I've been coming to Barnyard for years, but the recent menu updates are a major step backward. The new smash burgers come on incredibly hard bread with thin beef patties, and the fish and chips were noticeably greasy. The old menu was so much better. I really hope they switch back to the original recipes and quality. read more

The good was creative an amazing. Looked up a restaurant from lunch when visiting my brother and this came up. It dud not disappoint

Very cool venue, chill, relaxing backyard vibes. We went on a Saturday and it was packed. They have tons of different outdoor spaces, so it didn't feel packed. We put our name in for 2, wait time about 45 min. They had a few open seating areas and a walk up bar, so we grabbed drinks to wait and enjoy the ambience. Tons of kids around playing, they had lots of outdoor yard game areas, some Adirondack chair areas to relax. Lots of options. We sat outside on the patio. It had lots I'd seating, umbrellas and mood lighting. It took a few minutes to get an order in, but again it was Saturday night. We ordered the Crispy Cauliflower appetizer, cauliflower lightly coated and mixed with general tso's sauce, peanuts, peppers and crispy won tons. It was a hearty portion and was delicious. Great flavor, not spicy and super filling. We couldn't eat it all. We also shared a French Dip sandwich. The bread was a skinny roll filled with roast beef and topped with cheese. The bread was nice & squishy, just the way I like it. The portion was enough to fill us up completely. Loved the vibe here. Great food options. I noticed tons of people ordering the ceviche appetizer, and I was sorta jealous. I'll have to come back!! read more

Barnyard is an amazing place to go to for everything; family dinner, date night, girls/guys night, etc. The atmosphere is fun and comforting. Barnyard has such a unique environment. We love the seating areas, both inside and outside, and including other seats to chill, chat, and enjoy drinks. Every food we have eaten here has always been so delicious!! Try every appetizers there is, trust me!! Pizzas are cooked perfectly with a great amount of toppings. Cocktails and options for other selection of alcohol such as beers and liquor is also good. LOVE THE MANGO SANGRIA!! Family and I come here often especially with our kiddos. Kids get to have fun with cornhole, giant connect 4, and amongst other things even for much younger kids too. This is definitely a must-recommend restaurant! read more

Food is always spot on. My favorites include the fried cauliflower, fish and chips, and the prime rib (when on special). Plenty of craft beers to choose from and cocktails aren't bad. Although my old fashion was a bit too sweet for my taste. Also this place has a great atmosphere but can be a bit noisy. Sit outside if the weather permits and let the kids enjoy the play zone. read more

Good food and good service. It can be a little noisy inside, but the outside spaces are great when the weather is nice.

Visited June 14. Staff are friendly. Food was awful. Ordered Fish and Shrimp baskets. $15+ for each. The fish was mushy. Couldn't eat it. Shrimp was mostly breading with little shrimp. My friend liked her beer. I'm not a beer drinker so had a cherry flavored beer which was tasty but $5 for 5 ounces. We sat far from the band but still had to yell to hear each other. Not my favorite music, but they were playing in 100 degree heat. Try something else on the menu if you go. On the plus side we got to bring our dogs. read more

Another Tucson restaurant crossed off the list to try! It's further east than I thought, right past houghton, so still in the vicinity of some things. I was just happy to see a cool restaurant on the east side since it seems you have to travel to downtown, midtown, or north side for more restaurants! Anyway went here Saturday evening with my husband and sat on the patio. They have heaters throughout the patio so it really made it comfortable. I felt the ambiance was a lot nicer outside than in, with the lights and whatnot. The menu is a good size with lots of great options! I ordered the Tanque verde bliss pizza and it was alright. The garlic flavor and smell is strong so if you're not a fan of garlic, probably pass on this pizza.. I feel like that's what stood out most. I also ordered the cauliflower appetizer. It was good and plentiful but some pieces were dry.I did feel it would be better with some sort of dip. My husband enjoyed his meal as well with the poke appetizer and crab melt. Their fries are so different here but as a self appointed French fry connoisseur, I love them! They have a crisp to them still that's perfect! All in all the meal was good but I do feel this restaurant is rather expensive. None of their burgers/sandwiches come with sides and are upwards $18...$20! That doesn't seem like a great value to me. The chucuterie boards are $20..$30 & market place..(but who knows maybe they're really big?), and entrees range $30-$50. Again the food is good, buuut be forewarned it's a pretty penny to dine here! read more

Nice place for families with kids - they get room to not be restless and bored. For me the cauliflower appetizer was really good. The hamburger too dry. The servings large! A patron moved an umbrella to suit himself making the sun painfully hard on my eyes (and his, he didn't know what he was doing). The music was good. It could be great if you pick seat carefully. read more

Service, food, and ambience is fantastic. Its even better when you can enjoy the outdoor seating. The one thing to remember here is that the portions are large. Even the apps are enormous so we left with half our meals in Togo containers. This time we started with the fried cauliflower as that is always a favorite. Unfortunately they were hard, it just wasn't cooked enough to soften the califlower. This wasnt so bad when you added in all the sauce and extras. For meals we tried their brie, bacon, and apple pizza. They have a proper pizza oven but the pizza is thick and bread like, so if you like an American style pizza with tasty bread this one is for you. They should've served olive oil to dip the crust in. Then we tried the always favorite fish and chips, this is always a little different because they offer different fish selections, thus time rock fish that tasted pretty much like cod, but catch them when they use yellow fin and you'll be amazed. Overall I recommend this place. read more

I met a friend here for a late lunch and enjoyed it! The reviews weren't great so I didn't have high hopes but we wanted a patio and the pictures looked great so we gave it a go as out of towners. I was nervous because the menu doesn't have gluten free options listed but when we got there we asked the server (a lovely young guy from Lebanon, didn't catch his name) about gluten free options and he was pretty informed on what we could order and how they could modify each dish for us. What he wasn't sure about, he asked the kitchen and got a solid answer. All the food was good! I got the filet and potatoes and it was good. Only thing is I ordered it medium rare and it came out medium well. It was still good but with filet the way it's cooked is so important so I took off a star. We were a little crunched for time so I couldn't have them remake it. Hubby got the fish and chips and said it was great. My friends got the chili and enchiladas and were really happy. It's also a great place for kids because there's a game area and tons of space for them to hang out and not have to sit at the table bored or on a screen. My daughter made a few friends and the kids had fun. read more

Continuing our search for Tucson's best fish and chips we decided to beat Mother's Day and go to the BCE yesterday to give them a try. We passed on the upgraded sword fish option and chose the rock fish which we have always liked. The fish came hot, as it should be, and with a tasty batter. It is the best fish and chips we have had so far in Tucson. The red cabbage, pineapple and cranberry coleslaw was very good. I shocked my wife when I said it could use a tiny amount of mayo which I do not usually like. The portions were generous, particularly the fries, which were somewhat similar to steak fries. Frankly, we would have preferred traditional fresh cut fries. The service by Erin was excellent. Our water glasses were always filled. In fact, Erin went a step beyond and made us cocktail sauce which we prefer to tartar sauce with fish & chips. Another nice touch was management coming by several times to check on how we were doing. Within a half hour of arriving the place was filled. We noticed generous portions on most orders that passed by our table. The seating options were almost the size of the menu. We are looking forward to sitting on the patio when cool weather returns. read more

My first visit to The Barnyard. Outstanding service, top tier food quality and presentation. Every aspect of this restaurant is 5+ . Their cocktails are so very executed from preparation and team planning, to an exotic taste. Our food was ALL a 10 on 10 scale from the tantalizing appetizers to each main course. The friendly staff and chefs work together as efficiently as I have ever experienced. We had 7 happy family members. The fresh fish delivery in the Tucson desert rivaled any Baja Mexican destination. Their Swordfish special was so delicious, well prepared and presented to rank #1 in all my south of the border restaurants. The Barnyard's desserts were next level.. outstanding!! The menu had such a wide range of dishes, we can't wait to return from our So Cal home to experience these heavenly entrees and constantly changing chef's specials. read more

This is an adorable restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating when the weather is nice. There were a lot of flowers with monarchs flying around. It was lovely. I had the cranberry chicken salad which was a huge portion and so good. I also had the garlic fries and my date had a steak and potatoes. We felt the prices were good for the amount of food we received. Staff were nice and made me a specialty mocktail. I will be back! read more

I've had plenty of visits here and have always had a tasty meal. I had the ahí poke tostadas to start and are always good. You can't go wrong with the spinach dip either. I was disappointed in my shrimp tacos this time though. The shrimp was cold and had no flavor whatsoever. The cocktails are always crafty and delicious. Our server was great making sure we had everything we needed and cleared our plates when we we're finished. Most of all, she made sure our drinks never went dry. A great server never let's guests go thirsty and we really appreciate that. read more

Well the start was a miss, so one less star because the host, greeted us but continued to work on something for over 5+ minutes before sitting us which would have taken a minute. No one before us or behind us. Not busy at all yet we arrived at 4:45, the interior was 25% occupied. So rocky start. Our waitress greeted us and her service was terrific. Our food was very good, huge servings and everything was fresh. The only issue was my son's burger was undercooked, he ordered medium well and I would say definitely medium with too much red meat showing. Sadly he was ill the next day. The rest of us were not ill with GI issues. We order fish and chips, two orders of fish tacos (one fried and one grilled), 505 burger and the hummus board. The hummus was good but too much oil on top. Would have rathered had feta in squares versus crumbles too hard to serve on plate. The plate was bland in color, wish they served with red bell peppers and had some olives. We will return but will cut into a burger before eating and definitely trying a different appetizer. read more

Food is consistently good and it's a fun place to hang out. Service can be pretty slow though, especially waiting for drinks.

Wife and I arrived at 5 without a reservation on a Wednesday evening. Walking in, we saw a half dozen empty outdoor tables and thought we would be seated quickly. Wrong. The somewhat rude hostess informed us we had a 20 minute wait. Strange but not a biggie. We found a shaded seat and watched the 10 or so young kids having a great time running around playing. When we were seated, it was one of the empty tables we saw walking in. We ordered the Brussel sprout appetizer (incredible!) and the nachos (forgettable). Our waiter was a good guy who did a fine job serving us. Bottom line, OK food, OK service, a great place to bring your kids so they can run around unsupervised. Well, we gave it a try. read more

This is such a great place for lunch, happy hour, or dinner. I grew up in the eastside and have loved this addition to the neighborhood! I want to love this place but...last two times my meal was severely overly salted. Tonight, service was slow then they got my order wrong, my salmon (which they forgot to add to my salad) was not seasoned at all. When I asked if I could substitute romaine for spring mix on my salad the answer was simply "sure". So imagine my surprise when I received the check and saw that I was charged an extra $1.50 for Romaine! While I don't like being charged a "credit card convenience fee" I at least understand the rationale. Although, I believe you should just price assuming the vast majority of Americans are going to pay with a credit card and be done. The thing that really left a bad taste in my mouth (aside from the unseasoned salmon) was the extra charge for romaine! Seriously? I asked for a less expensive product and they charged me more? And why didn't the wait staff disclose this practice when I asked if I could substitute? I won't say I'll never eat here again but I definitely won't go as often. read more

Ok here's the thing about our experience last night. Due to the outside temperature we decided to eat inside it was around 5:00. Flys everywhere literally. Flys on the tables, menus, patrons, servers and the food. We had a difficult time eating our food and visiting with friends because we trying to keep the flys off of us and our food. A few flys are acceptable, but this wasn't the case. You need flys strips, fly traps, and fly swatter's at the tables. We've eating here in the past and the food, drinks, and atmosphere were great. Plan to wait to be seated and wait to get food. Last night we stopped in for dinner. Our party was 4 adults and 2 small children. When we registered we were told it would be 20 minutes for an inside table and 35 for outside. We said we would sit inside. 40 minutes later we were seated inside. Ten minutes later our server came. We ordered drinks and food right then to try and speed up getting our food. Forty minutes later still no food. Asked to see manager. Manager just said things were slow because of a couple big parties. After an hour and 40 minutes and no food we walked out. Pretty disappointing service. A change needs to be made to better serve customers. Plan to wait if you choose this restaurant. read more

What a really well crafted venue, great outdoor ambiance, the grounds are inviting and engaging-especially for kids, playful adults. They have an army of umbrellas for shade during the day and lights for dusk and after sunset, huge portable Evac Coolers, really well done. The menu has some fantastic offerings and for the most part I was able to special order to accommodate my diabetic diet, somewhat tricky, but doable. I had the crispy cauliflower to share, (not diabetic friendly) which was just phenomenal and the meatball board. Our group stayed long enough that I also ordered the Filet about an hour later and that was fantastic. One of the best Filets in Tucson. Prices were commensurate with the quality of the food and the setting. The barnyard is now in my regular outings circle, well done. read more

The food was meh. I ordered the filet which was cut weird. Looked like a weird hamburger patties. No seasoning on it. The weird brown sauce they put on the plate tasted like the brown sauce they put in English pubs for the fish and chips. It doesn't work with that steak. The sound of the menu description had my mouth watering but the carrots were raw and the "mashed potatoes" were raw. Chunky raw potato chunks were gross. There was weird crunchy Parmesan things that felt like they belonged to a salad kit from Fry's. They were crunchy just like the potatoes and carrots so I guess the cook had consistency but the wrong kind of consistency. Stop trying to make fancy plates if the cohesiveness is off and no one in the kitchen is tasting the food before it comes out. I will stick to whatever is deep fried next time because I do not trust I won't get raw food there unless they deep fry it. read more

A great and slightly off the beaten path restaurant and bar in a barn! The menu has a great selection of apps and entrees. I've had the fish tacos, lobster mac 'n cheese, pizza and the Ahi poke appetizer. I wasn't impressed with the pizza. The Ahi appetizer was great, it was a generous portion! The mac 'n cheese was great too, and the fish tacos were very good. The giant prickly pear marg (served in a 20 oz goblet) was a moderately priced $9 when I first went, now it's $16. I won't be getting that again! We always come early for dinner to avoid the wait. When there was a wait, it was around 15 minutes. You can have a drink and wait at the bar inside or have a seat on the other side of the bar outside! There are seating areas outdoors, along with games and a patio for dining. It's a pretty unique place, and I recommend bringing visitors here! Watch for the entrance on Tanque Verde, as there is no sign prior to the unmarked driveway! read more

I don't know what those 1 star people were talking about. This was our 1st visit but we will be back. We had the Thursday night prime rib dinner. The prime rib was tender and very flavorful. The garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. We arrived at 450pm. We had our order taken, our drinks and food delivered, we ate unrushed, and were on our way home at 541!!!! WHAT! Now that's service. My only complaint is that I like my vegetables cooked. I know heated but still crunchy is the in thing but I would rather they be cooked, not just heated. Thus the 4 stars. Also to note, we were in a both inside but the doors are wide open so it's almost like being outside. Hell yeah I'd recommend this place! I was about to go on a Horseback ride in the region, which was awesome and yes I reviewed it too. I had time to kill and was hungry. The nice lady at circle K pointed me in this direction. The sweetheart bartender when I walked in made me my favorite drink, a Diet Coke with an astronomical amount of lemon wedges, and I with great doubt asked about the fish and chips. To my great surprise, he agreed that it makes no sense for Tucson fish to be good, but they import some obnoxiously high quality.... I went for it. It was perfect! The beer batter was so crispy and crunchy, fish was flaky and not smelly, with a spicy tartar sauce. However.... I said no to the carbs that was fries and inhaled the cold slaw without shame. It was really good with pineapple soaked raisins. Check out this place! Fair prices! read more

The menu prices are more than sufficient to cover a credit card fee. Raise the prices but do not charge an additional fee for credit cards. Our family was hungry after hiking Tanque Verde Falls and our friends had mentioned having a good experience at Barnyard so we decided to stop in for an early dinner around 5p. We were surprised to see it pretty full and we had a 25 mins wait for a group of four. Thankfully there's a lot to do in the exterior patio area. From playing corn hole or Jenga, to checking out their garden or sitting at watching the game there's lots to do to pass the time. We got a beer while we waited and was impressed with the number of drinks on tap. Our server, Kevin was great. He was covering a lot of tables but still made sure to check in on us throughout the meal. We got some chips and salsa as an appetizer and Kevin even got us a refill on our chips. My kids got the sliders and cheese pizza kids meals, which were both very tasty. My wife ordered the fish and chips and I got the 505 burger in a lettuce wrap. All the food was delicious and we had a good time. Our dinner for four was about $80 so it's more a special treat for our family, but this is a great option for the east side of town. read more

I would give this place a 4 if I was going by the patio itself. It was beautiful and the trees and the shade from them were amazing. The food was marginal at best edible, but not worth the drive.
