Update on my 2021 review: Still 5 stars. Still amazing! Bigger space, THE FRIENDLIEST people who put a heap of love and passion into the cuisine, the most interesting and creative menu, and generous portions. I got a curry (not what I planned to order until I saw the specials), and it was ON POINT - fresh, flavorful, and with great texture. One of these days I'm just getting dessert, but I usually go there for "real food" (i.e. not dessert, but also unprocessed) and don't have room for the treats. Great for meat eaters too... great for eaters. I am a carnivore and I seek vegan restaurants because they usually put so much care into the food, and Tumerico sets the standard. read more

This was my first time here. I've been to their sister restaurant and loved it, so was willing to give this one a try despite them having no meat on the menu. I can say I didn't really miss it I have the mushroom tacos and the cuban chimichanga. I also had their custom lemonade, and it was fantastic. Everything was delicious, from the beans to the mains. Just really fresh and delicious. On a down note, I did grab a tres leches cake and that wasn't worth the cost or calories, so you can skip that. I highly recommend this place, even if you are a meat eater. read more

Disappointment. I'm not a vegetarian, but I do on occasion want to skip meat, and I am a fan of Mexican; so, I've been wanting to try Turmerico for some time. First, let me say the staff were quite nice and the ambiance is pleasant. BUT, the food fell way short of our expectations. Next to no taste (except the chips). We tried the guacamole, which was watery and had next to no taste, and the salsa which was insipid. My wife went with a mole, that was absent chocolate and any other herb, spice, or taste. I had a squash dish that gave new meaning to the word insipid as well as being watery. I will say the beans had some flavor, so I did eat rice and beans and left a lot of food. (No doggy bags when you wouldn't bother feeding the food to your pet. ) What a disappointment. But, I did have their coffee, and that was quite good. Were I passing by, I might even go in to get another cup. I'll just pass on the food. read more

At the same time a bit hesitant as I couldn't see the menu ahead of time (text & they'll send you a pic, but it came after we'd already eaten). Everything was AMAZING! An icon! When visiting Tucson for a week, my wife and I decided to eat here and their sister restaurant (La Chaiteris) 3 times! Not only is this the best vegan/vegetarian food I have had in a very long time, it is some of the best Mexican food you can find in the US! They often banch out in different styles, but their Mexican cuisine is so lovely. Between the few times that my wife and I ate there, the highlight was absolutely the vegan tamales. So incredibly unique, rich and flavorful I will be dreaming about them for many months to come. With olives, jackfruit carnitas, jalapenos, your mind will be blown! There isn't a bad food item on the menu, and if you want to level up, add the Tumerico lemonade on the side. A fantastic combination of ginger turmeric and lemon to die for. Their menu rotates daily, so you may never be bored of being a regular. I can tell you if I lived nearby I would keep this one on heavy rotation. read more

Tumerica is a little barebones no glare no ambiance to speak of. It kind of reminds me of a cafeteria in a nursing home. That being said the food is really good, especially for vegetarian food. My burrito was delicious and my friend liked the tika. I've eaten here a few times before and I thought I had written a review already. I don't think about coming here because it's outside my normal range. One thing it's nondescript, you can drive by and not notice it. I was definitely missing out by not coming here sooner. Granted I live in Phoenix however this place had been previously recommended to my husband. I had the tamale plate and Oh My it was so flavorful. Who knew jackfruit could be this tasty. Everything on the plate was delicious. The rice, the salad, the guacamole. I skipped the beans. I also enjoyed the green salsa so much. Service was very friendly. We stopped by at an odd hour so the restaurant wasn't busy at all but they are very spacious. This is only our second time at Tumerico. The first, almost four years ago, we were amazed by their talent with spices and textures. We had one of the best vegan adobo burros I could ever imagine -- absolutely bursting with flavor. The salsa bar was a highlight, offering a range of flavor profiles that hit every craving. The fresh cucumbers were the perfect cool balance to the spice of the salsas, and the vegan jackfruit completely fooled my taste buds into thinking it was pork. The salad felt like an odd addition to an otherwise perfectly Spanish-style plate, but honestly, no real complaints -- it was fresh and added some nice texture. I went to an event here a while back, and this was my first real visit. I was with three others, and we all tried different dishes. We were immediately greeted when we walked in; there are such friendly people who work there. The person who took our order was friendly and helpful, even checking on the ingredients in the flan we were getting for one of our guests. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito, which was simply delicious. It had a delicious flour tortilla, eggs (tofu can be substituted), salsa, and potatoes, with greens, rice, and beans. I really ate more than I should have, but did save some leftovers, which were excellent the next day too. I tried the Jamaica, but thought it was too sweet for my taste, as did another companion. The other two enjoyed their Horchata though, so I might try that next time. Overall, we all enjoyed our meals, but one of the diners found the Ethiopian Plate to be too spicy hot. It was late afternoon when we got there, and it was quiet and relaxing. We were thanked when we were leaving, and had a lovely time there. We'll definitely be back. read more

This little place is tucked into a small strip of shops down by the University of Arizona. I've actually driven by it quite a few times and never stopped. We finally decided to stop in and try it out. When we walked in someone greeted us and went over the menu items with us, they explained the difference between all of the tacos and told us all of the proteins were made from jackfruit. We both ordered the spicy taco plate. It was really good. We also added a couple of the Cuban tacos on the side. Both were good but the Al Pastor tacos were my favorite. They were nice and spicy. If you're in Tucson, I'd give this place a shot. read more

A lunch visit that has been on our list for sometime. We admired the simple menu, ease of ordering and laid back atmosphere. The walls are decorated with colorful art that are available for purchase. We were greeted when we entered and asked if it was our first visit. A short explanation of how the ordering works and self seating. Everyone we encountered were kind and very polite. I have to admit I wasn't blown away. Table was sticky. It was ok. I didn't really enjoy my jackfruit tacos. The rice and beans were boring. The salsas were just ok. I liked my kids quesadilla better. My wife didn't like her mole. The guac was good, but chips were kind of chewy (not necessarily bad...just different). It's good, not great. If you're vegan it's probably about as good as it gets. Well, after hearing so much & being 'late to the party' I had to see what the fuss is all about, especially as a former vegan who relocated from a city known for health food (PDX). Our Tumerico meals were conceptually creative though the 'meat replacement' - al pastor and barbacoa, (though I'll give the barbacoa slightly beat out the pastor) tasted pretty close to the same. The plates looked appetizing to the eye & tasted good for Mexican vegan fare. I did like the ever changing chalkboard menu, was less fond of how terribly cold it was inside for December. The chilly dining room made the food cold in record time which prob didn't help the flavor profile. Service was good, but not great and atmosphere was unremarkable. Best part was my coffee and a GF cookie. Overall, I would try again (and bring a coat!) and add more salsa from the self serve bar! read more

Tumerico was my favorite restaurant on a recent trip to Tucson. It was so good, in fact, that we went twice. The namesake Tumerico Lemonade has a generous amount of tumeric and is reason alone for going to the restaurant. The pictures don't do the food justice, It is incredibly flavorful and complex. When they say an item is spicy, they mean it, which was a welcomed change from some of the bland food we ate at other Tucson institutions. Our favorite was the tamale plate, but this is one of those spicy items that isn't for the faint of heart. The portions here are very generous, with every item coming with rice, beans and a delicious little side salad. You will be too full for dessert, but you should get the soy tres leches cake anyways. But came here for lunch and was first off surprised by the rating to review count ratio, and the many MANY awards of recognition on the wall as soon as you walk in! Guy Fieri and Kelly Clarkson were some famous faces I recognized on their wall. There was always somewhat of a line but that's a non-issue because they take orders rather quickly. The staff was proactive in gauging we were first timers and offered a rundown of the menu and any recommendations they had. There is a smaller room where you order your food, any drinks/desserts, but in the next room over there is plenty of seating to enjoy your food. The food came out impressively quick! Visiting Tucson from California and was a happy to try this place! I've been eating a lot of unsatisfying meat on my trip, so I was excited to try a vegetarian place! I'm very happy with my choice, I ordered the pozole and it was delicious! I finished the whole bowl, which is rare for me. The flavor is there even though it was cooked without meat, and I enjoyed the amount of hominy, potato, and zucchini in there. The only thing I would suggest is that they add toppings like radishes cilantro, onion, limes etc or at least have it available at the salsa bar. My boyfriend ordered the mesquite mole plate, which I tried the rice and veggies. The rice was amazing. The vegetables were really tasty but very sweet and something reminded me about Thai food lol. Service and ambiance is pretty minimal. They take your order at the counter and bring the food to you. There are many chairs and tables to sit at. I recently visited Tumerico (Yelp's #1 Restaurant in 2024) for lunch. I had the Cubano Tacos. The tacos were tasty and filled with juicy smokey tender "plant based" filling and creamy avocado. My wife had the Al Pastor Tacos which were similar to the Cubano but with more spiciness. I also had an horchata which was sweet, flavorful and milky with a nice cinnamon flavor. The sweetest staff that greet you and guide you through the menu. They do not have a fixed menu so the options change daily so you know that they really care about the food quality. This place expanded in the past few years so there is plenty of seating across the rooms. Water and hot sauce is self serve so you can get all of the different things that you need. We got the tamales and they were so good. I love a good tamale and the fact all plates include salad, rice, and beans makes sure you are completely full leaving this place.
