I think Tucson lacks authentic Chinese cuisine here but not when it comes to Japanese food. Nothing gets me more excited when I see a menu that serves up traditional dishes. Even though it was crazy hot outside I was craving a good bowl of udon noodles with tempura. My son ordered something I never seen before, Summer Ramen (Hiyashi Chu-Ka) and a few pieces of their sushi. Food was excellent as was the service! You won't be disappointed. We've been here several times, and I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review - we always leave satisfied with our meals. Their chirashi bowls offer a variety of fresh sashimi pieces, and the tempura is lightly breaded and not overly greasy. If you get the tempura dinner, it also comes with rice, miso soup, and a side salad with a tasty ginger dressing. We popped into Sushi Zona on Saturday evening for a drink quick sushi fix. It's super close to our home and we love it! Ambience, not a lot. Service? Always great! Food? Couldn't be better. Never had a bad meal. Ever! And reasonable as far as sushi goes. The restaurant was a little warm inside but it was tolerable. Our server was good and our food was prepared quickly. I thought the food tasted fresh and was really good. I really enjoyed the miso soup to start with. They have some unique specialty rolls and they also have toro which I found out is tuna fat and I am told it's really good. I will have to try that next time. One roll was a little too smoky for me but my husband loved it. My rolls were great and overall it was a good experience. We got there at open so was seated immediately. Service was attentive and pleasant, so high marks there. Ambiance is that of any high traffic sushi place as not much, but it was clean. Started with two appetizers. The tempura as done right and hit the spot. The heartattack was a really undercooked jalepeno hardly stuff with ingredients. It wasn't spicey, but all you could taste was raw pepper. The sushi was alright, the rice did not taste fresh like it was dried out, so I guess it may have not just been made but last nights batch. Cute little sushi place! The staff were warm and welcoming, with very attentive service. Sushi rolls and sashimi was really good (nice, thick and good quality tuna sashimi). The shrimp shumai was also delicious, with a little side of HOT mustard. The mustard is pretty potent but amazing paired with the shumai. We've been coming to this Japanese restaurant since it took over from the shabu shabu place (I miss that restaurant so much, but I digress). Anyway, I would say prior to yesterday's order we would have rated it a 5. Love their ramen and udon dishes, their sushi is usually fantastic, service is pleasant and we would never hesitate in coming or ordering from here. Since the pandemic we've ordered from here twice. The first time about a month ago. Everything from that order was so good and consistent with our usual experience. Yesterday my kids wanted to have Japanese food for their birthday dinner so we ordered take out. It was....not good. The fish tasted *old*; from the yellowtail to the white fish it was all limp, watery, flavorless and the opposite of tender. The tuna was the worst nigiri I've ever had (it tasted like ammonia). The salad was wet. The tempura was dry. SO so disappointing. I don't want to be too harsh as I know it's such a difficult time with the pandemic. I wavered and wasn't sure if I should even write this review as we want to support local restaurants as much as we can, but I want to be honest. If a restaurant is having problems with a supplier or unable to get fresh ingredients for whatever reason, they should be honest with their customers. I would have preferred if they had told us that they weren't offering sushi because the quality was not up to par than to have a bad experience and waste money (we ordered close to $120 worth of food). I really, really hate to write less than positive reviews, but I hope they can do better going ahead. read more

Driven by a million times... always say oh need to try that place, and forget about it... Not today! Why have I waited so long! It was the best sushi I've had in Tucson. I don't go to that many places, maybe been to about 10 in Tucson and they've all been meh, so never really wanted to go too often... It was all so flavorful and fresh. Canyon roll and crunchy Tokyo roll were my favorite... I was disappointed in the spider roll, typically my fav but I think the fried crab was over cooked maybe? Idk...
