This is a great spot for happy hour with colleagues or for networking. Their selection of saki is nice. I had not gone to Sakura for about 10 years but decided to go with by family. All I can say is that we walked in and the hostess was rude. She would not seat us until the rest of my party came in. So this was our first time visiting Sakura. It was a time between lunch and dinner so not to busy at the time when we arrived. We were asked sushi or Teppanyaki and we chose the later. We were seated at the grill and once another couple had joined us we all ordered. All three of our party got the teriyaki chicken with the fried rice. The meal came with soup and salad. The soup was a beef broth with pieces of mushroom not plain but tasty. Next to salad with an Asian thick dressing which was surprisingly good. Then on to the show. A gentleman came out with a cart and started up the vegetables set them aside. Peed then proceeded to do with the fried rice and set that aside. He then started cooking up our chicken along with the other couples steak and shrimp. The Teriyaki chicken was very tasty as well as the fried rice and the mixed vegetables. Highly recommend!! We celebrated my nephews High school graduation with dinner at Sakura. My sister and I haven't been there since we were kids! It was almost exactly as I remembered. The experience was so nostalgic and phenomenal! Our chef Oscar was absolutely wonderful. He was very skilled and talented! He did tricks and entertained everyone!! I've been coming here for happy hour for years. Their consistency is impressive, though it's not my first choice if I'm looking for super high quality sushi. I do love the bar area and patio. Especially in this weird Covid-era. I'm super happy that they are back open BUT - THEY GOT RID OF THEIR HAPPY HOUR. I'm so bummed. That was seriously one of the main draws of this place for me. Another man came over with a big hat on, yup--that was my sign! The whole family was in awe over his cooking show. He was almost done and I had to ask him to please try to let my kids catch the shrimp in their mouth like the other tables were doing. I was a little disappointed to see other tables having a bit longer show by their chef and the chef at other tables were letting EVERYONE at the table try to shrimp flip (probably not called that--but hey, it is what it is lol). After dinner, I went to the restroom. It was so gross! And, no toilet paper. I walked to and told a hostess. They said for me to go to the rest room in the bar. It was not something I would call clean or even nice. Good thing I was there to eat--not use the bathroom only! We will for sure be coming back. Per my sisters choice, this is where we went to dinner for her birthday. We called the day prior to set a reservation and that's where the red flags began. The lady on the other line asked for how many. I said 9, but we will need a space for the car seat. She then raised her voice and asked "how many total?!" So I said again 9, but we need a space for a car seat so 10 if we need a chair for it. She said ok and hung up. When we arrived, I was disappointed at the inside of this place. That was red flag number two. There was a smell I can't quite pinpoint, there was literally no lighting, and no ventilation. The whole place was HOT! I understand that there is fire to cook the food, but it shouldn't have been that hot in there. The place was also so dirty and outdated. The reservation was for 630 PM and we We were seated at 7 PM. The chairs were so old and tiny that a car seat could not have fit on one. And of course I couldn't put it on the table so we were forced to get the stroller so the baby wouldn't be put on the disgusting carpet. The server was BEYOND rude. She rudely asked for our drink order and was annoyed when we asked to start out with water as we browsed the menu. After she came back with water she asked my sister how we would be paying. My sister let her know we weren't sure yet. Again the server asked how we would be paying, she needed to know. So my sister said to just put it all on one tab. She walked away from us multiple times before we were even done asking questions. On one of her few trips to the table I caught her long enough to let her know that I have a shrimp allergy. She looked at me blankly and said "ok... and?" I said I am letting you know so my food doesn't come in contact with shrimp. She said so rudely "we'll then we will just have to cook it in the back" I said ok that's no issue. Then she said "oh no, I can't. I don't have a cook back there" I said ok, so can we let the teppan chef know? And she said "no, I don't have a chef back there he can't do it" I said she had to let someone know that my food cannot come in contact with shrimp. She proceeded to say "ugh I'll write it down here" then walked away. She took so long to bring out the soup and salad. She didn't bring refills around and when it was brought to her attention that she didn't bring my dad his iced tea, she argued with him that he didn't order one. The teppan chef did not arrive at our table until 815. The server then came up to me and said "he will cook your food at the end" I said "shouldn't it be at the beginning to not come in contact with the shrimp appetizer the others will be having?" She didn't seem pleased as she looked away. Then the chef said, yes he will cook my chicken and the food first and then do the shrimp at the end. The chef himself was great and very friendly. As he was cooking we noticed that we didn't have any sauce brought to us. Someone in our party asked chef if he had sauce, if not it was ok. Then the chef said "I am so sorry she didn't bring that out, I will go get it myself." After this the server only came around to remove the plates and bring the tab. I will note that the food was decent. I don't think it was worth the price. I definitely do not think the "kids meal" was worth $16 for chicken and rice especially being that my daughter only got 4 small pieces of chicken that were left over from what the table ordered. I will definitely not be returning, and will not recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

We had an early dinner at Sakura last night. The main reason for going here is it is close to where we live, so we thought we'd give them a try as they are in fairly close proximity to us ... and that's always a plus. Anyway, there is good and not-so-good in this review. The good is that the service is friendly and attentive. Also, for the sushi rolls that we ordered, the serving size (i.e., number of pieces of sushi) was quite generous. My Godzilla Roll and Booty Booty rolls were good, tasty, and satisfying, if not being the best specialty rolls I've ever had. My wife had the California Roll and that was also tasty and fresh. On the negative side, the miso soup tasted quite off and it didn't seem as if they used real seaweed in the soup. It looked and tasted more like soggy spinach. Ick. My wife thought her glass of wine was watered down. Also, the floor beneath our seats was not clean as it was sticky (I'm sure you know that sound....) and the entire restaurant decor seems in need of both a cleaning and a makeover. So, overall, I think Sakura could evolve into a very good restaurant if they took some extra time to focus on the service and decor. If you are looking for exceptional sushi in a chic environment, well, this is not the place for you. read more

When will restaurants ever train their staff on dietary restrictions? Why do state's food handlers cards classes not have a section on food allergies and dietary restrictions? I am so tired of the "deer in the headlight" stare when I ask what they have that is Vegan? Am I really the first person to ever ask these questions? Focus! Learn the business that you are in! Ugh! I asked if the teriyaki noodles were Vegan. Were there eggs in the noodles? What??? Is there oxygen on Pluto??? The answer, once she had to find out, was "somewhat" confidently relayed. As for the final presentation and flavor of the vegetable teriyaki? I honestly have seen better served at Safeway's deli counter. Completely underwhelming!!! The presentation AND flavor was "bland" to be kind. Additionally, the plate the food was served on had a design pattern that was probably applied "many" years ago as the pattern was worn out and made you definitely feel that you were eating on "old" plates.
