THIS IS NOT A SUSHI RESTAURANT - let's start there. In summary, what it is - a catastrophe. Simply awful. Do not go here if you want to have a sushi meal. Just don't. Honestly I have no idea why sushi is even in their name- as it sets themselves up for mislead and disgruntled patrons from the jump. They have attempted to make the atmospheric vibe cute but I'm not there for that and while I see they made some effort in ambiance, it didn't quite make a whole lot of sense. again, why do they have the name sushi in their restaurant name? Perplexing because THEY ARE NOT A SUSHI RESTAURANT. we were greeted by a friendly smile speaking to us in Spanish. The waitress spoke Spanish the entire time to my husband even after asking if I understood (which I replied a little) and asked If I preferred English, which I told her WE prefer English- but that didn't matter. She continued to speak to hubby in Spanish. Another clue this was not going to be the sushi experience we had hoped for. The waitress was super sweet and friendly. It was her warm inviting smile that lead us to stay against our better judgement We did almost leave when we reviewed the menu, which had everything from Mexican, Italian, American and who knows what else. when We saw no one in the front making sushi, that should of been all the red flag needed to leave. Another clue this was not going to be the sushi experience we had hoped for. Still we continued because by that time we had ordered my water and his lemonade. The homemade lemonade was good. Not overly sweet. Now onto the "sushi". I ordered a rainbow roll- which wasn't much of a "rainbow" when it's only tuna and salmon. Hubby ordered the Yaqui roll. In comes the food- the fact that they are using charcuterie style boards that can not be cleaned properly for serving raw fish is very disconcerting. She took about 3-5 minutes to come back with soy sauce dishes and wasabi after delivering our food. The wasabi was in a huge dish (clearly she's never eaten sushi before), and it was the consistency of yogurt and the color of lime green. As the other reviewer stated, (wish I would have read it sooner) the weird compressed white blob of rice that encases these gigantic rolls looked nasty and tasted worse. The sushi is questionable to be sushi grade. It had a weird slime layer over it and the texture was vile. Horrified at the look of the rice, and.... Well pretty much everything..... I tried a bite and just couldn't make myself eat more than one bite of the roll and one bite or the sushi on top. It was so disgusting in every way from the cream cheese to the fish to the rice. There is not one redeeming quality to these rolls. Hubby basically ate the cucumber and shrimp topped on the roll he ordered and that was just because he was starving and wanted to be polite. He too, couldn't stomach the rolls, the rice and the blob of fake crab on the side. Our Spanish speaking waitress was apologetic at the end after seeing that my roll was untouched. She first offered me (in Spanish, speaking to my husband) a different roll and I quickly said no thank you. After charging us for the meal, she came back with a paper that stated on a return visit, I would be given $25 towards the meal to try anything else on the menu. After the experience we had we will NEVER be going back . It was awful. Again, this is not a sushi restaurant and they should change their name

Absolutely terrible. I ordered a roll that had no meat listed in it. It came out with chicken in. So I couldn't eat it. It was also a baked roll and was cold. So it would not have been good anyway. (Poblano roll). It also looked like someone threw up on my plate. Not a nice presentation. We were the only ones there and service was fairly slow. It's also tiny. And just kind of weird inside. My husband had about half a bite of his dynamite roll. I don't think I've ever had salmon and I could tell by looking at it that salmon did not look right. Something was very off about it. Definitely never returning. Don't think this place can be salvaged.

This place is a disaster. The ambiance is deeply weird (they fixed the no music problem cited in prior review, instead they had a lounge act rendition of the Spider Man theme) and we were the only customers in the small restaurant at 11:45 a.m. on a Saturday. To drink, I ordered a Diet Coke, and my wife just asked for water. The Diet Coke came out in a can, which had expired four months prior (August of 2024. Isn't that when this location opened!?!?) and lost its flavor, and my wife's water came out in a plastic bottle. I ordered the dynamite roll, fried shrimp and cream cheese Inside, with salmon on top, and an order of the tostada with shrimp. My wife, a vegetarian, ordered the poblano roll, one of approximately two items on the menu not featuring meat. My food arrived first, and the dynamite roll was deeply unsettling. Instead of traditional sushi rice, they had sort of a super compressed rice glob encasing the interior ingredients. In fairness, the interior ingredients were probably fine, if unexciting. The salmon on top, however, was vile. It was cut extremely thin, and folded over on itself. The color of the salmon, if indeed that's what it was, was a muted pink, appropriate for neither cooked salmon nor the raw salmon one traditionally associated with sushi. In the few bites I tried of the dynamite roll (not the salmon), any flavor of the interior ingredients was entirely overtaken by the blandness of the compressed rice blob. The ceviche was fine. Finally, my wife's roll arrived, and after she started to bite into it, she realized that the main ingredient appeared to be chicken, despite this not being a listed ingredient. Otherwise, the theoretically baked roll was luke warm, and covered in a congealed poblano sauce and corn kernels. Although my wife stopped eating after she realized there was chicken in the roll, I tried some of the chicken to be sure that's what it was. Either they used canned chicken for this dish, or someone figured out an uncanny simulacrum of canned chicken. Also, given we were the only customers, it is borderline impressive that this roll wasn't served hot. We had bad vibes from the start, from the weird ambiance, to the lack of customers, to the extensive menu featuring sushi, Sonoran food, Italian food, Cuban food, and countless other options. Should have listened to our gut and given this one a pass.

Mexican/Italian food meets sushi? After reviewing the 21 page menu I just decided on a carne Asada quesadilla because the sushi combinations didn't seem very appealing. Our hostess and waitress were very friendly however they weren't very attentive to our needs and we weren't even offered a glass of tap water for 20 minutes. Very small restaurant with only a few tables.

grandes rollos! perfecto para parejas, familia y amigos buena vibra y grande servicio gracias por cumplir antojos con estilo!

NEW OWNERS! Food was amazing and the service was great. The new owners changed the previous system and the quality of everything was much improved.

Portions were big, recommend getting fried rolls! No music playing which was a little weird. Would go back though!

This was not what we expected but the staff was friendly and 1/2 patrons at the food hall were eating sushi. The stalls have big energy today and lots of patrons are searching for a seat. Why not give them a chance? The menu is fairly varied for a small pop-up with traditional and deep fried sushi rolls. The female wait staff is handing out egg drop soup samples to everyone, ever those eating pizza and gyros. Looking around, these rolls are huge. We chose the Sonoran roll with shrimp tempora, spicy tuna, spicy crab topped with seared salmon and yuzu sauce. This roll was flavorful and spicy. Another roll was the Samurai with shrimp tempora, cream cheese, avacado wrapped in soy paper deep fried and covered with spicy crab / shrimp mix baked in a spicy aioli and eel sauce. This was our favorite roll with a pop in the tempora shrimp and an uncious taste coupled with a bite. Our third and final roll was the heart attack. Another spicy roll with shrimp tempora, avacado, cream cheese topped with jalepeno, spicy crab and chef sauce. Again, another good roll and a ton of food. This food mall is in an unassuming neighborhood with a smiling server who is hustling like crazy. The sushi was good, unique and tasty. It was a huge amount of food. Give this hard working staff and chance, she is enthusiastic and working hard. To the staff at Samurai Sombrero who are working hard and obviously, not a trained sushi chef. To the public, take a chance, give Samurai Sombrero a try and judge for yourself.

The menu seems a bit more fusion than traditional but a good balance of pushing boundaries without trying too hard. We made a reservation for lunch on a Sunday but were only one of three parties. Walked in, immediately greeted and sat at the bar, our request. The hostess also our cocktail and beer server. Hubby had a delicious clarified cocktail which was absolutely yummy but at $18 a pop for a good four drinks and it's gone cocktail, ok. I know they take time to make. I had a $10 Sapporo draft. We then ordered two pork Bao Buns, two sushi rolls, the Shiro Maki and the Tataki Maki. Both really good, really well rolled, not an abundance of rice either. I am obsessed with Ramen, I decided to order the house Ramen, the Obon, without the Bonito flakes because I'm not a fan. Looked good when it came, I just wasn't happy with it. It lacked something, umami, a well developed broth, who knows, I just know it wasn't what I normally like. It gave me heartburn from hell too. Overall, $150 later I left somewhat dissatisfied and disappointed. For a Sunday, at noon, four tables worth of patrons. Not loud, not super quiet, nice ambiance. I doubt that I'll go back, if we do, it will be for their $22 rolls of sushi.
