The reviews painted a different picture than what I saw when visiting. I was able to get seated at a booth for lunch right away. With taxes and tip, lunch was around $15 and that's without a soft drink. While they did have sushi, there weren't as many steam tables and dishes as I would have expected. The did have medium size peel your own shrimp with cocktail sauce on the side. They had spring rolls and eggrolls, but they were very bland. The only cooked shrimp they had on the buffet were breaded outside the shell or smaller shrimp in a hot sauce. There were lo mein noodles which were good. Fried rice was bland. I couldn't find any rice noodles. My server/attendant was good and was very prompt at clearing the table between plates. read more

This has got to be one of the worst buffets I've ever eaten at. My impression from outside the building already concerned me. However, stepping into the restaurant and talking to the kid at the counter with an unpleasant looking face. I smelled something repulsive, like someone crapped their pants. That was a sign for me to leave, but it was a long drive here so I thought I'd give it a benefit of a doubt... big mistake. The sushi was under average and the selections was not impressive at all. I won't comment all the food, but the majority of it is terrible in taste and quality. This goes for the seafood crab, terrible quality. I will never step foot in this restaurant again and would not recommend it to anyone. I do see some fake reviews for this restaurant with 5 stars, so beware. read more

The price for dinner lunch was 12.60 not bad, at least 70% of the food was good, I wouldn't recommend the French fries, hot spicy soup, and one of the breaded chicken. Fried rice need more flavor. Came in about 7:15 on a Tuesday. Last one in and maybe 5 or 6 other parties eating. Maybe 20 hot trays and 20 cold plus 2 soup kettles. Soups was fair. I like to load up on steamed veggies but only 3 trays from which to choose, broccoli beef, bean sprouts and whole sautéed mushrooms. Fried chicken was good, other hot proteins were OK. Several hot trays had American fair like pizza and French fries. Dinner buffet was 14.99, with a drink and tax - close to $20. The interior is run down, the seats in the booths had duct taped rips and several ceiling panels were water damaged or missing. The hot trays were hot and cleanliness was adequate: no food safety issues observed. I left at 7:45 and they were breaking down, cleaning up and the sign on the door had been flipped to 'Closed". That means the 8 PM posted closing time means everybody out, so arrive 40 minutes before closing at the latest. I hate to post this rating because I love a good Chinese buffet and the location is very convenient for me. read more

I am not a huge fan of these types of buffets, simply because I've had such poor luck in Tucson. I am from southern California where you can find some amazing Asian-style buffets. Here? Not so much. But of all the locations I have tried in Tucson, I must say that despite its limitations Grand Buffet is the best. I have been three times. For the most part, the place is tidy and is rarely too, too busy. Sure, the furniture is somewhat worn in places, but the staff tend to keep the buffet line and the sushi bar tidy. That's huge right there. How many times have you been to a buffet and found slop on the tables, on the floors, on the walls, on the ceiling! So kudos there. One little annoyance: The servers take your drink orders before you are able to even sit down. This is one of my own pet peeves. It's always awkward standing in the middle of the floor right in front of your table as all parties are calling out their drink orders. On to the food selections. Prices as of Oct. 2012 are: Monday through Saturday for the lunch buffet (11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) $7.25 for adults and about $3.60 for kids (defined as those between the ages of 3 and 10). There is a brunch buffet that is slightly more expensive that runs 3:30 to 4 p.m. No kidding. That's what it says on the menu. The dinner buffet, from 4 to 9 p.m., will run just under $10 for adults and nearly $5 for kids. And, apparently, they offer an all day dinner buffet on Sundays and holidays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant also offers a carry out buffet based on the pound. If you are a serious carnivore, this is the place for you! It's beef, fish and pork for days! Unfortunately, the restaurant does not seem to rotate its selections at all, or at least that is what I've observed on the few trips I have made. It's always the generic staples: beef and broccoli, pork ribs, egg drop soup, fried wontons, chicken wings, french fries, pizza, pepper steak beef and salmon in what appears to be some sort of butter sauce. Bummer. I'm always going for the vegetables. I love their stir fry bean sprouts. The dish is actually quite nice and light. But aside from picking the broccoli out of the beef and broccoli, that's about it for decent vegetable dishes, though you can order vegetarian options from the menu. The sushi is just OK. The fish always seems pretty fresh, but they love to offer rolls that have been deep fried with tons of cream cheese. I know some folks love that stuff -- so this is the place for you -- but I'm not down for it. I usually go with the nigiri and, if you can get it right as the sushi chef is making it, it's not bad for a buffet. As for the menu, it's quite extensive, and most dishes will run you between $6.50 and $10. Among them: moo shu, fried rice, low mein, chop suey, egg foo young, chicken in hot garlic sauce, kung pao chicken, double fried pork, beef with scallops, shrimp with lobster sauce and almond chicken are among them. The more expensive house specials include the combination pan-fried noodles, orange chicken (which I found not to be very orange flavored at all), sesame chicken, black bean mussels, orange beef and an assortment of shrimp, beef, chicken, roast pork and vegetables in a house special sauce. As a general rule I don't do buffet restaurants for the simple reason I feel like a pig at the troff. The being said I am happy to say Grand Buffet is quite good the kitchen employees were very quick I never saw an empty container and surprisingly nearly all the food was fairly tasty. The waitress was excellent never allowing my glass to run low nor our table to fill with plates. The only thing that was really lacking in my opinion was atmosphere. Part of the dining experience is the setting I love culture but it was very plain. The booths make me feel like an animal in a pin also. Still all things considered a good place to eat. read more

Just had lunch and was surprised how empty the place was on a Saturday. Now, I know why - the food was cold and the hot tea was only luke warm! They recently had failed their last Health Dept. inspection and I think I remember it took them 2 subsequent follow-up inspections to finally pass. I recall one of the inspection comments in the newspaper had to do with the food not meeting the required temperature. I guess they haven't learned their lesson, yet! If the food was hot, it would've been good as it has been in the past. The only bright spot was the good service. It's too bad, this place used to be good! Summary: We came at 2:30 and i was expecting bad left over food. To my surprise, there were still fresh hot food coming from the kitchen when they close lunch buffet at 3:30pm. Kudos for that. Buffet for 7.99 during weekdays. Kids were like several dollars. The food were good and lots of option. Sushi rolls - I would skip that Orange Chicken = Very good. My tip was yuck that's because as we were sitting there eating our dinner there was a young man who works for the restaurant sitting at the table right behind us wrapping silverware and he took time out to scroll through his cell phone with one hand while he use the other hand to generously pick his nose and when he was all done picking and flicking he wiped his hands on his clothes and finished wrapping the silver. I'm convinced my wife drags me here so I'll appreciate her cooking even more. This is without doubt the worst buffet food in Tucson. Bland, fatty, greasy, sameness pervades everything on the menu... almost. The white rice and the egg rolls are tolerable. The orange chicken has a rind more than a crust. The beef in the broccoli beef is some kind of gelatinous ribbons that do not feel good in the mouth. The pork with green onion has what can only be old, old, old vegetables that defy chewing. And don't get me started on the Japanese chicken. There's no sauce in the world that can cover up that monstrous bird. Bland spicy chicken should be an oxymoron... but not here. Little bits of chicken fat in a cayenne pepper dusting. And I'll be picking and flossing the stringy skewered chicken from between my teeth for an hour. How does one piece of chicken manage to insert itself between EVERY tooth?!? It actually feels like broken off pieces of floss! I wish I could say I was exaggerating or that this is a joke post... For Christmas lunch, My husband and I had take out from Grand Buffet. I had shrimp with vegetables and my husband had Egg Fu Yung with egg rolls. The meal was delicious! The shrimp was cooked just right and the many vegetables were also. I could have died and gone to heaven just for the mushrooms! The Egg etc was very good and the sauce could stand alone as a yummy soup. I got the large size shrimp and will have leftovers for 2 more meals- making the ~ 23.00 a real bargain! This used to be our go to place for the family, however the last two times we have eaten here the food was barely edible and cold. The service is absolutely horrible. Today my wife had to flag down the server for another table of an elderly couple was seated and never had a drink order taken, was not given silverware or napkins. The only reason the server ever showed is if we flagged her down. On top of poor quality food and service, everything was dirty and felt sticky and greasy. The carpet under and around our table hadn't been vacuumed in days, and the condiment bottles hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long.
