Really wanted to love this place -- it's a small, local sushi spot with a loyal crowd and super friendly service. Our waitress even went out of her way to hand-make a chili for us when we asked for more spice (which was such a nice touch). That said, the food itself fell a little flat. The dishes I tried just lacked flavor and depth -- nothing particularly bad, just not very memorable. On the bright side, they do offer a ton of vegetarian and vegan options, which is great for plant-based diners. Overall, it's a decent choice if you're nearby, but not one I'd go out of my way for.

Not much customer service walking in. We were directed to a table and sat there for a while before they brought menus. Drinks orders were also slow. The food did are quickly. We ordered 7 rolls and they were good. The restaurant was bigger than I thought.

For some reason I never experienced very good service here so I take my food to go. The place is super casual and not as clean as some other sushi places in town, however sushi here is pretty good. I ordered a squid salad which had a lot of flavor, Oregon roll was fresh and tasty. Their eel unagi is amazing

I have been wanting to stop by and try them out for a while now I'm glad my son decided to take us here for dinner. It's a very happening place. It was extremely busy, but the staffing was very nice and kind and prompt and letting us know that they'll be clearing a table for us promptly. A little bit of a wait but the food is well worth the wait times, when our food arrived all came out so fresh hot and delicious , full of flavor. Most items are priced for what you would expect at a sit down restaurant . Both of our waitresses were extremely friendly and provided fast service. Will definitely return for more

Super fresh, super tasty, awesome staff, best sushi in Tucson, hands down! They also make rolls with no rice for me!

Menu is all I got a photo cuz the service took so long!

Sushi's not all that great, it's good but not great either. We've given this place a couple of chances but the service every time we go gets worse, even on a slow day the service draaaags, it's like they forget they have customer. The place is clean and well maintained and for that, a two stars.

Unagi don...my favorite here.

For authentic Japanese cuisine on the East side, Sachiko is my go-to spot. Conveniently located next to Trader Joe's on Wilmot and Speedway, it's the place my family turns to for takeout whenever we're craving Japanese food. My personal favorites are the salmon kama and unagi--both consistently prepared to perfection. The restaurant is often full, so plan ahead for a little wait, whether dining in or picking up takeout, but it's always worth it. I also love the mom-and-pop feel, with pictures of their dishes displayed all around the restaurant, which adds to the charm. With friendly service and food that has been reliably delicious over the years, Sachiko has truly become a neighborhood gem.

This a great local place, our new go to for sushi! The service is quick and the food is always good. We love the charm of the restaurant, with several of the signs being handwritten in Japanese. Only downside is not a large sashimi selection.

As an update...I come here often. Today service was slow and inconsistent. They did not serve us miso soup today! I like their soups and sushi's.

Always so good every time I go. Came on a Saturday early afternoon. Wasn't too busy. Sushi came out quickly and it was sooo yummy. Service is the same staff and they are quick and efficient. Making sure you are taken care of. I appreciate that. (Photos taken separate dates) Thank you!

Really good Sushi in Tucson. We liked the drinks and atmosphere. We ordered à la carte sushi and it was reasonable.

Having a…read moreJapanese fast-casual option here is a great addition since choices in this area are pretty limited. For my first visit, I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl--probably the most classic item on the menu. The portion size was generous, the presentation was neat, and the service was quick and friendly, making for a great first impression. The only reason I didn't give a full five stars is that the chicken itself lacked flavor. It didn't have much seasoning or that grilled, smoky taste I was hoping for, though the teriyaki sauce did add a nice sweetness and depth. Overall, I'm still looking forward to coming back to try other items on the menu. It's nice to see a new, casual Japanese spot bringing more variety and flavor to the area.

The bowls we got were delicious. The teriyaki was charred nicely and the sauce was flavorful. The veggies were perfectly crisp in my opinion. My daughter loved the rice bowl and I thought the spicy tuna was pretty tasty, too. The sushi roll, though, was roughly a grocery store roll. Not bad, not great. For a fast casual place, the food was solid, but I don't know that I'd do the sushi again. The place itself is clean and the music was upbeat but background. The staff were friendly and the food came out quickly. All in all, I'll be back when I'm on this side of town.

Since there were so many options, I'm only going over highlights. Favorites: Salmon Volcano, Dragon egg, Salmon Roe sashimi/nigiri, Naruto roll Salmon Volcano: (5/5) Spicy imitation crab wrapped with 4 cooked salmon slices and topped with spicy mayo and sweet eel sauce. Presented beautifully and tastes even better. Dragon egg: (4.5/5) Lots of Imitation crab wrapped with thinly sliced avocado to look like an egg and drizzled with eel sauce and spicy mayo. I mainly like this one because how it looks, the taste is decent but not exceptional. Salmon roe: (5/5) This dish is usually limited at other ayce sushi restaurants because of how expensive it is. At kintaro, it's unlimited, fresh, and you can order it without rice to enjoy more. (Order as sashimi and not nigiri) The taste is very salty and umami. I like to think of it as big caviar. Naruto roll: (4.5/5) Salmon, tuna, other fish, and avocado wrapped with cucumber served in a slightly sour sauce. It has NO rice. Honestly a good pick if you like fish but not rice. Least favorites: snow crab hand roll, fried scallops, miso soup, surf clam Snow crab hand roll: (1.5/5) I'm 90% sure there is no snow crab. It tasted like imitation crab to me. Fried scallops: (1/5) Tasted like imitation crab/fish. It lacked both the slightly chewy and springy texture of scallops and the scallop flavor. Miso soup: (3/5) Last time we were here it was loaded with tofu and seaweed but this time it was just the soup. Surf clam: (2/5) It didn't taste like anything. One issue was the service. The food took 15-30 minutes to come out per order, which was understandable due to how busy the restaurant was, but the worst part is that it came out incomplete so I couldn't tell how much of an order was left before I made a new order. The 2hr time limit doesn't help either. On top of that, our server got our old order confused with a new one so that we ended up getting duplicates of a huge order which we couldn't finish. Luckily, the manager was nice enough to not charge us for the extras if we didn't take them to go and offered us to take the leftovers for $20 if we wanted to take it to go. For the ambiance, it's pretty nice. Music loud enough to mask out the other tables and decorations on the wall. Overall the sushi was mostly fresh and the ambiance is nice, just the food comes out a little slow. I would still highly recommend kintaro.

From the time we arrived to the time we left, the staff were incredibly kind and courteous. Our server Reuben was especially great. As my sister has been here a few times already, Reuben immediately knew her choice of drink and starting appetizer. Any time he was checking in on us, he was incredibly kind and offered some very helpful recommendations. As we were being seated, my sister had mentioned offhand we were celebrating my birthday. Before we received our check when all was said and done, several of the staff took a moment to wish me happy birthday along with a slice of cheesecake! Obligated or not, it was incredibly sweet and I was truly humbled. The food itself was superb. We chose a variety of sushi rolls and each were bursting with a distinctive combination of flavors; everything from sweet and tangy to spicy with the perfect amount of bitterness. Each roll was well crafted had the presentation to match its splendid umami. I can't speak on behalf of the more busy nights but at the time of our meal, the restaurant was pulling in some steady business without feeling noisy or chaotic. Tables were clean, staff were attentive to customers and I just felt so very welcome there. Needless to say, I left Kintaro positively beaming. I'm already looking forward to my next visit which will likely be sooner than later.

The menu seems a bit more fusion than traditional but a good balance of pushing boundaries without trying too hard. We made a reservation for lunch on a Sunday but were only one of three parties. Walked in, immediately greeted and sat at the bar, our request. The hostess also our cocktail and beer server. Hubby had a delicious clarified cocktail which was absolutely yummy but at $18 a pop for a good four drinks and it's gone cocktail, ok. I know they take time to make. I had a $10 Sapporo draft. We then ordered two pork Bao Buns, two sushi rolls, the Shiro Maki and the Tataki Maki. Both really good, really well rolled, not an abundance of rice either. I am obsessed with Ramen, I decided to order the house Ramen, the Obon, without the Bonito flakes because I'm not a fan. Looked good when it came, I just wasn't happy with it. It lacked something, umami, a well developed broth, who knows, I just know it wasn't what I normally like. It gave me heartburn from hell too. Overall, $150 later I left somewhat dissatisfied and disappointed. For a Sunday, at noon, four tables worth of patrons. Not loud, not super quiet, nice ambiance. I doubt that I'll go back, if we do, it will be for their $22 rolls of sushi.

It tasted freshly made as opposed to the last visit. We really enjoyed our cocktails which were refreshing and yummy. This was not what we expected but the staff was friendly and 1/2 patrons at the food hall were eating sushi. The stalls have big energy today and lots of patrons are searching for a seat. Why not give them a chance? The menu is fairly varied for a small pop-up with traditional and deep fried sushi rolls. The female wait staff is handing out egg drop soup samples to everyone, ever those eating pizza and gyros. Looking around, these rolls are huge. We chose the Sonoran roll with shrimp tempora, spicy tuna, spicy crab topped with seared salmon and yuzu sauce. This roll was flavorful and spicy. Another roll was the Samurai with shrimp tempora, cream cheese, avacado wrapped in soy paper deep fried and covered with spicy crab / shrimp mix baked in a spicy aioli and eel sauce. This was our favorite roll with a pop in the tempora shrimp and an uncious taste coupled with a bite. Our third and final roll was the heart attack. Another spicy roll with shrimp tempora, avacado, cream cheese topped with jalepeno, spicy crab and chef sauce. Again, another good roll and a ton of food.
