One of the best Chinese restaurants I've had in a long time they make everything fresh and it comes out fast

Thanks to all the very positive Yelp reviews about this restaurant, I went this evening. One of the best tests of a good Chinese meal is the egg drop soup test. They passed with flying colors! My order was amazingly flavorful and incredibly spicy; as they said it would be. I didn't enjoy it as much due to the heat, but I cannot complain because I was warned. It was an awesome experience. The service was great, and while there was only one other table eating in, they had a steady flow of food going out the door for takeout and meal delivery. Will absolutely go back and try some other slightly less spicy stuff. read more

As someone who has lived a good amount of time in China, I have been absolutely blown away by the quality of Chinese food found in Tucson. I would never had guessed to find so many options here and Fatman Kitchen is no exception. The menu is so extensive that you might have a hard time choosing but I wasn't disappointed in any of the dishes we ordered and I expect all of the other dishes would have been similar. ***Be warned, this is authentic Chinese food; so don't go in expecting to get Panda Express type of food. The KungPao Chicken 宫保鸡丁 (which is a local specialty dish of the Sichuan province in China) was so tasty. Crispy chicken with all of the spicy sweetness required of KungPow chicken. This dish here is definitely better than some of the KungPao dishes I've had in China. The eggplant was also cooked to perfect; so many places leave it drenched in too much sauce but you won't find that here; so satisfied by the quality of this food. Was excited to try Chinese food in Tuscon but had higher hopes. We ordered three dishes to share between two people and had leftovers for 1.5 more meals after (decently large portion sizes). Pita bread soaked in lamb soup: first time trying this dish. Was enjoyable, had nothing to compare it to so of the dishes I liked this one the most. Its noted as very spicy on the menu but there isn't much spice at all. Occasional stragglers of thin clear noodles which felt a bit out of place considering the trace amount in the dish. Lamb was good. Xian oil noodles had an odd texture. Typically these noodles are hand pulled and taste pretty bouncy. These noodles had more of a dumpling skin thickness and texture so we weren't impressed. Not much oil in the dish. Mongolian beef dish: flavor was nice but the meat was very soft. It's been 4 years since friend and I were here last time. We got there at noon, which is when they open. The place has had some updates with (glass top) grills on most of the tables. Otherwise, pretty much the same decor. We were waited on immediately. Our server was knowledgable and friendly. In looking at the menu, it's changed quite a bit. Now it's standard Chinese fare; the unusual dishes/food are gone. Friend ordered Kung Pao Shrimp; I ordered Mongolian Chicken (extra spicy) and an order of Potstickers. The Potstickers came and were unusual in that they seemed to be baked, not fried. They were really good regardless. We were barely done with the Potstickers when our food arrived. Friend had a lot of hot chilis in hers; I had none. I had asked for chili sauce on the side so I was able to add heat to the dish. Both of us really liked the food, but we had been hoping for something more non-traditional (to us) food. The disturbing part was at the end of our meal, I noticed that our table was dirty. It had not been cleaned from the previous day. I'm giving them 4 stars for good food, 3 stars for the dirty table. Having going here sight unseen, solely based on other Yelp reviews, I'm satisfied! I got shrimp fried rice (one size) $13 is excessive in my opinion but the shrimp are huge! They were a bit bland but the rice was great! I actually think the soy sauce I added was unnecessary. I also ordered chicken egg rolls, two for $7 and there were just ok, then had a good crisp on them. Finally made it to Fatman last week, food was great and reasonably priced, service was good, facilities were acceptable as far as I'm concerned, great for a Chinese food date night. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile. My fellow Yelpers did not disappoint as far as the food. I was so hungry, you got partially eaten food pics. I can see why they named the dish "splashing noodle." Don't wear anything white because it splatters everywhere. It was really good and seems to be a popular item from the takeout orders too. The Chongqing Chicken and salty fried wings were also really good. Now for the downside, they need additional staff, between constant phones ringing with takeout orders as well as dine-in customers the wait was very very long. So if you dine-in, be prepared to wait. Also, the menu stated entree orders (not noodles) includes rice and we didn't get rice with one our orange chicken entree. Super delicious food, and super nice service. My family and had an early dinner here, and it was quiet and had so many many options that it was hard to choose. We ordered the custard and steamed BBQ pork buns, Szechuan Fried tofu, Orange Chicken, and House Fried Rice. Everything was delicious and we were so happy with our choices. Amazing delicious food that I can't rave about enough. The beef noodle soup defies explanation it's so good. The pork bao are fire. The green bean stir fry is a symphony of garlic and sauces. Service was fast. We ordered a lot but they were sure to double check my order before I left (without even being asked) to make sure it was right before I left. Another great find for authentic chinese food in Tucson. Bit of a hole in the wall spot, but the food was pretty good (though it can be on the oily side). Lamb was super tender and could definitely taste the cumin. Eggplant nicely seasoned & soft. Kung pao chicken had a light kick (which is how it should be). I also highly enjoyed the xian oil splashing noodles - loved how long, wide, and chewy the noodles were. The oil/sauce coating the noodles was delicious and not at all spicy despite looking like it would be (there's extra hot oil at the store for you to add if you want an extra kick). Another classic chinese dish that I recommend is the tomato and egg dish (very much a nostalgic dish from childhood for me) - great balance of sweet & savory (tomatoes not sour at all). read more

My boyfriend and I love fatman. I will say some dishes are a bit salty for my taste the food is very good and addicting. We love the general tso's chicken as it's less sweet than the orange chicken, although we love the orange chicken too. Other favorites include lo mein, Mongolian beef and vegetarian trio. The restaurant was open for pick up, and ordering was easy. Our food was ready quickly and was hot & fresh. All the food was good and I enjoyed it, but the flavor didn't blow me away. One of my favorite dishes is a hot & sour soup and this one was more of just a sour taste (not in a bad way, just not full flavor soup) and the other dishes were tasty enough to satisfy my hunger, but I just wish that there was more flavor to them. It was worth a try, and some people may really enjoy it, but I personally found it a bit too bland for my taste. Very delicious splashing noodles but wish there was meat I love the texture and the fun tasting experience I had from splashing noodles. This is my first time eating it and will definitely come back for this. My dish was basically vegetarian food because I detected no meat. This dish would go great with minced pork, absolutely an excellent combination and it would bring more favoritism over here. My friend ordered No 8 and although he enjoyed the tingling feeling that the szechuan chili brought, the soup was not his favorite. It was too oily. Overall the service was great but I hope next time they look at corner tables because our water cups finished so quickly and they didn't pay attention. Very disappointed with the quality of the food. We ordered the beef brisket noodle soup, the broth had no flavor, it was just salty with tiny bits of brisket. The combo fried rice was awful, it had no taste. The xian oil splashing noodles was the same. They said the order would be ready in 10 minutes and now I can see why. When I heard house-made noodles, it was an automatic "pick-up-the-keys and head on out" for me. Fatman Kitchen also provides another incentive as the pioneer for Shaanxi cuisine in Tucson. Food 4/5: I have been here 3X now and tried the braised beef brisket soup and the Xian splashing oil noodles. I enjoyed the beef brisket soup much more than the Xian noodles. I didn't like how the Xian noodles had excess raw garlic and no meat. The noodles were delicious and cooked al dente, but they were heavy, slippery, and hard to eat with chopsticks. However, I will continue ordering this dish because it is a unique rarity in Tucson. Because the noodles lacked meat, I tried to order some meat dumplings to go with it; they do not serve dumplings here, unfortunately. I was surprised that a restaurant that makes their own noodle dough wouldn't also make dumpling wraps. Atmosphere/Vibe 3/5: There is nothing special or eye-catching about the decor. The location of the restaurant is a bit sketchy. Be aware that this restaurant is all about the food. Price 3/5: I found the pricing is typical of what you pay for Chinese food here in town. Service/Cleanliness 3/5: Water glass is empty for most of my visit. When you do get lucky enough to land a refill, there is no ice and the water is warm. I think Fatman Kitchen has potential. They need a lot of work on the customer service end, hope they can hire some more staff soon. I really enjoyed the Grilled cooked chicken wings, not greasy, very crispy and spicy with plenty of fresh vegetables. The dishes we ordered with thicker sauces were way too sweet for everyone at our table. We didn't end up eating any of the eggplant after we each tried a bite, so sweet and mushy. The Kung Pao Chicken was also really sweet and syrupy. The fried noodles were fresh and tender. I also enjoyed the cumin lamb dish, if you don't enjoy mutton, might not be your dish. I think the noodle dishes are the stars of the show here! Most of my table was trying to keep it low carb, so unfortunately we did not order a lot of noodles. I won't be returning to dine in right away, but will give them another try later this year. I may have to order some of those wings as take out soon though! read more

Ordered delivery through a third party app. I ordered the xian splashing noodles and the braised beef noodle soup with wheat noodles. I am actually in love with this place. You also know it's good when your Asian friends know exactly the place you're talking about, even though you just describe the general location that the restaurant is at. The flavors were all very robust, absolutely delicious, and it was impossible to exert self-control and portion control. The beef braised soup reheated well as a leftover. The oil noodles were not overly spicy, and this is coming from someone who has a low spice tolerance. I also love the shredded potatoes, which is a good, vinagery side dish. The potatoes also had some spice to it which made it delicious; I think it's definitely a dish worth trying. You get a sizable portion and you might just feel like having that as your entire meal, especially since it comes with a side of rice. Do keep in mind, the dishes overall are fairly oily, but it was fine when eating with rice to absorb the oil. I will definitely order from here again! read more
