Done with my errands and wanted pho to take home for lunch. My favorite Vietnamese restaurant isn't open on Tuesdays, so in a search I found Fresh Sushi Pho at Kolb and Broadway. I placed the order by phone and it was ready when I arrived. I chose the rare beef and meatball and looked forward to getting home for lunch. The soup was still piping hot, which I appreciated. The broth was in a styrofoam cup with lid and the "rare" beef and meatball slices were in with the broth, so no longer rare. I would have much preferred the raw meat be put in the bowl with the noodles, jalapeños, and bean sprouts so I could add it when I was ready to eat. The pho broth had the right flavor, but not the depth of my not-open-on-Tuesday favorite. The beef was not rare and not plentiful; the meatball slices were fine. There is enough for lunch tomorrow, so the $18 cost was reasonable enough. read more

Stopped in with a friend for dinner after he helped me move furniture. I had the spicy chicken ramen and it was very good. The carrots and broccoli could be cooked a little more but they were good in the dish. This dish would be twice as good if it were to marinate in its spices for a day or two in the fridge. He had the seafood fried rice and it was exceptional. There is some spice in this dish we couldn't define but it made all the difference in the taste. We love this place. Went again for my birthday and were surprised to see that the menu had changed. We had specifically gone for the Tray in the USA boat which they were kind enough to still make. The new menu is smaller, though still good. One change I hope they make is for the specialty rolls to not all be fried. As mentioned, we ordered the Tray in USA boat, with the traditional rainbow roll replaced with their new Rainbow Ceviche roll (delicious!). All of the rolls were really great. Additionally, they were able to blend the options of beef balls and brisket pho which again was really great. Some of the best pho we've had. Their edamame is the best too! They season with some type of garlic furikake, so yummy. Seaweed and cucumber salad was also good. The new dessert, taiyaki, was sooo delicious! Fresh out of the fryer, it's a fish shaped churro dough filled with redbean and topped with chocolate syrup. I don't like chocolate so we asked for it on the side. Had gone into this place often. Once a week at a certain point because I love pho. Today will be my last time and it's just another example of owners increasing prices yet lowering service. Literally the only one in the place and the owner tried to make me get up and go over to the register to pay. She said that's the new policy because they don't have enough people. I was the only one in there!! There was the sushi chef sitting on his ass and her. It's the little things, especially when you have so many options for the same food. Another example, even after my consistent business to them, there was a bad experience where the pho broth was not good. I ate it anyway and didn't complain but I did let them know. She said whoever made the batch did it wrong. You think they offered me a discount or even a coke for the bad food and my loyalty? Nope. The food was really fresh and the sushi rice definitely made standards. It fulfilled my cravings and made me overall happy! The crab in the California Roll was delicious and my father really enjoyed the Caterpillar Roll as-well as an Egg roll with excellent crunch! Great little Sushi and Pho place near a busy intersection, and in a quiet strip mall. This location is behind a street facing Oink restaurant and DSW. Very non-descript location facing the large mall parking lot. Don't let the plain location fool you! The interior is very nicely furnished and the staff immediately greeted me in a very pleasant manner. I took a chance on this location as I was in the area and I was not disappointed. My order was to-go so I did not get the full experience, and I noted they were not busy inside, but did a fair amount of to-go business. Prices were not bad. Phone ordering was quick and easy. They have credit card, cash and tap to pay. My Pho order of beef slices was excellently packed with a very tight double layer package. Much better than the standard styrofoam loose lid type, you usually get. The top held the veggies and noodles, and the bottom had the broth with beef. Veggies seemed a little steamed by the time I got home (was delayed over 30 minutes driving home), but the broth, beef and noodles were perfectly displayed. The entire meal was great and met our expectations. I want to come back and try out the seated restaurant experience and some sushi. I ordered the Pho Nam (beef) and a spicy tuna roll for delivery and it was a great experience overall! Fast too! Delicious, flavorful broth. The Pho came in a large double decker type of plastic container that separated the fresh ingredients you put in the broth-like sprouts, cilantro, fresh ramen noodles, jalapeño, and more-in top while the spices of beef were in the bottom with the broth. The lid was impossible to pry off. I literally had to break it off. But once off it was cool to dump the fresh stuff into the broth and mix it up and slurp away. I dove into the sushi first - a spicier tuna roll than I've had in awhile, but I liked it! I'll be back to maybe dine in to get the service and ambiance of the place-it's in the strip mall across from Walmart off Kolb. But for takeout it truly hit the spot on all cylinders. This is my favorite place for Pho, the broth is so flavorful and the portions sizes are generous while still maintaining a respectable price! Definitely my #1 go to spot for Pho and everyone there is always very nice and friendly. They had to replace something in my order one time due to running out (it was near closing so totally understandable) and they gave me a Thai Tea to make up for the inconvenience. The teriyaki was great and the tempura light and crispy. My salad was just shredded lettuce and carrots, no dressing, but it was a good palate cleanser. My vegetable sushi roll came out later than the rest of my meal and it was delicious. They do a huge business in to-go orders but there were 4 parties dining in. My companion had beef teriyaki which is served in a hot metal pan on a board, similar to fajitas. It has broccoli and carrots and cabbage. I had the combination A which is chicken teriyaki, shrimp and vegetable tempura, salad, rice, and a California roll. This is all served on a boat. I substituted veggie roll (cucumber and avocado) for the California roll. The teriyaki was very good in both meats. The combination's chicken teriyaki came out in a small bowl. It's the right amount for me but it looked scant. Tempura was well executed but there was too much broccoli for my taste. More vegetarian sushi options would be nice. Prices were decent for what you get. Service was good. Sign outside says they're hiring and the one server was overwhelmed with tables and to-go both. Overall I would definitely go back. read more

Fresh Sushi Pho did indeed live up to its name. Amy, our friendly server, did an outstanding job. She promptly brought menus to our table, took our drink order, and answered all our questions. We ordered a variety of items: Shrimp Tempura, Miso, Rice, Gyoza, Pho Xao, and Spring Rolls. Drinks? Honey Lemon Tea and Boba Tea. We knew there would be leftovers to enjoy again! Atmosphere is welcoming, almost like sitting in a friend's kitchen, which was nice. Noticed that the chefs in the kitchen smiling while they worked; clearly they enjoyed what they were doing. One could taste the care that went into each item. Food was cooked perfectly and came out quickly. There's lots of items to try here, and we can't wait to return to try more of them. It was OK. My visit was during the pandemic times and circumstances were different. They were open for dine in and seemed to have taken the correct preventable measures in accordance with the local guidance. Have to update my review to say that I've been going to this little spot with friends for a few months now, and it never disappoints. Their pho is consistently pretty damn good. What really blew my mind was when I recently tried their fried rice and it was hands-down the best I've ever had. It had the wok-hei flavor that's very hard to perfect. It was PERFECTLY seasoned, and had lots of tender pieces of beef, egg, and veggies. The portion was huge, but it was so delicious that I finished almost all of it in one sitting.
