Bussers are super kind and very attentive to your needs. Even at 4 PM on Friday, the spot was quite busy, although there were still plenty of tables available. We were huge fans when sweet tomatoes was a chain throughout arizona and beyond. Were in town for a conference and dined here recently. First, I'd like to say the staff is extremely friendly. Everyone from the person greeting you to the cashier, to the kind folks who clear your tables, all super nice. But the food has some work to do, and what I believe is that ownership knows it, and isn't investing in it. The salad bar itself is very good and extremely close to how it always was back in the day. BUT... of all the soups my group tried.Nobody thought any soup deserved more than a 5 out of 10. Even one of the busers said, they see lots of people complain about the soups or not finish them. I have to think the folks that own and operate this know their soups are not up to par, but are slow to figure out (or care how) to fix them. Muffins and pizza bread was good. But the tapioca pudding could not have been any more artificial tasting. I don't mind those little cheap cups that you buy the grocery store, so it's not like i'm picky, but this tasted like somebody poured some gross vanilla chemical into it. The original sweet tomatoes had extremely tasty tapioca pudding. Again, I'm betting mgt knows this already, but doesn't want to spend the money or time to fix it. Considering it wasn't very busy, I think they need to look at what food items are most left uneaten on the plate and work on those. If I can genuinely believe they're going to do that, I would happily go back on my next visit to town. But until then, I would say.don't waste your time or money. read more

Only one open in the nation?!!! It was crowded on the Saturday we went, but people move in and out quite quickly. Pre made Caesar and other salads were ok, but I preferred making my own. Raspberry vinaigrette dressing was a hit on our table, I'm sure you'll love it too. 1000 island was good too! Soups were the best! and small bowls for you to get different types were a great idea. Chili was good, clam chowder was the most popular on our table, cream of mushroom had great mushroom flavor with lots of pieces of sliced mushrooms. The cornbread was great too with pieces of corn baked in! Strawberry lemonade drink was tasty, pasta offerings were ok. Soft serve Ice cream was available but I had no more room in my belly... I haven't been to Sweet Tomatoes since they closed the location near the Tucson Mall. A friend of mine from California was passing through town and wanted to meet for lunch. I made the 40 minute drive from my house (I live on the far Northwest side of town) to meet my friend. I'm glad I did! The service was friendly from staff greeter, cashiers, to those busing tables. The salad that I put together was crisp, fresh, and refreshing! I had some clam chowder too. In a word, delicious! Great value, and worth the drive! read more

We made the trip down from Phoenix for what was probably our eighth visit to one of our favorite spots. Unfortunately, this experience fell short of the high standards we've come to expect. While the main courses still tasted great, the salad bar started things off on the wrong foot with wilted lettuce, and the dessert station remained empty and unkempt for most of our meal. The service felt stretched thin; it took a while to have trays cleared, and the restrooms were in poor condition with a broken urinal and lack of cleanliness. The drink station, however, was well-stocked and tidy. It seemed like the team was simply understaffed for such a busy night. I have been wanting to try this place for a long time. I finally had a chance to go with a friend. Nothing has changed. Same food, friendly wait staff, and cleanliness. The clam chowder had HUGE chunks of clam, the salads were spot on. We were really happy with the consistency of what Sweet Tomatoes was and still is. Great job! I have been dreaming about visiting Sweet Tomatoes since I heard that they were re-opening a location in Tuscon. I live in Phoenix, so not super far, but far enough where you do have to plan ahead to visit. Our visit was for Saturday dinner. We were greeted by a server with an tablet, telling us there was a wait. I have never had to wait at Sweet Tomatoes, so that was funny. It was maybe 5-10 minutes max and we were on our way down the salad bar line. It was exactly like I remembered! Being able to build your own salad with whatever you wanted and however much you wanted was great! Everything was fresh, clean, and attended to. The hot food areas were the same. Multiple vegetarian soup options, fresh mac and cheese, and baked goods. Everything was so yummy! Our server was very attentive and friendly, always taking away used dishes so that our table was clear. It was busy, but I never felt like I was scraping the bottom of the barrel. Fresh food was always coming out or not too far from coming out. It's probably a good thing that I don't live closer! I'd visit way too often. I look forward to next time!! read more

I can see why this place went out of business not long after covid started. The entire business model is based on buffet style eating and during those days no one wanted others to be around their food Since it reopened they have better covid safety precautions in place but the general buffet vibe remains. Having never been it reminds me like if Dennys were a buffet. The food is average. You start with a make your own salad bar and then they have soups, breads, and pasta available at their hot stations. They also have a full ice cream service bar. I think for the salad lovers you will love coming here. If you're looking for a something more substantial then go elsewhere. We will be back eventually as everything is fairly cheaper. read more

If your a salad person then this is your place. I am a salad person but the selections of ingredients were ok. I feel the placement of condiments were not good. They had cinnamon sugar and honey by crushed peppers & parmesan cheese. Not many dessert foods. This was my first time visiting and I guess my expirations were a little higher than I experienced. My co- worker came in in lunch break into Tucson from scottsdale ,Az .. we had been told there was this spot that we had in Phoenix a while back and needed to try out . We sure are glad we finally made the stop . What's not to like? Buffets do make me slightly nervous from a hygiene standpoint, but I wash my hands/ sanitize after every trip to a station before eating and have never had an issue eating here. The produce is always fresh, cold, crisp as it should be and there are so many options at the salad bar to please everyone. We also enjoy the soups which rotate, baked regular and sweet potatoes with toppings, pastas and little flatbreads, and dessert options including pastries/ muffins, soft serve ice cream and toppings, sugar-free mousse and puddings, and fresh fruit. What's not to like? This is the only sweet tomatoes location in the us currently and it's everything I remember from a few decades ago and more. Food- I love the salad bar- the ingredients appear fresh and pretty with so much color. The station is kept pretty clean and it's a great way to get a variety of vegetables. The soup bar can be hit or miss. Sometimes the soups are made too salty and other times they're perfect. I'm not sure why but at least the last few times I've gone, it's been great. But there were a handful of times and especially the chicken soup was bad. The hot potatoes, flat breads, and pastas are always delicious. Desserts are excellent as well. I do love how the menu specials change each month to keep things interesting! The staff are always incredibly friendly and clean up our plates fast when we get up for our next round of food. I hope sweet tomatoes continues to grow again and re-establish to the prominent buffet it once was. This location is exactly how I remember it and more. Of course I am going to give Sweet Tomatoes 5 stars....it's Souplantation with a different name. I miss Souplantation so much and was so excited to get a chance to eat at Sweet Tomatoes while in town vising Saguaro National Park. The ranch is creamy and rich, the salad bar fresh with all of the perfect topping choices, and the soups hot. I was happy to see that hard boiled eggs were still an option for salads and there were even some new savory foods from the hot bar. They didn't have my favorite soup, broccoli and cheddar, but they did have a chicken pot pie soup that I tried, and it was very flavorful. Please open in San Diego! read more

How does one not live what used to be soup plantation? All the sweet tomatoes in the country closed during pandemic and Tucson was lucky enough to get them back first. Everything is amazing. The food is fresh, the chili recipe is the same. The place is card only but bring a few bucks to tip the people who walk around and bus the tables. They deserve it. I grew up in Tucson so I've been to this Sweet Tomatoes a lot. I was so bummed when they closed and overjoyed when they reopened! I've been twice since they reopened and both times were a blast from the past. Absolutely nothing has changed - they have the same exact furniture and tableware. It is so nostalgic and I love it so much! The first time I went in April 2024 there was a line out the door. Today there was about a 10 minute wait so it was much better. The salad bar was fantastic as always. It's not great if you have contamination allergies, so keep that in mind if you are considering visiting. I built myself a massive salad just like I did when I was a kid, then had some hot bar stuff and dessert. Everything was just as good as I remembered. I could honestly go here for every meal. For about 20 bucks you get unlimited food and drinks for two hours. They only take card so make sure you have debit or credit when you go. It's so worth it! I can't wait to go back again. The restaurant is kept very clean despite how busy they are. Tables are cleaned immediately without rushing you. The bathrooms are clean. The parking lot is pretty big, so while you may need to walk a bit you can always find a spot. People have travelled hundreds of miles to go here and it is absolutely worth it. Everything is just as it has always been- fresh salads, fresh ingredients and all the toppings!! Great pizza, pasta and of course the soups! From walking through the front doors, all of the good memories come rushing back. I love how everything is exactly as I remember. We routed our road trip from Austin, Texas to Las Vegas, Nevada to go to Sweet tomatoes in Tucson, Arizona. If you weren't a fan before, then you might not understand the nostalgia of this restaurant. In May 2020 all Sweet Tomatoes closed due to COVID. They never reopened but thanks to social media getting the word out, we saw one and only one spot say it was open April 2024. We did so much research to make sure that this place was actually open and not a hoax. In June 2025, one of our road trip spots was Tucson, Arizona strictly to go to Sweet Tomatoes. Our hotel was even chosen to be close. When we arrived at the parking lot my son and I both got really excited and nervous at the same time. How can this be the same? Can it be as good? Are we kidding ourselves to think we can go back to that pre-Covid restaurant we love so much? But the minute you walk in it's all the same. You are flashed back to that time and that smell!!! The trays still boast sweet tomato logo. You still get those red orange and yellow plates. You walk your tray and plate down the line getting either the premade incredibly and tastefully designed salads or you make your own with a boost of so many options. Like I said, the rundown is incredible. You have carrots, cucumbers, olives, sweet pickles, regular pickles, chickpeas, peas, beets, Romain, lettuce, spring mix, sunflower, seeds, croutons, few options of cold pasta salads,broccoli salad, & cheeses, etc. As you arrived to the end of the bar you purchase your salad bar and drink cups. We paid $.50 extra to have a to go cup. The price is still super reasonable and they even have a rewards set up for people who regularly get to go. Unfortunately we live too far away to go regularly. I did ask if they honored sweet tomatoes previous gift cards and they don't. That was OK because I was happy to be there anyway. We sat down in the dining area. They had booths and tables and all was still the sweet sweet design that we loved and remembered from all of the original restaurants. They even have the cute little notes on your table that say "be ripe back" or "see you next thyme" so you can place them on your table so your weight staff knows whether or not you're coming back to your table. Even the drinks were still the same. There was this lovely herbal iced tea (I'm so sorry I can't remember exactly what it was, some kind of hibiscus blend) and they still had it. They also had strawberry lemonade, lemonade, sodas, and regular iced tea. They still have their hot bar with two different kinds of focaccia cheesy bread, pastas and delicious mac and cheese, muffins, cornbread, gluten free options, 5 seasonal and changing soups (we got chili, & broccoli cheese, cream of mushroom), baked potatoes, sweet potatoes and all the fixings, a honey butter for muffins, desserts like banana pudding, fruit, cookies, chocolate lava cake, and soft serve ice cream. There is so much here. I love that. There's something for everybody's taste bud and they don't skimp on anything. Everything tasted phenomenal, fresh and clean. The service was great. We were greeted as we walked in the door and the girl attending the salads was super friendly and told us how busy they can get and how luckily we were that they weren't as busy today and we didn't have to wait in line. I've seen that this place can get really busy even before Covid so I can only imagine how nuts this place gets being the only one open. Trust me people do travel here from other states to go here. Be patient and kind to all the employees. We want this place to stay forever. They don't take reservations so be patient if you get there and have to wait. They do only accept card for payment so please make sure you bring cash for a tip. For a buffet salad bar this is way more than five stars. We missed Sweet Tomatoes in Pleasanton, CA and was very pleased with the excellent selection and table service at this location in Tucson. Table was clean more often. Noise level was family oriented (lots of varying conversations) but not overly loud. Lots of desserts and AYCE for similar price as large salad at Whole Foods. read more
