    Spring rolls
    Craig W.

I went with the eggplant with fried tofu. The eggplant dish included onions, red and green bell peppers, basil, and eggplant. The eggplant was soft. For whatever reason, I run into a lot of soft and gushy eggplant around here at Chinese and Thai restaurants. Whereas I'm used to a bit more crunch and no gushy in LA. Despite a wonderful brown sauce that has a slow burn, there was no flavor with the eggplant. The fried tofu was solid. It was a mix of soaking up the sauce or not. The red and green peppers were crunchy and tasty. I added fried rice. For the appetizer, I went with the spring rolls, which were fried and come with bean sprouts, carrot shreds, mushroom bits, and cabbage. It tasted good, but I wondered if they were made on site or not. My vibe is that they were not. On a positive note, I was able to get chopsticks via the Uber Eats app. They give you a lot of food, for leftovers, and I did like that both cartons are microwave safe.

Had dinner and it was delicious. Our waitress was amazing. The best Chinese food I've had so far. It's a small restaurant but very beautiful on the inside. The food is extremely delicious. The ambience is very welcoming. Thank you so much to the cooks and the waitress and everybody else that made our dinner so perfect. I will definitely be back again

Great food and service was outstanding. We ordered appetizers a d two entrees. We had the spring rolls which were fresh and good size. The potstickers were very flavorful. The entrees were good portions. Hawaiian chicken was flavorful with hint of spice. The two chicken was very good. Great taste and portion. The beverages was ice tea. Fresh brewed black tea with a slice of lemon. Consistent refills. Just Splenda and sugar for sweeteners. The server was quick and kind. We didn't have to ask for anything. She was on top of everything we needed. The prices were average. $13 a plate. And I surely would go back. Place was very clean and a constant flow of customers. Place seats about 50 people. Not a big place, but not small either. Very pleased.

Buddhas Delight, takeout. It was alright.

My only experience with Cheng's Beijing is through their takeout. It was very meh, even with my lower standards for Chinese Takeout in Tucson. I wouldn't say it was bad. I ate all my food because I was hungry and had been craving takeout for months. But afterwards I wondered if it was worth it. There are a few vegetarian options which is nice. The Buddha's Delight sounded so fresh and light in the description. In reality, the veggies were tainted with this canned flavor from the water chestnuts and the noodles were scant and mushy. Would not order again. The pad Thai did not taste like any pad Thai I've ever had. It tastes like fried noodles. It was decent, but was hoping for some more sweet/tart/spicy Thai flavor. The service is okay. Not friendly, not mean. The online ordering is easy but you must pay in person. Kind of annoying. Overall, very middle of the road takeout place. Perhaps I got the wrong entrees. Seems like people enjoy the Laksa and Vietnamese dishes. But don't think I'll be back to try those.

Delivery pho...tons of meat and noodles. A good fillings to broth ratio!

I was not expecting good pho from a Chinese restaurant but I w a s pleasantly surprised by Cheng's pho. The broth was delicious and their portion size was perfect. They also had a great amount of noodles and beef slices. There's not very many good choices for pho around Oro Valley, especially delivery options, so if I'm ever in a pinch or need a pho fix I know where to go!

    Where is the sauce? Where?

I have not had takeout in quite some time. I finally decided, "You know what, get some takeout!" and I sat down and started looking at different delivery options. I have 2-3 "go to" amazing Asian places that I tend to stick to but I saw a new place: Cheng's Beijing. I decided to try something new and now I know (1) stick to what I love and (2) I will not be patronizing Cheng's Beijing again. When one orders takeout you really are paying for several things: the food, the delivery fee (I used DoorDash and don't really complain about the fees, they're doing a service, but you do figure it costs several extra dollars for delivery fees), and then the delivery driver tips (my driver was amazing! love my delivery drivers!). So I spent quite a bit on three different items. And thus, I expect the food to at the very least be better than Panda Express. Guess what: I found a place worse than Panda Express. Seriously! For an appetizer, I always order crab puffs. I really think you can tell a lot about an Asian restaurant by their crab puffs. This place is on-par with pricing trends when it comes to their appetizers but the crab puffs themselves are the most disappointing crab puffs I have ever had. They are barely filled (if they are filled... I had two with absolutely nothing in them, they were just a nice little Asian chip). Other places stuff their crab puffs full. This place was ridiculous and barely put anything in them. What was in them had no real flavor... how could that be? I ordered the sesame chicken because it is always a 'safe' choice when you're trying a new place out. I did see a gorgeous photograph of some sesame chicken that looks nicely battered and well sauced. What came in my delivery was the worst disappointment I've ever received. I snapped a photograph of the complete lack of sauce. I dug around the box, thinking maybe the sauce all settled at the bottom? No. There is just really no sauce on this. Which leads me to believe they make the chicken then add the sauce (not terrible, just kind of makes you go 'meh') but in this case of takeout they just really gave me no sauce to work with. They are on par in terms of pricing but the sesame was missing (looks nothing like they photograph, of course) and their portions are smaller than other places for similar pricing. The main dish does come with a side of rice. I upgraded to the fried rice and what a waste of two dollars. The rice is okay, actually, but it doesn't even seem to have the nice 'brown' of a fried rice. Sigh. The bao buns are actually the 'best' thing in the delivery. And with that being said they leave a lot to be desired. The pork filling inside doesn't have great flavor. It is "okay" but I would not go out of my way to get these again. Honestly, I've had much better from other places in Tucson. Here is my honest review: I would not seek this restaurant out again. While I do believe the 'in person' experience is often a bit better than takeout, that does not mean that takeout should be so poorly crafted. I spent good money for food that the restaurant didn't even bother to finish, didn't bother to make well, and surely didn't 'care' to keep a customer.

    Reality Check: Never Again.
    David D.

It was the worst Chinese Food or Asian Food I can remember ever having anywhere. A frozen microwave Asian dinner would have been better. They combined a poor attitude when I walked into the restaurant with bad food to earn 1-star. I really don't know why they are in business? I really don't. I'll tell you--if the food was great with that bad attitude, I never would have mentioned it in the review as I usually don't service issues unless they are so bad. I ordered the Moo Go with Chicken. Basically their version of Chicken with vegetables. What could go wrong with this meal? They must use pre-cut frozen slices of chicken breast like the kind you get in a bag at Costco. No fresh vegetables--everything out of a bag. Their microwave must be running all day. Very little vegetables. Tasteless. The chicken was rubbery and had that disgusting aftertaste like it was previously frozen. If I was not so tired and hungry I would have sent it back. But I think they knew that, because they were so unfriendly and abrupt when I came in that they knew they were about to screw me. They were letting me know I was about to get a bad dinner--one last chance to escape. Even the white rice was mediocre. When I asked about getting Brown Rice the waitress said: "I will have to put it in the microwave...." Just one little bright light from this dismal meal: I liked my fortune from the cookie. In order to run a successful restaurant and stand out it takes hard work daily. You have to buy fresh quality meats and cooked them daily. You have to buy quality fresh vegetables and chop them up and combine them with a tasty sauce. You can't rely on frozen or canned provisions from a food service. Fresh is what is worth paying for--never frozen! I hope this never happens again....

It comes with fried tofu typically but they let you exchange the tofu with a couple of their delicious vietnamese crispy rice paper egg rolls that are stuffed with deliciously seasoned tofu (#14 on the menu) and that's my favorite way to order it. Mixing all of it together is heaven. This is by far my favorite here! I find that I generally really like taro- all parts of the plant! The root as served in this restaurant and in Thai desserts, the leaves in filipino laing and the stalk (elephant ear stalk) in vietnamese Canh Chua soup. #20 Fried rice noodles dish (ask for the crispy option!) . This one became quite expensive recently but when I had it in the past it was delicious. Definitely get the crispy version! #14: Those vietnamese crispy rice paper egg rolls that are stuffed with deliciously seasoned tofu are so good. They let you get them a la carte but the full plate comes with the sauce and herbs. I get them as part of #16 as described above so it has the sauce and herbs in that dish as well. I really love that they have a vegetarian and vegan menu and that they have the vegan sweet soy sauce available in place of fish sauce for that menu. The restaurant is attached to Lee Lee international supermarket which is an absolute must visit in my opinion for international food lovers and people who want to learn about world cuisines. It's a great place to find international ingredients that are not easily found elsewhere. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. The pho broth also clearly had been simmering for hours. It was dark and rich in flavor while the veggies were still crisp and fresh. Overall an 8/10. The Taiwan beef was a big hit too. That beef was so soft, it would just melt in my mouth. It's about as rare as celiac disease.... Everyone claims to have it. Can it be an intolerance, sure as with anything, but our body uses sodium physiologically and the other part is an amino acid that naturally occurs as well. That amino acid is derived from vegetables. So I call BS, but whatever. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) and sodium chloride (NaCl, table salt) differ primarily in their chemical structure and sodium concentration. MSG is a salt of sodium and glutamic acid (an amino acid) containing ~12-14% sodium, while NaCl is a compound of sodium and chloride containing ~39-40% sodium. MSG provides umami taste, whereas NaCl provides saltiness.  Key Chemical Differences: Chemical Formula and Structure: NaCl: A simple ionic compound, with a cubic crystal structure. MSG: A salt of glutamic acid. (monosodium glutamate hydrate), which contains a sodium ion and a glutamate molecule. Sodium Content: MSG has roughly two-thirds less sodium by weight compared to table salt. Production/Source:NaCl: Obtained through mining or evaporation of seawater.MSG: Produced through the fermentation of starches, sugar beets, or sugarcane. Flavor Profile: NaCl provides a purely salty taste. MSG triggers the umami (savory) taste receptor, enhancing flavor without high sodium levels. Appearance: Both are white, crystalline, but MSG crystals are often longer/prismatic (like "mini snowflakes") while table salt is often granular or cubic.  Impact in Cooking:While both enhance flavor, they function differently. MSG adds savory depth (umami), while salt provides salinity. Due to lower sodium levels, MSG is sometimes used to reduce total sodium intake in food, providing savory flavor without excessive sodium.  So Newton Pho.... Keep serving up your yummy goodness. I appreciate it!!!
