This is definitely the kind of shop that takes shortcuts where they can (such as using premade stocks, frozen takoyaki, frozen gyoza, etc.) which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it's nice to be able to just quell a ramen craving without having to pay an arm and a leg for it; however, if you're looking for *amazing* ramen, this probably isn't the right place. I'm seriously still thinking about this ramen. I ordered the Kiwami Shiro, which comes with scallions, bamboo shoots, a seasoned egg, ground/shredded pork, pork chashu, and straight noodles -- it's also supposed to have mushrooms (my favorite), but I think they forgot them. Normally, that would knock a star off for me, but this ramen was so good I didn't even notice until after I finished. That's how fire it was. The portion was huge, super filling, and only $15.45 before tax -- for the quality and how stacked the bowl was, that's a steal. Everything was flavorful, rich, and perfectly balanced. The broth was amazing, and the whole bowl just looked beautiful -- I wish I took a picture, but I was too excited to eat. The drive-through setup is super smooth and fast. The guy taking our order was really kind and quick, and the whole experience was just easy and enjoyable. I'm already planning to go back and try the spicy one next time. Service was attentive and quick. The ramen broth was silky and rich. The noodles were soft and a little chewy, which I feel is the perfect ramen consistency. The tempura was not oily and had a good crunch. I'm a huge fan of panko breading and the tempura lived up to my expectations. That said, the server did accept the service delay and DID NOT CHARGE US for the dinner. My favourite veggie ramen in town. I like to get the wavy ramen noodles sometimes( egg free) instead of the kale noodles (wheat free and egg free) and ask for the tofu to be fried. Kiwami ramen is an excellent choice for a quick, affordable, delicious meal in Tucson. I was really happy to see multiple options for vegans and opted for the veggie guoza and veggie ramen. The gyoza was nice and crispy with a nice mix of meaty and vegetable ingredients. Not sure if it was tofu or a faux meat inside, but it tasted great either way. The veggie ramen comes with kale noodles, but unless you have a bad relationship with carbs, would recommend ordering with the wavy ramen noodles as a substitute. The broth they use is delicious, which was a nice relief from the usual bland dashi or overly spicy vegan broths other places tend to offer. There is a nice balance of cabbage, tofu, and broccoli florets in the soup, not your typical ramen ingredients, but they worked really well. I'll definitely be back in the future. read more

I unfortunately have to update my review and drop one star off...I've always liked Kiwami, the ramen, the appetizers, and poke bowls were really good here. Recently, they added teriyaki/hibachi options as well as Japanese curry rice dishes. I have not tried the curry yet but tried the chicken teriyaki and it was not good. It took 45 minutes waiting for this dish and the result was rubbery chicken, salty fried rice, and oily, salty veggies. The staff are really nice and took this dish off our bill because of the wait, but maybe they need to re-evaluate and take the teriyaki/hibachi (shrimp, chicken, and beef) completely off the menu. It's just not worth it. It's a shame because an unpleasant meal like this one can completely tarnish their reputation especially since the ramen here is probably one of the best in town...maybe the restaurant should just focus on that. read more

I had been craving a bowl of good ramen. I mean not the instant kind you get at the store. I mean, the hearty, homemade noodles with a ramen egg and everything! Coming from the Phoenix area, I had so many to choose from up there. When I moved here to Tucson, I found there are few and far between when it comes to GOOD, real ramen places. The first place I intended on going to closed earlier than the others. Thankfully, I saw that Kiwami had good ratings and it says they closed at 9:30. They weren't far from where my daughter and I were shopping that night, so we thought we'd give Kiwami a whirl. We were not disappointed! Immediately upon entering, we were greeted and swiftly sat. We were given a choice where we'd like to sit. Unfortunately, when we got there, we had about ten minutes to order hot food before they were going to close up. Having to make our choices quickly, I chose the black garlic ramen with no scallions and a Coke. My daughter ordered a canned strawberry milk and a side of rice with soy sauce. It was surprising to me that I got my ramen first before my daughter received a side of rice. I wanted my daughter to dig in first before I did. So, I felt guilty that I had food and that my daughter's scoop of rice was taking a strangely long time. The fried calamari came out as well before my daughter's rice did. I waited for her to get her rice before digging in. She's five, so I didn't want her to get upset that I'd be eating without her. My food smelled great and looked good while we both waited. Once everything was out, we were so happy with the flavor of everything. It was my daughter's first ever strawberry milk and she loved it! She ate all of her rice and I ate all of my ramen. The ramen egg was so flavorful! The staff was very attentive. Even some of the guys behind the counter kept an eye on my daughter and I and were quick to help when I asked if it would be okay to order another bowl of the same ramen for my mom working at the hospital nearby. Even though they had begun to close, the friendly staff at the ramen bar said they could get me a bowl to-go, no problem! I was able to save a few pieces of calamari for my mom as well. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. I kept thinking of things to add to my mom's meal like extra calamari sauce, lime or lemon, and a box for the calamari. Even though I kept asking for one thing after another, they didn't seem upset or annoyed. The restaurant was very clean, organized, and modern. It has a smaller dining area with a few booths and a large table for big groups. Lots of seating is available on their patio as well. The music wasn't too loud and they were playing some 90's music, of which I enjoyed while I ate. Very happy with our experience, I thanked all of the staff as they were closing up. I believe they really close at 9 PM and not 9:30 like the site I saw said because they began cleaning and closing up shop at 9. My only issue was the wait time on my little kid's side of rice. Besides that, it would've been a perfect review! I highly recommend this place for your next ramen craving. read more

I decided to try this place for lunch. The place is limited with seating: four small tables and one large table inside and six patio tables with a porch overhang outside. I ordered the spicy edamame, side of white rice, and spicy curry tonkotsu. To drink was a cocoa cola. The spicy edamame wasn't spicy and tasted salty. It didn't seem fresh as when you eat it the outer shell was not crispy. (If you have eaten edamame you know what I mean). The white rice was dry and tasted the same way it looked. The spicy curry was a hit and a miss. The noodles were boiled perfect, but after that the boiled egg was cold and the pork char siu was burnt. The burnt pork took over the dishes makeup. When I took a sip of the juice I tasted burnt and when I went in for a bite I smelt the burnt pork. The coke was flat and the waiter never came back to ask if everything was to satisfaction. Plus I guess you don't get refills because I never got asked if I needed one. I would have asked for a retry on the coke. First impressions for me are lasting and I won't try this place again. I hope if you try it you get better luck than I had. I would give it 2.5 stars but I can't so 3 stars it is. read more

The ramen here is delicious except the broth can be too salty. I've tried the top three ramens here, which come with slices of pork, a poached egg, some veggies, and noodles. It's been consistently cooked well, but the broth has also been a bit salty at times. The #1 and #2 are my favorites. I also like their takoyaki as well. This is a nice addition to Tucson. The staff is very friendly. I loved the large sculpture of a bonsai tree in the main indoor dining area. They do have a nice covered patio as well. The food is well priced for the most part, and the presentation is beautiful. We ordered the barbecue squid - the squid was cooked perfectly and the sauce was spectacular. I loved the ramen! The mochi dessert plate is the perfect way to try three different mochi flavors. The only downside was that we found the barbecue squid to be overpriced. Everything else was priced very affordably. I did enjoy the ambience of the place, it had a very calm collected feel to it, and I did like sitting around family style at the table with other people - it just felt more homey. Went here Friday night and it was a pleasant surprise. Though I read reviews about a drive-through, I did not actually see it once I was in the restaurant. Upon getting there, it was somewhat busy. My husband and I were able to sit in the bar area where we could see a bit of the kitchen. We ordered two appetizers, which were both really good and held us over until our two Ramen meals, both of which were pretty flavorful and yummy. My spicy curry Ramen did have a bit of spice, but was not overwhelming at all. Throughout our time here customers were definitely coming and going so it does seem like a busier spot. A delicious ramen joint without lots of room, but tons of personality. The shoyu ramen was delicious and a great option for those who don't eat pork. There was a pretty long wait because they can't fit that many people in the building, but they got us in relatively quickly. There is even a drive through for increased convenience, which is crazy for the quality of food you're getting. The staff was very accommodating and fun to be around. The noodles were a little better than average, but broth was unlike anything I've ever had and we really enjoyed the flavor. Found myself here while waiting for reservations elsewhere.. a pleasant change of plans! The environment was decently cozy for a chilly evening out.. the atmosphere; modern, yet felt reminiscent of an authentic ramen shop, which added to it's charm. I was seated at the counter without the usual question asked upon arrival, but paid no mind with the friendly disposition and attentiveness of restaurant staff.. The restaurant offered decent alternative seating when* available, which seemed somewhat limited, and maybe not as great use of space like I'm used to seeing.. to my surprise, a whole corner table/area was used for employee/restaurant space, despite the need for more proper tables that aren't just counter/bar.. Luckily, was not a problem, but could see this potentially being an issue for folks that aren't young 20 somethings in groups outside of 2/4, of which the restaurant really resonates more than functionality, in my opinion. The food itself was quite good. Upon looking over the menu, I saw some options that were familiar, and some that were new to me, but had to inquire the waitress for 'non pork' options, which apparently were available, but not listed on the menu..? Oh though tasty, my ramen was unfortunately lukewarm, and for being a curry ramen, not quite as obviously curry that I was expecting.. but, the flavor was still very good.. fresh, with a nice level of spice.. I also had the pork gyozas, a bottled beer, and warmed sake, which was a nice pairing to accompany what to some degree lacked in my overall satisfaction with my experience. Would I recommend? Sure! .... I would definitely consider this one again before knocking it, but may consider ones that are considerably closer to my area of town, since it was just 'pretty good'. read more

Came on a chilly rainy Sunday at 5pm 11/2/24. We both had the delicious #4 Miso Tonkotsu Ramen. Comes with 3 small/thin slices of pork,1/2 egg, plus ramen and a few shredded veggies. The miso soup was tasty, if a tiny bit salty. Service was terrific despite the bar and every table being full including the large (12-seat) community table in the center. I'll give it a 4-star review for the experience overall. On Day 2 of my ramen kick which brought me to Kiwami Ramen based on the reviews. Centrally located and well reviewed, I was looking forward to it. I got the Kawami Aka ramen which is the spicy version of their regular ramen. What's nice is that they list everything in the ramen so you can remove things and add other extras if you want. Overall it's not bad, but it didn't really have the flavor profile that I was looking for in the broth. I can see why a lot of people would like it; just personal preference on my part. It's not very spicy despite the healthy amount of red oil mixed on top. I hope you like green onions because there are tons of it. That chashu was soft and fatty. Unfortunately they use thin noodles whereas I prefer the thicker ones. Again, just personal choice. I also ordered the karaage which was excellent. Really good spices mixed in, side of lemon and mayo. That was probably the highlight of the meal. Overall it was on the pricy side at $23.80 for the ramen and chicken. I really wish ramen places had set ("setto") menus with ramen and a small side of something. Their fried rice looked amazing but it's a full portion and I couldn't justify that with the ramen. Will I try it again? Maybe. I really want to try the fried rice and the curry ramen is calling my name. read more

First time at Kiwami Ramen. Only went because my daughter talked me into it. I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't what I expected. I expected more of a fast food establishment, it is not. You have to wait to be seated, which was very fast. The setting can be intimate or sit with other folks. The server was awesome. She gave her recommendations of which I followed. This ramen is becoming one of my frequently visited ramen places because of the quality and the great prices! The appetizers are decently priced for the portion and are very delicious I always get the chicken karage and char siu fried rice. Staff is always friendly and timely, even the drive through rolls through pretty quickly. Super casual inside and they're always playing kpop & jpop for the vibes. However, I read the reviews prior to coming here and it was mentioned that they had a gluten free kale noodle. When I mentioned this to the wait staff they stated that they thought they were gluten free, but six months ago they realized they were made with wheat flour. The wait staff then brought me the nutritional menu which only had 4 items marked as gluten free, spicy tuna, seaweed salad, edamame, and crispy fried shrimp. I was surprised that crispy fried shrimp was marked as gluten free, so I asked the wait staff to double check. They returned and said they checked the box and it is actually made with wheat flour. I've been here three times now and I have to say, it's definitely not my favorite place for ramen. The ramen isn't bad, but it doesn't have the depth of flavor that some other places have. I also do think that the service could be better. I've had the kiwami shiro ramen, which was decently good, the tonkotsu curry ramen, which lacked complexity and curry flavor, and the char siu bowl, which wasn't super flavorful and had too much bitter burnt garlic. Portion sizes are also a bit smaller than most other places, and I don't like that they bring out each person's meal at a different time, meaning one person's food will be cold by the time they're ready to eat it. I do enjoy the way they've decorated the restaurant, though. read more
