After a tumultuous shopping event at Sam's we opted to get a little lunch here this afternoon. They have recently upped the ambiance by replacing all the tables and chairs with beautiful a new set that fully complements the wall colors and art. Very relaxed. And the food and service? Just as good as before. A real Tucson gem!
I took my brother here recently and made another fan for the business! We got the bao buns and eggrolls to start with, both which were really yummy! The bao buns were so large and soft , I would definitely recommend! The string beans were just as I remember too. The dishes still had great portions and the leftovers were even better!
For signatures noodles, the fat ones are flat like tagliatelle but like 2" wide, Wow That's FAT! They overcooked them though and not the chewy bite we all desire. The oily chili sauce is delish, not sure how the tummy was going to fare, split into leftovers, I did just fine, phew! Time to visit again and tell them please don't overdo it on the boil! Kung Pao aok needed good hit of chili oil and soy for the hubby palate but it all went. Ok portion size, no leftovers, or brown rice.

This review is just for the food, as we ordered delivery at work. The soup I ordered was AMAZING!. I did not know what to expect, but what a delicious in depth melding of flavors, in a perfectly spiced broth This dish has fish fillets in a hot, sour, and spicy broth, packed with fermented mustard greens. The flavors and aroma are mouth watering. I would not say the spice was tongue-numbing (Sichuan peppercorns) , but it had heat for sure, and the sour bite at the end is just perfect. Also the portion is HUGE! The price was 24 bucks, and I can eat this for a few days!!
Tiny and nondescript Chinese restaurant serving flavorful takes on American classics, with some lesser-known and more authentic hits. What I love: Every single dish I've tried here is quite heavily seasoned. My favorite among them is the Mongolian Beef--served saucy and with white and green onions really piled on, as it should be. The dinner portions are huge, and the smaller lunch combos make for a great meal at an even better price. I endorse all the beef dishes here--their beef and brocolli is a contender for the best you can find around these parts. What I like: They are really not afraid to make things spicy! I tried the Chongqing Spicy Chicken--I see other patrons ordering it every time I'm here--and was impressed that it approached the limits of my spice tolerance. Loaded with Szechuan peppers (yes they make your mouth tingly) this dish might have more heat than the average person can handle What needs work: As much as I wanted to like my very photogenic plate of poultry, it was just too salty. Maybe I'm not eating enough rice alongside it, but it gets kind of excessive, and that's been the case for every chicken dish I've tried here. They are otherwise all so good, I'm willing to give them repeated tries! When I'm in the mood for Chinese, I'm less keen on these flashy spots inside suburban strip malls, and find myself gravitating toward Fatman every time. Not perfect, but better than most Chinese you can get in this city!

Ok. The place was crowded. Tons of to go orders. One woman doing everything. Service took forever and dishes came out one by one which all would have been good if the food was worth it. The general chows chicken was tough and leathery. Mongolian beef was the best we had. The spicy noodle dish needed something. Maybe a splash of mirin? Idk it was a long noodle not cut and it was okay. The inside is small with a few tables. A true hole in the wall. We won't be back but it's tolerable.
Got the MaPo Tofu again. It's got a rich chili sauce which I think is probably the best in Tucson. A nice special at lunch is 2 cha-su bao for $3.99.
Fatman Kitchen is an easy 5/5 for me. We came here with no expectations and were absolutely blown away by how good everything was. We ordered the Cold Garlic Cucumber, Sesame Balls, Mapo Tofu, Crispy Tofu with Green bean, and General Tso chicken. They brought each dish out separately which was fine for us because we ordered a lot of food for 2 people, so I felt our meal was nicely paced. The staff were very friendly, overall good service. The cucumber was spectacular, it had a great acidity and nice amount of heat. I LOVE cucumber in general, I order it every chance I get, and this is probably one of the top 3 cucumber dishes I have ever had in my life. Not much to say about the sesame balls, they came out hot and tasted great but I have never had a bad sesame ball, 6 felt like a good portion for 2 people. If I had to critique 1 dish it would be the Mapo Tofu; Mapo Tofu is my favorite Chinese dish, and this one did not seem to have much Szechuan Peppercorn to give the strong numbing flavor. I suppose not everyone likes that anyway, and the waitress indicated after we ate that we could have the heat for anything adjusted, so maybe next time I just mention it. Other than that it had incredible flavor and was done very well. I will definitely order it again. The Crispy Tofu with Green Bean was fantastic and I am very glad they had a picture of it on the wall because I would not have thought to order it otherwise. Everything was indeed very crispy! It came with a generous garnish of fried onion (and garlic?) The General Tso's chicken was great, very pleasant sweetness, perfectly scratched the itch for a sweet and saucy chicken. It left me impressed that this restaurant does both more traditional Chinese and more American Chinese so well. I like that I could go here with someone whose taste is for more American Chinese food and we could both get something we like. I am sort of a Fat man myself and we left totally full and with plenty of leftovers for what felt like a reasonable price. Never discount the unassuming Chinese restaurant in a strip mall.

That said, service was excellent, which made the overall experience more enjoyable.
We had 夫妻肺片 (cold meat appetizer)、重庆辣子鸡 (Chong Qing Spicy Chicken) and 西安油泼面 (Xi'an Fat Noodles). All were great! Sorry I didn't take a note of the English names from the menu.

Want a good mala-style meal to spice up your day? Fatman Kitchen is the place! The Xi'an Splashing Noodles were extra garlicky, the sour vegetable fish broth was wonderfully sour, and the Mapo Tofu had an extra kick of red pepper heat. My taste buds had quite a party! The prices are reasonable, and the service is absolutely wonderful. I especially enjoy supporting a family-run local restaurant that serves such bold and flavorful food. Fatman Kitchen has a lot of character, both in its dishes and its hospitality, and I'm always happy to come back for more. read more

First time here. We came based on the reviews and curiosity about the splashing noodles. The service was amazing. Our waiter was very helpful & friendly. We had the noodles, orange chicken and hot & sour soup. The orange chicken was delicious & hot. Not warm & chewy like other places. The soup had the perfect amount of heat. The splashing noodles were different & very tasty. An excellent meal. We will definitely return soon. read more

I went on a Saturday night, the restaurant was full and many customers were waiting for a table or to pick up an order. The server was friendly and polite and he was very fast managing all the tables alone! The place was clean but small, and surprisingly very busy. The menu had so many different types of food to try, I enjoyed the experience trying the eggplant dish and the cucumber salad and the chicken curry. read more

We had a nice relaxing, very large lunch! We purposely chose this restaurant because of the YELP reviews, and it did Not disappoint! I was looking for something a little more authentic than the regular Panda, and I was very satisfied with each dish!! Keeping in mind, I'm an "extra-sauce" kind of girl, lol, that is what I requested on each dish, along with a small charge for extra peanuts! absolutely worth it! The Sweet and sour was nicely flavored, not overly sweet either! Dumplings sauce, I could have swam in, it was divine! My son enjoyed his beef with mixed vegetables, and the shrimp in my Kung Pao were large, cleaned and nicely flavored! Sweet and Salty wings, were lightly battered and fried to perfection! The server, Chen, I believe was her name, she was adorably kind and overall we had a FABULOUS time!! I'm excited to return and try some new dishes, especially the Mongolian Beef!! read more
Amazing food every time. I have yet to dine in but every time I order online I get my food piping hot and always correct. The soups are delicious and my fav is the garlic eggplant. They have some of the best fried rice also. I ask for extra spice and they don't shy from the heat. One of the best Chinese in Tucson. I have had the salty and spicy tofu but I believe it would be better in store. I love their eggrolls as well. read more

From the moment I walked in I was greeted very nicely by my server. The ambiance was amazing, when I went in there was various open tables but it got a little crowded as more people came in but was no bother to me. Now the food was amazing!!!! It came out hot and fresh you can see the steam on the pictures, not too hot where I burned my mouth while eating, it was the perfect temperature. The flavor was so good im excited to try more from their menu!:) read more

The food here was some of the best Chinese food we have ever had. I highly recommend the Splashing Noodles and the Fish in black bean sauce. My wife really liked the sesame chicken. I normally avoid sweeter flavors like sesame chicken but I have to admit it was good and not overly sweet. The flavors of everything there were really well balanced. The staff was very friendly and the service was very efficient. On the other end of things, my wife has a sensitive stomach and had no issues here. The ambiance may not be that of a 4 or 5 star restaurant but the food more than makes up for it! Highly recommend. read more

I've been looking for good Chinese food in Tucson for years and I think I've finally found my new favorite spot! My friend recommended Fatman Kitchen which was a blessing to my taste buds. I tried the spicy chicken wings, splashing noodle, and hot and sour soup, and everything was so flavorful and delicious--I couldn't stop eating. It was seriously that good! The place gets busy during dinner, so it's a good idea to show up early if you want quicker service. Things were a little slow when I went, but honestly, the food was worth the wait. read more

Looking for actually good Chinese food in Tucson? Congrats you finally found it! Let me tell you, the outside does not even reflect the gem that is inside. They have some traditional Chinese dim sum options along with your go to Chinese food to pair. When I saw this older man who obviously worked there come in from the outside with a bag of FRESH green beans I knew I was in for a treat. Honestly everything is freshly made I could tell right of the bat with the quality of the food. They pay attention to detail with sauces as well, my husband usually gets a sesame chicken and myself a generally I get a orange chicken or general tso which some places you can tell they use the same sauce and they do not. The flavor for both dishes were amazing and I didn't have one complaint. The service was ok.. they did have a help wanted sign in the front but for obvious reasons we dined in and there was one girl working the entire room which was impressive honestly so I didn't expect amazing service but we didn't wait long at all. The crab Rangoons sweet and sour sauce is definitely made in house. Overall the quality and flavor are OUTSTANDING this is the best Chinese food in Tucson. read more

My bf and I have been wanting to try this place out and finally made it here for some lunch. There was 1 other table when we arrived and we were seated quickly. We ordered 5 dishes to try and everything was so delicious. I think the walnut shrimp we ordered is some of the best I've ever had. If you like pickled garlic cucumbers, theirs are delicious! It was the perfect app to open up the stomach for all the yummy food. Overall, great place with great food. They also have lunch specials until 3pm! read more
Great food. Many people coming in for takeout. Next time that's our takeout place. I ordered the beef with broccoli. Honestly, it was the beast I've had since I can recall. Yummy Galore! We had this food delivered and let me tell you it was still hot when we received it. I can tell they make their food fresh! The lo mein is a def must try and the beef braised noodle soup was superb with a little spicy kick! If you're in the area I would def recommend this spot. Thank me later ;) read more

It's kinda on the small side for space so it can be a little crowded at times, but it's well worth it. The service is great! Polite and attentive crew! Food was delicious! Seasoned just right! Best Egg Flower Soup I have ever tasted! I didn't even add soy sauce. read more
Fatman's Chinese is one of our new favorites. The restaurant is clean with seating for different parties. The prices and quality of food is what really stands out. While it has some more traditional American style Chinese, it also has some more dishes that remind us of more authentic Chinese dishes. Regardless of the style, the food is fantastic. The flavors are complex with distinct flavor. Mongolian tastes Mongolian, Xi'an tastes like Xi'an, and Sichuan tastes like Sichuan. Too often American style Chinese all tastes the same regardless of the region of the dish, but here each style is distinct. In addition to the flavor, the quality and quality of the meat, vegetables and noodles is wonderful. We have not found a dish we did not love. For me in particular, I love spicy food and hot and sour soup is a comfort food. The hot and sour soup here is some of the best I have had. The level of pepper spice is perfect, the broth is deep and rich, and it is perfectly balance with a sour edge. If you are looking for some of the best American style Chinese that has more authentic Chinese touches, we highly recommend Fatman's! read more

Is the restaurant open for inside dining yet, or only take out? Also, although no liquor license, are we permitted to BYOB like other restaurants which don't have liquor licenses?
Had lunch inside the restaurant on April 15, 2022. I do not know about bringing your own liquor into this establishment.
Y do they charge extra for rice? It's included @virtually all Chinese restaurants, in my experience.
No rice came with my takeout order so I suppose they do.
