Sole Dore'
Richard H.

Tnis might be a "special occasion" place, but I can't help but show up here no matter the occasion, because the service and food are top notch. The calamari crema and sole doré are my standard order. They are among the best tjlgings in all of Tucson, and thats what makes Piazza Gavi a destination, not just a special occasion place.

We have been visiting Gavi's since they made food on Broadway and Pantano many many years ago. Their menu is incredible and so much to choose from. They have a nice bar situated in the center back wall. The have an outdoor area as well but this time we ate inside. I made a reservation via OpenTable to celebrate my husbands birthday. I was surprised how busy they were this time in August on a Friday! Service was excellent, they had many specials not mentioned in their large menu, and server was prompt of providing our drinks, bread and food. Overall and excellent evening! Oh yes the food...scrumptious in every bite! Just delicious and the serving sizes are plenty!! Most have a portion to take home the next day. I had the special stuffed salmon, it was incredible and the side of vegetables were beautifully seasoned and fresh! Truly a gem in Tucson!

Had date night here, a couple weeks back.. and will definitely be back! I made a reservation shortly before arriving and was able to sit within minutes upon arriving on a Friday night around 7PM. It was pretty busy, but still had room for more. It's very moody inside with darker more intimate lighting. Walking up, you see a very well beautiful covered patio to dine on. Inside their tables as well as boot for seating. The menu is large, including pastas, sandwiches, yummy looking salads, pizzas., etc. So there's a lot to choose from. I love that one choosing a pasta, you can also choose the noodle you want in it. I chose a Bolognese ($25) dish upon the service suggestion, and it was good, but I definitely chose the wrong noodle to go with it.. so if you're unsure, it's probably a good idea to ask the server which noodle would go best. We ordered the antipasto appetizer ($23) as well as the Salmon Carpaccio ($23). Both were still plentiful and definitely worth ordering again! They also serve free bread, which, if you ask me as a waste of food since it's served with cold bread and cold butter.. I don't understand my restaurants do this because how are we supposed to wipe this cold hard butter on this hard bread? Anyway, my husband ordered a lobster ravioli ($33), and though he felt it was salty I thought it was good. I definitely want to go back and try more of their menu !

Chicken Formaggio with side of veggies

We came here to celebrate a retirement. I'd called ahead a few days and they basically had to squeeze us in, as they were booked for that evening. They found a table for us indoors, in an area that was a little secluded from the main part. The only negative was that it was pretty noisy indoors, but it beat sitting on the patio on a warm night. We ordered the fried calamari, which was ok. (We got spoiled by the calamari we could get everywhere in Australia, so nothing here is quite as yummy!) Everyone enjoyed their meals, and we all got huge portions. We'll have another meal or two to enjoy another time. I had a dinner salad, which was good. For my meal, I ordered the Chicken Formaggio. It was two big pieces of tender chicken, stuffed with spinach and cheese, with shrimp and artichokes on top. It was all covered with a nice red sauce. It was supposed to come with a side of pasta, but they were happy to sub some mixed veggies for me. We even got a free bowl of ice cream for the retiree! Our waiter, Chris, was great. He got all our orders correct without even writing any of them down. We were able to relax and enjoy our evening. We also got some drinks and the mozzarella marinara during their happy hour before dinner. $3 off appetizers, wine and other drinks.

Pumpkin Mascarpone in Spicy Crema

Went here with some friends on a packed Thursday night, the ambiance was wonderful and the service was quick once we were seated! I got the pumpkin ravioli in spicy crema and have been dreaming about it since- it seems like it's a seasonal special so everyone needs to GO THERE RIGHT NOW and try it!! I truly have never experienced anything like it and all my friends agreed we will be going back very soon and each of us is getting this amazing ravioli!

The food was incredible! We wanted to eat light, so we ordered to share a dish they are renowned for, Lomo Soltado, & Douglas, who was behind the bar & also waiting done tables on this extremely busy night, suggested adding shrimp to the beef, and it was phenomenal! We asked for a recommendation for another shareable & he highly recommended the Causa Rellena de Camaron--delicious! Sort of a whipped potato stuffed with beef then fried. Very fun! We loved the Pisco Sours, and husband enjoyed a glass of wine with the meal. They had live music outside, which was why we picked the bar, but to our delight it was beautiful soft Peruvian traditional music, which we really enjoyed. Very friendly attentive staff, cute inside & great food! We thought they didn't take reservations, but apparently they do--you may have to call them on the phone though. We didn't see them on open Table or Resy.

We started with the Chica Mirada to drink which I loved since it wasn't too sweet. I would never have guessed it was made with corn. For entrees we had the Seco de Carne and Lomo Saltado. Both dishes were very flavorful and the beef was so tender. I enjoyed the light but flavorful sauces on both dishes. The prices are extremely high for the small portion sizes. The service was excellent. The whole Diners, Drive Ins and Dive advertising is a little obnoxious. It's on the front of the menu, on a huge sign on the window, and the episode the restaurant was on plays over and over on one of the TVs. You should be known for having amazing food and service, not for being on a silly tv show. (Has anyone ever heard Guy say something tasted bad in a single episode? I haven't.)

I may have never tasted anything more delicious. I took home more than enough for a fabulous lunch. The hub wasn't as thrilled. He's not that much of a seafood guy, enjoying ribs or steak previously, but he decided on the fish and chips for this outing. He's used to cod for battered fish and noted that hoki didn't hold together well, breaking into small pieces, some with breading and some without. The fish and the coating were under seasoned and bland. He wasn't happy with the fries, either. He expected regular fries as our server specified, but received shoestrings, some of which were overly crisp but the ones under the fish were soggy. He did praise the cole slaw. Although neither of us could finish our meal, we did order dessert. We shared the pecan caramel cheesecake and it was ridiculously delicious: smooth, tangy, and not too sweet. Just perfect. We managed to finish it and mentioned to the manager/owner? how good it was. He laughed and said no judging if we licked the plate. The ambiance of the dining room is elegance, almost vintage, and feels special. The restaurant was very busy, which I am thrilled to see, but quite noisy. We were so lucky to grab a parking space in the small front lot, because I have limited mobility. I would love a rail on either side of the small ramp because it is a little steep.

We made a reservation well in advance and even then there were limited time options. The atmosphere of the restaurant is slightly upscale while still being cozy. I love all the plants! Our server was very knowledgeable and was able to give several recommendations. We ordered the grilled and chilled beets and the steak skewers for appetizers. The beets and everything that came with them was very fresh! I love anything with pickled onions. The steak appetizer was excellent and my dad could not stop talking about them. Next, I ordered the swordfish special and my dad got the pork chop. Everything was cooked to perfection and flavor was everywhere! For dessert we split the dark chocolate ganache. The ganache was very rich but paired wonderfully with the whipped cream and other flavors. I don't drink, but my dad also loved the cocktails he ordered! If Tito & Pep has been on your list do not hesitate any longer. I very much regret not coming here sooner and I highly recommend giving it a try!

Suffice to say she absolutely raved - placing it on par with many of the Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants she has sampled back east. And, we agreed, when Michelin publishes its first-ever SouthWest U.S. edition later this year (2026) I recognize getting a star is a mighty fete but if Tito/Pep does not at least make its S.W. Bib list I will know the fix is in. We started with the Queso Fundido ($13) - with chewy cheese, sauteed mushrooms, and beef chorizo it was a perfect blend of meaty/savory/fatty. We also ordered the Grilled Octopus ($17). What a surprise this was, the crunchy roasted pepper flakes and unusually soft grilled octopus it kicked the pants off of "calamari-style." We inquired and the way they remove the typical rubberiness is by poaching the octopus tentacles for 5(!) hours before grilling. You Go chef Martinez! For our entree we opted for the day's special: deep fried whole Red Snapper for two ($85)... as did about a half-dozen other tables in this intimate 20-tabled venue. See pics as a written description is inadequate. The crisp was excellent and the tender moist fish just beneath, exquisite. The roasted jalapenos were other worldly - somehow only mild heat and with a subtle sweet/acid presence... totally and entirely edible. As fantastic as the vinegar slaw was atop our self-made fish tacos, the tomatillo puree was ridiculous - so fresh and not sour that its scent was nearly as strong as its flavor. We asked again, how?! and were told they first cook the tomatillos for 3 hours. Folks, the effort involved to present this kind of meal would be nearly impossible to do at home for even double the cost. We concluded with the ganache dessert ($12). While so richly decadent it was possibly too rich, only by virtue of its size... it needs to be shared! We were deeply torn over that or the olive oil cake and will opt for the latter... next year, Lol. For drinks we ordered two glasses of their "red blend" (really good for a simple blend) and then the Pie Allen after dinner cocktail ($13) - an interesting combination of prickly pear liquor and port. The staff were amazing - not just in timely attentiveness (a minimum requirement at this level) but especially in terms of being able to field our deep curiosities about several of the dishes. Due to our "layers" of ordering we stayed an easy 2+ hours and were never rushed. Parking will get tight at peak times but everyone will be accommodated. Pre-tip we were at $165 - a special occasion outing for sure but, we both agreed, an (almost) bargain. At this level of quality and degree of effort in Chicago or Miami (places she recently lived) would be closer to $250 for two. Small note: three years ago this began, now it's the norm - restaurants are calculating the tip based upon a total that's After the tax has been added. It's a minor but, nonetheless, unconsented-to, inflation of the tip. Just an fyi :)

Luckily, they put us at two long tables next to each other in the back, which was perfect, because we are a noisy group. The Cork has a very eclectic menu, very diverse. There were many choices between beef, pork, chicken and seafood, as well as Bison, lamb and venison with a few daily specials thrown in. To start off they provided wonderful breads on each table. The Cork is known as a steakhouse so many of the diners ordered steak dinners. I ordered the lobster tail which was wonderfully delicious and cooked to perfection. All of the diners commented that their dinners were cooked to their specifications, no matter what was ordered. The Cork also has a very extensive wine and cocktail menu that most of diners ordered from and were happy with their choices. Our waiter was wonderful. All of our orders were correct, which is a big job to accomplish with 18 diners in the same group. The dinners came in a timely manner, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The only issue was the Baby Back Ribs on the menu had a price of $35. However, when the check came $37 was charged for the item. When the diner pointed it out to the waiter, he stated he would fix it. Unfortunately, it did not get fixed. It went unnoticed until after we left the restaurant. Further although the reservations were made in August for this dinner, somehow our reservation was lost. Where they seemed to sit everyone coming into the restaurant. If the restaurant was packed I would understand but every other room was empty. Who wants to sit along the pathway to the bathroom? Service was so/so. Had to ask for drinks multiple times. But frankly the quality of the food was not worth the cost. Definitely will not be returning, until they revamp the menu to include less French style and more uniquely inspired fresh food. I mean if we wanted French we would have gone to Le Rendezvous or Wild Garlic which are top notch.
