You know when something feels familiar and local it just feels right. I don't go here often but it has been a coffee shop as long as I can remember and always feels the same. The coffee is good the staff is a little Mad Max Warrior type. It's quiet and I'm always happy to be there. So if you want a good cup of joe at a local place. Tea was fine. Customer service was good, lady at the register was nice. The ambiance & vibe is where my issue is. I couldn't help but notice how many print out and written signs there are all over the place essentially yelling at customers. You can't hang out outside if you're not a customer (there's seriously like 4-5 of these signs saying this inside the small cafe), you can't use the restroom without key, service dogs only, do not form a line at the bathroom!!! I'm not saying these are irregular requests of a business, but the way they go about it makes the environment feel unnecessarily hostile. Also, there's all these 'do not' signs but none readily available for a WiFi password. read more

I'd like to give a 4.5 star review but that's not an option. I got an iced White Pony latte (caramel and white chocolate). It was good! The wait to order was long and waiting for the drink was long. There was only one person working, so that makes sense. The parking lot is tiny but I got lucky after driving around for a few minutes. I loved the vibe inside. Lots of plants but many of them are dying because they need water. Lol read more

I've driven past this place many times and I always see it open late into the evening and full of people. I don't really know of any coffee shops open in the late evening and I don't count Starbucks, so I was fascinated by it and decided to finally check it out. I'll start off by saying that parking is very limited here. It was a Thursday evening at 6:30 pm so I can't imagine how hard parking must be on the weekends. I came back through twice and no luck. I there there is maybe 6-7 parking spots. I ended up parking the car far away on a residential street and walking. When I got in the seating was mostly full. I am glad that have an upstairs as every bit of space helps. I found the coffee place to feel very cozy. The spiral staircase to go upstairs seemed a little scary. First thing I noticed is that they have many large tables capable of seating 4-6 people but several spots only had 1-2 people sitting there. I was in the coffee shop for a while and this seemed to be normal. They could benefit from a better layout of smaller tables as I felt we got very lucky finding a seat for a party of two. I didn't see any parties bigger than 2-3 people. The 4-6 person tables seemed to have an electrical outlet next to them and a light overhead, but I didn't see it on our 2 person table making it hard to read in this dark, cozy coffee shop. WiFi was good and they provide the password on a sign so you don't have to ask. The baristas and service were great. No complaints. Service with a smile. Coffee was good, but kinda overpriced. While I enjoyed my coffee, the lack of parking and seating affected my overall experience, especially with the higher prices. As much as I like to support a local business, I kinda don't wanna deal with the parking and seating, so just make note if you're going. However, I do have to say that I love the late hours. read more

First time studying here with a friend. Came around the winter time so there's holiday and Christmas decor. This coffee shop feels so cozy!! The hours are longer than other shops, nice for night owls. Seating tends to fill up quickly, but it's do-able to find a place. The wifi and access to outlets were good. They have a good assortment of drinks and a few pastries. I wish they had a little more food options, but it is more so a coffee shop after all. read more

Had a work late morning meeting at Black Crown. It was my first time there and you definitely get a more punk rock/ metal vibe. The had some hard rock/ metal playing in the background, but it wasn't too loud. There are lots of small tables inside and a few outside as well. I got a latte with sugar free hazelnut and my friend got a mocha. The barista was helpful and friendly. Both drinks were great and we had a good meeting. read more

Love the vibes in here! The baristas were super friendly as well. Got a dirty chai that was very ginger forward but yummy. Seems like a great place to study. read more

Laidback, funky coffeeshop with different tables and nooks to get work done. When we came in the afternoon, we actually couldn't find a free table and took our drink outdoors. There's a surprisingly a large variety of specialty sweet drinks on the menu, which would be great for those who enjoy sweeter coffees (like mochas). I tried an iced latte and it was decent. Service was a bit slow. read more

Came to do some travel planning on a midweek evening. The place was hopping and we almost couldn't get a table - we were lucky to be at the right place when a dude got up and we were able to snag his table. I got a hot cocoa and my partner got a coffee. They were fine, but pricey. I've seen many reviews call this place "cozy" and it is that in both the good and bad ways. It's small and dimly lit, but also not the most comfortable and not my aesthetic. I'm surprised to hear that people enjoy studying here and I wouldn't really want to come here on a date, either. I did find some political newsletters that I was down with, so I'm a fan of that. Not my fave but I'm glad they seem to have a solid following. read more

I didn't eat anything here. I had the black widow coffee and it was smooth, good flavor. I wish the price wasn't so high but that's the theme of everywhere. And make the large actually large. Mine was more a medium. The service was nice. Parking awful. I haven't gone till now because of the parking. Inside is cozy and a good spot to sit and chat or do school. Would return read more

Strong cold brew and no up-charge for plant milk :) It was about $4 for a 16oz cold brew with almond milk and $1 for a refill. It was strong which was just what I needed! They only have one vegan pastry option, and they said it changes about once a season - I'd like to see more options. It was about $4.50 for an orange muffin and it wasn't very good :( a bit small and dry. We went there midday on a Tuesday and it was not crowded. Although parking was limited and slightly confusing. The baristas were nice with answering all my coffee/food questions. All the tables seemed to have good access to outlet for electronics - the WiFi did start slowing down once it got more crowded, but overall good ambience. I would go back if I needed somewhere to work during the less busy times. read more

Long wait with only one barista on our visit. He was working hard! No pastries or food. Great selection of coffee drinks and more. Really eclectic and quirky space. Would def return! Parking was/is challenging and one of the reasons I have had a hard time returning. If you are nearby to the shop on Speedway, walking is ideal and many folks in the shop had walked there. Some friends were playing board games, so def a fun place to chill and have fun with friends. read more

I was a bit disappointed by the coffee at Black Crown--it didn't meet my expectations in terms of quality and taste, especially for the high price. The place is always busy, so parking can be a challenge. While it's nice that they stay open late, I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Love this local coffee spot. It's a classic feel with the building, spacial decor and the various game boards and cards available for use. I always order the black widow, hazelnut and mocha coffee. It's my go to and delish. The menu offers more from simple drinks to fancy lattes and even the occasional pastry. They offer WiFi with purchase, bathroom is available (one for all, all for one) and they have plenty of seating with an upstairs area, downstairs and patio. read more

I love this place! My power went out and I had to get work done. This spot has outlets at EVERY seat, a variety of seating: couches, chairs, booths, and a bar to stand at, and a clean bathroom. I've loved this place since it was safe house. If you know, you know. The cute little nook of a coffee shop has great options and I was served quickly as it's usually a one man band I was pretty impressed. I did go on a week day around 2-3pm and was surprised to see how many people were there. The parking situation isn't great, very limited parking so it's tough if you can't find a spot and when I went there unfortunately no inside seating was left, even upstairs. read more

Fabulous spot for coffee, tea, and snacks. They've done a good job at making this a substitute for bars- it's open late for a coffee shop! The coffee is quality with lots of house flavor options and their pastries are delicious. There's lots of seating up and down stairs, kind of has a tree house vibe to it. Games are upstairs so it's a good date spot too! I love working from here and making it a meeting point to catch up with friends/dates. read more

They have one of the bigger tea menus out of the local coffee shops which was exciting to see. I was also impressed to see how many syrup options they have and that one of their specials was strawberry whipped cream. A decent amount of baked good we had the jalapeño cheddar scone. That staff were friendly and fast. Ample amount of seating and lots of drink options in general to choose from! read more

I need a mug to drink coffee. I ordered a delicious drink that revolves around a Twix candy bar and it sounded amazing! But the cup that they use has a fowl taste to it. They are still in Covid/pandemic times and you have to yell around olexi-glass and they only accept cash. I get it...but at least have a cup that doesn't ruin your coffee taste if you're just going to serve to go. My whole day revolves around that first cup of coffee and this was mediocre flavor and experience- I frequent Tucson often so I will give them another chance...if I can get a mug and not a cup that tastes like sodium. read more

Why stray from the people's fave?? I got the Black Widow latte, iced and confirmed that it is yummy. It's like.. if you took an almond croissant and made it a drink but not too sweet. My partner got a drip coffee (black) and liked it too. You know it's bomb diggity if they do black coffee AND specialty coffees well. The staff are so friendly and there are plenty of seats for working remotely! Pretty quiet in here too. read more

The coffee and the ambiance here are great. Service was friendly and helpful. The only reason I knocked off a star was the lack of seating and if you managed to find a seat outside, it was too loud to have conversation. Some nicer seating options out back would kick it to five stars. read more

Overall, this is a great place to go to if you're looking to chat with friends or get some late night studying/work done. The WiFi is strong, there's good outlets around, and there's a lot of seating both indoors and outdoors. I like the drinks they have here, I wish they had more tea options though since sometimes I'm trying to get some work done late and coffee can be too much. However, I'll usually opt for an Italian soda or try to see what non-caffeinated options they have available. They do have some pastries, but nothing fancy. The parking here is a pain. Usually because it's super packed and there's a lot of people. There have been several times where I've come in hoping to get some studying or work done, and unfortunately it's so packed that I have to go somewhere else. Good for them for having a great business that everyone wants to go to, so I can't blame them for that. Like I said, good place to go to for a coffee date if you're meeting someone off the apps, or a good study/work spot if you need to get work done. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the parking sucks. read more

This is my go-to local coffee house for when I want to get some work done. It feels very homey inside, with 2 levels full of quirky art and plants. Upstairs you can look out the window and sit at the bar, or chill on one of the couches. Everyone that comes here is super cool, and it feels like its own little community. The wifi is always very fast, and you're welcome to hang around for a couple hours. I love that it's open late. It used to be open 24 hrs before COVID, and it would be nice to bring that back but I'll take what I can get in this day and age. The drinks are great too! They have caffeine free options, and their coffee is strong. read more

Coming to Black Crown for the first time, I was skeptical having seen the old and worn exterior. But on the inside it was warm and dimly lit, playing shoegaze music while everyone was chill. I could get used to working here...it's almost as quiet as a library, and from the second floor one can gaze out into the mountains and it feels like nothing can ever bother you. The roast itself is above average so you don't need to have anything super sweet or fancy. Not to say sweet tooths won't be satisfied with mixes like "Breastmilk" (an extra sweet vanilla latte) or "Turbocoke" (Straight up espresso in coca cola). You won't catch me with anything silly like those, but I find myself looking forward to a plain, peaceful cup of coffee here again soon. read more

I always enjoy going to Black Crown when I've got to hunker down and study. Most of the people I come across are also studying, so it makes for a nice atmosphere. I just moved to Tucson last week and I have already been to Black Crown like 5x. I am a huge mocha and chai fan so when I saw their signature drink menu and noticed that they had a drink called "Dark Matter" which was a mix of the two, I was intrigued and pretty excited. My high hopes were met and I have gone back multiple times to get the same drink. It's worth noting that they do offer multiple alternative milk options, if that's a must for you. The ambience of the place is very laid back and seems quiet enough to hang out with friends or get some work done in. The place seems small and the parking lot and tables inside fill up quick but they also have additional seating upstairs and outside. Another thing I love is that they are open until 12AM. I havent tried any pastries or food yet but I am sure I will one of these times. The prices are sort of high (average for "craft coffee") but not something that will deter me from going back time and time again. Love this place!! read more

Reminds me of the classic Austin, TX coffee shops that have some character. Ambiance - It's a bit dim on the inside. There wasn't as much seating due to COVID social distancing and the upstairs area was closed, but there was outdoor seating. We got super excited thinking there was an outlet available outdoor, but it didn't work. Service - Efficient and friendly. Food - Lots of options on the menu. § Tarheel was delicious with a good espresso base but was a bit too sweet for me. We also had a vanilla iced latte that was good as well. Overall, nice place with some character. Wish there was more seating, but had solid coffee options. read more

Decent local coffee shop, but loud. We got a hot chocolate, an Irish cream Italian soda, a white chocolate Italian soda and three chocolate croissants. We all agree the croissants were good, but they would have been better if they were warm. The drinks were all good quality and were prepared quickly. We also bought some stickers to support the local cat shelter (cash only) which are adorable and a reasonable $2 each. It's everything you expect from a local coffee shop, but if you prefer a quieter place, this is not it. read more
