    BURRITO AVOCADO CHORIZO
    Adriana F.

On our way to Saguaro National Park East, we made a quick stop at Amelia's Mexican Kitchen for takeout, and it turned out to be one of those "well that escalated quickly" food moments. Service was excellent. Lorenzo was friendly, thoughtful, and actually listened, which shouldn't be rare, but somehow still is. He had our burritos cut in half for easy sharing while driving, and made sure we were set before sending us on our way. We ordered the machaca and the avocado chorizo burritos. Let me say this plainly. These things are massive. You could easily split one and be perfectly happy. We did not know this going in, but now you do. The coffee, though... skip it. They gave me a generous cup, but it tasted like it had had a long night and given up halfway through. No strength, no flavor, just vibes. Now the burritos? Completely different story. Hands down some of the best I've ever had, and I've been around the burrito block more than a few times. The machaca was the standout. Loaded with tender beef, eggs, potatoes, and plenty of cheese, all wrapped in a tortilla so thin and light it felt like it had no business holding everything together, yet somehow did, like a quiet overachiever. The place was buzzing for a Tuesday at 10:45 in the morning, which tells you everything you need to know. Locals show up when something's worth it. So yes, grab the burritos. Maybe grab your coffee somewhere else. And enjoy the kind of meal that makes you briefly consider turning the car around for another round.

Stopped at Amelia's for lunch and was immediately drawn in by the intimate setting--every table full, the room buzzing with animated chatter. The presentation is where this place really shines. The enchiladas arrive plated like artwork--set in a pool of vibrant green sauce, finished with delicate crema patterns that look almost hand-painted across the plate. Topped with fresh greens, pickled red onions, and crumbled cheese, it's a beautiful mix of color, texture, and intention that makes the dish feel elevated before you even take a bite. Flavor absolutely lives up to the look--bright, fresh, and well-balanced. Only small miss: the enchiladas came out a bit lukewarm. Still, a great overall experience and definitely worth a visit.

My expectations weren't high here, but I definitely enjoyed this place. It is a bit cramped, yes, and Tucson's aggressively hot summers make the plentiful outdoor seating prohibitive, but thankfully I was able get indoor seating and it was quite comfortable and pleasant. The decor was colorful and had a home feeling that I appreciated. Speaking of asthetics, the margarita glasses were very pretty and that was something that stuck with me. Anyway, the food, isn't that why we're all here? The birria is the absolute best I've had so far in Tucson. Flavorful, savory and tender and delicious! Now, I am going to go into what I don't like too much and you're going to wonder why this place got 4 stars instead of 3, but I'll put it all together, I promise. First off, the Carne Asada, which I had to try since that's the thing I'm doing in Tucson, was very poor. The cut was bad, it was a tad dry and only mildly flavorful. Not good. The jalapeño chicken taco was bland. Chicken a tad overcooked. But the margarita was tremendous. I really enjoyed it and the glass. It was strong but balanced well. Made with intention to satisfy, not cut costs. Much appreciated! Speaking of which, a frozen margarita was ordered and it was watery with almost no alcohol. When made aware of this, the server explained that it was made earlier and he apologized and gave a free shot to balance it out. So he also contributed to the fourth star. All in all, the stuff I liked here I REALLY liked. The stuff that wasn't so good I could just skip and still find happiness. I do recommend this place and I'll be back.

Here's what you need to order: The combo platter with potato taquito, spinach tamale (best tamale we've EVER had), shrimp enchilada, the quesabirria with caldo, JASS taco, and choco flan. Our awesome server Eddie recommended all of these and they were nothing short of amazing. This place has ruined Mexican food for us.... we'll be chasing this high forever. If they were semi finalists for the James Beard award who in the world were the finalists? I can't imagine it getting any better than this. The place is small so make a reservation unless you want to sit out in the heat.

I really had high expectations for this place. Parking spaces in front very limited & inside has very small space felt really crammed inside. The outside bit better has more space in between tables. Now as service at first they were fast and helpful once we got food they never came back check on us. As food mole enchilada awful no taste flavorless the rest was okay. The food was cold too.

The location is small and the parking is sparse (more in the back). The waitress was nice and helpful. The food was okay. I was expecting much more given the yelp reviews. However, I tried the pastor and asada tacos ... small and basic. My son tried the biarria ... very little filling and again basic.

I love the North side Amelias location, and decided to give this one a try with an out of town friend - we both loved it! I knew this is where I wanted to take my out of town friend who wanted Mexican food! My birria tacos were juicy and loaded with meat, the salas were flavorful, and my friend loved her chimi! We were seated outside on a beautiful night, and the staff handled the line expertly and got everyone taken care of with a smile! This is an absolute go-to for Mexican!

Amelia's Mexican Kitchen 5553 East Grant Road Tucson, Arizona 85712 Good food, straight up. This place fills up fast with local foodies who clearly got the memo--traditional Mexican food done right. If you're not trying to fight for a table like it's a championship round, slide through during non-peak hours... or go tactical and take it to-go. I liked this spot a lot. Five stars for customer service, food prep, and plating that looks like it came out ready for its close-up. If you're in Tucson, do yourself a favor and grab the authentic machaca (dried-beef) burrito--that thing is a problem (in the best way). Recommended. Jordan

Rosa was our server. She was warm and attentive which we always like and really makes the experience whether food is good or not. I had the combo and my wife and son had the birria ramen. Also shared a guacamole. The food was so delicious but the presentations were well put together and showed pride in the product. We went for breakfast but didn't make it in time but still enjoyed our experience.

First time here. This is one busy place! Chips and salsa arrived quickly as did some heat from the heaters as we sat outside. The place is not huge; seating: 1/2 outdoors, others indoors. The special combo plate was delicious with shrimp enchilada, spinach tamale and chicken toquito ... yes those were my choices; you can choose yours. My friend ate 2 chili rellenos and both meals came with rice, beans, sour cream and guacamole. Rosa was our server and on top of all our needs, thank you for the fast service and good food!

Wildcat burrito - delicious but spicy with all the jalapeños
    Cindy N.

The breakfast burritos here are absolutely amazing. I like the Wildcat Burrito, and Amelia's is known for their award winning Machaca Burrito. The interior is smaller than the other location, and unfortunately, they do not provide chips and salsa here like the other location. The music and colorful mural inside is neat. Service can be a little slow but the servers are still polite.

Love the wall of chianti bottles that lead to the bar and love that the staff dress up in casual Prohibition garb. Came here for girl's night and it was everyone's first time even at the restaurant but mine. I'd had dinner a couple times in the restaurant for my birthday and had the cheese wheel fettuccine alfredo. I asked if anyone was interested in trying it and so 3 of us split it which ended up being pretty perfect. It is hands down THE BEST fettuccine alfredo. We had many drinks come to our table, the first round being the homemade limoncello. Made with local Meyer lemons, it is deliciously potent. A must try. The bartender, Ryan or Brian, he made cocktails from the heart. A couple of gals ordered "dealer's choice" drinks and they were inspired by the drinker's stories. It was really a unique experience for them and I could almost see his mind working out the chemistry of the libations. Another must try, although I didn't because I had to drive myself home. I did have a coffee with Bailey's, Amaretto, and freshly-made whipped cream. Last must try if not on a coffee drink maybe on a dessert. One person in our party thought that the drinks were on the spendy side. Many of the ingredients were house made and all top shelf. I'm from Los Angeles so an $18 drink was a normal night at the klerb. Worth mentioning if that would be a deal breaker. Worth a go. I thought it was better than the speakeasy at the Sonoran House which was too bright and not intimate. You really like feel more like you're not where you're supposed to be at The Still. There is a curio cabinet with cigars that I think are for sale. The speakeasy opens up to the patio for all the smoke suckers. Great for a small groups or date night, maybe not the first date.

The Cork is known as a steakhouse so many of the diners ordered steak dinners. I ordered the lobster tail which was wonderfully delicious and cooked to perfection. All of the diners commented that their dinners were cooked to their specifications, no matter what was ordered. The Cork also has a very extensive wine and cocktail menu that most of diners ordered from and were happy with their choices. Our waiter was wonderful. Suffice to say she absolutely raved - placing it on par with many of the Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants she has sampled back east. And, we agreed, when Michelin publishes its first-ever SouthWest U.S. edition later this year (2026) I recognize getting a star is a mighty fete but if Tito/Pep does not at least make its S.W. Bib list I will know the fix is in. We started with the Queso Fundido ($13) - with chewy cheese, sauteed mushrooms, and beef chorizo it was a perfect blend of meaty/savory/fatty. We also ordered the Grilled Octopus ($17). What a surprise this was, the crunchy roasted pepper flakes and unusually soft grilled octopus it kicked the pants off of "calamari-style." We inquired and the way they remove the typical rubberiness is by poaching the octopus tentacles for 5(!) hours before grilling. You Go chef Martinez! For our entree we opted for the day's special: deep fried whole Red Snapper for two ($85)... as did about a half-dozen other tables in this intimate 20-tabled venue. See pics as a written description is inadequate. The crisp was excellent and the tender moist fish just beneath, exquisite. The roasted jalapenos were other worldly - somehow only mild heat and with a subtle sweet/acid presence... totally and entirely edible. As fantastic as the vinegar slaw was atop our self-made fish tacos, the tomatillo puree was ridiculous - so fresh and not sour that its scent was nearly as strong as its flavor. We asked again, how?! and were told they first cook the tomatillos for 3 hours. Folks, the effort involved to present this kind of meal would be nearly impossible to do at home for even double the cost. We concluded with the ganache dessert ($12). While so richly decadent it was possibly too rich, only by virtue of its size... it needs to be shared! We were deeply torn over that or the olive oil cake and will opt for the latter... next year, Lol. For drinks we ordered two glasses of their "red blend" (really good for a simple blend) and then the Pie Allen after dinner cocktail ($13) - an interesting combination of prickly pear liquor and port. The staff were amazing - not just in timely attentiveness (a minimum requirement at this level) but especially in terms of being able to field our deep curiosities about several of the dishes. Due to our "layers" of ordering we stayed an easy 2+ hours and were never rushed. Parking will get tight at peak times but everyone will be accommodated. Pre-tip we were at $165 - a special occasion outing for sure but, we both agreed, an (almost) bargain. At this level of quality and degree of effort in Chicago or Miami (places she recently lived) would be closer to $250 for two. Small note: three years ago this began, now it's the norm - restaurants are calculating the tip based upon a total that's After the tax has been added.
