    Ropa viejo

Come here all the time! Recently brought some folks who had never been here before. And absolutely loved it. Everything is so clean and fresh. Everything is vegetarian with vegan options. I highly recommend the ropa dish. The curry dish is also really good. When they have the Ethiopian platter definitely get that!

As a Yelp Elite who is constantly chasing down plant-forward gems, I genuinely cannot believe I haven't written about Tumerico yet. This place is a staple for me. A regular. A comfort spot. And every single time, it delivers. Led by an award-winning chef (and no, this isn't even her only concept -- which makes it even more impressive), Tumerico is fully plant-based, vegetarian, and wildly vegan-friendly in a way that feels intentional, not trendy. Nothing feels like an afterthought here. It's creative, flavorful, and satisfying in a way that even non-vegans would appreciate. Let's talk tacos. We had the Cuban and the al pastor -- both completely vegan -- topped with this dreamy cashew crema that just ties everything together. Savory, layered, balanced. You don't miss a single thing. Add in a solid salsa bar and you're building bites exactly how you want them. And the lattes? Generous. Like actually generous. Around $6 and you're getting full, flavorful cups -- matcha, horchata lattes, spicy options, creative twists. Not watered down. Not tiny. They don't skimp. They've also got a rotating selection of vegan bakery treats that make it way too easy to justify "just one more thing." The vibe is unfussy, colorful, community-driven -- the kind of place where you can pop in for a casual lunch, bring a friend who "doesn't usually do vegan," or sit solo with a latte and feel completely at home. Tumerico isn't trying to prove anything. It just quietly serves some of the best plant-based food in Tucson. Five stars. Always.

We were 8 hungry runners and we all loved our meals. The service is very fast and efficient. They took our order when we walked in and we found lots of seating options even for our large group on a Saturday at 6pm. The place is comfortable and very spread out without it feeling like everyone is seating on top of each other. I ordered the Salma Hayek burrito (as did three others) and it was delicious. I loved the rice and beans and salad also. I also had the horchata and wished I had gotten one to go.

It's crazy that this restaurant has been open for 12 years and we had not visited before!! I have to say this is by far one of favorite Mexican places to eat now. The food was delicious and fresh. The service was fast and super friendly. Will definitely be back to try something new and bring family and relatives. My husband loved that there was FREE COFFEE..... lol

"This doesn't even taste like vegan. It just tastes good." -- my meat-eating mother-in-law said it best. We loved our lunch at Tumerico in Tucson -- it was delicious, interesting, and left us feeling satisfied without feeling heavy. The menu is entirely vegan, with options to add cheese (and eggs at breakfast), which makes it easy for mixed-diet groups. We tried the cactus tacos, Cuban taco (jackfruit), and the Frida Kahlo tostadas -- which were the clear winner at our table, especially the crispy, veggie-loaded tostada. So flavorful and satisfying. The house-made horchata and turmeric lemonade were both excellent, the guacamole was delicious, and the salsa bar is a great bonus. Friendly staff, quick service, and chips + guac arrived almost immediately. We'd definitely go back.

Enjoyed lunch here today. The only issue is it gets super loud so it is very difficult to carry a conversation The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very clean. My food was delicious... I can't stand it when the bathroom doesn't have a hook for my bag....

    Carnitas and Tacos. Delicious!

Yup this place lives up to the hype! I'm a meat eater but would not mind coming back to this restaurant over and over again! They greet you with a smile and are happy to walk you through the entire menu as you wait to order. They have all the classic Mexican dishes, but vegetarian. We got the carnitas and some tacos. Everything was delicious and fresh, but the carnitas were fire!! I could eat that all day. The tortillas were great and the salsas paired well with all the food. We also enjoyed their pressed beet juice. Overall an amazing restaurant with great character and delicious food! A must try.

    Spinach salad, Beans, rice. delicious.

My work Holiday party gave us several places to choose from for dinner. I picked Tumerico, and once again this place did not disappoint. This was a to go order, and I ordered the Tumerico Burrito. (Tumerico vegan carnitas, garlic cilantro sauce, beans, rice, salsa, cashew cream, in a flour tortilla. with spinach salad on side.). The massive burrito was ah-may-zing! I am not vegan, but the complex flavors and seasonings in the burrito ...completely made me forget this was vegan! The spinach salad was most excellent s well, and left me wanting more. Tumerico has set the bar for vegan restaurants. Well thought out complex flavors to elevate Tumerico to the next level.

Another fantastic meal in Tucson. This was an unplanned stop as I was driving east on 6th Street and saw this place. It had been on my bucket list. So many good things about this place: service was fast, friendly and very helpful. The food came out fast and was beautifully presented. All the colors popped out. The mole was sweet and spicy and the black beans perfectly prepared. I ordered my food to go and was allowed to eat from the salsa bar and drink water while I waited. The place was busy for a Friday afternoon. I also enjoyed the wall murals. Music wasn't too loud.

This place is wonderful. No wait service was the only issue for us, but a small one. Food was high quality and delicious. The portion size was worth the price. Clean bathrooms. Ample parking. Kind employees. They allowed are well-behaved dog to sit under our table. Great salsa bar. We're thrilled that we have a second vegan option in Tucson. Highly recommended for plant-based eaters and others.

    Tamales
    Kris L.

I enjoyed the tamales which came with salad, beans, golden rice and the salsa bar which had 5 different salsas plus pickled jalapeños. The meal was very large and I was quite full, could easily have split this with someone if we added a side. It is counter service and there is a case with several desserts to choose from as well. I will plan to come back to try other items when I am in town.

Tumerico has earned the honor of being called the #1 place to eat in the country. I was invited to eat here for an early lunch, where I ordered tacos that came with salad, rice and beans. Unfortunately, I forgot exactly which tacos I picked they were, but the cashier was nice enough to give me two different ones after I mentioned that I'm not a big fan of spicy food. That was a good choice, because the one with brown meat was my first choice and that was much spicer between the two. The green one, I devoured, loving its mild taste. I was happy that this Latin restaurant had options that sensitive diners like myself could enjoy. I was also gifted with complimentary appetizers, including chips with salsa & guac, along with a bowl of soup. I also tried their Tumerico lemonade that had a little kick of spice than a normal lemonade; I enjoyed it way more than I expected. It's the type of drink that taste better as you consume it, and I was tempted to buy another to take home. The dining area didn't feel cramped at all, and there was a station for more sauces we could put on our food. Of course, I didn't indulge, but the option was nice. There were two gender-neutral bathrooms, which is where I noticed that the walls were covered in paintings for sale. Throughout the restaurant, there were an array of local paintings that guests could pay for; my friends chose one off the wall and all they had to do was pay through Venmo and show the cashier that they were keeping the item before leaving. That's a great way to increase business and support artists in Tucson. I would definitely come here again for its delicious, authentic Latin cuisine, along with their excellent customer service.

I have been excited to go to Tumerjco for years and finally got to go to have lunch. Extensive menu with lots of specials, self serve water and coffee. Busy, bustling space with efficient service. We had chorizo with potato plate and I got the Sonoran barbecue plate. The chorizo with potato plate was totally fine, there were not any specific stand out flavors, everything just kinda mushed together. The Sonoran barbecue plate was also fine, beans and rice were totally flavorless but the plant based meat was interesting, nothing was bad however it was all very uniform with no variation to flavor or texture. The servings are large and lasted two meals.

Do we need reservations for 2 for Friday, 7/18?

No you do not need reservations! You order at the counter and they give you a number then find a table and they will bring your food out!

Where are dogs allowed? Is there a patio? How many tables are dog friendly?

Puede pedir que les pongan mesa afuera. Igual los perros si son permitidos dentro del restaurante. Aman a los perros. Yo he ido con el mio.

Is there a liquor license and if not, can I BYOB!?

I don't believe so! I don't know with 100% certainty, but they don't sell alcohol and I've never seen anyone drinking.

Do you serve breakfast all day?

Not really. If they have ingredients for something later in the day, they will sometimes make it. But, in my experience, this is hit or miss.

How well is the sanitation, especially during this pandemic?

Visited the restaurant couple of days and I feel they were taking good care maintaining the precautions due to covid. The restaurant was very clean, , staff and patrons were wearing masks and tables were cleaned after the table was used.

Do they have gluten free options?

Yup almost anything can be made gluten free with a corn tortilla or even no tortilla. They are very mindful of all allergies

What kind of prices ? Do they have lunch specials?

Very reasonable pricing. Menus change daily, so every day is special.

Is Tumerico large enough to accommodate a party of 9 or 10? I don't want to overwhelm or take up all the tables.

Yes, Wendy would be happy to serve. We hosted a 25 person event there and she is delightful to work with.

When is the brunch menu available?

The brunch menu is available every day upon opening.

Assuming this is mostly a lunch place?

This place is for breakfast lunch and dinner!! Breakfast is awesome! Dinner is only on weekends sadly.

Service was solid as well. Our food was the star of our visit. We started with the artichoke and spinach calzone, which was housed inside a perfectly crispy outer crust. Bonus points for the chicken that was part of the filling. We also sampled two different types of pizza - a traditional 12" Everything pie and a Detroit-style square pie. Both were excellent. And the traditional pie was one of the best pizzas I've ever had (yes, this pizza can compete with New York pizza). For both pizzas the crust was crispy and delicious. Their sauce was good as well and paired nicely with the toppings. We also had the Penne Arrabbiata, which is a traditional spicy marinara sauce; most restaurants don't get the spice right for this dish but Renee's delivered a spicy and tasty meal. Overall an excellent experience especially in a city that does not have a lot of choices for Italian. I also found it to be an excellent value.

Suffice to say she absolutely raved - placing it on par with many of the Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants she has sampled back east. And, we agreed, when Michelin publishes its first-ever SouthWest U.S. edition later this year (2026) I recognize getting a star is a mighty fete but if Tito/Pep does not at least make its S.W. Bib list I will know the fix is in. We started with the Queso Fundido ($13) - with chewy cheese, sauteed mushrooms, and beef chorizo it was a perfect blend of meaty/savory/fatty. We also ordered the Grilled Octopus ($17). What a surprise this was, the crunchy roasted pepper flakes and unusually soft grilled octopus it kicked the pants off of "calamari-style." We inquired and the way they remove the typical rubberiness is by poaching the octopus tentacles for 5(!) hours before grilling. You Go chef Martinez! For our entree we opted for the day's special: deep fried whole Red Snapper for two ($85)... as did about a half-dozen other tables in this intimate 20-tabled venue. See pics as a written description is inadequate. The crisp was excellent and the tender moist fish just beneath, exquisite. The roasted jalapenos were other worldly - somehow only mild heat and with a subtle sweet/acid presence... totally and entirely edible. As fantastic as the vinegar slaw was atop our self-made fish tacos, the tomatillo puree was ridiculous - so fresh and not sour that its scent was nearly as strong as its flavor. We asked again, how?! and were told they first cook the tomatillos for 3 hours. Folks, the effort involved to present this kind of meal would be nearly impossible to do at home for even double the cost. We concluded with the ganache dessert ($12). While so richly decadent it was possibly too rich, only by virtue of its size... it needs to be shared! We were deeply torn over that or the olive oil cake and will opt for the latter... next year, Lol. For drinks we ordered two glasses of their "red blend" (really good for a simple blend) and then the Pie Allen after dinner cocktail ($13) - an interesting combination of prickly pear liquor and port. The staff were amazing - not just in timely attentiveness (a minimum requirement at this level) but especially in terms of being able to field our deep curiosities about several of the dishes. Due to our "layers" of ordering we stayed an easy 2+ hours and were never rushed. Parking will get tight at peak times but everyone will be accommodated. Pre-tip we were at $165 - a special occasion outing for sure but, we both agreed, an (almost) bargain. At this level of quality and degree of effort in Chicago or Miami (places she recently lived) would be closer to $250 for two. Small note: three years ago this began, now it's the norm - restaurants are calculating the tip based upon a total that's After the tax has been added. It's a minor but, nonetheless, unconsented-to, inflation of the tip. Just an fyi :)

But upon tasting them, they had the perfect crunch and the perfect dash of salt. They were good! I got one of their chocolate chip toffee cookies and it was bomb!! I definitely had to hold back from ordering another. I can definitely see why people like this restaurant , from the low-key and local community feel, the great service, fresh ingredients, and they even have merch that they sell from wine, to canned drinks and stationary... something for everyone!
