Their star rating is accurate. I haven't been here for 23 yrs and it has gone downhill. No music on, practically dead for dinner on a Thursday night. Only other patrons there were for 3 birthdays as it use to be considered a celebration restaurant. Our chef was fun though and did a flower design from the eggs for the fried rice I'd never seen before and tossed the pepper shaker in his chef hat a few times. I did feel special as I was the only one at the table to catch the scrambled egg he tossed to each diner. Dinner comes with soup and salad. Broth with mushrooms tasty but salty. The salad is meh. I liked the fried rice. We ordered the filet medium and it just seemed like it needed seasoning or was overcooked. I know 2 out of the 4 of us left with our stomachs hurting. I went to Sakura for my birthday lunch with my entire family -- and it was such a hit!! I was a little nervous because my family (especially my grandparents) can be a little picky when it comes to trying new places, but everyone ended up loving it. It was the perfect mix of delicious food and fun, live entertainment. We went during lunch hours, and the lunch specials were great. Most of my family ordered the chicken plate, my best friend got the shrimp plate, and I got the shrimp and steak combo -- which came with a generous portion of fried rice, veggies, eight shrimp, and an entire steak. It was super filling and absolutely worth the $23. I think the chicken plate was around $14-$16, which is really fair considering the portions and that you get a show while your food is being cooked right in front of you. The chef was hilarious and so talented -- he made the experience even more fun by doing tricks, joking with us, and even singing me happy birthday! The whole table was laughing and having a great time. It was such a fun vibe, especially seeing my family enjoy something a little different. The inside of the restaurant definitely has more of a classic Asian-style decor -- not super modern, but it feels warm, cozy, and inviting. It wasn't super busy when we first arrived, but it started to fill up fast while we were eating, which is always a good sign. The food was the best part, but the rest of it...get it together! Came here after an event over at the Trail Dust Town with some girlfriends. Over the course of figuring out our order, I kid you not, we were handed 5 different menus. And when one of us asked about a certain thing, we were handed another menu. Here's a tip: consolidate instead of complicating the ordering process. The initial service was soooooo slow aka slow to take our orders. I had a seared yellowtail roll and spicy tuna hand roll. They were delicious but came with zero ginger and wasabi. Luckily, both of my friends hated ginger so I got theirs. I also got the pork egg rolls. It actually doesn't say on the menu what is in the egg rolls so I had to ask. Another tip: provide descriptions on your menu especially for something that can either be a disappointment for vegetarians. The ambiance? Meh. It's like a good chunk of restaurants in Tucson that have Home Depot utility tables for dining tables and padded metal chairs. Would I come here again? Probably not. Would I recommend? She was rushing us through our order the whole time. She shooed us back to our table and said "I'll bring them to you it's my job" with her hand physically shooing us away. She was rude to every single person at our table and made the experience really terrible for our time there. We had an amazing time at Sakura! I hadn't been here in a while and forgot just how amazing it is. The restaurant has been around for a very long time and used to be the hotspot in town. Inside is still pretty outdated but it does not take away from the excellent experience. I went for my birthday with my family and had an excellent time. Their Teppanyaki was a feast for the senses, the sushi was fresh and the service was top notch. They even had fresh and crunchy chicken strips for my son who is a very selective eater. I honestly don't even know where to start... this was by far the worst dining experience I've ever had, especially considering it was for my son's birthday. I've been a loyal customer before, but this visit completely ruined the celebration. First, our waiter was brand new, and we arrived as a family of 12. Despite repeatedly asking for assistance, I was told no and they made her handle everything on her own. She was clearly overwhelmed and confused, leading to multiple mistakes with our orders. We paid for an experience, but the chef came out visibly irritated, had to redo our order, and didn't put on the show we were expecting. To make things worse, my cousin was supposed to receive lemon chicken, but instead, the chef just tossed a slice of lemon on her plate, completely ruining our order. We tried to make the best of the situation, but when the bill came, everything was a mess. We were charged for items we never received, and we ended up with seven receipts--despite only being split into three families. Each receipt got higher and higher. When I pointed out the mistakes, they argued with us, accused us of lying, and even started stereotyping us, implying we couldn't afford the meal, even though I had everything recorded. It only got worse when several staff members came out, almost like they were trying to gang up on me and my sister. This was a 13-year-old's birthday dinner, and no alcohol was involved. I asked multiple times to speak with a manager, but no one ever came. I will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and taking all necessary steps to make sure others are aware of how terrible this place is. We ordered the mixed tempura, wonton Rangoon, Philly roll, baked scollop roll, and the Munch roll. Overall, everything was okay. The temoura was alright. The rangoon was just a crunchy block of cream cheese. The highlight was the Munch roll, which was slightly spicy and decent. The Philly roll was lukewarm, and that is never inspiring for sushi. I have to be honest, I was a little nervous about going here because all the bad reviews. But my daughter really wanted to go for her birthday and to share the experience with her two small children. They made sure we constantly had refills on our drinks and everything that we needed for our meal. Our chef Jose was very entertaining, not only for the whole table, but also making sure the small children were involved as well without being too afraid of the fire and the noise. Honestly, it was just like I remembered it the last time we went quite a few years ago. The food was really good and the portions were great. We had a variety of dishes from two kids meals ($20-21), three shrimp with steak ($37), one shrimp with salmon ($39), one shrimp with a fillet and scallops ($54) and one shrimp with fillet and steak ($51) All of the meat, shrimp, and scallops were cooked perfectly as ordered. The meal also came with soup and a salad. The vegetables were an excellent addition along with the fried rice ($2 extra) It was a very filling meal. Drawbacks are it is expensive but it's for dinner and a show and you get quite a bit of food for the price. Nowadays, dinners are expensive everywhere so I thought it was reasonable. My salmon was a little overcooked, but it was not dry. The yellow tail roll was very small and not as good as other places ($10.95) We had a fabulous fun filled night. So first time here and first time to this style of dining. Adequate parking and clean, a good start. Upon entering we are immediately greeted and seated. The hostess takes our drink orders and returns promptly with our drinks. Our order is taken shortly after, and our soup arrives. Delicious!!! Egg rolls arrive and...delicious!!! Our chef arrives and this is where the real value lies. He is entertaining, and engaging. He prepares our meal with flare and personality, and makes it a fun and interactive experience. Well, today has just been about bad service and food. We hadn't been here for a few years, not going back. My steak and chicken we're both dry, we sent it back and they warmed it up and it came back even more dry! Oh ya, I did order my steak medium. Nope My wife sent hers back because her steak was dry and shrimp was chewy. Our Gyoza was good, however the rest fell short. We kept waiting for a server to come back and bring us drink refills as well and after 10 minutes we had to finally flag her down. Again she was pleasant but just not on top of things. Look at the picture of my steak and chicken. My understanding is you get a side plate vegetables which I declined. So the steak and chicken dish is exactly what you see in my picture, minus one piece of each that I tried. $33 come on. Overall 2 plates of food, one appetizer, two drinks and it was almost $100? It was 3 out of 5 of our first time there. April 14, 2022. There are normal tables you can sit at, But we sat at a grill. A chef comes and cooks your order in front of you. The guy who cooked our food was absolutely amazing. He really put on a show. I wish I remembered his name to throw him credit but I'll include a photo. (He is a Raiders Fan). We loved watching him! He really takes pride in his job and does an excellent job. We tipped him $40.00! Our server seemed a bit pushy/rude- kinda chuckled when 2 of us ordered the steak. She kept trying to take the menu even after we asked to keep it to reorder more for the birthday girl. She seemed irritated when we did order more. I get it, I'm a server as well and hate when people just sit and order more and more, taking up my table for an hour but that's the name of the game & you just hope they tip well. We DID put our 'add-on' order in a box. Our split checks were $215 ($85 / $130) and we left her a $70.00 tip ($30/$40) All in all, it was a great experience- especially the chef. This was truly a fun experience. It is a little bit of a wait to get everything started from the time you do get sat. A chef comes to your area and starts cooking the rice and the egg along with the vegetables. Then he focuses on cooking the meat we chose along with the other people that was sitting with us. He was overall entertaining and fun to watch while cooking from beginning to end. I would recommend if anyone is looking for a fun entertaining meal. It was not busy at all when we went in.
