I really don't understand how this place has a below 4.0 review on Yelp I've been there about 5 times (all dining-in), so I feel qualified to make a fair and honest judgment. For whatever reason I was avoiding this place but I was definitely wrong to do so! They have great food here and is pretty much on par with my other favorite Asian food place. They also have one of my favorite dishes which I can't ever seem to find anymore on Chinese food menus: BBQ Pork Noodle Soup. I used to order that when I was a kid because that's what my Grandfather did and it reminds me of him. I was ecstatic to see it on their menu. And it tastes delicious. Most recently I had the walnut prawns and they were perfect. I also love their crab puff appetizer. Pretty good little place. My brother came into town and I was headed to Safeway so I suggested we try this place. All the food was delicious and portion sizes were enough to take home. The entrees were ok but the soup rice and egg roll left us wanting. The egg roll filling was mushy and lacked texture. The soup ( both egg flower and sweet and sour) were excessively thick and tasted as if they had been holding for a long time. We added boiling water and they were more palatable. I got stuck in Marana at like 730 PM for work this week- not happy. Husband was with me and said we needed to try this place because he remembers the crab puffs being amazing. My shrimp were tender and not over cooked, the sauce was flavorful and homemade- even the broccoli was perfect cooked and not mushy. I oftentimes read other Yelp posts before my postings and usually find myself shocked at some of the commentary. 1. They are closed for in-house dining for COVID and have an amazing, safe set up to order. Kudos 2. The wait was 20 minutes. Pretty fast for a last minute evening order 3. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. I don't really enjoy the Marana scene but I would actually make the drive from where I live to go here. We've had food from here several times and it has always been delicious. Tonight we actually ate in the restaurant versus take out. As we are eating I noticed a huge cockroach on the floor under the table in front of us. I'm a huge bugaphob and have massive anxiety so I couldn't take my eyes off this thing. I knew if it moved I would scream. So my husband told the server who basically went and tried to get it, it ran towards our table and she just stomped on it. That was it and I was out of there. I'm questioning why I didn't get up and leave the second I saw that thing, but hey, we live in the desert. But cockroaches to me are the worst. I have ordered food for pick up 3 times in last 9 months. I had the exact same experience each time. I was told the order would be ready in 20 - 25 minutes. It was an hour. If it's gonna be an hour, SAY SO!!!! Other people left saying they could not wait any longer. While I waited...and waited for my order, I had to listen to the radio play one commercial after another. It was bouncy and cooked just right. The noodles didn't break or mushy. Ratio of noodles to onions to protein was good. It was a tad salty but the flavors were definitely there. ·Teriyaki chicken 1/5: this was objectively the worst dish of the night. The sauce to chicken ratio was ridiculous, and the chicken had the consistency of boiled chicken. ·Chicken and broccoli 3.5/5: definitely wasn't bad. The veg was cooked fine, chicken was tender. I think what really made the dish was the sauce. However, it did have the same issue with the hofun being a tad salty. Otherwise, it was pretty good. ·Happy Family 4/5: this was much tastier than I expected. They may have used the same mother sauce as chicken and broccoli but the veg in this dish made the sauce naturally sweeter. ·Chicken lo mein 5/5: it's easy to make fried noodles but difficult to make it delicious. Lo mein noodles can get mushy fast and break when picked up but these were nicely cooked. Unlike the hofun, the lo mein was nicely seasoned. ·Walnut Chicken 5/5: Had the shrimp version of this before so I was pleasantly surprised with this chicken alternative to it. It's perfect for those with shellfish allergies but wanted to try it. ·Sesame chicken 3/5: it was a pretty standard sesame chicken. It wasn't even a little bit bad. Just a bit lackluster when there were other amazing dishes to eat from. ·Egg Drop Soup 3.5/5: I don't know why their soup is so thick but I don't hate it. Perhaps they use stock instead of broth. Besides that the flavor was spot on. It was very tasty but also had the unfortunate time of also being served along side some other amazing dishes so it was definitely outshone. Everything came out to be almost $110 and I added a 10% tip. The price was great considering I bought enough food for 8 people with food left over, and service was nice also considering I ordered this about an hour and a half before closing. But the reason why I'm giving 3 stars is because with the amount of money I dropped for this food plus tip, I was supposed to also have a couple orders of free crab puffs or whatever they give when you spend a certain amount.
