This past weekend, we found ourselves on a quest to find casual and tasty foods to serve at our Super bowl gathering. As we began to look,(basically, we just did a google search) , Wings and Rice showed up on our, "food radar" . After noting the high number of 5-star ratings that were consistently being given to WINGS & RICE by my fellow Tucsonians, my wife asked if I would stop by and grab some wings to bring home to share with our honored guests. Upon arriving home, the wings were quickly decimated by our guests. The fact that they were gobbled up so fast and raved about, is probably the best and most-honest evidence that the numerous five-stars ratings given to WINGS & RICE are "spot-on" in their assessments. The place is "kind-of unassuming"--as it sits on the south-east corner of Pima and Craycroft in Tucson. Despite the fact that I have passed it numerous times-- wondering about it, and even considered giving it a go, I ultimately have never stopped in. Shame on me, as i we came to really enjoy the food here! This does then beg the question... "How many other hidden gems like this have I been passing by?" But then, in the bigger view of it all, isn't this the primary reason that YELP exists?! I think YELP got its name from the sound a dog makes after being kicked--which is what should have happened to me for passing this place so many times. ( *That origin story is not true--I just made that up for comedic effect.) So anyways, in my humble opinion (*for what that is worth), the place is the culinary equivalent of Duncan the Tall--a simple, but honorable hedge-knight in the HBO series, "A Knight of the 7 Kingdoms." (It's not my place to recommend TV shows here, but this one is a good 'un). And, if you are thinking that my saying this restaurant is like a lowly knight roaming the country-side seeking justice and honor is a criticism against W&R, you are so-so-so wrong! My comparison is intended as a compliment in the highest of regards. For, like Dunk, this place embodies the true ideals of what it means to serve. WINGS & RICE does not adorn itself with fancy-pantsy decorations and art. Instead, it strives to modestly, and without "pomp and circumstance" follow the noble ideals of serving up high quality and tasty chow (at reasonable prices) to the tired, huddled masses--yearning to breath free and fill their bellies. So, my lords and me ladies, pray, allow me to express my final thoughts on the matter of sustenance and refined beverages that can be had-ith at WINGS and RICE... If one be-ith in the moodith for-ith some tastely victuals, this be-ith the place. I probably just lost all shreds of any "street cred" that I may have had-- with my, "playing the fool" by comparing the W&R to a character in a show. (*not to mention my attempt to use the language of the middle ages and falling short). Despite all that, don't pass this place up. It really is, "the good stuff". Make yee way, post-haste and full-tilt to-ith WINGS & RICE!!! Anon! Post script. We opted for the buffalo wings and the lemon and pepper wing flavors from their menu. The lemon and pepper offerings went first and were demolished in seconds...but the buffalo flavored ones did not last long either. Our guests nearly came to "unshielded swords" over who would get the last of these tasty morsels of delectable meats. *And, an added bonus was the side of rice, which, while I was waiting for my order to be completed, I over-heard two different patrons rave about. Cah-ching! They were not wrong... "food-ith of the gods" were those starchy seasoned soft and sticky white grains of heaven--bathing in spicy buttery flavor! read more

Planning on picking up dinner for the hub and me, I checked for but didn't find online ordering for Wings and Rice. So I called and spoke to the sweetest and most helpful man. We (lol) decided on the ten-piece wing, half garlic Parmesan and half teriyaki. The order comes with a huge portion of chicken fried rice, a small salad dressed with soy miso, and a soda. The rice was absolutely perfectly cooked and delicious. A special sauce on the side added to its yumminess. The wings were disappointing though. The teriyaki sauce was great but the wings were small and chewy. There was so much delicious rice that the hub and I enjoyed it for two lunches. We will definitely return for the rice. read more

My daughters always joke that I'm the person who can be completely bamboozled by a TikTok food review, and honestly, they're usually not wrong. So when I saw a review for Wings & Rice, I did what any curious foodie would do I drove over an hour and a half to try it for myself. This time, the TikTok hype was 100% worth it. The wings were cooked to perfection crispy, flavorful, and juicy. I ordered the Spicy Teriyaki and Garlic Parmesan, and both were absolutely amazing. The flavors were bold without being overwhelming, and every bite had me wanting more. I also ordered the Hibachi Chicken Fried Rice, and it did not disappoint. The portion was generous, the chicken was tender, and the rice was packed with flavor. What really completed the experience was the customer service. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and made me feel appreciated as a customer. The location is a little tucked away in Tucson and definitely not somewhere I would have stumbled upon on my own, but it's a hidden gem that's worth the drive. Stopped by due to a recommendation from a friend and was in the area. Welcomed upon entering and since it was first time here was given a sample of their rice and sauce. Went with the chicken fried rice and egg rolls/spring rolls. Was happy to hear the chicken is breast meat. Food came out fairly quickly and was hot and tasty. It's served in styrofoam containers which makes taking your leftovers easy although I do wish it was a more environmentally friendly option. Service friendly. Seems like a lot of regulars. What a willful yet wonderful combination! We got take out after this place being recommended by a friend and were pleasantly surprised to see what the hype was about. We ordered bone in and bone out wings, both cooked well. We tried the spicy garlic parm which was a unique find. We also got a beef fried rice which was 11/10. Grabbed the 10 Wing Combo during an impromptu drive by. Appreciated you could split the ordering on wing flavor (Recommend sauce on the side). Ordered 5 Garlic Parmesan and 5 Cajon, I defaulted to the dry rubs. The combo comes with fried rice, which was cooked perfectly, not gummy or dried out & a soda. Customer service was solid with Chris at the helm. While granted it is a great little place to grab some decent wings, the one constructive criticism I would share - a deep cleaning would service the dining area well. The staff was friendly but for the price of their food, their location and actual "restaurant", they need to 1) Do Not Serve Food in styrofoam boxes with plastic utensils. 2)Do Not Serve Food in styrofoam boxes with plastic utensils. My friend had 5 chicken strips for $10.49 and a soda. I had a combo of 6 very small wings, a lot of rice and a soda for $17. $33 for food and $5 tip (for the cook?). Now, the food was decent but expensive when it's served in nasty styrofoam with plastic cutlery. They brought the food to your table, but you had to clear your own trash. Fast food places have a nicer dining room than this place. It only had 6-8 tables. It wasn't particularly clean but the unisex restroom was gross and filthy. I was very surprised that this place had fairly decent reviews. The styrofoam boxes and cups remind me of the Covid days, but that's long gone. If I had known that was the way they served the food, I wouldn't have gone through the door. I don't like takeout but if one plans to eat in the "dining room" they could certainly improved the serving dishes and cutlery. I really wanted to rate this at 2.5 only because the food had decent flavor, so I picked 3 stars. I see no need to go back to Wings & Rice ever again. read more

I like wings. I like fried rice. So this place was a no-brainer for me. It's a smallish shop on the SEC of Pima and Wilmot. You have to drive around back to find the entrance and more parking; you won't see it from the street. I ordered the 10-piece wings and rice combo. With a drink that total came to $20 and change. The wings are medium size but the rice is well over a pound. You can't eat it all. The cashier brought me a take out box when he delivered my meal. I got 5 teriyaki style and 5 with parmesan. The teriyaki is an in-house formula that tasted great. Sometimes teriyaki is a salty, over flavored mess but this was sweet and light. The parmesan was good too but so much cheese made things a little salty for my taste. The fried rice is unique. They use a "Japanese white sauce" which gives it a flavor I've never had in rice before. It's lite and airy, not a fried, greasy mess. Definitely worth a try, plus you can make a 2nd meal out of it at home. They drizzle another custom sauce over the rice if you want. The cashier (maybe the owner?) offered to give me a sample which I took. I like sauces but usually not over rice so I passed.
