Tableside guacamole. YUMMY!
julie k.

Headed here for a quick bite before heading to TMA. Came early and took advantage of Happy Hour pricing. Got a lovely table, attentive server and table side guacamole. Always a great choice. Today I tried the seared ahi and it was absolutely delicious. Cannot believe I had not selected it before but better late than never! Ahi was seared perfectly and it sat upon a perfect mix of salad veggies. Just heaven. It was early and the restaurant was quiet and chill. A perfect happy hour !

Rustic feel and good crowd post graduation on a May afternoon. Staff was lively and diligently moving to serve. The little meatballs, chorizo and mushrooms hit the spot. I love a place where everyone has a "feel good" mood.

I brought my husband here for his birthday dinner. I enjoyed the fusion of Mexican style with a steakhouse. The inside decor was nice. The food was excellent. The service was beyond amazing. We really enjoyed our dinner here!

This was my second time visiting this downtown Tucson restaurant. The first time we came, everything was really good, which is why we decided to return for Valentine's Day and reserve for their special Valentine's menu. We were the last reservation of the evening (which I made about a week in advance). After being seated, we were told that the Valentine's menu was no longer available because they had run out of the carne asada plate and several other featured items. That was disappointing, especially since the special menu had been advertised and reservations were required. It made me feel like there should have been enough prepared for the number of bookings that night. We adjusted and ordered from the regular menu. My friend and I shared a steak with potatoes on the side, and our husbands ordered the surf and turf enchiladas. They really enjoyed their dishes and said everything was flavorful and well prepared. Drinks were definitely a highlight. I ordered a sangria and it was really good, and my friend had a mezcal margarita that was also excellent. Overall, the cocktails were very well done. The manager was very attentive and apologized multiple times for the Valentine's menu situation, which we appreciated. Our server was kind and doing her best on what was clearly a very busy evening. The only other issue was timing. My friend and I ordered a Caesar salad to share (they prepare it table-side, which is a really cool touch), but it didn't arrive until after we had finished our steak. Because of the delay, they ended up comping the salad, which we appreciated. This place is great for a special occasion, dressing up, going downtown before or after clubbing, or celebrating something. It definitely feels more like a date-night or couple's environment rather than a family-style restaurant although that might just be because I've only gone at night on the weekend.

Prime rib, filet mignon, side of corn and beans.

AMAZING, AMAZING FOOD!!!! We made reservations, so the wait was under five minutes. We chose to sit outside; the tables were covered with a nice, black fabric. There were no candles or table decorations/candles to set the ambience that were offered at the inside tables. I ordered the jumbo shrimp addition to my steak, but our waiter forgot to submit the order (we were not charged). I'm super disappointed that the side of shrimp was forgotten, but that gives me a reason to try it next time! Service was quick, and the waiter checked in at just the right times (not excessively to be annoying). This is hands down the best red beef we've had in Tucson; the food justifies the prices. Ordered: prime rib (cooked medium-rare), filet mignon (cooked med-well) with a side of charred/roasted corn. The prime rib came with tortillas, and our meal was served with a side of pinto beans.

This place is now on my list of must eat at restaurants for my annual trips to Tucson. I usually get my Tucson steak fix at the very casual and rustic Daisy Mae's on the west side but after seeing Charro Steak and Del Rey listed as a top restaurant in the US for filet mignon, I had to give them a try. I was not disappointed. The filet was prepared perfectly blue/rare as I had requested. There was a wonderfully flavorful seared crust on the outside and the inside of the steak was tender and juicy. The added side of 4 mesquite grilled jumbo shrimp elevated the entire dish and complimented the filet perfectly! My friend ordered the 22 day aged prime rib. He's a huge fan of prime rib and absolutely loved it! He's from Las Vegas and has had his share of prime rib out there at the resorts and casinos and he swears that the prime rib at Charro is near the top of the list for him. Like I mentioned earlier, this is now a go to spot when I plan on returning to Tucson for my annual weekend visit. I'll still have a steak dinner at Daisy Mae's, which is now a tradition for me, but a dinner at Charro Del Rey is also happening, either by hook or crook.

This is one of our Go To Night Downtown places to eat. This evening, 2025, was the 1st Day of Steak-Mas with a highlighted Salad and Prime Rib special. I'm going to focus on the great service we received from our servers who were attentive and made sure the one concern we had was addressed. The Prime Rib, tamale and brussels were amazing and well worth it. The salad should not have been highlighted and had issues, that I'll attribute to first night issues of the special. Mainly freshness, lack of ingredients and small portion. However this was addressed quickly, the servers and manager came to apologize and offered a free dessert. The best thing of a restaurant is often not just food, but how they address problems which Charro handled excellently. We will continue to dine here and look forward to continuined amazing meals in the future. Don't forget there is a reward program. Prices can be moderate to high which is common for this quality restaurant. Thanks

I had the 22-day Aged Grass Fed Prime Rib, cooked medium rare, and it was beautifully prepared at perfect temperature and flavor. It came with horseradish au jus and fresh flour tortillas, which was such a fun and unexpected touch from a typical starch pairing. The only downside was that my particular cut had quite a bit of connective tissue, which made it difficult to slice through in some spots which might've just been the luck of the draw, so I'd be willing to give it another shot next time. The meal also came with their family-style frijoles Charro, which were delicious, and the complimentary chips and salsa. I personally would've loved the salsa to have a little more heat, but I get that they keep it mild for most palates. I paired everything with a Si Sangria Rojo, which was fantastic, light, fruity, and perfectly balanced. The interior of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous - stylish, warm, and inviting. And our server was wonderful: friendly, attentive, and on top of everything. Overall, it was a very nice dining experience, and I'd definitely come back to try another cut of steak and enjoy the great atmosphere again.

I've been here a few times but it was years ago. I've never made a review. Hubby and I came on a Friday night. We made reservations and they were pretty packed. However, they have patio seating. Food: appetizers: guacamole left more to be desired. It was bland but a cute setup. I would rate it a 6/10 I had the charro burger with added bacon and fries which was good with the prickly pear bbq sauce. Pretty solid so 8/10. Mac and cheese had a good flavor and I could taste two types of cheese. 7/10 Pinto beans were good flavor Mock Mojito was not great. 6/10 but our waiter removed it from the bill. Service: attentive, quick, pretty good.

I was really craving a good steak, so we decided to come here again. Our last visit was just okay, but this time was a wonderful experience. Everything from the salsa and tableside guacamole to the carne asada and halibut was outstanding. Big kudos to our lovely server--she constantly checked in and made sure we were doing great. Also, shoutout to the tableside guacamole girl, she did an amazing job preparing it fresh right in front of us. When we arrived, it was a bit loud due to the live music, but that only lasted about 10 minutes. After that, it quieted down and we could easily enjoy our conversation. Definitely a much better experience than last time. We'll be back

I've been to Charro Steak twice now, and the second visit completely changed my perspective. On my first visit, I ordered the T-bone. It was good, but not something I'd go out of my way for. This time, I gave it another shot and ordered the carne asada--and that's the move. It's a skirt steak, perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and easily the standout item on the menu. I paired it with a 10 oz grilled lobster tail, and it exceeded expectations. Cooked over a mesquite grill, it takes on a subtle smoky flavor that enhances the natural sweetness of the lobster and really sets it apart. I spend a lot of time on the Massachusetts coast and have had plenty of lobster--this preparation stands out. The charred Brussels sprouts with white corn are also worth ordering. Great texture and flavor, not just an afterthought side. Even the basics were done right--warm, crisp chips and a flavorful salsa (not spicy, but well-balanced). The space itself is rustic and fun, with a great atmosphere. I sat at the bar and received five-star service from Derek --attentive, friendly, and dialed in the entire time. Overall, one of the better steak and lobster meals I've had, and that's saying something. It's on the pricier side for Tucson, but absolutely worth it. If you only have one shot here, get the carne asada.

I had a great dinner here back in 2021 and I forgot to leave a review. So here we go! -the food was great! The staff was amazing! The bartender kept me happy and the dessert was fantastic! The dining area is super nice and laid back. (It was a great last meal!)

It was a Monday night and my brother and his wife came in from out of town and the first place I thought to take them for steak was Charro. That turned out to be an excellent choice. Marquis T was are most excellent server and he met all our needs perfectly. My brother and I both settled on the filet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes beans and I personally had the escargo. His wife based on my wife's recommendation chose the carne asada. The food was absolutely perfect timely and warm. The drinks came quickly and were excellent. Many thanks to the team at Charro for making it a great night for my family and I.

Charro Steak & Del Rey Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Charro Steak & Del Rey

Happy hours in weekends?

No unfortunately but it's a relatively new practice that may not be utilized this summer. Check before you go

Is this place associated with the EL Charro restaurants in Tucson?

Yes. And the new Charro del Rey that will be opening in January.

What is the parking situation at Charro Steak?

Being a central downtown restaurant, we do not have our own parking lot. There is meter parking around the building on Broadway and 5th Ave. The meters are free after 5pm. There are also multiple parking garages downtown that are a short walk away.

Which, you know, is kind of the whole point of a restaurant. The atmosphere was great, a little on the nose, but great none the less. It feels like a Mexican dinner or at least what I imagined a dinner in Mexico would look like. The staff where beyond amazing, especially the woman who made our complementary salsa right at the table. And the salsa was yummy but sadly that's the only part of the meal that I can say that about. The thing is, nothing was truly bad, but just about everything was incredibly bland. You'd have expected someone who puts raisins in potato salad to have served it, not an authentic Mexican restaurant. Though the positive is the lack of seasoning is really the only major problem. The food did not have any weird taste, it wasn't dry, the presentation was fine. It simply needs to be seasoned and this place goes to a solid 4/5 rather than a three.

Spacious patio area, with cool lights, umbrellas, and many tables. If you have a choice and it isn't too hot, sit outside. The food is stellar! The rest of the table (3 more) ordered the green chicken enchiladas. They didn't need to rave about it: their plates were completely clean at the end of the meal! We ordered Tamarindo and Horchata drinks between us, and frankly, the Tamarindo is some of the best I've ever had anywhere. Service can be a little slow, especially if they're busy. Their back patio looks super cute for warmer nights and the food was great. Little bit of a wait but the friendly servers got us sat as soon as possible at 7pm Saturday. Salsa and chips were tasty, the carne asada was excellent. The corn tortillas are thick and perfectly charred. The green enchiladas were good too. The sauce was thicker than usual, but that's probably the Native fusion instead of being just Mexican enchiladas. So glad we stopped in, we ate every bite. Forgot to take a picture until I was half through!

Honestly, I wish I could give Yaquesita a little more, maybe half a star more, because this place definitely has potential. Their flavors are good, but compared to similar restaurants the menu feels a bit overpriced. For a party of three we ended up paying around $100, which felt like a bit much for what we got. The restaurant itself is pretty small with only about 3-4 tables inside, but the patio is a decent size and has a cute vibe. It's actually a nice option on cooler days if you don't mind sitting outside. Some items were better than others. The wet-style burrito was delicious and definitely a highlight. The quesabirrias were good, however the birria felt more like fancier shredded beef. It was missing that rich, spicy, slightly acidic, earthy flavor that usually sets birria apart from barbacoa or traditional shredded beef dishes. The bowl was just okay and had lots of lettuce. It felt more like a salad with a bit of meat, rice, and beans. Honestly, Chipotle does bowls better, and that says a lot considering the price. The nachos were good, but I've had better. Seis Kitchen has amazing nachos to share. That said, it's definitely a place I'd come back to mainly out of convenience, not because one particular item on the menu won my heart. I really do hope they continue refining the menu because the flavors are there and this place could easily become a standout spot. Personally I just think at the total price of my ticket other restaurants should not even have room in my mind during my meal. If you're in the area and looking for a safe bet where everyone will probably find something they like, it's worth giving them a try.
