Decided to go to GMG for lunch with my mom after her appointment. We got there as soon as it opened at 11:00 a.m. . Service is always phenomenal here. We were promptly greeted at the door and seated. The restaurant is always clean. The bathrooms are spotless. Just an overall nice environment to enjoy a meal. We decided to order the wok wonton soup, house lo mein, walnut shrimp, and the pork egg rolls. That soup is loaded with all kinds of goodness shrimp chicken pork napa cabbage water chestnuts and the broth is fabulous so warm comforting and very flavorful. The lo mein was full of meat and the noodles were very well seasoned. The wall that shrimp is actually some of the best that I've had. It was nicely coated in the sauce the shrimp were nice and crispy and plump. The portion size is here are great value for the money. GMG is my fave Chinese restaurant in town right now. The service is unbeatable. They're so friendly and they take really good care of us when we dine in. They're also very helpful for takeout. The food is typically prepared quickly and is so fresh. The dining experience is very nice as well. I love that the ambiance can flip between upscale casual or casual. I've seen folks having business meetings there, but I've also dressed casual when dining in with my family. It's very comfortable and accommodating. I highly recommend the lunch and dinner combos. My husband and I have been getting takeout from here for years. We've typically had good experiences and the food has almost always been great. However, there have been some inconsistencies in terms of quality--both in food and service. For example, on our most recent order the fried rice we received was just rice--nothing in it. Previously it's always had egg, carrots, and peas. Also on our most recent order we specifically requested no mushrooms in the cashew chicken. It was on the receipt and written on the box--and yet when we opened the box, mushrooms galore. The interior is nice, although I've never dined in. Christmas lights were still strung up on the walls in late March, which made me feel a little sad. Overall, I wouldn't write this place off. I will certainly return. The food is good--especially when all of the stars are perfectly aligned. But the inconsistencies steer me toward other Chinese restaurants, given the option. read more

We had a delightful dinner on Saturday night. Waitress was funny and we had great service. Food was delicious! However, we noticed the drink prices for a martini was way too expensive. I would like to tell the owner that a decent pour would increase his patronage. The waitress brought the drink that had very little vodka in the glass. We ordered a double which would be a regular pour in any other restaurant. We were charged $14 a drink . The restaurant was very quiet for a Saturday night. I didn't expect so many potatoes in my shrimp curry. The flavor of the curry was excellent it was yellow curry but brown in color! It had way too many potatoes, especially for a dish that comes with a large portion if rice. It also had peas, mushrooms, and carrots. I guess I'm spoiled with all the Portland, OR Chinese food! This used to be one of our family's favorite asian restaurants. However, not even close anymore. My last two take out orders left me very disappointed. I thought maybe their normal cook was gone that day or on vacation. So, I gave them another try. I couldn't even finish my entrée. Even their crab puffs didn't taste the same. GMG Chinese Bistro has gone downhill as of late. Our recent meal was virtually tasteless, as if the chef had forgotten to add spices. The chicken was tender but the carrots and snow peas were undercooked and rock hard, making them inedible. We had to steam them in a small pot to soften them up. The Vegetable Egg Rolls were also lacking in flavor and appeared to be smaller than the ones we had in the past. We always order takeout so we can't comment on the service. But the quality of the food has taken a turn for the worse. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! I read mixed reviews about it but it looked good overall so we decided to try it. The service here, at least by our waitress, was the best I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant. She was constantly checking on us and refilling our drinks even if we weren't even halfway through yet. When you sit down you recieve a small bowl of wonton chips with sweet and sour sauce and spicy mustard. We ordered the crab puffs, BBQ Pork Noodle Soup and Beef & Broccoli. The food is delicious and very fast coming to the table. The atmosphere is quite nice and everything was clean and spotless, even the glassware and silverware. The food is not very good... it's undercooked, over sauced and doesn't have much flavor. But the service is terrible. Our server was quite rude and acted very inconvenienced by our presence. She filled my sprite with water without asking and then argued that I never ordered a soda? The whole experience was weird and uncomfortable. Tasty and fresh Chinese cuisine with lots of good selections. Great for takeout if you live nearby. They box everything and package it so things don't get soggy. Typically accurate time for pickup so food is still hot. Interior is dated and boring but clean. Staff is usually upbeat and efficient. This is good Chinese food for Oro Valley. read more

I've had a couple of different experiences here the first time we tried it, we had lunch and it was fresh and delicious. The next time we went to pick up takeout, it was in the evening and by the time we got home the food was soggy and it wasn't very good. Looking for an Asian restaurant in my area and my friends at Nails Of The World told me about GMG Chinese Bistro in Oro Valley is pretty awesome. No MAG either! Nice pick! Clean, modern, and spacious. Service at many Asian restaurants is poor at best but at GMG it was great. The food was served freshly prepared and hot! Flavor and texture were spot on. We were noticing the Asian clientele there too, that speaks volumes to me. GMG is located in a strip mall with their subdued signage. It's a sleeper! We have been eating ONLY GMG Oriental food for almost as long as they have been in business in our community. Once we went there for dinner, we couldn't even think of going anywhere else for a meal serving the Chinese food we loved. I was there about two weeks ago and couldn't understand why nothing tasted like anything I had ever eaten there. The appetizers tasted like they were NOT made there, the fried rice didn't taste like theirs, the Moo Goo Gai Pan had all of three small pieces of chicken in it and tasted NOTHING like what I ever had there before, and had hardly any vegetables that I always looked forward to eating! I should have sent my food back, or requested the attention of a manager, but I was with friends and didn't want to embarrass them. Unless the people who are in charge understand what they are doing and continue to try and feed garbage, I don't think they will be there for very long. Unless I learn that someone else has taken over this business, I will not go back again. What a shame‼ read more

GMG is one of our good, local Chinese places. They have a large menu, and reasonable prices. Classic American Chinese food. I had the Singapore Rice Noodles, which were delightfully seasoned with curry, and generous portions of shrimp, chicken, and Cha-Su bbq Pork The service is prompt and attentive. I did wait a while for my check at the end as it was later in the afternoon and the staff was sitting down to eat their meals. One unique touch at GMG are the pickled vegetables served as you are seated. A refreshing change from crispy noodles. The interior lighting is unusual and seems to change color. The food is excellent here, I would give it a five if we had been given our to go order promptly. It was sitting about 10 minutes - even though we arrived early for it & we were sitting inside waiting. The hostess was super efficient except for that. I couldn't help thinking that she neglected it because I didn't write a tip on the check (we paid when I walked in - which was not how the rest of the to-go patrons did it.) Pass this place all the time, looked it up and decided to give it a try. Called ahead ordered the wor wonton soup which comes with two containers more than plenty. I liked the light broth and vegetables but the wontons had zero flavor of herbs or spring onion, no spices very bland. The pot stickers was disappointing as well. Was this ground meat chicken or pork? Pot stickers had zero flavor. It was mysterious clump of ground meat in both wonton and pot stickers. Egg rolls veggie we ordered 2 were ok, smaller than what I usually get size wise in other restaurants but there was good flavor. The main entrees were beef pepper steak, which was average fresh vegetables and beef sauteed well and flavorful sauce. Kung Pao chicken was very good, great flavors tasty sauce with fresh vegetables sauteed with chicken. A little on the hot side for taste that sort of takes away from dish, next time will request to tone that down some definitely hotter than other restaurants make. The bbq pork fried rice was very average. The char siu pork is always the star in this dish if not done right lacks flavor in which this was the case. Out of convenience would definitely order again but never anything wonton or pot sticker here. They currently have take out only. No entrance inside.
