We started with the soup and salad and both were fresh and flavorful. Our appetizer was the Crab Puffs and they were crispy, creamy, and perfect with the sweet and sour sauce. We ordered Poseiden's Plate. My husband chose the filet mignon, lobster, and shrimp. I ordered the same but swapped the shrimp for scallops. The puffs, soup, noodles, shrimp, rice, and the filet mignon were our favorites. Our waitress and chef were friendly and talented and made dinner feel fun. They sang the birthday song in Japanese and brought out ice cream with a candle and surprised us with a printed photo. It was such a thoughtful touch. We also shared the Dragon Zodiac Bowl. It tasted like a yummy Shirley Temple with a twist. Very good but definitely on the lighter side if you are expecting something strong. A couple of things to note. We called ahead and were told we did not need a reservation but still waited about fifteen to twenty minutes. If you are going for Teppan Yaki it is better to make a reservation since those tables are separate from the regular dining area. When we were seated we were the only ones at the table. I asked if we could sit in the center and the hostess said maybe after soup and salad. A few minutes later the waitress, not the hostess, brought another group and let everyone know we could spread out and sit wherever we wanted. We decided to stop here for a quick bite after the Rock and Gem Show. It was less than a mile from our hotel and with our time difference, we were hungry by happy hour! We sat in a cozy bar top bench and a lovely waitress with a big smile helped us right away with hot water for me and ice water for my husband. We started off with a large hot craft of sake and the garlicky spicy edamame. Edamame was cooked to perfection. Some places, the beans are too hard. The taste was different but good and spice level could be higher. Our first roll came and almost as if our waitress was a genie, every time we finished a roll, she appeared with the next one! Always with a big smile and asking how we liked it. Our first one was probably one of the best specialty rolls I had. Our second one was the tootsie roll, it was fresh, simple and delicious as well. The third one was our jalapeño with tuna and cream cheese popper which was so indulgent. Our last roll was the Summerhaven roll. It had four pieces but extra large and topped with a sweet sauce with tiny pieces of mango and cucumber. It was a perfect dessert roll! Everything we ordered was amazing! Stopped by Mr ANS last night to have dinner with a friend that I hadn't seen in quite some time. We both love sushi and agreed that this was the spot. Decided to have our meal in the bar and Nika was the best bartender ever! Full of personality, she really made the evening a pleasure. Her recommendations were on point: the spicy Alaskan salmon, Troy roll, tsunami roll, spicy scallop rolls, and geisha roll were all mouth watering. You cannot be the presentation of the Troy roll which comes out to your table flaming on a bed of salt wrapped in tin foil. After the flames die down she unwraps and unveils the sushi and it's tender, delicious, and just melts in your mouth. The roles are not the run of the mill that you find in typical sushi restaurants they are innovative with very creative blend of flavors. They are a little bit more pricey than average but certainly well worth it. We had drinks: McAllen, vodka soda, Jack and ginger beer which were all on point. The only downside were the gnats flying around the bar. None got in the food or drink so not a huge deal but just a minor annoyance. But will definitely be back to enjoy their delicious sushi rolls. read more

We went on an early Friday evening with no reservations and got a seat at the teppan table but the restaurant quickly filled up. Although expensive, the food was good and I always enjoy the show. I do think our chef was a little lackluster, low energy, and didn't really interact with us much which was disappointing. The sushi rolls were delicious though. I highly recommend getting the Troy roll. It comes out on fire and has a lot of flavor! We also got the Alaskan roll and that was great as well. We've had the play boy roll before but this time it just wasn't there - good but not great. I got the land and sea (steak and shrimp) and both were yummy and the steak was cooked perfectly. I also got scallops in addition on the side and that was disappointing. Although it was cooked perfectly, it seriously needed more flavor, just more butter with a sear would've been amazing. Really disappointed with our experience, mostly because of the manager. He was a little condescending from the start and told us we didn't have enough people for our reserved table but he would let it slide this one time. We also ordered a red blend and were given a different bottle that was $28 more expensive without being told they were out of the original. We sat at a teppanyaki table and the ambience was very good. The only complaint I had was the chairs were not comfortable. The service was impeccable and the wait staff was super attentive to all of our needs. Used dishes magically disappeared. Our teppanyaki chef not only put on a show, he was a very good chef too. We finally got seated and the noise in the room was loud. While waiting, I used the restroom, it was dirty and smelly, Not a good start. We waited for our table chef, who finally arrived. Tables coming in after us were served well before we were...but it was my meal that was the last straw. The chicken I couldn't eat, supposed to have sesame seeds but they had to go the kitchen to get them. They completely ignored my request for a table for 2. I asked to speak with a manager and ha acted as if I was wrong. I just wanted a table for 2. I wasn't interested in the "Dog and pony show". The manager offered a table but said I would have to wait. We were already seated so I didn't want the embarrassment of moving back outside and waiting for our reservation. They're other guests sitting at tables which I asked for, but not for us. I will NEVER recommend Mr Ann's to any of my out of town clients or book a group again. Honest opinion. This place used to be very good but it has gone downhill. My drink was good but the food was not it. Our server honestly seemed annoyed with us immediately off the bat and the entire time up until we were leaving .... Calamari: large chunks that were tough & chewy, & the frying grease is old and you can tell. Green beans: the green beans themselves were good but you can still taste that the grease is old. Chicken lettuce wraps: just had a ton of onion and carrots. PF Chang's lettuce wraps are 10x better. Egg rolls: okay, but again gross grease. Like all you can taste. Coconut shrimp: Fried .... Teriyaki chicken: it took over an hour to come out, unfortunately, & it's not like it was completely packed in there so they must be short staffed? But the chicken itself was tough and dry. It was definitely over cooked. Summer haven roll: this was the only thing I genuinely enjoyed, the sauce on it is very good, idk if I just got unlucky but it was again overdone on the onion like everything else for some reason. We did not do the teppanyaki option and ordered a la cart instead. We shared shishito peppers for appetizer which were all surprisingly spicy. For this visit at Mr. An's, we did Teppan. Always fun to go as a group. Service was pretty good, teppan chef was great and lots of fun. But I thought the food was a little on the salty side, where it usually isn't. Also, I think they raised their prices and no longer do a shrimp appetizer (even though their menu says the Vegetarian dinner "Does not come with shrimp appetizer" - I would think that means all other teppan dinners do). It's a interesting experience, they cook your entrees, side veggies, fried rice and noodles in front of you. The cooker in our table is pretty enthusiastic, and the one in my friend's table is not, my friend gives four stars. I also give four stars. I liked the New York strip, it's cooked well and tasty, the smoke is a little bit too much, ventilation can be improved. Also it's a holiday season, pretty loud, and a lot of people here. In terms of recommendation, if it's a group of people just want the experience the Tiktok kinda chef cooking in front of you, recommended. I'll start with the sushi was great! However, the bartender ruined the vibe and experience. She was average height with glasses and dark hair (possibly a wig) - she was very loud in the quieter bar area which had a lovely ambiance if it were not for her. She was yelling at servers, cussing openly and loudly, speaking poorly of her coworkers to everyone seated in the whole bar, and telling everyone how she was going to call the police on a customer who "seemed like her mother when she was detoxing" ... why do I even know this?! It was highly unprofessional behavior and I really hope she does not manage people, for their sake. There is no way her coworkers enjoy working with her and I'm sure I'm not the only customer who was completely turned off by her behavior - I wouldn't go back there personally. It seemed as if she was speaking with ownership or a senior manager (older Asian male) who obviously should be aware of how negative of a customer experience she is providing but he seemed to condone it or at least be unbothered. I can't believe I've never written a review for Mr. An's. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Tucson. I always sit in the bar area and avoid the expensive teppan tables. I love their sushi! My go to is the sunset roll but tonight I had the spicy Alaskan which was delicious. It's less heavy and filling than the sunset roll. I've also had the Guadalajara, bacon of the sea, California roll Troy, and Las Vegas roll. I haven't found one I didn't like. The happy hour is great. Service can be a little slow but the food comes out right after ordering. The chicken lettuce wraps are the best I've ever had. Their wings, egg rolls, and edamame are also delicious. read more
