Bottom layer is diced onions & cucumber. Good job I requested a side of rice to make this a Main though $8 for some cilantro rice (already on menu Protein Bowl) is steep, esp when all other sides are $4-6 fries, Chorizo Beans $5, Salad $6??! While decent flavor, I grated ginger, sesame oil, Sambal and more soy to really make the poke pop on my leftovers. Extensive grounds with corn hole and games for kids outdoors, large patio with tables, neat open air bar with TVs with baseball on, built in bar tables in railings edge the lit trees and notices lots of patio heaters for cooler weather. Went to the Barnyard with friends last evening for dinner. The hostess and bar staff were friendly. However, our server was the worst we have had at a restaurant in a very long time. There was nothing wrong with the food and our drinks were delicious. Interestingly, the specialty drinks had no prices on the menu and my drink was $15 on our bill which was ok with me because it was very good. Our server was so rude throughout our evening. We asked him about the drinks and we were left to feel like it was an inconvenience. His demeanor and attitude was just so rude. Any questions we had about the menu he seemed so angry. He hardly said anything to us all evening. I tried to make some light hearted comments and he told me he didn't appreciate it as he was so busy. All of the other servers seemed fine. Between the four of us for a cocktail and food we easily spent $50 each. My husband and I typically tip 20-25% because we know serving is hard work. Needless to say he didn't quite get 10%. My daughter wanted to try this place out. We had been at the zoo, the mall, and wanted to eat dinner here before driving back to Sierra Vista. She chose this place because of the large outdoor seating, where there were cornhole boards and a small playground for kids to play in to fight boredom. It worked out well. We arrived shortly after 4pm on a Tuesday and the place was already busy. But even better than the outdoor seating was the food. My daughter and I shared a vegetarian pizza and the boys ordered off the kid's menu: Mac and Cheese for one boy and two sliders and fries for the other. We checked out Barnyard Crafthouse on a Wednesday night and loved how laid back the atmosphere was. There was a live musician playing, which added a really nice touch. We were seated right away and chose to sit outside. It was pretty cold that night, but thankfully they have outdoor heaters, which made it comfortable. The bathroom was clean, and the outdoor kids area was awesome for my little one! For food, we ordered the spinach dip with pita bread and I'd go back just for that. It was so good! I also got the BBQ smash burger, which unfortunately was a bit disappointing. The bun was extremely dry, and the meat lacked flavor. We tried the pig tail fries and the garlic fries as well. Both were delicious, but the garlic fries tasted almost exactly like the pig tail fries, just with cheese on top?? so we weren't sure if there may have been a mix-up. Overall, it was a nice experience with a great vibe. The food was alright, with a few hits and a few misses, but we'd probably come back for the atmosphere and that spinach dip alone! read more

We got the cauliflower appetizer for a group of 5 people and it was the perfect snack while we waited for our main dishes, which took awhile. I got the AHI BLT with no tomato. It comes served as an open faced sandwich with a large portion of tuna, lots of sriracha mayo and another soy-based sauce. A generous portion that doesn't need fries. My cousin got the fish and chips which he raved about, and my aunt got the Baja fish tacos which were spicy. My uncle was not a huge fan of his French dip beef sandwich as the bun was a bit mushy but my sister liked her buffalo chicken sandwich with a pretzel bun. The menu itself ranged from $20-50 for some of the main dishes, which seems pricy for Tucson. The main draw is the outdoor seating and the play area behind which is good for kids. I would come back with a large group. We have never been disappointed here. Probably tried most of the menu items. The Barnyard has a really chill atmosphere that makes it a place we always list when we are trying to decide where to go. Service has been great, even when the restaurant is busy. Definitely a place we take people in town visiting. As the weather cools off, the outside seating is our go-to spot. We went in to order some appetizers after a long hike. The Barnyard is a cool place on the "Upper Eastside" of Tucson. They provide some nice indoor and outdoor seating and the grounds are well kept. Service has always been a hit or miss and this time it was much of the same all in one. Not so warm greeting (but still did her job). Waited at the table for someone to Mae eye contact so it was a guessing game for some time as servers walked past our table. I'd say about 10 minutes in our server warmly greeted us. Service from there was so-so. Checked in on us from time to time but I could have used a few more refills of iced tea here and there. Food was interesting. The Ahi app wasn't very good. Waaaaaaay too much seaweed salad and although the portion was large, the plate only came with a few won ton chips. Hummus platter was decent and we loved then calamari the best. Second visit update. The venue is still lovely and the service still top notch. But potential diners and YELPers deserve to see the mouthwatering photos of what we ordered this week for lunch. First we had a delightful peach cocktail. Green chile burgers sounded inviting, but both of us decided to exit the box and go to things that aren't offered in every restaurant. I hadn't had a crab Louis salad in a very long time. Barnyard's version included tender-crisp asparagus, which I adore, and mixed olives, which I also love, in addition to the lettuce, crab, tomato, and hard-boiled egg I would expect on a crab Louie. The thousand island dressing was yummy and brought it all together. The only thing that could have improved this delectable meal would be if the crab had been cut into chunks instead of finely minced. My friend went with something we hadn't even heard of: an ahi BLT. It was gorgeous and huge! When she put on the top bread she said she'd never be able to get it in her mouth, much less eat it all. The sandwich came with garlic fries. They were kind of free-form wedges of soft, lightly crisp potatoes dressed with butter and garlic. So different and so yummy. (She did manage to finish!) Half of my gargantuan salad was already boxed for next-day lunch, when our waiter returned to offer dessert. Oh no. He suggested house-made apple pie with vanilla ice cream. Well, other than chocolate and cheesecake, apple is our favorite dessert flavor. My friend said she just couldn't but we decided we could split one. And, of course, not a morsel was left. The pie was chock full of tender apple slices that retained their structural integrity; no mush here, topped with crumble instead of a boring top crust, and drizzled with caramel sauce. I gotta say ! This is by far one of the best American casual dining spot so far. The location is in a very secluded and quiet spot in Tanque verde. The decor of the restaurant is so cute with farmhouse style. It is an ideal spot for events. Their service is good, our server is very attentive to our needs and the bathroom is sparkling clean. Food: oh my, I love their food. We got cauliflower appetizer and it was amazing. Their poke stack was seasoned right and the whole combo just tasted perfect with the chips. Been here a few times and each time the overall experience and food has been pretty good. My last visit, we came for a birthday party and my only issue was the food took over an hour to get to the table. The place wasn't terribly busy, although there was a good amount of people there. But over an hour to get our food is a little crazy. This is a really great place for large groups and parties. They have a great outdoor patio which can accommodate those large groups. A little hot in the summer, but in the cooler months they have outside heaters which really make the place enjoyable. They have a lot of out door games which keeps everyone super busy. I guess if you're distracted playing the games, the hour wait to get your food probably isn't that big of a deal. Servers are great! The highlight of the overall experience. They are accommodating and are intentional to the needs of the table. They are friendly and when the food comes out, they are quick to bring it out. Food quality and taste is great. We ordered fish and chips, pizza, and nachos. All are great! The pizzas are made in the pizza oven here and they come out great! Nachos were really well seasoned and a lot comes in the order. I've had the chicken wings appetizer and those are delicious! The general taos flavor is the best, in my opinion. Overall this place is a great place to visit. We used to love this restaurant. Last nights experience changed that for us. It was a 9pm arrival with 30 minutes to go till they closed. We were sat then ignored by staff at least 8 minutes while they bussed tables and chatted. We had to ASK for the server. When she took the order I had asked for the soup and salad first. She said because the kitchen was closing, she couldn't serve us that way- with no active other tables and 20 minutes of the kitchen being open- with a salad, soup and sandwich being the order. We never got waters, plates or forks when the salad arrived so we had to ask again for help- and some utensils- eating the salad and not being able to put the bread down with no plate- was lame. Also, STILL we had no water. We had asked another server to bring the plates and water- she said "sure" and just ignored us and we got nothing. We never got waters or plates till 3/4 thru the salad after asking for them AGAIN. I watched our server hanging out at the hostess stand- chatting it up with her buddies while I had to hold the bread eating it dry with no drinks- and not put it down when I was eating it. So awkward. Im on a date to celebrate something and barnyard made it so weird for me. This was supposed to be a celebration and instead it was pretty uncomfortable. That was a huge ask, I suppose....it was 9:15 on Saturday night. Regardless of our experience lol... The clam chowder was great and the salad delicious. We got the french dip sandwich and it was so salty as was the ajju dip... I didnt dip anything. After- my husband stated he had a weird taste in his mouth and he doesn't want to order it again. Unfortunate for me bc I always liked it. Our server never came by to see how we were doing, or if we needed anything to tell her about the sandwich. When we were almost done we got a water refill. How lucky of us! The restaurant was bustling only with servers- all the diners were gone but a few at the bar....and we just sat there being ignored about 40-45 minutes. We left and said nothing bc obviously no one cared. Called today, and the manager Ashley? did hear my gripes, but no offering any solutions like let us make this better for you or ??? Like we want to keep your business because small time but semi regular customers like yall are important to us. She did say the ajju musta been sitting all day. Yep, she was right, it was sooo freaking salty and room temperature ish. But why was the meat the same way? Sooo salted. Bleh. Welp, dinners at Barnyard aren't an option if no one cares about the service or food quality. Another great experience. We went with another couple, one hadn't been there before. My friend and I always want the fish & chips. Always great. My husband ordered chips & dips. I warned him he might want something else but he didn't listen. Queso, Bean dip and a strange salsa were the dips. The chips were great but the dips were just strange and not very tasty. I won't take any stars off for that because I expected that it wouldn't be to his liking. My friend's husband had the fish tacos and he said they were delicious. Incredible patio and outdoor space! Great outdoor play area for kiddos. All the outdoor ambiance you want in Tucson. We stopped in after a visit to nearby Agua Caliente Park. Food a bit lackluster. Got a burger with garlic fries, fries just had a literal scoop of garlic in them. My mom didn't touch her side salad, just kind of scooped from a bag it seemed. Ok here's the thing about our experience last night. Due to the outside temperature we decided to eat inside it was around 5:00. Flys everywhere literally. Flys on the tables, menus, patrons, servers and the food. We had a difficult time eating our food and visiting with friends because we trying to keep the flys off of us and our food. A few flys are acceptable, but this wasn't the case. You need flys strips, fly traps, and fly swatter's at the tables. We've eating here in the past and the food, drinks, and atmosphere were great. Plan to wait to be seated and wait to get food. Last night we stopped in for dinner. Our party was 4 adults and 2 small children. When we registered we were told it would be 20 minutes for an inside table and 35 for outside. We said we would sit inside. 40 minutes later we were seated inside. Ten minutes later our server came. We ordered drinks and food right then to try and speed up getting our food. Forty minutes later still no food. Asked to see manager. Manager just said things were slow because of a couple big parties. After an hour and 40 minutes and no food we walked out. Pretty disappointing service. Came here with my family on a Tuesday Night. Place had a good vibe going at around 6pm. Had live music playing with a gentlemen singing some country (Loved the Kenny Rodgers). Good brews on tap. Truffle option is a great option is you like that flavor profile. The star of the show however, has got to be that cauliflower. There aren't a lot of places that get crispy cauliflower right, and they do it amazing. In a "General Tso" type sauce (Asian profile, think orange chicken) it works really, really well. Where they fell short was the nachos. My SIL does not like BBQ Sauce on the pulled pork, and were told there was no BBQ sauce. When we got the nachos, there was BBQ Sauce. I didn't mind it, but having been told it wasn't there, and having it there kind of put a damper on things. Service, food, and ambience is fantastic. Its even better when you can enjoy the outdoor seating. The one thing to remember here is that the portions are large. Even the apps are enormous so we left with half our meals in Togo containers. This time we started with the fried cauliflower as that is always a favorite. Unfortunately they were hard, it just wasn't cooked enough to soften the califlower. This wasnt so bad when you added in all the sauce and extras. For meals we tried their brie, bacon, and apple pizza. They have a proper pizza oven but the pizza is thick and bread like, so if you like an American style pizza with tasty bread this one is for you. They should've served olive oil to dip the crust in. Then we tried the always favorite fish and chips, this is always a little different because they offer different fish selections, thus time rock fish that tasted pretty much like cod, but catch them when they use yellow fin and you'll be amazed. I met a friend here for a late lunch and enjoyed it! The reviews weren't great so I didn't have high hopes but we wanted a patio and the pictures looked great so we gave it a go as out of towners. I was nervous because the menu doesn't have gluten free options listed but when we got there we asked the server (a lovely young guy from Lebanon, didn't catch his name) about gluten free options and he was pretty informed on what we could order and how they could modify each dish for us. What he wasn't sure about, he asked the kitchen and got a solid answer. All the food was good! I got the filet and potatoes and it was good. Only thing is I ordered it medium rare and it came out medium well. It was still good but with filet the way it's cooked is so important so I took off a star. We were a little crunched for time so I couldn't have them remake it. Hubby got the fish and chips and said it was great. My friends got the chili and enchiladas and were really happy. It's also a great place for kids because there's a game area and tons of space for them to hang out and not have to sit at the table bored or on a screen. I was just happy to see a cool restaurant on the east side since it seems you have to travel to downtown, midtown, or north side for more restaurants! Anyway went here Saturday evening with my husband and sat on the patio. They have heaters throughout the patio so it really made it comfortable. I felt the ambiance was a lot nicer outside than in, with the lights and whatnot. The menu is a good size with lots of great options! I ordered the Tanque verde bliss pizza and it was alright. The garlic flavor and smell is strong so if you're not a fan of garlic, probably pass on this pizza.. I feel like that's what stood out most. I also ordered the cauliflower appetizer. It was good and plentiful but some pieces were dry.I did feel it would be better with some sort of dip. My husband enjoyed his meal as well with the poke appetizer and crab melt. Their fries are so different here but as a self appointed French fry connoisseur, I love them! They have a crisp to them still that's perfect! All in all the meal was good but I do feel this restaurant is rather expensive. None of their burgers/sandwiches come with sides and are upwards $18...$20! That doesn't seem like a great value to me. The chucuterie boards are $20..$30 & market place..(but who knows maybe they're really big?), and entrees range $30-$50. Continuing our search for Tucson's best fish and chips we decided to beat Mother's Day and go to the BCE yesterday to give them a try. We passed on the upgraded sword fish option and chose the rock fish which we have always liked. The fish came hot, as it should be, and with a tasty batter. It is the best fish and chips we have had so far in Tucson. The red cabbage, pineapple and cranberry coleslaw was very good. I shocked my wife when I said it could use a tiny amount of mayo which I do not usually like. The portions were generous, particularly the fries, which were somewhat similar to steak fries. Frankly, we would have preferred traditional fresh cut fries. The service by Erin was excellent. Our water glasses were always filled. In fact, Erin went a step beyond and made us cocktail sauce which we prefer to tartar sauce with fish & chips. Another nice touch was management coming by several times to check on how we were doing. Within a half hour of arriving the place was filled. We noticed generous portions on most orders that passed by our table. The seating options were almost the size of the menu.
