Cheese enchiladas had NO flavor at all, it was like tomato sauce on corn tortillas. Beef mini chimis tasted like denti more beef in a can, chicken minis a little better. Rolled beef taquitos had like no beef in them. Pozole was very salty. Beans, a main staple in a Mexican restaurant, had no flavor or salt. Fruit salad smelled bad, looked bad and old. Rolled chicken taco came out cold inside. On a high note the server was awesome and very on it. Bathrooms are so small I hope you're not a big person. Not handicap friendly if you need assistance. Two words TASTELESS and OVERPRICED. We used to love this place before it caught on fire. It reopened about 7 months ago and this is the first time we've tried it. It was horrible. We got the three enchiladas with no beans or rice (because that's what we used to get). They were absolutely tasteless. Our bill was over $41. Unbelievable. We will never go back. I have gone two times since they reopened. The first time I went for the lunch buffet. There was a significant waiting list to get in the restaurant. After waiting for several minutes we sat down and placed our drink order before proceeding to the buffet line. The food was amazing and the service impeccable. I love the decor of the restaurant. The second time, we went for the breakfast buffet. Again we had great service but this time the food wasn't as good. The menudo was undercooked and the panza was tough. This place was recommended by our customer since we were not from the area. I have gluten sensitivity so it was hard to communicate that to the staff who were super nice! So I opted for the rolled corn flautas . Super delicious!!! Both the chicken and the beef. My associate had the special chimichanga and was super pleased. TL;DR Ate before 5 in an empty restaurant and it took 45 minutes for the food. It was good though. We stopped in Crossroads on a recommendation from a local, and we're seated around 4 PM. The restaurant wasn't very busy, and we were seated quickly. Two of us got the Sonoran Hot Dogs, one tacos and one a beef burro. Sadly, it took 45 minutes for the food to arrive. This was my first experience eating the Sonoran Hot Dogs and they are crazy good. The tacos had a crazy good, crack-like sauce on the side. The burro was meh. Pretty bland tasting. Crossroads is one of the first Tucson institutions we began visiting almost 12 years ago & after over a year...we finally went again without disappointment. We've taken quite a few family & friends for a meal & never had a bad experience. After seeing numorous family restaurants closed because of dumb politicians, it was awesome to find them open & to give them some money. Saturday afternoon gave them plenty of business & as usual, live local music. The crowds are diverse. Large & small families, dates, friends. They have a buffet on Sundays & it was always quite busy in the past. We were seated under the bull, which made me terribly happy. Even though we contemplated a different dish or 20, we went for mixed fajitas..have to ask for them, they aren't on the menu. Steak, chicken, shrimp, along with rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole. All meats were cooked perfectly. We added a super nacho with carne asada & chicken. We piled fajita onto nachos & had a wonderful lunch. As usual, the portions were so large the two dishes could have easily fed 4 to 6 people. We took home 3 large clamshells of leftovers. We didn't add any drinks. The experience was a $40 bundle of joy. Went home, watched The Sound of Music & took a nap. read more

I get but dont recommend if & only if your very picky on your carne seca. Its not dry , i love my seca dry but this place still has good flavorful carne seca , i always get it in a chimi with rice and beans . Recently i think they just started adding sourcream and guac with your plate . We have so many great choices in this area for Mexican food, and given we had never been here we thought we would give it a try. The moment we discovered it was a breakfast buffet (and only $10 plus change) my husband was ALL in. The first thing that I loved about Crossroad was their parking spaces. They just seem huge to me, so no cramming cars in and getting door dings here. The service was great, yes even though it was a buffet (although you can order from the menu). The server checked in often for drink refills and cleared plates. There was also a lady making eggs to order plus waffles/pancakes in the small buffet area. While the buffet area is small there is plenty to choose from when you think Mexican breakfast food. Chilaquiles, Chile Rellano, Pozole, Menudo, Potatoes, Beans, Calabasitas, and the list goes on. I came in for lunch. It wasn't busy, It is a Monday though. I got seated fast. My waitress was pleasant. I got a basket of chip right away with a salsa and a little dish of limes with out having to ask. I had water to drink and ordered the Monday Special of shredded beef burrito for 8.99 I added enchilada style that is a little extra charge. The food was good the meat had a nice flavor. The rice was a little salty and dry. One thing did bother me thought as I boxed my left overs I say a bunch of dark colored baby ants. I put my phone light on to make sure I was seeing right. I immediately told the waitress and she said she will not seat no one there. I hope she tells her manager so they can take care of that issue. We were in Tucson visiting family and decided to stop by this restaurant on a recommendation. We showed up around 9AM and werseated quickly by the hostess and she took our drink order. She also offered a full menu or we could try the breakfast buffet at our leisure, so we opted for the buffet. There was tons of fresh, hot food which included chorizo and eggs, chilequiles and fresh breakfast potatoes. There was also an assortment of fresh fruit and tortillas as well. Everything tasted great, although around an hour after eating, my wife and I both had stomach cramps which ended up being food poisoning... no bueno... Stopped by because we had a bogo coupon. The place was cute inside and reminded me of a typical traditional Mexican restaurant. The complimentary chips and salsa were decent... the chips could have been more fresh and a larger portion of salsa would have been nice. I did like the limes though! I opted for the steak fajitas and my boyfriend went with the shrimp enchiladas. The food came out quick but was simply lacking flavor. I had to salt my food generously. The steak itself was over cooked and the vegetables were undercooked. The rice and beans were also bland. Great find! We chose the breakfast buffet which if I remember right was 1399 each you get your drink with that, ( coffee soft drinks etc.) the choices are wonderful we will definitely go back but next time I want to try the lunchtime buffet which I believe runs from 11 to 2 but you'd have to check and then at night there is no buffet the help is great the service is fast and friendly and the food taste just perfect ,Thumbs up and we will see them again read more

20 years ago, when I lived in Phoenix but was in Tucson for business a lot, this was my go-to restaurant. They had liver ranchero style and it was delicious. Then they stopped carrying it, so I stopped going there as it wasn't convenient to get to with regards to where I was staying while in Tucson, Friend and I decided to try it as neither of us had been there in years. Walking in, it looked the same. We were seated right away at a clean table. I saw no liver on the menu but did see lengua (tongue) which I love. The server was nice and knowledgable. Friend ordered carne asada Topopo salad (she orders it pretty much every time we go to a Mexican restaurant); I ordered Lengua Ranchera. The chips and salsa were really good. After a 10 minute wait, the server gave her her Topopo salad, and tried to give me an enchilada platter. I told her no, that I had ordered lengua, so she took the platter back. Friend started by removing huge slices of carrots all around the side of the salad. Just as she got them all off, the server came back and said that wasn't her salad - that it was a chicken Topopo salad and took it back. So we sat there and 5 minutes later, the server was back with what appeared to be the same salad. Friend dug down to the meat and it was chicken. Again the server was back, saying that that was a chicken Topopo and took it back. As this is happening, the table across from us mentioned that they were waiting on a chicken Topopo salad (two of them had been served their food; one was waiting on her salad). Another 10 minutes passed. We were given our food. The table across from us was still waiting on the salad. Friend dug down and affirmed that is was carne asada Topopo. My plate looked great. Lots of lengua, rice and beans. I tried the lengua and it was bland with no discernible spices. The onions and peppers were ok but again, no flavor to the food. Lengua is very bland so it needs some help in the flavor department. I looked at friend's food and asked her what was the gray stuff on her fork. She laughed and said it was the meat. She then stated that it was the worse salad she'd ever had. There were also no beans at the bottom of the bowl. Finally the table across from us got the chicken salad - after the other two people with her had cleaned their plates. The server asked us 4 times if we wanted water. We said yes; she brought water the first time. The next 3 times that she asked and we said yes, she didn't bring any water - just kept coming back and asking us if we wanted water. On top of that, there was a party going on in the room next to us with a woman singing. The music was WAY too loud - friend and I couldn't hear each other and had to shout. So all in all, not a good experience which was sad. As we were leaving I asked friend if they should get one or two stars on Yelp; she said one star so that's the rating I'm giving. For a restaurant that's been in business for YEARS, this is unacceptable. They should have service and food down to nothing but excellent. read more

Very satisfying meal! Crossroads does not disappoint especially if you're hungry. Even the appetizers are in big servings. Their salsa with the complementary chips is prob one of the best ones in Tucson. Some of my fave dishes include the carne seca, and the mole, but honestly can't go wrong with anything in the menu. It also helps that all the servers and staff have great customer service skills. Def a local favorite and one of the numerous Mexican restaurants in the area worth a try. read more

You ready for heart-thumping, ear piercing, holiday-inspired, Latin-fusion Christmas music to go with your Sunday brunch? Step right in. Good. God. That was a first. Usually the live DJ might be spinning a mix of what generally sounds like mariachi, modern banda, tejano and norteño. But, no, not today. We were listening to what sounded like a pimped out version of "Holly Jolly Christmas" with several more trumpets than necessary. But I so enjoy this place. I have been a patron of Crossroads since I was, well, a college student. The prices are beyond reasonable and you get a nice sampling of food. Be forewarned: the parking lot seems like it was built before vehicles were made to carry 15 people at once. It's a great place for families, and families will frequent in large numbers. So will tourists, probably because it's can so easily be described kitsch. The interior decorating is bright and busy. You'll even find booth seats made out of what appears to be part of reused, antique wagon wheels. I would say the buffet is the best way to go -- but take note and call in advance. Word was that the buffet ended at 2 p.m., but it had ended well before noon on this particular visit. The breakfast buffet has a mix of standard Mexican and American fare. You'll find scrambled eggs, chilaquiles, bacon, sausage, refried beans, tortillas, a salsa station, fruits and a sample of other offerings. For lunch, they serve the likes of salad, tacos, chimichangas, tortas and will usually have a couple of soups, including menudo. I'll call it: It's a tourist trap. It's true! There are a number of Mexican and Mexico-inspired restaurants in Tucson of the same rate that fare much better than Crossroads; restaurants whose food is fresher and comes with more flavor, including Mosaic Cafe, Mi Nidito and *some* Mariscos Chihuahua locations. But I imagine I will always return to Crossroads. read more

My favorite dish is the Shrimp Fajitas, they are absolutely delicious! Plentiful portion loaded with perfectly cooked shrimp seasoned just right! So damn good! You guys, THEY HAVE A BUFFET! A Mexican food buffet for breakfast AND lunch. The last 2 times I came with my family all because I was craving a bowl (or 2, maybe 3) of pozole, and my mom hadn't made a pot of the stuff in a while. Sure there are better places in South Tucson, but this is my fave in the area, and every time I go for the buffet. Not sure if it's during the week, but on the weekends they have a dj. I'm picky and I don't have a refined palate, so I get the same thing every time, so I get a plate full of rice, followed by another plate of calabacitas, mini chimis, the meat and potatoes dish, and picadillo, and 4 tortillas. Also a bowl of pozole. They do have menudo (y'all are nasty for eating this) and birria, which is also tasty. They have a cart with fruit, onion, cilantro and salad mix. It's across the street from Rigo's which can possibly rival this place. read more

Food presentation looked good, but plates of food were made up ahead of time in an effort to expedite serving, which wasn't really an issue to begin with. All of the plates were cold, and there's nothing worse than cold Mexican food. Mini chimis, beans, rice, chips, etc. were cold and lacked flavor.
