I have always had a really good experience with the food at Amelia's. We have gone for their brunch as well as their dinner, and I think they have a great refried beans recipe! If you are able to go for brunch, I would recommend getting the Chilaquiles with both the red and green sauce! You will not be going wrong with this. Came here off of a recommendation, and while it was decent, it definitely didn't live up to the hype. When we entered the restaurant, I was immediately impressed with all of the accolades that Amelia's Kitchen seems to have accrued over the years. Maybe that set my expectations too high. We made a reservation, which I highly recommend, so we were quickly seated. but it did take a bit for someone to actually come and greet us and take our drink orders after being sat down. Then it was probably another 40 minutes before we actually got our food. I'm not sure if it was this lag time that affected the food quality, but several of my items were just lukewarm and some even cold? The star of the show was definitely, the molcajete. This came out sizzling and full to the brim with shrimp, nopales, chicken, asada, cheese, and lots of other goodies. In hindsight, I probably should've ordered one for myself. I went with the chicken mole enchiladas. Again, the sauce was okay but not super spicy, and it was a little cold, as was my side of rice and beans. We also ordered the mini birria chimis to share. and these were just OK, they tasted like frozen food. Overall, if you come here, I highly recommend getting the molcajete, but can't really vouch for any other items. Maybe we'll try it again on a less busy night. read more

I've been here several times and is becoming my favorite place for birria tacos. Whenever I go it is always busy with people waiting to be seated but I never have trouble finding a seat at the bar. First time here as we usually go to another mexican food place. Quite fast service and good food with a menu that can please many different tastes. Had the special combo plate with 1 taquito, 1 enchilada and 1 tamale. The taquito and enchilada were great, got the spinach tamale, eh it was very bland, probably try the beef tamale next time. The refried beans were superb, the salad had no dressing on it, wasn't sure if that was a mistake or if it is served that way, we just ate it as is. Overall the food was a little bit bland but decent. Food: (3/5) The tacos just tasted overwhelmingly like melted cheese. The meat was not tender or chewy, and it didn't really taste like anything. The rice and refried beans were in surprisingly small portions, and the jalapeno wasn't very spicy either. I would say that the portions are ok for the price. Wow, wow, wow!! We were craving Mexican while traveling and stopped by on a Saturday night. You know it's gonna be good when folks are waiting outside to be seated. The food was creative while maintaining that fabulous fresh, handmade Mexican flavor profile. Absolutely delicious! Pricing landed somewhere in the $$ amount per person including beverage and appetizer. Very fair for the level of hand-crafting going into every dish. We didn't have a reservation (highly recommend getting one for busy times) and were happy to sit where they could fit us. Our server Louie was EXCELLENT. He walked us through the entire menu in 3 minutes and we felt confident ordering. He also suggested an amazing appetizer featuring chilies stuffed with cheese and shrimp and wrapped in bacon . I ordered the Fajitas Mixtas for my main as I wanted to try several meats. Hubby ordered the shrimp enchiladas with both green and red sauce. Both were beautiful and delicious. I also tried the mocktail that had prickly pear puree. It was delicious and refreshing. The menu had options available for folks seeking Gluten Free, too. Amelia's was decked out with modern, slightly edgy decor that was welcoming and exciting. Seating for wheelchair users could easily be accommodated by dining table chair removal. The Oracle Street location isn't huge, but the staff does a fantastic job getting folks in and you won't feel cramped. So many years in Tucson, and how did I miss Amelia's before? The service was wonderful -- attentive, genuine, and kind. Came here for dinner with my fiance and his friend ,we haven't been here before. It's our first time and we had ordered chimichanga, tacos and shrimp ceviche, we also ordered a strawberry margarita, watermelon margarita and a tap beer. The food was good, but I can say the drink wasn't that all that good. Service is horrible waited 10 minutes after we sat in to ordered and the waiter we had wasn't even paying attention to our table. So after we ordered he never once checked -in on us to see how things are or if we needed anything. Till he saw us finishing up he ask "is everything ok". We just said yes everything was fine. We weren't happy. Ambience here you have a lot of people talking over everyone. It's so loud. They got an outside sitting area, but it was just few tables and chairs. Of the four of us who gathered to dine here last Friday, (late summer of 2026), three in our party raved about their meals, and had nothing but high-praise for the experience. We three, actually loved everything about AMELIAS. Us three (*let's just call them "the cool ones"), were wowed by the taste of our food and noted that the plate presentations were kinda cool-- and a little "more-fancy" than what is typically placed down upon the table at your typical Mexican food restaurants. AMELIAS adds a bit of "pizazz" and "decorum" to their menu items--like edible flowers that float in your margarita, or wavy lines of crema that dance on the seas of flavorful sauces that accompany the tamales, 'chiladas, and relleno plates served here. Three-forths of us also noted how attentive and friendly those who served us were. And... we (the cool ones) also all noticed how the warm, cheerful, and welcoming ambiance and decor of the place added to the enjoyment of our meal. (*Play Debbie-downer walk-up music) One in our group...(dramatic pause)... was notably quiet and reserved when it was her turn to rave about her dish. This person, smiled and shared that she thought her food was, "pretty good." But, now that I think about it...her praise was kinda limited, and she, indeed, was a bit reticent. I would find out later, as we lay in bed that night, that one in our group had not enjoyed her meal as much the other three had. Apparently, the cheese and chicken enchiladas dish that was ordered was not to this person's liking, and she added that she thought the service was "just okay". Not wanting to bring-down the mood of the evening, this person played along and didn't criticize. Now, I am not trained in psychology, but if feels like...(how do I put this delicately?)... okay. (*the writer thinks for a bit). Sometimes... when one in our party does not get to pick the restaurant that we are going to try, it seems to me... that...(dramatic pause as I try to find just the right words to say this).. I seems to me... that...This person is just, "not going to enjoy" the place that was picked, no matter how good it is. There! I said it. And while I'm on the subject... your mom is just like this too. And now you know the rest of my story. Let's summarize: AMELIAS is a very good restaurant and you will enjoy the heck out of your meal. Unless, of course, you insist on being the one who picks where your group goes out to eat-- and you don't get your way. Then, you will find it to be, "pretty good", but complain about it later in bed. (I know this is supposed to be a restaurant review, and not a mini-soap opera. Went to Amelia's for dinner tonight. This is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in Tucson. The food is excellent (we both had Quesoburria tacos with caldo, rice and beans.). It was busy, every table filled, but the service was excellent. Rubin T. was quick, friendly and attentive. We never had to ask for a drink refill or more chips, he was always a step ahead. I've been to both locations and I prefer the one on Oracle. Their menus at the Oracle location have better options, including their fajitas, which I ordered. I enjoy the chicken fajitas, but the rice was a bit unseasoned, so I wished they added more flavor to it. Also, I had the mocktail mango margarita, and it was yummy. Second, Luis, the server, was an excellent and friendly person. He was helping me to pick my food orders, and his recommendations were really good. We arrived about 12:30. They were short-staffed so it took a few minutes to be seated, but they communicated well and let us know it would be a minute. Our server, Brisa, was helpful and gave us some good recommendations. I had to go to get a passport renewal last minute and got hungry waiting for the print to happen. I looked for best brunch near me and Amelia's popped up as highly reviewed and I fell like nopales. This was my first visit to Amelia's Mexican Kitchen, and it was a standout experience. What truly elevated the entire visit was the incredible service from Rodrigo. From the moment we sat down, he was attentive, friendly, and incredibly efficient, checking in so often (perhaps too often) to make sure we were taken care of. He made us feel welcomed right away and kept everything running smoothly throughout our meal. As for the food, the birria tacos were amazing, packed with rich, flavorful meat and served with a delicious consommé dip for dunking. Every bite was better than the last. We had an amazing first visit to Amelia's Mexican Kitchen on Oracle Rd. Alexa took such wonderful care of us. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind, and she made our whole experience feel welcoming from start to finish. The hosts were kind too. There was plenty of seating, a dedicated bar, TVs, and nice lighting. The patio has misters, which is perfect for this time of year. They offer booth and table seating, and the tables aren't packed too close together. With party members who have different mobility challenges, the spacing was great and made everything comfortable. The food was delicious. The complimentary bottomless chips and salsa were fresh and generous. If you order the horchata, it comes with free refills too, which is such a nice touch. My husband ordered 2 birria tacos with caldo and loved them. My father in law ordered 2 ground beef enchiladas with red sauce, and my mother in law ordered 2 plain ground beef tacos. I shared the ceviche with my dad, which was fresh and flavorful, and we each ordered one Quesabirria. It was so good! Dessert was perfect. We tried the flan and the chocolate flan. The chocolate flan was a moist Bundt-style chocolate cake with flan on top. Both were creamy, delicious, and enjoyed by all of us. Absolutely loved our experience at Amelia's! After first going to the wrong Amelia's location, we were so happy we ended up at the right one. Great experience! First we started with frozen strawberry and mango margaritas. I dont even like margaritas but they were absolutely delicious. The drinks throughout the night were top notch. On the next round we ordered the award winning classic margarita and the prickly pear/jalapeno margaritas. They were delicious and so fresh. Didn't know margaritas could be so good. Highly recommend. I always care about chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. There's were good and we maybe snacked on too many before dinner. For dinner, I basically wanted to eat everything on the menu. I branched out and tried the molcajete mixto that came with steak, chicken, shrimp, cactus, stuffed bacon wrapped pepper all on a hot stone bowl. There's an absolutely delicious tomato sauce literally sizzling the entire time you are eating. I can't tell you how much I loved this. The sauce was so flavorful. The stuffed pepper was spicy and fantastic. It was so delicious that I kept forcing myself to eat more of it and almost got sick overeating. I still had over half leftover. My husband had steak fajitas which he enjoyed. The vibe of the restaurant is casual and fun. Saw kids and adults. The inside is much better than their other location. The service was absolute excellent. Our server Danny was extremely attentive and did an excellent job explaining menu items and bar choices. The food I tried was good. I enjoyed the mole with vegetable enchiladas. I always enjoy trying a new mole! The mole was slightly tomato-y, not something that I noticed in other moles I have had. I liked the flavor and also liked the texture. I think it wasn't as piping hot as I was dreaming it would be which affected my enjoyment of it a little. The vegetables in the enchiladas were cooked well. The refried beans on the side were smokey and flavorful and the black beans I got instead of rice had a good flavor too (I find that black beans sometimes tend to be more of an afterthought in some Mexican restaurants in my experience) I am glad they now have some vegetarian options that are dairy free and egg free too. I believe both refried and black beans, mole sauce, and red enchilada sauce are vegetarian. The Rice and the flour tortillas are not vegetarian here I believe They had heaters on their patio which was nice. The restaurant in general felt crowded when my husband and I were there like they were maximizing seating more people than they could actually handle both in terms of service and in terms of space. Service was bad and felt unwelcoming. We weren't checked on during the meal and when we finally got the attention of our waiter to tell him that we received the wrong item or when we asked for anything he was impatient and rude. If I come back to eat at Amelia's it would be at a less popular time in the hope for better and more professional service. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. The parking lot is not that big and you have to make a quick swoop off of Oracle to park. Just a heads up. I tried the spinach tamales with eggs over easy and had a michelada with Modelo Especial. An unexpectedly perfect combo is what I got, too! We were brought chips and salsa while we waited. My friend and I both loved the tomatillo one a lot. Chips were fresh tasting. Ever since my dinner at BOCA, I feel obligated to mention that the chips and salsa were not a separate menu charge. Francisco took care of us, another pro who asked us about food allergies beforehand, wasn't too hovery,perfect. Reasonably priced food. I had walked a section of the Loop with my dog and saw this restaurant was in the area. I had always wanted to try it. It was 4:45pm on a Friday and I knew it would be busy. The parking lot was filling up fast. Since I was by myself and my dog was resting in the car under a shade tree, I ate at the bar to free up a table. This was a wise decision as 30 minutes later all the tables were occupied. I can see why this place does so well. Everything about this restaurant is top notch: the food, the service, the ambiance. All the servers wear clean, professional uniforms(black shirt and pants for the men, white blouse and black pants for women) and work the floor as a team. I was impressed. No dirty plate is left sitting on the table. I ordered a chicken enchilada platter with both red and green sauce. The presentation was beautiful, with the rice, beans and salad served on a separate plate. I used some of the sauce for both the salad and beans. I was so full, I couldn't finish my chips that I got before the meal . Even the salsa was delicious. When I left at 5:30pm, the restaurant and the patio tables were full. One of the first meal impressions... The Fajitas are smmmokin'. The tables have inlaid turquoise. Water glasses look like cut crystal. Ambience is lively. Decor is colorful, eclectic. Seating areas throughout seem to have their own theme/style. PBS Cooking shows are on the tvs at and over the bar. My regret, we didn't order the Fajitas. We both ordered a Chimichanga. Ground Beef for my friend, with only rice, and I went with Carne asada or something similar with beans and rice, Christmas Style. When our entrees arrived I noticed no beans or rice on either one of our plates. So then I think it's going to be served on another plate and it's going to arrive in a minute or two. Imagine my surprise to find my Chimichanga has rice and beans INSIDE of it. Yeeuck. Don't fill my Chimi with filler. Beans and rice are an accompaniment, not the main dish. My excitement of trying a new restaurant was immediately doused. Guacamole contained excessive amount of onion. Red and green sauce had good flavor but lacked the heat I anticipated. Wow! I've been waiting to come here for awhile and it was worth the wait!! I tried going to the other location but the wait was so long. This time I made a reservation at this location with no wait. Food- delicious! We left super stuffed and satisfied. The serving sizes were very filling. The food came out really fast and tasted freshly made. The mini chimis were delicious- a surprisingly addicting snack with fun toppings. The quesabirria was one of the best I've had. Lots of meat and delicious dip without a sign of cilantro! It's so rare to find a place able to separate out cilantro. The rice and beans were seasoned so well too. The carne asada burrito was huge and the salsas on top made it truly delectable. Ambiance- very clean spacious and nice. I think there may have been some smoke in the restaurant which made it look a bit misty but it didn't smell like smoke at least.
