We were looking for a more upscale sports bar experience, and this place delivered. The interior has a regal feel, with red velvet booths and chairs and dim lighting that adds a touch of elegance. The bar is definitely the center of the action. Our bartender was extremely busy, but she still managed to check on us regularly (kudos to her for that). For drinks, we ordered a house Cabernet Sauvignon and a draft beer, both were great. For snacks, we tried the chicken wings: half honey sauce (our favorite, crispy and delicious) and half bourbon. The bourbon wings had great flavor, though we felt they were slightly undercooked. Prices are very reasonable. The bathrooms were clean, but they were missing paper towels. Came in for a late lunch and was greeted and seated immediately. Was blessed with Kilkenny Irish cream ale still on tap after st Patrick's day so we knew it was going to be amazing. Drinks were brought so promptly we were really impressed and my husband's black and tan was a perfect pour. They have the usual pub food on the menu but they also have the best Irish dishes! The shepherds pie looked incredible and so did the chicken pot pie. Both came out perfectly cooked and FULL of goodness. I got the Reuben which could have used a tad more sauerkraut but overall was perfection because the meat was tender and there wasn't too much sauce. Hubs got the wings and the Irish nachos that he rated delectable. Incredible service really did top off the visit perfectly. I oddly had a fish and chips craving, so we went here. It's out of the way unless you live on this end of town. We were happy to see that they were open until 10, but just fyi, "last call" for food was at 9 pm, keep that in mind as they did turn people away. Guinness pore was perfect. It is a Guinness certified establishment. Really done up like a British pub. Dark wood and such. The food was underwhelming to be honest. I would recommend trying first for happy hour, I could see how that might be good here. I guess I wanted the fish and chips to be better. It's was pretty oily. Yes I know it's fried, but I know I've had really well fried fish that adds instead of drowns. The serving of coleslaw was a 2 oz but I'm sure if you're downing beers you aren't there for the coleslaw anyway. Waitress was good, no complaints. read more

My wife and I went to celebrate my birthday and being from the UK, wanted to see how good their fish & chips were since some friends had recommended this place to us a few years back (but just never got around to going). Well, the fish & chips were "below average" and really a disappointment, so I'm not sure why some have reviewed them so highly. Overall, they were oily and the fish was not flaky but more mush-like and nothing like what I had in the UK just 2 years ago (or ever for that matter). The "chips" were French fries (chips in the UK are of the thick cut variety). They did, however, have malt vinegar. Although they do other Brit-style dishes (like shepherd's pie, bangers & mash, Scotch eggs), we were not very impressed and most likely not to return. I realize one is not going to get "just off the boat this morning" fish (as one would in the UK), but I've had better fish & chips at Culver's and other places in Tucson. First off, I missed the Corned Beef and Cabbage because I was in a 4-Day Fast - so sad... I had the wedge salad, no tomato and the Chicken & Mushroom sauce and both were delicious and hardly any impact on my blood sugar! The place was finally open! The Scotch eggs were good, but they were not served with HP Sauce. Mustard is a poor substitute. The entrée was good, but a bit oversalted. The sticky toffee pudding was not quite up to snuff; it was more a cake than a pudding. The service was good for a single person trying to man the bar and the tables. A friend and I stopped in for lunch. We were promptly greeted and seated. The restaurant was reasonably busy at 12:30 on a Wednesday. We perused the menu and both of us were torn between the Fish-wich, described as their famous flash-fried, beer-battered fresh cod with melted cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and tartar sauce served on a bun; and the Gourmet Grilled Cheese, cheddar and Monterey jack cheese melted between parmesan-crusted grilled bread, served with cup of homemade Tomato Bisque. So we did the logical thing and told our server we decided to order both and share. We had not been quite ready to order, so our server said she would drop a check off to another table and be right back. Apparently "right back" was twenty minutes later. We finally ordered. The food showed up about twenty minutes after that, which wasn't too bad, but by then we thought we were starving, lol. We had plenty of time to chat and decided that even though service was slow, if they split our orders in the kitchen, we'd pump up the tip. No such luck as the fish sandwich wasn't even cut in half and there was no way to share the soup. The fries were easy to share, so I divided everything other than the soup. The Fish-which was delicious. The fish portion was large and crispy, the tartar sauce was yummy, and toppings were fresh. The grilled cheese wasn't as successful. It was overcooked, resulting in no ooey gooeyness expected in a grilled cheese sandwich. In fact it was so hard that it was difficult to bite into. The parm on the outside made the bread very crisp and the taste of that was nice, but the inside cheese was firm and flavorless. Our server neglected to check on us, so I put my empty glass at the edge of our table. She did notice and refilled it. She asked if we wanted our check now or if we were going to "hang out" for a while. We said she could bring our bill but we were going to visit a while longer. Of course she brought the bill in the now-expected 15-minute timeframe. And of course another lengthy wait for her to collect the money. So, the verdict is the experience was average, hence a 3/5 rating. Sorry I forgot to take pictures, so I get 3/5 as well. read more

Canyon's Crown is a comfortable, friendly pub. We've been here for both carry-out and dine-in and have enjoyed both. Our latest dine-in experience was great. We were seated promptly, and a very welcoming server brought us our drinks while we perused the menu. We both selected fish and chips, which--happily--comes in two sizes. I got the single filet, and my partner opted for two. Our food came quickly and looked and smelled delicious. The fish is crisp and not greasy, and it comes with a homemade tartar sauce, lemon, and a small side of slaw. The fries also were crisp and tasty, but I was too full to eat all of mine! When you first walk-in the décor gives you that classic British pub feel. The waitstaff were great, but the food was disappointing. The fish and chips were served on a rather small plate, were super oily, and many of the chips were soggy. The Guinness Pie steak was chewy and the pie topping was made with biscuit dough instead of the standard puff pastry. Solid 3 stars. The food is standard. Not a single thing is above average. It is just good on a freshness and preparation scale. The service makes this place a return visit. Everyone we have ever encountered makes the experience worth coming back. They work hard and are all very cheerful. The staff gets 5 stars every time. Big draw for me: Dragoon IPA on tap. Worth the drive. It's always best if you get a booth or cozy for dining. Otherwise, you are in a high traffic zone which is noisy and distracting. All in all it is worth a visit. read more

We were very excited to try this place on St. Patrick's Day, especially as the reviews were predominately good. Unfortunately, our experience mirrored the one and two star reviews that reference tasteless, flavorless food with undercooked meat and vegetables. Sadly, this was a once-and-done experience for us, as we will NOT be back. A festive atmosphere on the front patio and inside, and the staff were friendly, cheerful, excited about the holiday, and attentive. Saw that staff had been passing out green bracelets and green Mardi Gras beads, which was a festive gesture, but they did not pass them out to everyone. Unfortunately, we were seated in the small second and isolated patio, which had shade, but lacked music, decorations, a festive atmosphere, and the tables were too close to one another; in fact, one woman asked to be moved for this reason, and we later wished we had done the same. But . . . let me get to the FOOD . . . which is why we went to Canyon's Crown. We'd originally planned to get the corned beef and cabbage, but wanted to start off with an appetizer of Scotch Eggs, which we expected to be served first, but it arrived at the same time as our Irish Stew entree and Traditional Pasty entree. The Scotch Eggs were good and the bread accompanying the stew was good. When ordering, I asked if the Irish Stew were made with Guinness, and the staff person said that it was. It arrived and appeared pale, so I doubt it. I have had Guinness Irish Stew and I have cooked Guinness Irish Stew, and this was not that. Worse, the stew was not particularly hot, the lamb was very undercooked and not tender, the potatoes were undercooked and hard, and the stew was shockingly tasteless, except for the effort to disguise the lack of any flavor by the excessive use of pepper and a hot spice. I have had FAR better stew out of a CAN! As for the Traditional Pasty, it arrived extremely hot, but the pastry shell was undercooked, the beef was undercooked, not tender, too tough to chew, and tasteless. My family member could not eat it, and commented that "one almost has to TRY to make food that tasteless and bad." In all fairness, a friendly manager came around and asked how everything was. It was a busy noon hour on St. Patrick's Day, so we opted not to say anything, but I could not look him in the eye as I said, "Everything's fine," and I am sure that my lack of enthusiastic tone conveyed that it was anything BUT fine. What I wanted to say was that our food was not only completely tasteless but too undercooked to eat, and the restaurant needed to find a new cook for the kitchen or the restaurant was going to fold (were the 4-5 star reviews associated with another cook in the kitchen? Was the kitchen short-staffed on such a busy day?). We declined to-go boxes and dessert, and left most of our meals uneaten--with my family member having removed all of the inedible beef from the pasty. We noticed that those seated near us had done the same--eaten only a small portion of their meals and declined take-home containers. So very, very disappointed, especially since the menu looks appealing and I love Irish food, grew up on Irish food, have eaten in Ireland, and have previously cooked the entrees that we ordered--so I know how fantastic these meals could've, should've, would've been, had there been someone in the kitchen who actually knew how to prepare them. read more

I love this restaurant! The atmosphere is inviting. The menu is full of delicious comfort food. My favorite is the Fish & Chips! But my family craves their Shepherds Pie and appetizers like potato crisps, pretzel bites (watch out for that incredible mustard!) and stuffed "footballs" - someday we will skip dinner and just order appetizers - nah, the dinners are too good.
