This is a great option downtown for a fast, casual lunch or a pre-show dinner where you want to be sure to be out in time for curtain. There are lots of options for ramen, curry, and appetizers, as well as some limited sushi options. I've tried the Half Sea Tonkatsu and the Dumpling Ramen, both of which are very good. I really like that for the Dumpling Ramen, you can select from veggie, chicken, or pork gyoza. The serving portions are solid, with lots of protein and noodles. The broth is rich, and there's chili oil on every table to make yours as spicy as you'd like. It's counter service with very few frills, so the ambiance is nothing special, but it's a good option for delicious ramen when you don't have a ton of time. read more

I'm sorry but the ramen was extremely disappointing. The pork was so dense and the broth fell flat. Even adding extra chili oil couldn't save it... Maybe try the udon or a curry, the tonkatsu was just not good. The inside was very clean and spacious and the service was fine. I'm sure there are other spots in Tucson to go to for better ramen. read more

Cozy ramen spot that does a decent bowl bowl of tonkatsu, but not much beyond that. What I loved: charming decor, quick counter services, and good prices make this a must-see for noodle lovers. What needs work: I don't think they can do anything else very well. I tried the curry, and it was so salty it was near inedible. The bao buns are gummy. The Vegas roll, on the rare occasion they actually had it, was one of the worst I ever had (must have been 90% rice). I could go on, but everything aside from ramen was mid at best. Still though, it might be worth a visit. read more

I had dinner here yesterday with a friend. It was fairly empty, so service was pretty fast. (It's a counter-service place, half-restaurant, half-bar, with a forgettable functional ambiance.) I ordered the Yakisoba Katsu Noodles with pork ($14.50), medium-spicy. The breaded pork and noodles were good, but I didn't care for the sauce (it wasn't too spicy, but the flavor didn't appeal to me.) It's convenient to the Fox Theatre a few doors down. There's not much reason to come here other than that. read more

I stumbled upon this place while I was walking around the area looking for a spot to eat. I'm glad I found this place because the veggie ramen was just what I needed on an empty stomach. I'm very partial about how noodles are cooked, but I loved the chewy texture and the rich flavors of the soup. Mediocre flavors that are redeemed by lots of ingredients/toppings and $10 Wednesday pricing. Overall the pork belly was tasty! I also appreciate how the ramen included an egg. The broth flavor wasn't bad but it tasted a bit one dimensional and tasted like it was made from powder. The noodles were ok, I prefer my ramen noodles to be a bit thicker. However the Wednesday $10 special pricing makes up for some of the shortcomings. read more

This is a great little gem in downtown Tucson right across from the courthouse and on the streetcar line. I ordered Thai Curry with pork and dumplings. I got spice level 6. I love spicy food but also like to be able to taste my food. Level 6 was perfect. There's inside seating and self serve drinks or a small patio on the sidewalk. I sat outside because it was a beautiful day. Great atmosphere and scenery. Highly recommended. read more

After reading the good reviews on Yelp, I decided to go to this ramen place. I ordered Tonkotsu ramen - which was okay. Not bad but definitely not the best. I prefer thicker broth. If you like lighter broth with Tonkotsu flavor, you would probably like it. The restaurant is spacious and seems clean. Friendly and fast service. As the lunch time came, it got busy! Cool lil ramen shop on Congress. Has some anime artwork. Type of restaurant where you order your food pay for your meal and then wait for it. It took some time I'd say like 15-20min and it wasn't too too busy. There was one table of 4-5 people. The katsu buns comes with two buns when you place one order. The breading is smaller than the actual pork katsu like dang I think it was good but the pork katsu was hard to chew in some places. Making it rough to eat. Tonkatsu ramen here was the best ramen we had in a very long time. The broth to the noodles and toppings were absolutely perfect. We contemplated ordering another bowl but decided to wait until next visit. The chicken katsu curry was delicious too. It was breast meat too. The ramen here is delicious! Lots of toppings and flavor. When you walk in you have to go to the countertop to order and pay up front then they bring the food to you. You aren't charged for fountain drink, the cups on the counter for you to get your own drink. They do a good job at making variety of ramen, they also have different noodles that come with the ramen. I have not been to the other JA location, but the food is great here. I would say that the price point is pretty high here for the curry dish that I ordered. I paid about $16-$18 with tips included. You order at the register, but the waiters bring you the food and clean up after you. I recall the other items being around that price, more or less. The fried curry fish dish that I ordered was a flavor punch, with a perfect fry and moist interior served with rice. Quite a lot of curry. You can also customize your spice level from 1-10 hotness. I believe I tried a 3 or 5 and found it tolerable. The decor was unique including certain ramen posters with an anime theme. read more

Fun place for Ramen. Great decor and the Ramen really surprised me! I've had some of the best Ramen's in NYC as well as SF from coast to coast. The broth here is AMAZING! I ordered the Spicy Miso Dumpling which also comes in a vegan/ ovo-vegetarian option ( if you 86 the egg) by swapping to vegetable broth and veggie dumplings. The portions are huge so come hungry! Stop by to try this newly open location. The food is as good as at the original location. The service is also very good. It's not as busy, maybe because we come at lunchtime on Saturday. They don't have a private parking lot, so we need to find a parking spot around the restaurant. read more

This is nice clean little spot downtown. I ordered a jalapeño matcha margarita and the curry ramen. You order at the front cashier and they'll bring the food to your table. Everyone is really nice and the location was quiet during happy hour. I really liked the width of the noodles but the ramen bowl as a whole was just okay. Everyone in our household gets to pick a restaurant for their birthday. It was my daughter's turn and she picked Ja Ramen Curry. She used to attend high school downtown and would occasionally eat at Ja for lunch. My son has also eaten at Ja but this was a new restaurant for my husband and I. We all ordered different dishes and I won't speak for everyone's food but I ordered the Chicken Yakisoba Katsu noodles because I was in the mood for dry noodles. I absolutely love the crunch of Katsu and Ja did not disappoint. Everyone else loved their meals too. Both kids also ordered Taiyaki for dessert and gave me a bite to taste. Delicious! Ever since moving to Southwest Arizona, we've been looking for a good place with amazing ramen. We found this restaurant 3 hours away while small getaway to a city we've never been to. The decor and restaurant is nice & clean. The service was great. I was very disappointed in the Tonkotsu ramen it was like warm and the flavor tasted bland. The Spicy pork curry was decent but the curry itself was so watery. The sushi roll was also ok had too much rice and they only had the one sushi roll on the menu. I got the spicy red miso, small chicken garlic parm, and my husband got the vegan ramen. All were extremely flavorful and fresh tasting and came out quickly. They have a good selection of pre bottled drinks as well to complement the dishes. The red miso definitely satisfied my spicy tastes if you are the type of person who can eat a bag of hot Cheetos without blinking you'll be fine but if you're sensitive to spice you might want to skip that option. On the menu they do have chili peppers next to the items to indicate the spice level. The portions are BIG and definitely worth it. They come in the cutest bowels and have an excellent packing system of the broth is separate from the noodles and other items if you're getting it to go. The actual restaurant is quirky for sure with Easter eggs hidden and anime and Pokémon around the restaurant. This is DEFINITELY better than Obon and Raijen hands down. This is my new favorite ramen spot!

Even better, the menu is laid out in a way that it is easy to understand: gluten-free options, allergies, and spice level. The service was great. All though it isn't a "full" sit-down restaurant, everybody there seemed to know the menu well and was happy to be there. As a Cantonese person, it was nice hearing my language being spoken in the kitchen. The restaurant itself was immaculately clean and very modern. We came during early dinner time so the parking lot was near empty and easy to park. Overall, if you've never had Southern Chinese food or are looking for something more authentic than classic Chinese takeaway, definitely check out this location. I didn't see the restaurant itself yet, but after this experience, visiting is officially on the to-do. We started with the takoyaki balls, which were an absolute standout. I'm not an expert on how they're made, but I did notice pieces of octopus inside, and wow so good. The sauce on top is an explosion of flavor: rich, savory, slightly sweet, and totally addictive. I could eat these every time and never get bored. Next, we built our own Tachi burrito bowl and this is where Taichi really shines. The customization options are next-level. You can choose white rice, brown rice, no rice, and even a greens base. Then you get three proteins yes, three. Options include tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, spicy salmon, shrimp, tofu, crab meat, and chicken. From there, it's toppings galore: avocado, cucumbers, red onions, cherry tomatoes, jalapeños, mango, masago, seaweed salad, and crunchy add-ons like fried garlic or fried onions. The variety alone deserves applause. And then... the sauces. This is where you can really get creative. Spicy mayo, poke sauce, chili hot sauce, eel sauce, mango sauce, ponzu, Thai sweet chili, Thousand Island, wasabi the list goes on.
