We were cheerfully greeted and seated. The waitress answered our questions about what spices were used. The food, swish tazuki (sp?) was delicious. I opted for the potatoes which were thin sliced and spiced, not hot but flavorful. Syrian coffee and baklava to finish the meal. The decor was Mediterranean style and comfortable to dine in. My close friend asked if I have ever been to Zayna's and shockingly, I hadn't even heard of this spot! It's nestled in a neighborhood off of Pima street. I was so surprised at the length of time it's been open and how spacious the restaurant was! We were kindly greeted and shown a nice table located in the south side of the restaurant. Our server was fantastic, sharing all of the ingredients in every dish and letting us know about the specials. Everything looked delicious and I noticed the portions were huge! My friend ordered her favorite, a salad and I had lamb skewers. We added sensational hummus and french fries, too. Everything was spiced to perfection. The lamb was so tender. We really liked this spot! The food was good and the server was very kind. There are some beautiful features like the lamps and some artwork, but otherwise the space was pretty simple. Oh. My. God. How am I just now stumbling into Zayna Mediterranean like it hasn't been a whole neighborhood secret this entire time? I swear, the locals really gatekept this one -- and honestly, I get it. This cozy, tucked-away gem was absolutely buzzing when I walked in, and now I know why. The falafel? Crispy perfection. The hummus? Silky, bright, and wildly addicting. Their lentil soup was this comforting, aromatic bowl of "where-have-you-been-all-my-life." And the fact that they not only have a large vegetarian lineup but can easily make dishes vegan? Bless them. Oh -- and VEGAN BAKLAVA . A rarity, but they pulled it off beautifully. My family visited Zayna in December and I forgot to take photos and leave my thoughts. So while I was out doing errands I decided to order some take out for lunch. The person seating guests took my order at the entrance area. The area is large, clean and very nicely decorated. I placed my order and it took about 15 minutes to receive my order. She also said I was ordering the lunch special so a drink was included. I ordered their green iced tea. It was delicious. I love their chicken shawarma. The spices are amazing and the chicken cooked perfectly. I ordered a salad instead of fries. The salad was so fresh and crisp! Loved it! Their hummus is so creamy and delightful. I really love the fried cauliflower with tahini at Zayna and the baba ganouch. It feels that they use fresh quality ingredientes in general. The falafel here was not my favorite in terms of spicing (bland for me) but I only tried it once here and I am a little picky about middle eastern food since it's something I often cook at home with my exact preferences in mind. I do like that they do the Syrian falafel with the hole in the middle :) The grape leaves are also a little on the dry side for me here. But that fried cauliflower with tahini sauce and fresh salad definitely make me smile! I wish they had outdoor tables for patio seating since they have the space outside. Service and atmosphere seems nice here though I mostly got my food to go here and sat outside. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! I have celiac disease. Can't eat wheat. I arrived for lunch and ordered a shish taouk sandwich without the pita bread. Was told that was not allowed by the owner. Instead I would have to order the more expensive 'plate' and pay for the iced tea that's free with the sandwich. Totally ridiculous! Ok, it's been a hot minute since I've been here, I can't even remember the last time. To be honest I forget about it because it's not on my regular route of life. A friend told me that their falafel was really good it reminded me to go back. It is really good!!! There are only a couple of places I've found for good falafel and this is one. After searching around midtown for a mediterranean food place my boyfriend and I settled on Zayna. Neither of us has been here before but the reviews looked promising. And they were definitely not wrong. The outside looks smaller than the inside. Inside there's a ton of seating room in different parts of the restaurant. The atmosphere is definitely laid back, and they have traditional music playing in the background. The service is prompt and very friendly and they constantly come by to check on you. We shared a plate of Zayna Fries, and I got the gyro platter and my boyfriend got the chicken schwarma. We both loved our food. The portions are large so I ended up taking about half home with me for a second meal. If we're ever in the mood for Greek food again we will be back! read more

Super fast service for our party of five. We ordered LOTS from the menu and it all came out quickly. There's a couple of beers to choose from on the menu. My first choice wasn't available so I went with the Fix instead. Grape leaves were outstanding. Not overpowering, seasoned just right. I had the grill sampler plate: excellent across the board and enough to bring home for lunch the next day. The beef and chicken were both cooked to perfection without being overdone, and seasoned nicely. The side salad was your standard fair, with all the vegetables quite fresh. I got the chicken shawarma sandwich, and the chicken was seasoned perfectly. I was surprised how much I loved the pickles on it--they were so good! Renaye was my server, and she was fantastic--super friendly, helpful, and gave great recommendations. You can tell this is a family-owned place that really cares. It was a little chilly inside, but it's been rainy and cooler than usual, so no big deal. The vibes are great, the prices are fair, and everything tasted better than most places back home in Vegas. Since my last review I have been back to Zayna a few more times. Every time my brother is in town he always wants to go to come here. He recently said it is his favorite restaurant in Tucson! He always gets the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich and I get the the Chicken Shawarma Plate. The Plate comes in a large portion and I typically get two meals out of it, which is great because the leftovers always get me excited. My brother also loves the potatoes that come with the sandwich. They are seasoned perfectly, making no need for ketchup. The service is always friendly, and we typically do not have a problem getting seated. The restaurant is a place where you could get dressed up or not be and you will fit in just fine. I always love the mix of Arizona and Mediterranean decor. Overall, Zayna has become a staple Tucson restaurant for me and definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a good meal! read more
