Leaving Tucson on the way back to Phoenix and wanted to get a quick bite. We looked for sushi and found Samuri Sombrero, a start up sushi spot in a food court in central Tucson. This was not what we expected but the staff was friendly and 1/2 patrons at the food hall were eating sushi. The stalls have big energy today and lots of patrons are searching for a seat. Why not give them a chance? The menu is fairly varied for a small pop-up with traditional and deep fried sushi rolls. The female wait staff is handing out egg drop soup samples to everyone, ever those eating pizza and gyros. Looking around, these rolls are huge. We chose the Sonoran roll with shrimp tempora, spicy tuna, spicy crab topped with seared salmon and yuzu sauce. This roll was flavorful and spicy. Another roll was the Samurai with shrimp tempora, cream cheese, avacado wrapped in soy paper deep fried and covered with spicy crab / shrimp mix baked in a spicy aioli and eel sauce. This was our favorite roll with a pop in the tempora shrimp and an uncious taste coupled with a bite. Our third and final roll was the heart attack. Another spicy roll with shrimp tempora, avacado, cream cheese topped with jalepeno, spicy crab and chef sauce. Again, another good roll and a ton of food. This food mall is in an unassuming neighborhood with a smiling server who is hustling like crazy. The sushi was good, unique and tasty. It was a huge amount of food. Give this hard working staff and chance, she is enthusiastic and working hard. To the staff at Samurai Sombrero who are working hard and obviously, not a trained sushi chef. To the public, take a chance, give Samurai Sombrero a try and judge for yourself. read more

I would give this place 10 stars if I could! They have three main vegan sushi rolls. The death free foodie is my absolute favorite!!!! everything is always so good here. Get a side of fresh steamed edamame while you wait. The owner is an absolute delight. I love her so much. Just a wonderful human. It is within the American eats food court. Lots of seating. All i can say is WOW! The chile relleno roll? WOW! Fresh green green chile stuffed and sliced like a roll. Just the right amount of heat and amazing flavors. We also had the Mexican, fantastic. Crunchy exterior with creamy filling. Also enjoyed the Sonora roll. The service was also excellent. The woman who took our order genuinely loved her job and was proud of the food. The rolls are HUGE. Two would are enough for the average couple along with an appetizer without feeling gross at the end. Love the location. I'm from out of state, so sorry if I'm wrong, but it feels like an older commercial area. Tons of charm just driving around. The inside is setup like a food court. Ordered 3 rolls in a not very busy evening. After 35 minutes, checked in: it will be out soon. After 50 minutes, checked in: I will be making it soon. Food did not arrive for over an hour. If you are that busy, you should let people know, especially the first time they check in. I get busy, but an hour is excessive under any circumstances. Just a heads up would go a long way. This place is inside American Eat Co, towards the far right of the entrance. We were helped really quickly by staff that was friendly. They even allowed someone in a group to make a substitution in one of the rolls, which we appreciated The rolls offered aren't super unique, they mostly consist of the usual suspects you find in most places, but the 4 our group had were all tasty and served at a perfect temp The ones that were fried were not greasy at all but they were super crunchy, and we found the total cost reasonable. I wish the ingredients offered a greater variety because although it looks like they have a lot of rolls to choose from, honestly they all tasted super similar and we had a tough time choosing which menu item to get because we had a hard time seeing the difference between many of the rolls. I eat here often, and the food is always fresh and delicious. My favorite rolls are the Heart Attack roll, Mexican roll, and La Frida roll. I've never had a less than perfect item here. They're also just a really great operation--the staff is so nice. They've given me edamame a few times for waiting, which was unnecessary because I barely waited 5 minutes! Disclaimer-I ordered off door dash However what I ordered tasted fresh and absolutely amazing. I had an order of crabsticks and a skinny roll. The crabsticks were not as crunchy as I would have liked but again, I ordered off of door dash so it's possible they are different in person. They tasted great regardless! I also had the Skinny Roll, which sure didn't taste skinny but it was amazing! It had Shrimp tempura, spicy crab, avocado, cucumber with sriracha and Special sauce. I really wanted to love this place with the positive reviews it had, but unfortunately my experience was not the best. This is located in the shared space of American Eat Co. Like most of the places in American Eat Co, you pay for your food before you receive it. We paid for 4 different rolls. It took about 25 minutes to receive 3 of the rolls (and they weren't busy). Two of the 3 rolls had shrimp and the shrimp was so over cooked that it felt like we were chewing on rubber. I'd never experienced that from a restaurant before. I will say, the flavors were great and I loved the addition of jalapeño in one of the rolls we ordered. More time went by and when we were almost finished with the 3 rolls, the server came out and said they didn't have the ingredients to make the 4th roll and we had to choose something else. We asked that they just give something that is the same price so we got a spicy tuna roll. Essentially it took them over 30 mins to tell us they didn't have the ingredients to make our 4th roll and they were not busy. Overall not a great experience. Wait time after ordering was long, chewy shrimp, and they didn't let us know when we ordered (or even shortly after ordering) that they didn't have certain ingredients to make some of their rolls. It's also very pricy. $15-16 per roll. Not worth that price. read more
