Upon arriving home, the wings were quickly decimated by our guests. The fact that they were gobbled up so fast and raved about, is probably the best and most-honest evidence that the numerous five-stars ratings given to WINGS & RICE are "spot-on" in their assessments. The place is "kind-of unassuming"--as it sits on the south-east corner of Pima and Craycroft in Tucson. Despite the fact that I have passed it numerous times-- wondering about it, and even considered giving it a go, I ultimately have never stopped in. Shame on me, as i we came to really enjoy the food here! This does then beg the question... "How many other hidden gems like this have I been passing by?" But then, in the bigger view of it all, isn't this the primary reason that YELP exists?! I think YELP got its name from the sound a dog makes after being kicked--which is what should have happened to me for passing this place so many times. I tried their culinary creations at the Food Truck Round up at The Shelter. I stopped at this food truck first because I recognized the truck from an event at the Pima Air & Space Museum. Turns out he is also the corporate chef at the Flight Grill located at the museum. Patrick is super awesome and friendly....and from there all the magic happened.. My BF and I scanned the menu and knew it was going to be delicious. We tried the 3 tapas for $7 deal and it was killer! It's especially perfect for those of us who suffer from indecisiveness in the presence of so much delicious food. Each item I was packed with flavor in each bite! My boyfriend and I picked the first 2 tapas (the Vietnamese Pork Sandwich, the Orange Chicken) and we left it to Patrick (the owner) to surprise us with the 3rd item. Pastrami isn't one of my faves, and this one was kinda on the dry sice. The hotdog had tons of sauerkraut, which was great since I LOVE kraut but the hotdog was just a hotdog. The bread bun was a very soggy by the time we got to it, so I didn't like that part at all -- due to the copious amount of kraut. We also got to try the potato knish and that was good! It's a potato-cake crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside. I've had knish before at Benjie's -- the meat kind with gravy -- and it was gross! This potato I could eat again. I'm still standing by the Reuben I had on my first visit!
