This was a nice surprise. I was actually on my way to a different Mexican restaurant nearby but then saw this place I'd never heard of. So I opted to stop in here instead as it was just past 11am and I had been fasting earlier for a blood test. It was a Wednesday late morning (today) and I was the third table. The server was very helpful in letting me plug in my cell phone as it was low and I hate driving back to Sierra Vista with less than 40%. I got excellent service from everyone who came by. I ordered a lunch combo: a chicken taco dorado and chicken enchilada with rice and beans. The enchilada sauce here is outstanding! I licked the plate clean, it was so good. The Wednesday lunch special is chicken mole for $13.99 but I discovered that too late. I had water to drink which came with a slice of lemon. The ambiance is a bit on the dry side, with high ceiling tin ducts, but the place is spacious and there is probably room in the dining area for two more tables for four without getting crowded. The place offers breakfast items AND alcoholic drinks as well. No chips and salsa to snack on without paying, though. read more

Visited this spot a couple weeks back. Thought the food was pretty good. I remember this used to be a Chipotle, and they haven't done much renovations yet. They are fairly new, so perhaps that's still coming. They have many specials. Overheard about a special they have where if you shop at Trader Joe's (next door) and show your receipt you get a discount. read more

We were there as a big party (15), but that's how we travel pretty much everywhere The food took almost 2 hours to come out When it started coming out some people had their food long enough to finish before others got theirs. We stayed because we were talking with family from out of town. We went on a separate occasion as a small group (4) The food also took a long time - came in pieces. The kicker, the guy in front of me-seemed like the owner- was talking to us "upselling" little did we know "Try this"watch I'll bring some" Then boom, it was on the bill. It's a locally owned cafe beside Trader Joe's, and was larger inside than expected, with a simple decor. The staff were all very friendly. We had an early lunch. I thought the food needed more flavor for the tacos and sopas, but it was okay. read more

I happened by here this morning on my way to their neighboring business, Trader Joes. As I was about to enter T-Joe's, I saw Trocadero's "breakfast deal of cafe's day" signage out front. Although it was approaching 11 am, I had forgotten to eat anything today and it beaconed me in. Friday's breakfast special is a classic from Americana (a pancake, two eggs, two strips of bacon, and a side of potatoes, and toast--although personally, I opted for refried beans and tortillas instead. I ended up being a very good choice...and I was very pleased to have done so. Everything was really good. The pancake was fluffy and filling, the eggs tasted fresh and paired well with the tortillas and bacon. I created mini-breakfast burritos with my plate of ingredients and enjoyed each bite. A hot-sauce was brought to the table with the plates of food and added to the really tasty concoction I had created. My waitress was fabulous. That word, "fabulous", is so over-used now-a-days that it almost means nothing... but in this case, she really was exceptional. So exceptional that I think she truly earned the adjective, "fabulous". As I entered the diner, she welcomed me with a warm smile and gestured for me to sit where I would like. During my stay, she checked on me often and gave off the vibe of being sincerely hopeful that I would enjoy me stay. This is kinda goofy, but I kinda liked how she refilled my iced tea. After making a non-verbal gesture from across the dining room to see if I would like a re-fill (it involves eyebrows being raised with a quizzical look on her face while miming a "pouring a drink" with one's hands. That is the unspoken language of a seasoned server who pays attention to what's going on around them and uses all they have to communicate. We also engaged in a bit of friendly chit-chat where I learned a bit about the history of the restaurant (its origins started in the 1950's at a place in Nogales, Az before moving up north to the, "Dirty T"), and she shared a little about her personal journey in life. A few minutes later, Raul, the owner came over and graced me with his warmth and caring ways and we discussed the prospects of the Diamondbacks in a, 'Do or Die/ Must win" game that is on tonight. . I really enjoyed discovering this place and will return to try their other specials. One last comment... the place is set up with a very open floor plan, so you can see the chefs cooking. During the time that I was there, I enjoyed watching them create the dishes and interact with each other. It is my impression that the, "back of the house" folks seem to really enjoy what they are doing, that they also enjoy working together, and that they know how to cook up some tasty vittles. I like that vibe and think it bodes well for any organization that wants to be successful. read more

This restaurant has potential and is a in convenient location. The service was a bit slow and the food was decent. The red menudo was really good. The omelette was good as well as the chilaquiles. The breakfast burro was not that good (fell apart; perhaps better/fresher tortillas?). Kids pancakes were well received. We will try again for lunch. read more

This is definitely a hidden gem here in Tucson. The place was clean, and the service was wonderful. The real star of the show is the food. You can tell they make it to order. I had the queso birria tacos and my husband had an enchilada with green sauce and a beef taquito with rice and beans. He ate it so quickly. It was all so good. My husband and I wanted to try a new Mexican restaurant, and I'd heard good things about Trocadero. We went on a Sunday and found several large tables 8+ already there. When seated our drink orders were taken and delivered, but we had to ask for food menus. The server said they were very busy, so the food could take a while. I wish there were complimentary chips and salsa, because it took a while to have our food order taken. The food actually came out for us pretty quickly, but one table of more than a dozen folks got their food piecemeal - a couple of plates now, a couple more plates a few minutes later, and so on. We both ordered birria tacos, but the tacos did not seems like birria. The food seemed high quality and tasted good. The tortillas failed before the first bite. Upon paying I our bill read that we ordered carnitas; I wouldn't have thought that what we were served was carnitas, either - just shredded beef. If I were in the neighborhood again I would eat there, but would not drive across town like we did to eat there again. read more

The waiter brought waters never asked if we wanted a refill. I asked for lemon 3x finally brought at the end. All waiter refilled promptly were the paying drinks. You get charged $3.00 for iced tea refills! Server seemed overwhelmed, like it was his first day. Owner was there, never assisted the waiter. We were there at least 2 hours by the time we got our food. Very disorganized in their process. Very disappointed and embarrassed with our out of town guests. Very overpriced for the service and the quality, quantity & appearance of the food. chicken mole was ordered and the chicken was undercooked, toast was warm not toasted, Very understaffed for a busy Sunday morning. Solid joint! We both enjoyed our food. Huevos Rancheros was good. The sauce on that is not a blended sauce but that's not a complaint. It's just a different style. Ordered a burrito and chimichangas from the lunch menu. Burrito had good flavor however had to much animal fat in it and had to spit them out. The burrito was an average size and not as large as expected. The chimichangas were small in size . They should have served us 3 pieces to make up for the small sizes. For what the bill amounted, we did not get our money's worth. Rice, beans, and chips were also served in small portions. We will not be coming back to this store. Found this gem recently for lunch and it is now one of my favorite restaurants in Tucson. Everything from the service to the food to the presentation was excellent. I really wish I had taken a picture of the food - I was so impressed by the presentation and then the fact that the food tasted amazing was just perfect. Plus being vegetarian and having a preference for spicy foods, they were so accommodating to both requests and went out of their way to ensure it was perfect for us. We've eaten here plenty of times before and really enjoyed it, not so much this time. The service was very slow, even though we were the only ones there. She didn't seem to be in a big hurry to take our order. Our server didn't bring the chips and salsa until right before she brought our food and the chips were not very fresh. More like how they are after sitting out all night. Our food was not much better. We ordered the lunch special, one taco, one enchilada with rice and beans. The rice was cold, the beans lukewarm. The cheese inside the enchilada was not melted, more in the lines of coagulated. The whole beans, which are usually my favorite there, had little flavor and didn't seem fresh. The regular chef was not there and the woman who was, I saw her put the beans in the microwave just prior to the food coming out. We were very disappointed this trip. read more

Here in Tucson, solidly good Mexican restaurants are not hard to come by. Harder to find is a Mexican restaurant with distinctive specialties beautifully prepared. Standard items on Trocadero's menu are very good, but I would direct your attention to the Chef's Specials. If you have never before eaten sopes, now is your chance! They are savory and toothsome. The accompanying salsas are fresh, light, and flavorful--almost brothy. Eggs are perfectly cooked to order. The atmosphere is clean and bright, but even more important to us is the attentive, friendly, prompt, and accurate service. Trocadero has two new superfans. We'll be back soon! read more

Wow, after all the rave reviews we went on a Saturday afternoon and we left wondering why. When we arrived one table was occupied and no one came in after us. A review had said best relleno they ever had. Not even close. The clump of cheese was flavorless and the fried batter almost disintegrated around a bland chile, which I didn't think was possible. The overall portions of food on the plate were ridiculously meager. You won't have leftovers and you'll still be hungry for some good Mexican food. Just no. Service was good. read more

It was really really good! Service was prompt, food was really good, and prices were so reasonable. We were seated promptly and received our beverages right away along with fresh made chips and salsa a few minutes later. Salsa was a bit different and kinda watery. I had Mexican salad that had corn, beans,,lettuce cukes, to atoes and cubes of cotijo cheese and tortilla chips. I topped it with chicken which was freshly grilled and cooked perfectly! Hubby had a carne asada burrito with everything inside. He loved it. I can't wait to go back and try the soups...they had three that day...tortilla, menudo and fideo. I stopped in for lunch after my volunteer shift down the street. The service was acceptable and the food pretty decent. No leftovers but that was okay. The reason for only 2 stars? I paid my bill with a credit card and left a $4 cash tip on a $17 bill. They added a $1 tip to my credit card. I sent notice thru their website contact info and nothing was done. So they will lose my business because of $1 and dishonesty. Too bad since my family loves mexican food so much. read more
