I was always hesitant to go to The Parish because the menu is pretty heavy on the meat, but I was ready to explore because my family really wanted to dine there. To my great surprise, I had a couple of great options, so we dove in! Three appetizers -- Blue Cornbread, spicy edamame, and the Brussels sprouts -- and all were excellent! I devoured the edamame -- yummy AND healthy. I asked to have the candied pecans on the side of the Brussels sprouts, but unfortunately, my request was ignored. They were still delicious, but since I don't do sugar, I had to pick around the sauce and pecans to enjoy what I could. We had four different entrees (I missed a few pics), and all were very good. However, some of our requests, like the pecans, were completely overlooked. I asked for the salmon roe on the side, and it came right on top. My kid asked for a medium-well steak, and it came very, very(!) pink. Paying attention to these little nuances would have taken our experience much further. Still love the place, the vibe is still outstanding as is the food. Sat at the bar today and the BT was very pleasant and provided amazing service. I started with an ice cold beer which was well appreciated on a day where temps hit 100 degrees. For sustenance I ordered a shrimp poboy, with remoulade instead of tartar sauce, with a cup of red beans and rice on the side. Both were delicious and quite filling. Also was impressed that the owner actually comes out and talks to his customers. The fish was perfectly breaded and fried, really enjoyed it. They have some nice pasta dishes which a couple of our guests ordered and really enjoyed. The service was good - our waitress got us our drinks and checked on us while we were having our entrees. The ambiance is a bit odd - kind of dark, velvet-backed seating, etc. I suppose to emulate the opulence of the French Quarter. Just be aware that it is not brightly lit. Hands down the best pasta I've ever had, no exaggeration. The drunken angel is creamy, savory and absolutely mouth watering. I'm still craving it. All the dishes we tried were so good. My parents loved both their dishes as well! Highly recommend trying them if you make a visit to Tuscan! The eclectic decor was the best thing about this place. My guy and I tried Guedry's Gumbo and added shrimp. We love gumbo normally, but this wasn't anything special. It was very peppery, heavy on the rice vs protein, and very unmemorable. The hush puppies it came with were really nicely cooked and had a good crisp to them. I enjoyed the gumbo only when dipping the hush puppies in them. For dessert, we tried the Pickle Berry Pie since we had never heard of anything like that before. Every bite was a punch of flavor and not in a good way. There was just too much going on and it became overwhelming after the 2nd or 3rd bite. Interesting to try, but I would not get it again nor recommend. This was the most expensive gumbo I've ever had and it was probably the least satisfying. Ambiance is western saloon with a quirky feel. We got there at lunchtime so there's a 35 minute wait. We opted to seat at the bar instead of doing the wait outside. The bar tender was so nice, fast and quick with our drinks and in taking our order. We had the gumbo and a burger. Highly recommend both, the gumbo has a kick to it but if you want more they do offer a bottle of hot sauce. The hush puppies have chopped jalapeño on it so it's a nice kick to it as well. Went here with my family for Father's Day. FYI: Their menu changes from time to time, and their prices have gone up, so don't expect everything to match what you've read in older online reviews. Food We were seated immediately because of our reservation, and the host promptly brought us tap waters. We don't drink tap water, so we asked for them to be taken back. We started with five Hush Puppies, which were very good. My husband ordered the Father's Day special: half a rack of ribs, fried macaroni topped with coleslaw, corn rattlers, and collard greens. The presentation was nice, but he kept finding small pieces of cartilage in the ribs that he had to spit out. The collard greens were very basic and lacked flavor. Honestly, canned GLORY Foods Seasoned Southern Style Collard Greens are much better. The fried macaroni, however, was excellent and everyone enjoyed it. Our daughter ordered the Drunken Angel. I've had it before, and it's excellent. She loved it and shared bites with the table. My mother-in-law ordered the Shrimp and Grits and enjoyed it. My father-in-law ordered the Catfish with fries. He finished the entire plate but repeatedly commented that he wished there was salt or vinegar available. In fact, everyone at the table felt their food needed salt--except me. I ordered the Smokin Angel, a vegetarian burgundy pasta with smoked tomato sauce, cherry tomatoes, spinach, and goat cheese. Unfortunately, it was overwhelmingly salty and dominated by poor-quality smoke flavor. I'm a home cook who regularly uses a smoker. To me, it tasted like the tomatoes were exposed to dirty gray smoke. Whether the fire wasn't burning properly, the temperature was too low, the smoker was opened too often, or too many items were cooked at once, the result was a harsh smoke flavor. I only managed a few bites before pushing the plate away. Our daughter finished the meal with bread pudding, which she enjoyed. Service This is where the experience really fell apart. The host who seated us was prompt, professional, and did an excellent job. Unfortunately, our waitress, Rainy, was inattentive, gruff, and disrespectful throughout the evening. It took 15-20 minutes just to get drink orders, another 10 minutes to receive them, and only then did she remove 4 of the 5 tap waters. Oddly, she left one water and an empty beer can directly in front of me where my plate would go and left them there for the entire meal. She also approached from behind several times and bumped into me repeatedly. We then waited another 15-20 minutes to place our food order and about 30 more minutes for the food to arrive. We also had to request additional utensils because the table wasn't fully prepared when we were seated. Another nearby table appeared deeply unhappy as well. We overheard them say it took 40 minutes just to get their drinks. When our food arrived, only 4 of the 5 meals were delivered. My mother-in-law had to wait several additional minutes for hers. To us, that's poor service and basic restaurant etiquette was missed. Later, when my mother-in-law requested to-go boxes, Rainy set a tall stack of boxes directly in front of me, bumping my chest, arm, and shoulder, then proceeded to explain how to package leftovers as though I weren't even a customer. I was genuinely shocked by the interaction. Everyone at our table commented throughout the evening that she was rude, unfriendly, dismissive, unprofessional, or disrespectful. My mother-in-law also asked for two bags, but Rainy ignored the request. Another waitress brought them in less than 30 seconds after being asked. Atmosphere The atmosphere itself remains pleasant, and we enjoyed spending time together as a family. However, some employees came across as rough around the edges, which detracted from the experience. Value No one at the table felt the prices matched the quality of the food or service. It was simply WAY too expensive for what we received. We've had Raymond as a server before, and he was great. This time we had Rainy, and she was awful. Honestly, I've decided I'll just make this type of food at home from now on, especially the Drunken Angel. The meal was not worth the price, the drive, the poor service, or the overall experience. What's most disappointing is that this restaurant used to be one of our favorites. Exactly one year ago, I left a five-star review because I genuinely loved it. Now, however, there seems to have been a noticeable decline in both service and quality. I lived in the south for a couple of years and, by far this is the closet southern food, I found in Southern AZ. The oysters were season and cooked perfectly, and they had crystals hot sauce.
