Charming, colorful midtown eatery with full, colorful, healthful plates heaped with hand- crafted dishes. Constantly evolving menu with new, flavor-filled options with every visit. Beans, rice and salad are on point and compliment the entree. Free coffee and soup - unheard of today!!! Staff were attentive, kind and all seemed happy to work there. Love this place
Last year for 2025, Tucson took six coveted spots on Yelp's 100 Best Places to Eat in 2025. This year there is only one spot at #32 and it goes to Tumerico, a vegan place. You bet your ass I am going to check it out on this Taco Tuesday. Okay, the guy that greets you welcomes every customer with wide open arms. I mean, never ever have I ever met someone that awesome!!!! He walked us through the menu that seemed to have a hundred plus items. We were so overwhelmed. He told us his favorite and that is what my son ordered. The guy took the time to ask what we were in the mood for. And as we were leaving he shouted goodbye all across the room. When someone is that happy, it's infectious. Here is what we ordered: - Chocohata (authentic Oaxacan chocolate) - Mesquite Latte - Frida Khalo Tostadas - Chile Relleno - Taco Plate Warning: portions are huge!! Everything is so fresh and delicious. Vegan at its best. I could not tell that I was not eating meat. I can see how it made it to the top 100. The hours on the business page is incorrect but I am too lazy to make the correction so make sure you look it up on Google.
TL;DR: If I were blindfolded, I would never have guessed this was vegetarian/vegan. Amazing experience and will absolutely be coming back. For what it's worth, I don't necessarily agree with Yelp's rating that Turmeric is the #1 (!) spot to eat in America. That's a stretch. HAVING SAID THAT, Turmeric is doing everything right and is outstanding in every way. The service the minute you walk in is friendly, patient, and welcoming. The salsa bar is well-stocked and flavorful. Coffee for while you wait, which honestly isn't long even when it's busy. The turnover on tables is fast because the food comes out hot and fresh, you can't stop eating The cuban tacos!!! Wow - really couldn't have told you the difference between these and actual meat tacos. Juicier than most and definitely more flavorful than any other vegetarian option I've ever had. The Freida tacos were alright - a little blander than I had hoped and wasn't trying to be anything other than a veg taco. Personally, get the Cuban tacos. You won't regret it. Promise. They have expanded the restaurant since the last time I was there. There's 3 big rooms for dining, a salsa bar, and 2 self serve water stations. There's also desserts, and gifts available. I tried the special coconut curry. It was sautéed vegetables with yellow curry a with a side of beans and rice. It was good and plenty of food. Service was great. Very friendly and quick. Parking is tough in front of the restaurant but there's parking across the street.
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly, and asked if this was our first visit. The employee explained to us that the menu changes daily and everything is vegan or vegetarian. We'd been impressed that Guy Fierri ate here, and the chef is award winning, so we were really excited. Absolutely everything looked amazing, and it was hard to decide what to eat. Then a staffer walked by with food for another table and called out to us which dishes they were! That helped me decide on the Frida Khalo tostadas. My party included two people who haven't eaten at a lot of vegetarian restaurants, and they were very impressed. We all loved our food, it was beautifully presented, and the portions were huge. We also enjoyed the chocolate tees leches cake! This place is doing such an amazing job and I'd recommend to anyone, plant-based or not.
Turmerico is such a gem in Tucson's food scene. I haven't been in a while since it's a bit of a schlep for me, but every time I do go, it's fantastic. The food is fresh, truly healthy, plant-based, and the portions are very generous. The staff is always kind and gracious, and the whole place has a relaxed, casual vibe--nothing pretentious. I do miss some of the variety of bowls they used to offer. Since I'm not big on "fake" meat (though the jackfruit is actually really good), I went with the veggie curry bowl, and it was absolutely delicious. My husband and daughter, who usually prefer the real meat, each chose a different jackfruit burrito, and they both really liked their dishes. And the chips and guac are not to be missed!

Delcious!!!! This is vegetarian restaurant is excellent in taste! I got the jackfruit tacos and they were ammmmazing! I am not vegetarian, and I couldn't tell this was jackfruit! The menu is always changing but there is a good selection to choose from. The staff was very friendly and helpful! I also bought some sage while I was there!
We were 8 hungry runners and we all loved our meals. The service is very fast and efficient. They took our order when we walked in and we found lots of seating options even for our large group on a Saturday at 6pm. The place is comfortable and very spread out without it feeling like everyone is seating on top of each other. I ordered the Salma Hayek burrito (as did three others) and it was delicious. I loved the rice and beans and salad also. I also had the horchata and wished I had gotten one to go.
It's crazy that this restaurant has been open for 12 years and we had not visited before!! I have to say this is by far one of favorite Mexican places to eat now. The food was delicious and fresh. The service was fast and super friendly. Will definitely be back to try something new and bring family and relatives. My husband loved that there was FREE COFFEE..... lol
"This doesn't even taste like vegan. It just tastes good." -- my meat-eating mother-in-law said it best. We loved our lunch at Tumerico in Tucson -- it was delicious, interesting, and left us feeling satisfied without feeling heavy. The menu is entirely vegan, with options to add cheese (and eggs at breakfast), which makes it easy for mixed-diet groups. We tried the cactus tacos, Cuban taco (jackfruit), and the Frida Kahlo tostadas -- which were the clear winner at our table, especially the crispy, veggie-loaded tostada. So flavorful and satisfying. The house-made horchata and turmeric lemonade were both excellent, the guacamole was delicious, and the salsa bar is a great bonus. Friendly staff, quick service, and chips + guac arrived almost immediately. We'd definitely go back.
Enjoyed lunch here today. The only issue is it gets super loud so it is very difficult to carry a conversation The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very clean. My food was delicious... I can't stand it when the bathroom doesn't have a hook for my bag....
My work Holiday party gave us several places to choose from for dinner. I picked Tumerico, and once again this place did not disappoint. This was a to go order, and I ordered the Tumerico Burrito. (Tumerico vegan carnitas, garlic cilantro sauce, beans, rice, salsa, cashew cream, in a flour tortilla. with spinach salad on side.). The massive burrito was ah-may-zing! I am not vegan, but the complex flavors and seasonings in the burrito ...completely made me forget this was vegan! The spinach salad was most excellent s well, and left me wanting more. Tumerico has set the bar for vegan restaurants. Well thought out complex flavors to elevate Tumerico to the next level.

We've had Tumerico on our Tucson must-try list for quite some time, and we finally made it--and WOW, it absolutely lived up to the hype! The Cuban tacos, Al Pastor tacos, and tamales were all exceptional. Everything was packed with incredible flavor, perfectly prepared, and genuinely memorable. Every dish felt creative, fresh, and made with real care. Tumerico is easily one of the best vegetarian restaurants we've ever experienced--and honestly, some of the best Mexican food we've had, vegetarian or not. You definitely don't need to be vegetarian to love this place. Tumerico has officially earned a spot on our Tucson must-visit list. We'll absolutely be back every time we're in town. Yup this place lives up to the hype! I'm a meat eater but would not mind coming back to this restaurant over and over again! They greet you with a smile and are happy to walk you through the entire menu as you wait to order. They have all the classic Mexican dishes, but vegetarian. We got the carnitas and some tacos. Everything was delicious and fresh, but the carnitas were fire!! I could eat that all day. The tortillas were great and the salsas paired well with all the food. We also enjoyed their pressed beet juice. Overall an amazing restaurant with great character and delicious food! A must try. read more

Finally made a trip out to Tucson and I have been wanting to try this vegetarian spot ever since it was ranked number 1 restaurant in the USA by Yelp in 2024. My friend ordered the cuban tacos and I got the al pastor (without cheese) - both so delicious and flavorful! We couldn't even tell it was all plant-based. The rice that it came with was good as well. Truly a gem and the workers were all so nice. Would come back to try other menu items. read more
Another fantastic meal in Tucson. This was an unplanned stop as I was driving east on 6th Street and saw this place. It had been on my bucket list. So many good things about this place: service was fast, friendly and very helpful. The food came out fast and was beautifully presented. All the colors popped out. The mole was sweet and spicy and the black beans perfectly prepared. I ordered my food to go and was allowed to eat from the salsa bar and drink water while I waited. The place was busy for a Friday afternoon. I also enjoyed the wall murals. Music wasn't too loud. read more
I was really excited to try this spot when it popped up on my search. I was out with my dogs and looking for a dog friendly spot- I was surprised when they said I could sit anywhere with them. The dining area is quite large with multiple rooms. The woman helping me order was super friendly and explained the menu very well. I ordered the tamale plate off their regular menu. The tamale was moist and spicy! The greens had such a great texture and the beans were some of the best I've had. They also have a salsa bar with 4 salsas of varying spices. read more
Tumerico has earned the honor of being called the #1 place to eat in the country. I was invited to eat here for an early lunch, where I ordered tacos that came with salad, rice and beans. Unfortunately, I forgot exactly which tacos I picked they were, but the cashier was nice enough to give me two different ones after I mentioned that I'm not a big fan of spicy food. That was a good choice, because the one with brown meat was my first choice and that was much spicer between the two. The green one, I devoured, loving its mild taste. I was happy that this Latin restaurant had options that sensitive diners like myself could enjoy. I was also gifted with complimentary appetizers, including chips with salsa & guac, along with a bowl of soup. I also tried their Tumerico lemonade that had a little kick of spice than a normal lemonade; I enjoyed it way more than I expected. It's the type of drink that taste better as you consume it, and I was tempted to buy another to take home. The dining area didn't feel cramped at all, and there was a station for more sauces we could put on our food. Of course, I didn't indulge, but the option was nice. There were two gender-neutral bathrooms, which is where I noticed that the walls were covered in paintings for sale. Throughout the restaurant, there were an array of local paintings that guests could pay for; my friends chose one off the wall and all they had to do was pay through Venmo and show the cashier that they were keeping the item before leaving. That's a great way to increase business and support artists in Tucson. I would definitely come here again for its delicious, authentic Latin cuisine, along with their excellent customer service. read more

I enjoyed the tamales which came with salad, beans, golden rice and the salsa bar which had 5 different salsas plus pickled jalapeños. The meal was very large and I was quite full, could easily have split this with someone if we added a side. It is counter service and there is a case with several desserts to choose from as well. I will plan to come back to try other items when I am in town. read more
Vegan restaurant with vegetarian options, and you can even add CBD to your food--for those who are into that. The menu leans heavily on meat alternatives and carb-forward dishes. There's no table service; you order at the counter, grab a table, and they'll bring the food out to you. read more
What an amazing restaurant! Clean, cool, extensive thoughtful menu and incredible service. Super helpful staff guided us through the menu since everything sounded good. We went with recommendations of the delightful young lady who helped us and we weren't disappointed. We ordered the Cuban tacos, the tamales, cardamom latte and a veggie juice blend. Everything was absolutely delicious! Presentation was beautiful! The tacos: flavor packed! The tamales: wow! The masa is so elegant and refined. Absolutely delicious with nothing lacking. The level of thoughtful care and pride that goes into the food is evident, we felt it and thoroughly appreciate it and enjoyed every.single. bite! The drinks were a treat and luxurious as well. We cannot praise the staff enough for the smiles, welcoming and engaging spirit they offer. This makes such a difference and is so appreciated. We can't wait to return and try each offering on the menu, one at a time. We later realized that Tumerico and La Chiateria are sister restaurants. We had the same incredible memorable experience and meal there too. Don't miss enjoying a meal at one or both of these lovely restaurants. read more
I have been excited to go to Tumerjco for years and finally got to go to have lunch. Extensive menu with lots of specials, self serve water and coffee. Busy, bustling space with efficient service. We had chorizo with potato plate and I got the Sonoran barbecue plate. The chorizo with potato plate was totally fine, there were not any specific stand out flavors, everything just kinda mushed together. The Sonoran barbecue plate was also fine, beans and rice were totally flavorless but the plant based meat was interesting, nothing was bad however it was all very uniform with no variation to flavor or texture. The servings are large and lasted two meals. read more

I really love the way they prepare their jackfruit carnitas here. It seems that they dry the unripe green jackfruit completely from its juices before cooking with it which contributes to a better texture and flavor. My favorite is the al pastor burrito. It's spicy (spice varies day to day a bit) and really flavorful. It has beans and rice (the proportions seem to fluctuate daily) I get it a la carte and it comes with a salad since I don't like the rice here and only like their refried beans (They alternate between refried pinto and black beans and I find the black beans REALLY bland) . The refried are good on days they have those: I really wish they just always had the refried beans as I find their black beans to be surprisingly really bad and flavorless. I also found their pozole soup really lacking. Regardless, when knowing what to order, I think the food is delicious. I love their jackfruit carnitas tamales too and the cuban burrito or taco. The al pastor burrito is hard for me to pass on though! It's counter order casual. Note that their crema is made with cashews. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! First and foremost, this prickly pear latte is so good that my coffee snob dad beelines here every single time he visits. It's seriously that good. The cuban tacos are rich and flavorful and so craveable with a great assortment of sides. The al pastor burrito is delicious and nicely spiced. One of my favorite places when I want something healthy, fresh, and plant-based. I tried the al pastor tacos which comes with beans, rice, and a green salad. They serve breakfast all day now and I tried the breakfast burrito with eggs, rice, and beans. I would recommend adding protein to the breakfast burrito for more flavor. The staff are amazing! Friendly group of people and service is quick. They have a children area with toys. It can get loud but there are enough tables even during the busy lunch hour. If you're looking for a yummy plant based restaurant, look no further then Tumerico. read more
Found an amazing spot that serves plant-based versions of Mexican classics. The menu was packed with delicious-sounding options, from breakfast to dinner, making it nearly impossible to choose. I landed on the Sonoran Barbacoa made with tofu--so flavorful and satisfying. But honestly, the salsas stole the show. We kept bouncing between them, unable to pick a favorite. They were all completely addictive, which meant the sauce cups started piling up fast. They also had an extensive latte menu with unique flavors, so I had to try one. The mole latte was the perfect ending to an already great experience. I am tempted to drive 80 miles back to this place today! read more

If you visit Tumerico with high expectations, prepare to be pleased! This plant-focused menu is permeating with Latin fusion flavor and well rounded cookery. The curries are incredible, tacos to die for, and lattes irresistible! Located in a neat rustic plaza with natural light and chalkboard walls the comforting seating is perfect for conversation and experience. I recommend Tumerico to any foodie because while the focus is vegetarian, these dishes are simply special. read more

I have been back to Tumerico multiple times since my last review and it never disappoints! I have gotten the tamales again, the chilaquiles, and tostadas. All were incredible. I even took my meat-loving dad here and he loved the plant-based (jackfruit) carnitas on one of the breakfast plates. The service is always very friendly, helping those who look lost, and guiding people to find the best choice. The menu can be overwhelming for many first-timers since it is always rotating and often involve unfamiliar food items, but just know that whatever you choose you will enjoy! There is plenty of indoor seating in rooms with large windows for lots of natural light. The self-serve water station and salsa bar also add a touch of homeyness. On my last visit I ordered the Frida Kahlo Tostadas and enjoyed everything about them. All the portions for any plate here will be large, so be prepared to take food home with you. No you do not need reservations! You order at the counter and they give you a number then find a table and they will bring your food out!

I don't believe so! I don't know with 100% certainty, but they don't sell alcohol and I've never seen anyone drinking.
Do you serve breakfast all day?
Not really. If they have ingredients for something later in the day, they will sometimes make it. But, in my experience, this is hit or miss.
How well is the sanitation, especially during this pandemic?
Visited the restaurant couple of days and I feel they were taking good care maintaining the precautions due to covid. The restaurant was very clean, , staff and patrons were wearing masks and tables were cleaned after the table was used.
Do they have gluten free options?
Yup almost anything can be made gluten free with a corn tortilla or even no tortilla. They are very mindful of all allergies
What kind of prices ? Do they have lunch specials?
Very reasonable pricing. Menus change daily, so every day is special.
Is Tumerico large enough to accommodate a party of 9 or 10? I don't want to overwhelm or take up all the tables.
Yes, Wendy would be happy to serve. We hosted a 25 person event there and she is delightful to work with.

The brunch menu is available every day upon opening.

This place is for breakfast lunch and dinner!! Breakfast is awesome! Dinner is only on weekends sadly.
