I've been to Hana Tokyo too many times to count. I loved when Grace worked there! She's the sweetest person ever. However this last experience was not the greatest, the hosts were rude, not only to me, but multiple people in my party. It was my 30th birthday and they seemed so irritated and argumentative. The reason I'm not giving one star is because the guy who does hibachi (raiders guy) is always fun and super sweet! Him and the waitress really made the experience better. I have been wanting to try this hibachi restaurant for a while. I was very excited to be able to celebrate a birthday party here with my sister-in-law. The service was excellent. Our chef was amazing. He had wonderful jokes interacted with everyone at our table all around a very good time Pricing is what to be expected when you go to a hibachi restaurant, so there were no surprises there. The drinks were OK a little too sugary but overall still good. Now for our meals, most of us got the chicken and shrimp a few ordered salmon steak as well as lobster. My father-in-law, who was a father figure to me for 28 years of marriage, had recently passed away. My coworkers brought me there to offer support. We ordered food and consumed approximately one and a half drinks each. While seated and speaking quietly, we became briefly emotional. When we attempted to order additional food, we were told to leave the restaurant. We were not disruptive, intoxicated, or disrespectful. The decision to ask us to leave showed a lack of empathy and professionalism. The experience was embarrassing and emotionally distressing. One friend had been here a lot; other friend and I had never been. Walking in, the place is pleasant looking. We were there for lunch and were the only patrons. We were greeted and seated immediately. The server was wanting us to order immediately and we hadn't looked at the menu yet. We ordered the steak bento box, shrimp bento box, teriyaki chicken platter, 4 piece sushi, and 4 egg rolls. The meals came with soup for the teriyaki chicken (friend tried it and put it aside - no flavor). All 3 salads had waaaay too much dressing. The dressing was good but 1/4 of the amount of dressing would have been enough. The steak, shrimp and chicken were very good, as were the egg rolls and sushi. The sushi tuna, white fish and salmon was very fresh and perfectly prepared. I would have preferred a bit of lemon over the oranges pieces in the bento box. All in all, a nice meal. I've been here a handful of times and it's been great! This time, not so much. First of all, if you want the hibachi lunch don't go on a holiday because they don't serve it. We didn't know that and when we went had to pick something else. My favorite dish we got was the Shrimp Yaki Udon. It was very filling and pretty tasty. The edamame was good, next time i'll try them with the garlic seasoning! The combo fried rice was alright. The rice was somewhat hard and overall, it just wasn't as flavorful. The sushi here is pretty fresh and good. The service was great! Our waitress was quick with everything and always made sure our drinks were filled. Our server (Stef or Stephanie) was very bland. She did not smile or speak with any politeness in her voice. when we asked questions, it appeared that we were bothering her. The chef that was at our table cooking turned our experience from bad to good, he was friendly and funny and put on a good show while preparing our food. I sent my food back to the kitchen because it was cold. when it was brought back to the table, it was still cold. The chef offered to reheat my food on the grill and added soy sauce and a little butter and made it taste a lot better. Raw fish in the middle of the Arizona desert? Yes! and I lived to talk about it. Okay, it wasn't the best I've had, but it was quite adequate. I had the Hana Tokyo sushi and a salmon skin handroll. Both were legit. I get good stuff in Los Angeles and I can say that this is pretty good. Fish was sliced well and generous. Speaking of generous, my wife's salmon in miso marinade was very generous portions with lots of veggies. Our friend had the scallop dish and I couldn't believe how many scallops they gave him. Lots of veggies too. We also ordered the yakitori appetizer and that had about 6 skewers per order. Everything was quite tasty. We sat at a regular table, but they have tables or bar seating around teppanyaki-style flat grills. A chef cooks the "hibachi" food with a lot of theatrical style. It's quite a show with flames and flying food. This is a pretty large place with lots of parking. Bright, airy, clean, new-ish. Service is good and helpful. Came here for dinner a few nights ago and thought I'd share our experience. We started with the peppered tuna appetizer which was good and plate presentation was on point. For my main dish, I decided on the hibachi filet mignon which was also very good. The steak was cooked exactly how we wanted it and the veggies and rice were a nice complement. We weren't a fan of the soup or the salad, but to each their own, right? This restaurant is kept clean and the all of the staff that we encountered were friendly and professional. While visiting a plant nursery in Tucson, we decided to stop here for Saturday lunch. We were very happy with our choice. We all tried a different lunch Bento and they were good. A typical Bento with good quality food. Everything tasted good and the service was friendly. I really liked their lunch options. Good prices. The real star for us, though, was the edamame garlic sauce. Probably the best sauce I've ever had on edamame. If you love garlic, you will love this sauce. Sooooooo gooood! I ordered vegetable tempura as well as chicken teriyaki to go. The meals came with salad, miso soup and rice. The vegetable tempura was actually pretty good, with lots of yam (which I love). However, the teriyaki chicken was honestly the worst I have ever attempted to eat. Thinly sliced chicken which was so dry you could almost snap it in half. Definitely not easy to chew. I think they must save less than descent cooked chicken aside to use for to go orders. The chicken was so inedible I will never be back and will tell my friends how bad this meal was. I chose Hana Tokyo for my birthday. I've had hibachi a few times before in other states but my husband and kids haven't experienced it, so I thought it would be fun and tasty for everyone. I made a reservation, so we were seated pretty quickly. I will say that our server was very attentive. She was quick with refills and clearing plates along with being friendly. We had no issues with that aspect. As far as the food goes, it was good. The salad was tasty, although the soup was pretty bland. All of our dishes were cooked well. Our biggest issue was our chef. I'm pretty sure we ended up with a trainee or the new guy. His skills were rudimentary and he didn't seem confident at all. He did do an impressive amount of banging the spatula and fork on the cooking surface but that didn't make up for his lack of skill. When he was getting ready to serve our main course, I asked him what happened to the shrimp appetizer. An appetizer is something you'd expect before the main course. He pointed at the shrimp on the grill and said it was part of that. He seemed very confused on how to divide the shrimp since two of us had ordered shrimp as part of a combo. (One with steak and one with scallops). He divided the shrimp up finally and plated it at the same time as the rest of our main course. Weird. We also had the pleasure of watching several other chefs in the restaurant and we definitely got the new guy! We decided to split 2 desserts and they were very mediocre. The "fried" ice cream just seemed to have a coating on it because the bottom of the ice cream wasn't even covered, so no way it was fried. The bananas were ok but I would definitely skip dessert if we were to return. I also had a mango margarita which was overly sweet and oddly thick in texture. I'd skip that next time too. All in all, good food, good service, bad chef experience. I'd consider returning to try the sushi sometime but wouldn't get hibachi again. read more

Hana Tokyo offered some great Japanese dishes. We ordered the Tokyo Hana Combo Bento Box and the Combo Udon Noodle. The box included soup and a salad starter both were very good. The noodles had great flavor and were loaded with meat and vegetables, normally when you get a dish like this you get way too many noodles and not enough of everything else. The noodles were so good I wish there were more! The meat was all good but the chicken was a little dry. Everything was great with the Bento box and it was a great way to sample several items, Katsu, sushi, fish and shrimp. Service was very good and the restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere. read more

I've previously written critical reviews of Hana Tokyo, but an update is warranted. Wife and I came in Sunday with another couple and I was pleasantly surprised. The service was good. We were seated promptly. The appetizers were each about $8 and were good shareable portions. The crab puffs and gyoza and calamari were each light and crispy; not over-fried or heavily breaded. I got the scallop hibachi dinner. I expected a good meal, but my expectations were exceeded. The scallops were medium-sized sea scallops, but they served a hefty portion of them. They were golden brown on each side and were delicious. I forget what everyone else got, but they were pleased, too. Everyone left full and happy.
