "It will be 70.00 then". I was taken back by her statement and gave a perplexed look... at that moment she turned her attention to a party of two that walked in behind me. I was immediately approached by a waitress that I've seen there countless times... I said to her "I was just told it will be 70.00 to eat alone", to which she replied "yes because it's dinner, come back after 10pm if you want regular price". I was caught off guard and replied to her "you know I've been coming here for so many years, that's really not right", she acknowledged my statement, and didn't say anything else.... I turned around and walked out. Here's the bigger issue... in the recent past, also on a Friday night, I did go alone, and was charged normal price. No single table surcharge. I've noticed over the last few years that the customer service has declined almost as much as the quality of the food. For example, the credit card machine mysteriously is "out of order" on a busy night in the recent past. Conveniently noted with a laminated printed sign that is hung on the door when you walk in. The LA Kalbi is always tough, and all bones that you need to dig through to look for one piece of fat. The menu items that disappear.... I can go on and on, but I kept going because it's an old standby that I've always loved supporting. Truth is, there are more and more AYCE Korean BBQs popping up in the area...ones like cast iron pot, where the meat quality is so much better. Take this review and do what you wish with it, as I know I am the minority in the situation since rarely do people go eat Korean bbq alone, myself included.... Just a testament to customer service dying, and customer loyalty being less and less appreciated during a time when businesses are struggling to stay alive. Take a few moments to sift through recent reviews, I am not alone in my thoughts of their price gouging, random pricing policies and general bad business practices like prioritizing larger parties, and ending lunch whenever they feel like it... just to make a quick buck. Came here with a couple of friends on a Saturday night and waited almost 90 minutes. However, I can see why it's so packed because it was totally worth the wait! There are so many variety of meats set up in a buffet like style where you're able to grab as much meat as you want to bring back to your table to bbq. Ranging from your typical beef to spicy beef to chicken gizzard and even hot plates! Of course, the hot plates are ready to eat (japchae, corn, eggplant, etc) but waiters will come by your table to help you cook your meats and chop them up if necessary. The waiters are quite accommodating as they came by several times to change our plates without us being asked and chop up our meat into pieces small enough to masticate with ease. There's a small $3 discount for each person (for a minimum of parties of 2) if you pay on cash. Our bill came to $40/pp for a party of 3. Love this place and would definitely come back. The new location has a obvious upgrade -- you don't walk out smelling of KBBQ anymore. The new grills and ventilation systems are great! But I still go there with clothes that I don't mind stinking up. Same setup as the previous location -- self-serve buffet style, which I prefer. I've heard about Picnic Garden a few times since moving to the City. I mentioned in a previous review that I rarely get KBBQ in New York because it's so expensive when compared to what I can get back home in LA. However, we were hungry and $27 a person for Weekend Lunch here didn't seem like a wallet breaker. After all, that's the cost of one order of meat, right? We went at around 2:00 PM on a Sunday. There were plenty of seats available though the hostess does tell you that last call for meat is 3:00 and you have to finish eating by 3:30 (as lunch ends and dinner starts). We didn't really think it to be too big of a deal so we agreed and got seated. What I do like about the buffet bar as opposed to ordering and having people serve it in an AYCE setting is that you can decide for yourself just how much of one thing you want. The worst is when you just want to try something but you end up with a huge plate of it that you don't want. As such, I did like this feature. However, my lack of stars on this review is really for how few meat varieties were available at lunch time. There was only one beef option, which was really upsetting. Normally, at KBBQ, I only eat beef, so to be limited to just having Kalbi was rather sad to me. I had really wanted some brisket, but alas, there was none to be found. The other cuts of meat were really random, including pork skin and gizzards and other parts that I wasn't interested in. At the end of the day, I don't really think I made the most of my money since I only had a plate of galbi (4 strips), some pork belly, and some squid. The cooked foods and banchan were good though. My sister was particularly fond of the mackerel and I loved the macaroni salad. Apparently, the white rice was cooked very well too and the porridge was tasty. They also had steamed eggs, but they never refilled the platter. I managed to get one of the last ones but was sad that it never came around again. The plates and bowls weren't super clean, but what can you really expect from a place like this? I would say that the service was quite nice. There was an older lady who was always hovering around our table, waiting to cut our meat pieces for us as soon as it was ready. She was really sweet and attentive, and I really appreciated how hard she was working. Other than that, there's not much that I would come back for. I was told that we would have 90 minutes to eat when we came there. Came here the other night for a late night snack with my friend. It's been at least two years since my last visit to Picnic Garden and I must say, this new location is very refreshing. The new interior looks clean and modern. I like the wide assortment of meats you can choose. They have everything from galbi, different cuts of beef, pork shoulder, chicken, lamb, sausages, and your choice of different innards like gizzard, intestines, etc. A few of the meats like galbi and lamb are soaking in their own prepared marinade. I thought the marinades themselves were too sweet and didn't really add much to the flavor of the meats. And the seasoning they provide for you on the side were only salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and something that smelled like paprika or cumin. Overall, the food was decent. Meats cooked rather quickly on our grill and with a little added seasoning, the meat tasted good. The service was good for the most part. The waitstaff could be more consistent if anything. The waitress who came to cut up our meat was in and out like a ninja..lol The male server said he would cook our meat for us, but he was gone for most of our stay, and I would rather cook the meat myself anyway. When it was time, they promptly switched out our dirty grill for a clean one. Picnic Garden is a solid Korean BBQ spot in Queens. They have consistently good quality meats, and for the price $33/person for weekday dinner, it's not bad. Too bad ice cream is limited to one cup per person at no additional cost (For lunch, I think it's $1/cup). My friend and I both left full and satisfied. I don't know if its just me or if the old Picnic Garden was a lot better. I felt the old place had a wider menu for cooked and raw food. I think most of my friends agreed the meats were marinated better at their old location. Pro: The ventilation system at this place is a lot better than the old restaurant. Even though we came out smelling like grilled meats, it wasn't nearly as bad as it was at the old place. This place is SO much bigger than the old place. I want to say its at least 3-4x bigger. However with that I must say the service is a bit slower and the waitress was working their butts off to try to get to every table. Definitely at the old one, someone was constantly walking to our table to help cut and flip our meat. At this place, we had to hunt down a busboy for tongs and water. There is also a huge freezer of ice cream when you're done with your meal. Con: The meats aren't' as tasty as I remembered at the last place. I'm sure its the same recipe but maybe their supplier has changed. There definitely is a smaller selection of everything. There is no more rice with beans, or watermelon, or sushi. I know Picnic Garden is one of the OG AYCE KBBQ places - it has seen a move to its current larger space due to its popularity (I never went to the original location). Despite only giving three stars I had a pretty good experience here, but the reality is that there is newer competition out there and I like their way of doing things better. PG is a bit more expensive than other AYCE KBBQ places I have been to, but for the extra money their buffet selection is more extensive adding cooked dishes and a little more variety. That is also another issue - it's a buffet. A buffet of raw meat that is sitting out, people are walking around with plates full of raw meat. Raw meat and its juices just all over the place. I'm just not the biggest fan of eating on the same table with raw meat (can I say raw meat one more time? probably). I like other places such as Cast Iron and O2 where the wait staff put the meat directly onto the grill. The galbi was the most popular item with the group I went with and myself - nicely marinated and delicious. The service was very attentive as well - clearing the table, changing the grill, cooking and cutting the meat. Overall I think you will have a good to great experience here, the food and variety is good for the money. I would even come back if friends wanted to eat here, but for the issues explained above and better options available elsewhere makes PG only A-OK in my book. read more

I do like how the meat is out on the table for the taking. They do have an assortment of meats from brisket, pork jowl to seafood and intestines. Don't forget to sauce before you sit. I do like the burners at the table, they are radiant heat units that heat up on both sides vs a center gas unit. I had never been to a kbbq place where it's essentially a buffet for AYCE (compared to the usual places where the servers bring out your meat). I like this way better so you don't have to wait on the servers to bring you more food. We all know how that goes when they forget your order for refills lol. I usually get the pork belly, bulgogi, and cha dol (brisket). All so sooo delicious! The brisket was almost always empty. It was THAT good haha. Maybe part of it being empty was because of me taking it all lol. The seating booth is interesting, but I like it. It's like a U-shape. It allows for you and your party to be closer together, I think. The grill could be bigger too. Maybe I'm just used to the bigger grills that we have here in California. But it is a good place to bring over family and friends and guests for the K - experience. I appreciate the waitress service - they tend to look out after the customers not paying much attention in what their cooking. The new ventilation system keeps me out for smelling like what I was cooking. There's an array of marinated meats and fresh seafood's served in a buffet style. Plenty of choices for side dishes. There is a buffet setup with raw meats that you grab and cook yourself at the table. Now back in the day I would just grab as much as I could fit on my plate immediately, and then run out of room for the good stuff, but this time I made sure to peruse all the offerings first so I can maximize price per lb. They had galbi, bulgogi, lamb, chicken, pork belly, gizzard, tendon, shrimp, salmon, clams, and a section for cooked food, rice and noodle soup. There was also beer on tap, which not a single person in the restaurant even touched. Every now and then, as I was grilling, a staff member would come by with scissors and violently cut up the meat into smaller pieces before running away. And then another person would come every 10 minutes to change the grill plate. There is also a busboy came by and took away my plate of (cooked) short ribs. After you get seated, you can go straight to the buffet section and grab plates to fill with either cooked foods like: fried shrimp, spicy crawfish, fried chicken and fried plantains (deliciously made here) or stuff to grill (uncooked). It's best to start by getting thinly sliced meats like thinly sliced bulgogi, thinly sliced steak, short ribs and chicken wings to start cooking at first to fill up the grill. If you start with heavy thick meats then you all will be sitting there a while waiting for them to cook. Grab extra plates to eat with since you don't want to mix plates with uncooked meats to eat with. Grab some uncooked seafood like squid/octopus, clams and shrimp as they cook very fast. Don't forget to go to the Sauce Bar where they have some amazing sauces to dip after you finish cooking your stuff. Fav dipping sauces: spicy Mayo and Barbecue (Korean). Both are amazing. While the stuff is cooking, you can start eating salad, Kimchi, and stuff from the ready cooked section. Somewhere more than halfway through your meal, we start cooking some of the heavier meats as they take a while to get ready. Don't forget to grab some Japchae (Korean glass noodle) as they make it really delicious here. We like to go on weeknights and all this amazing food is only $35 for adult each. It's more expensive in the weekends and often there is a wait in the weekends. Don't expect any good desserts though, but you already got your money's worth so don't bitch. Great value for all you can eat bbq with great selection on meats! I love how we were able to select what and how much we wanted from the buffet to grill. Buffet had an assortment of prepped meats and seafood. Also side dishes/appetizers like kimchi, japchae and fish cakes and fruits. I came with a party of 6 on a Saturday night, we ended up waiting 45mins for a table which is not bad! I would say this is 4.5 since we had to constantly ask them for water refills. Other than that service was good, dirty plates were constantly removed by staff and they helped with cutting meat too. The space is huge and can accommodate huge parties, also clean too. Definitely worth trekking to queens to do bbq here! Oh yah your clothes do end up smelling like bbq but that's okay. You can either wash or air out the smell. read more
