The only place in Tucson, I think, has stinky Tu-fu. There are other types of Chinese food too, ask for the Chinese menu, you'll love it. Food here is always great. We were one of the first people in today for lunch. The service was OK, but it could've been improved. She seemed confused because we asked for separate checks. I might be a little generous giving four stars. I had Mu Shu pork pancakes. They were delicious, but I did not like how they used regular tortillas for the crêpe pancakes. I wish they would make their own. It would fit in with the standard of food they were surfing. My friend got the pepper steak and it was very good and high-quality. I think Ba-Dar is one of the better Chinese restaurants in town. They're great not only on delivery but in person restaurant as well. At first, the menu can be overwhelming but it's really just nice that they have so much options. My faves include the steamed potstickers with chili oil and scallions, steamed fish for the entree, and they do really well on the fried rice as it isn't very greasy. The chicken wings they do here is really quite good as well. If I'm not mistaken, for the fried rice, Ba-Dar is also one of the few that offer the option for brown rice but only in-person orders. So on delivery orders, you kinda just get what you get. Either way, Ba-Dar is one of the older Chinese restaurants in town that's still stays pretty authentic with the flavors they serve and the food options are not so greasy or unhealthy. The service in the restaurant is great and it's a nice place to take the whole family, really it feels like your stereotypical "only Chinese restaurant open on-insert holiday here-" type of place. I actually felt guilty having lunch at Ba Dar. I have posted so many glowing reviews of my favorite Chinese restaurant; but my dining partner wanted to try Ba Dar, so we went. Anwas a very nice experience. The dining room is lovely. Planters are filled with colorful plants and flowers, and floral tablecloths grace each table. We were warmly greeted by the hostess. She brought icy water right away with menus. We were grateful; August in Tucson, you know. We were hungry and lots of things looked good, but we decided on a lunch special because it included hot and sour soup, which we specifically use as our marker for assessing deliciousness at Chinese restaurants. I've come to appreciate Americanized Asian cuisine (AAC) and its place in our culture. AAC restaurants don't serve 100% authentic dishes but it's good anyhow and that's okay. The fact is, unless I'm in a restaurant where there's roasted duck, pork, or chicken hanging from hooks, the expectation for "authentic" Chinese food is low. Ba-Dar was a surprising hit closer to the authentic side of the scale. The staff was super friendly and made it a point to connect with my wife and I as well as our kids. The three dishes and one appetizer we ordered came out quickly and was enough to feed our party with leftovers. I probably won't make it a point to come by the next time I'm passing through town but Ba-Dar was an enjoyable experience for tourists and locals alike. Enjoy! read more

Went to Ba-Dar for the first time and it was amazing. Started with some lettuce wraps and they were great. I ordered the Spicy Hong Kong Pepper Beef and it came out sizzling like fajitas! Upgraded to the Dinner menu and it came with Rangoon's, an Egg Roll, and some Egg Flower Soup. Along with Fried Rice for my main dish. They gave me my moneys worth for sure. Sue our server was awesome. She provided excellent service and was very friendly. The place was clean and had a very relaxing atmosphere. I think this will be my new go to for Chinese food. Underrated, lesser-known hole-in-the-wall serving up classic with a little flair. It's easy to miss this place, and I'll be honest, parking is a little bit of a pain. But squeeze right in to the little lot for lunch and prepare to leave happy! What's to love: Oh wow, they have lunch combos on weekends. That's rare nowadays! And their sides are a little bit different--instead of regular fried rice, they've got BBQ pork rice to accompany your dish. I was really hesitant, but that stuff is delicious. I had some with crispy orange beef--which was perfectly tenderized on the inside and crispy on the outside. If that sounds too rich for you, rest assured there are a dozen vegetarian-friendly combos as well. Service is kind, food comes out fast, and you can overhear happy long-time regulars raving about their food like they're discovering it for the first time. Had a solid Chinese dinner meal here! Don't let the strange name or location fool you! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly waitress and offered to sit in any booth (my favorite) we wanted. The restaurant is a little messy with cardboard supply boxes in the dining area, but other than that, tables and floors were clean. We ordered their fried rice, kung pao chicken, and won ton soup. I had a hankering for some great Barbeque Spareribs, egg rolls and a duck or pork main dish. Not gourmet, but good, solid, reliable Americanized Chinese food like I grew up on, not the magnificent versions I have eaten around the world, including in China. My prior meal there was just that: good, solid, reliable food and I enjoyed it. I went back today and had a very different experience, sadly. The staff were welcoming and the place is spacious and clean, if a bit worn. But the food was, well, dreadful. I ordered a pork egg roll which was a bit soggy. They brought sweet and sour sauce automatically and then obliged with a little dish of hot mustard when I requested it. The eggroll came with some eggroll skin fried chips, a little weird, but less nice than they would have been if they, too had not been a bit soggy. The ribs (4 for $10) were, to be honest, absolutely dreadful. I could barely get them down. I have taken them home, but I doubt that I will be able to find any way to make them edible. They were soft, marinated in something that was not what it was supposed to be and not at all satisfying. On to the West Lake Duck ($19): I sent it back. It was supposed to be duck mixed with vegetables in a brown sauce. There were, it was true, a good many vegetables (broccoli, onions, carrots, a bit of baby corn on the cob) but the skin had 1/4 inch of fat under it and was so soft that there was no way to separate edible skin from a horrible fat pad. The meat was fatty and inedible. To give the staff their due, when I told the waitress that I could not eat the West Lake Duck she brought out one of the staff who could deal with it and in a quick and very professional manner, the dish was whisked away, the menu was brought back and I was asked if I wanted to order something else. My appetite was pretty badly smashed by the awful taste of the duck dish, but I did not want to be rude when the staff was being so nice, so I ordered a Mu Shu dish, since I thought they could not get that very far wrong. I erred. No flavor, course texture, thick tortilla-like pancakes. The only thing good about it was the hoisin sauce, which obviously came out of a bottle. UGH! We were promptly seated in a cozy dining room and a quite lovely Asian waitress took our drink and appetizer order. We started with the fried gyoza and a steamed dumplings of the chicken variety. Perfectly fried and steamed with flavorful fillings. The dipping sauce was a nice mix of soy and fish oil. For entrees we ordered the Mongolian chicken with pork fried rice and sesame chicken with pork fried rice. Bbq fried rice, perfectly cooked and flavorful pork nicely fried. The Mongolian chicken was full of nice white strips of chicken, loads of white onions with crispy rice vermicelli and a savory sauce. The sesame chicken, lightly fried pieces of white meat chicken with a flavor of sweet orange. Everything came out super fast and was hot and delicious. The food here is just OK. It's not bad, but it's nothing to write home about. The seats are some of the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in at a restaurant. The backs are so straight you almost feel like you have to lean forward so keep that in mind if you have back problems. My friend who was with me is vegan and ordered a vegetarian soup that was supposed to have no animal products in it. She asked the server about the ingredients to be certain. They brought her a soup with shrimp in it. The shrimp were at the bottom of the soup and weren't evident until after she had taken a few bites. Thankfully, she did not have a shellfish allergy! The server seemed completely unconcerned and unapologetic when we sent the soup back for containing meat. If you are vegan or have a food allergy, I would not advise eating here. read more

This is a nondescript Chinese restaurant sitting just 30 ft off Broadway. When you walk in it smells like a Chinese restaurant; a combination sweet and savory. Quality (2): The hot sour soup had very nice thickness with the "hot" sneaking up on me. Nice chunks of onion,carrot, and mushroom. The rangoons had a great crisp with very gooey and garlic laced cream cheese filling. The egg roll was forgettable but wasn't bad. Unfortunately the child's lacked flavor and left a feel of oil film behind. The fried rice was flavorless and had a stale/dry feel. The the headliner -- walnut shrimp -- really left me disappointed. The shrimp were definitely over cooked to a point they were slightly mushy. The sauce they were cooked in was overly mayonnaisey. I was thinking the walnuts would be either chipped or dusted on the shrimp, but instead they were candied and lying on the ring of plate. Combining them into a bite did not improve the experience. Service (5): very prompt and friendly. Ambiance (4): pretty much what you expect. Chinese theme. The can light were a little bright so much if you looked up you'd have to quickly squint. Value (3): Very affordable but the disappointing food brings the value down. Overall (2): I will not be coming back. There does not seem to be much upside. read more

I very disappointed in my delivered order tonight. Maybe they have a new chef but the pork fried rice was just barely an off white color very bland with very few pieces of pork. They sesame chicken was mushy and a smaller portion. The egg rolls were wrapped in so many layers of dough it was difficult to see any filling. I used to love their egg rolls with the different wrapping and full of flavor and filling. The Wonton soup was very good though. Have not been here for a couple of years. When I was there a few years ago it was dark and dingy. They had a filthy fish tank near the entrance and wasn't sure about the food. Upon recent recomation I returned. They have remodeled and it was bright and clean. The fish tank was gone too. I ordered a number of things and they were excellent.
