Pretty good. Pretty good. Of the four of us who gathered to dine here last Friday, (late summer of 2026), three in our party raved about their meals, and had nothing but high-praise for the experience. We three, actually loved everything about AMELIAS. Us three (*let's just call them "the cool ones"), were wowed by the taste of our food and noted that the plate presentations were kinda cool-- and a little "more-fancy" than what is typically placed down upon the table at your typical Mexican food restaurants. AMELIAS adds a bit of "pizazz" and "decorum" to their menu items--like edible flowers that float in your margarita, or wavy lines of crema that dance on the seas of flavorful sauces that accompany the tamales, 'chiladas, and relleno plates served here. Three-forths of us also noted how attentive and friendly those who served us were. And... we (the cool ones) also all noticed how the warm, cheerful, and welcoming ambiance and decor of the place added to the enjoyment of our meal. (*Play Debbie-downer walk-up music) One in our group...(dramatic pause)... was notably quiet and reserved when it was her turn to rave about her dish. This person, smiled and shared that she thought her food was, "pretty good." But, now that I think about it...her praise was kinda limited, and she, indeed, was a bit reticent. I would find out later, as we lay in bed that night, that one in our group had not enjoyed her meal as much the other three had. Apparently, the cheese and chicken enchiladas dish that was ordered was not to this person's liking, and she added that she thought the service was "just okay". Not wanting to bring-down the mood of the evening, this person played along and didn't criticize. Now, I am not trained in psychology, but if feels like...(how do I put this delicately?)... okay. (*the writer thinks for a bit). Sometimes... when one in our party does not get to pick the restaurant that we are going to try, it seems to me... that...(dramatic pause as I try to find just the right words to say this).. I seems to me... that...This person is just, "not going to enjoy" the place that was picked, no matter how good it is. There! I said it. And while I'm on the subject... your mom is just like this too. And now you know the rest of my story. Let's summarize: AMELIAS is a very good restaurant and you will enjoy the heck out of your meal. Unless, of course, you insist on being the one who picks where your group goes out to eat-- and you don't get your way. Then, you will find it to be, "pretty good", but complain about it later in bed. (I know this is supposed to be a restaurant review, and not a mini-soap opera. Wow, wow, wow!! We were craving Mexican while traveling and stopped by on a Saturday night. You know it's gonna be good when folks are waiting outside to be seated. The food was creative while maintaining that fabulous fresh, handmade Mexican flavor profile. Absolutely delicious! Pricing landed somewhere in the $$ amount per person including beverage and appetizer. Very fair for the level of hand-crafting going into every dish. We didn't have a reservation (highly recommend getting one for busy times) and were happy to sit where they could fit us. Our server Louie was EXCELLENT. He walked us through the entire menu in 3 minutes and we felt confident ordering. He also suggested an amazing appetizer featuring chilies stuffed with cheese and shrimp and wrapped in bacon . I ordered the Fajitas Mixtas for my main as I wanted to try several meats. Hubby ordered the shrimp enchiladas with both green and red sauce. Both were beautiful and delicious. I also tried the mocktail that had prickly pear puree. It was delicious and refreshing. The menu had options available for folks seeking Gluten Free, too. Amelia's was decked out with modern, slightly edgy decor that was welcoming and exciting. Seating for wheelchair users could easily be accommodated by dining table chair removal. The Oracle Street location isn't huge, but the staff does a fantastic job getting folks in and you won't feel cramped. So many years in Tucson, and how did I miss Amelia's before? The service was wonderful -- attentive, genuine, and kind. They have a great selection with plenty of options, even for the picky ones (aka me!). The prices are very reasonable, and the food is colorful, beautiful, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the noise level. Came here for dinner with my fiance and his friend ,we haven't been here before. It's our first time and we had ordered chimichanga, tacos and shrimp ceviche, we also ordered a strawberry margarita, watermelon margarita and a tap beer. The food was good, but I can say the drink wasn't that all that good. Service is horrible waited 10 minutes after we sat in to ordered and the waiter we had wasn't even paying attention to our table. So after we ordered he never once checked -in on us to see how things are or if we needed anything. Till he saw us finishing up he ask "is everything ok". We just said yes everything was fine. We weren't happy. Ambience here you have a lot of people talking over everyone. It's so loud. They got an outside sitting area, but it was just few tables and chairs. I've been to both locations and I prefer the one on Oracle. Their menus at the Oracle location have better options, including their fajitas, which I ordered. I enjoy the chicken fajitas, but the rice was a bit unseasoned, so I wished they added more flavor to it. Also, I had the mocktail mango margarita, and it was yummy. Second, Luis, the server, was an excellent and friendly person. He was helping me to pick my food orders, and his recommendations were really good. We had an amazing first visit to Amelia's Mexican Kitchen on Oracle Rd. Alexa took such wonderful care of us. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind, and she made our whole experience feel welcoming from start to finish. The hosts were kind too. There was plenty of seating, a dedicated bar, TVs, and nice lighting. The patio has misters, which is perfect for this time of year. They offer booth and table seating, and the tables aren't packed too close together. With party members who have different mobility challenges, the spacing was great and made everything comfortable. The food was delicious. The complimentary bottomless chips and salsa were fresh and generous. If you order the horchata, it comes with free refills too, which is such a nice touch. My husband ordered 2 birria tacos with caldo and loved them. My father in law ordered 2 ground beef enchiladas with red sauce, and my mother in law ordered 2 plain ground beef tacos. I shared the ceviche with my dad, which was fresh and flavorful, and we each ordered one Quesabirria. It was so good! Dessert was perfect. We tried the flan and the chocolate flan. I had to go to get a passport renewal last minute and got hungry waiting for the print to happen. I looked for best brunch near me and Amelia's popped up as highly reviewed and I fell like nopales. We got there just intime to beat any brunch rush and we all go to order what we wanted. Nopales con juevo, taco birria, pancakes Nutella and famous margaritas! All of the food was fantastic. Absolutely loved our experience at Amelia's! After first going to the wrong Amelia's location, we were so happy we ended up at the right one. Great experience! There's an absolutely delicious tomato sauce literally sizzling the entire time you are eating. I can't tell you how much I loved this. The sauce was so flavorful. The food I tried was good. I enjoyed the mole with vegetable enchiladas. I always enjoy trying a new mole! The mole was slightly tomato-y, not something that I noticed in other moles I have had. I liked the flavor and also liked the texture. I think it wasn't as piping hot as I was dreaming it would be which affected my enjoyment of it a little. The vegetables in the enchiladas were cooked well. The refried beans on the side were smokey and flavorful and the black beans I got instead of rice had a good flavor too (I find that black beans sometimes tend to be more of an afterthought in some Mexican restaurants in my experience) I am glad they now have some vegetarian options that are dairy free and egg free too. I believe both refried and black beans, mole sauce, and red enchilada sauce are vegetarian. The Rice and the flour tortillas are not vegetarian here I believe They had heaters on their patio which was nice. The restaurant in general felt crowded when my husband and I were there like they were maximizing seating more people than they could actually handle both in terms of service and in terms of space. Service was bad and felt unwelcoming. We weren't checked on during the meal and when we finally got the attention of our waiter to tell him that we received the wrong item or when we asked for anything he was impatient and rude. If I come back to eat at Amelia's it would be at a less popular time in the hope for better and more professional service. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. Can check this off the list! Met a friend here for brunch. Wasn't quite what I expected size wise and with the high ratings, I imagine that there can be a crazy wait. The parking lot is not that big and you have to make a quick swoop off of Oracle to park. Just a heads up. I tried the spinach tamales with eggs over easy and had a michelada with Modelo Especial. An unexpectedly perfect combo is what I got, too! We were brought chips and salsa while we waited. My friend and I both loved the tomatillo one a lot. Chips were fresh tasting. Ever since my dinner at BOCA, I feel obligated to mention that the chips and salsa were not a separate menu charge. The parking lot was filling up fast. Since I was by myself and my dog was resting in the car under a shade tree, I ate at the bar to free up a table. This was a wise decision as 30 minutes later all the tables were occupied. I can see why this place does so well. Everything about this restaurant is top notch: the food, the service, the ambiance. All the servers wear clean, professional uniforms(black shirt and pants for the men, white blouse and black pants for women) and work the floor as a team. I was impressed. No dirty plate is left sitting on the table. I ordered a chicken enchilada platter with both red and green sauce. The presentation was beautiful, with the rice, beans and salad served on a separate plate. I used some of the sauce for both the salad and beans. Ground Beef for my friend, with only rice, and I went with Carne asada or something similar with beans and rice, Christmas Style. When our entrees arrived I noticed no beans or rice on either one of our plates. So then I think it's going to be served on another plate and it's going to arrive in a minute or two. Imagine my surprise to find my Chimichanga has rice and beans INSIDE of it. Yeeuck. Don't fill my Chimi with filler. Beans and rice are an accompaniment, not the main dish. Wow! I've been waiting to come here for awhile and it was worth the wait!! I tried going to the other location but the wait was so long. This time I made a reservation at this location with no wait. Food- delicious! We left super stuffed and satisfied. The serving sizes were very filling. The food came out really fast and tasted freshly made. The mini chimis were delicious- a surprisingly addicting snack with fun toppings. The quesabirria was one of the best I've had. Lots of meat and delicious dip without a sign of cilantro! How do they get that green sauce so creamy and flavorful? Also Rodrigo at the bar was phenomenal! The service is solid but the restaurant is constantly packed it can be hard to sometimes get someone's attention for an immediate need. But it wasn't anything too impactful. Went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Location is good, small venue with about 20 tables of various capacity inside and 6-8 table on misted patio. Food was delicious! Quest Birria tacos with amazing bean and spicy Spanish rice. Bartender was great! Thanks for the conversation. I don't understand how there was a wait with 5-6 empty tables at all times! People waited 20 minutes for open tables. We sat at the bar because we did not want to wait. That is my only complaint. Visited this spot after reading the Yelp reviews. I have to admitted that I was perplexed after eating the food here. Let me explain my confusion. 1. The alcoholic beverages were lacking character. No try flavor, premade and no precision with liquid ratios. 2. No hot sauce on tables. Now think about that-when is the last time that you went to a Mexican restaurant and didn't see hot sauce on the table. That should've been a sign. 3. No flavor! Absolutely none. I ordered their birria taco + caldo. There was no excitement about it. I tasted no seasoning, which means they should probably increase the seasoning. Not even a flake of salt. The rice tasted like it came from a microwaveable package. That's not it! Plus, the chorizo queso dip lacked flavor as well. I think it would be better if the chorizo was mixed with in the queso instead of a small amount on top. 4. The highlight of this visit was the wings, which is why I rated this location a 2 (and our server was cool. He checked on us multiple times). The wings were tender and the sauce was good. Saw how great the reviews were for this place and wanted to try it out. The place is very small with outdoor seating. It was packed when we got here so we had to wait for some tables to open. Although the place is small, some people were getting seated first, even though they came after us. Once we said something and got seated, we had to say something again as we waited another 20 minutes for a server to greet us while other people around us were getting their orders taken even though they got seated after us. I understand their place is small and they might be understaffed but it seems you get better service if you sit inside than outside. Well dinner for four. hmmm, there are too many tables inside so the initial seating was forced. Finally we moved the table tight, but two can't get up till it's moved again. I added a star because the Shrimp Fahitas were hot and delish. That's where it ends. The single Chili Renello was cold on a cold plate. My beef taquitos were very good but lacked enough guacamole. Not just four table spoons. The rice n beans are served in individual square bowls, everyone gets two, plus water and drinks and you can imagine this table ran out of room. Our server didn't say what was still coming , so you asked. Now it feels like you are asking for too much , so it becomes , let's wait and see.
